[Q] What to do with old Android after upgrade?

So I am upgrading my phone soon, but I'm wondering about my old one. I'd like to keep it around. It will no longer have CDMA access, but wifi will still work. Is there a way to disable (permanently?) the CDMA radio so it does not consume power and only the WIFI radio works?
Also, a paranoia note, what if I don't want the CDMA radio to work because I'm a freak and afraid "they" might remotely disable my phone, or yada yada yada...

Probably should ask this in Q&A.
I know in CM6 you can keep wi-fi on in Airplane mode, don't know if you are running that or not. Also, how are they going to remote disable a phone that's already not really running? That doesn't even make sense.

Sorry to be rude but this was a post that was completely unnecessary.

easiest way, is not disable the cdma entirely but put a stock rom or nfinite fxs rom on it, do ##3282# and change the min/mdn to random numbers (preferrable: 0000000 and 0000000 ) and wala, phone is no longer associated with your account and it cant be 'remotely' disabled

I will give that some thought and try it! I appreciate the response, unlike the other posters. I cannot wait until I get 100 or so posts under my belt so I can be a jerk to people as well!

Airplane mode is called that for a reason it disables all wireless communication INCLUDING WiFi for when, you guessed it, your on an Airplane so that it doesnt fux with the airplanes electronics! As far as them remotely disabling a disabled phone, that WONT happen, but just to calm the fears, thats how its done.
As far as the OP, you COULD flash that phone over to PagePlus and use it as a backup phone , I have a guide on howto do it

Well, you CAN use wifi once you are in the air, but I think its just SwitchPro that lets ya do that.

maybe so but by DEFAULT airplane disables ALL radio communication(s)

Yes, I am aware of that, just thought you could easily do both (which you can, but forgot you can't do it natively I guess).

Also, to the original poster. Keep both phones. That way you have a back up in case the new one fails or gets lost and you don't have to pay insurance. Assuming you're on Sprint, you get the Premier Customer upgrade every 12 months.

I don't know or care who you learned it from. Just because others do it doesn't make it right.
As to the post above yours he was polite and pointing out there was also another thread of similar topic. He made no moderation comments.
This is not your first time, and it's not the first time someone has made a similar comment as mine to you. AKA this is not the first time someone has called you out on this issue.
Just because you see others doing it, does that make you want to copy their actions?
At most I was trying to let you know in a polite way how you are coming across to other members. And an easy way to report the post and save being known as a wannabe MOD.
Your right I don't own XDA and as such everyone has their own views and opinions.
You can take the comments I made however you want, but the intention was a little friendly advise from a very experienced and long time member of XDA

I'm torn. I love the sleekness of the sensation..but it feels a little slippery to me. My main reason, and probably most other users main, is protection. The thin and barely there cases only really help with scratches. i've dropped my phones on occasion so that is why i'm torn. I've tried to dedicate a pocket for it but that isnt working out lol. Always ends up with keys, lighter or my benchmade I've already had it replaced for damage and asurion only gives you 2 replacements so i gotta be careful. If they get this thing worked out and the bugs fixed, i'll probably put a case on it. If i gotta deal with bugs for months, i'll probably go naked and kinda hope (in the back of my mind) for it to get damaged a few more times so i can jump ship and get a better device

as many of you guys may have noticed, i've been treating "noobs" rather harshly, without helping them, and just junking the thread.
also, with my other actions against certain people in the forums.
if you have been hurt by my harsh replies and posts, i'm sorry. i don't mean to be mean, but sometimes it's hard. been pretty down lately, and i guess it's having a huge effect on my activity on XDA. i don't mean to cause anyone embarrassment, trouble, or harm. seriously. i just need to remember that at the end of the day, we're all equal, we are all humans, and everyone should be treated equally, with respect.
i'm a Senior Member on XDA, with over 2,000 posts, and over 600 thanks.

You guys realize that you just look like security guards, right? No real power, but love to think you do by being sarcastic flamers. You're annoying for no other reason than to think you're somebody you're clearly not. You took time to be annoyed instead of continuing to scroll. I am obliged to reprimand the OP bit because I think WP8 on our phone would be awesome, I don't mind seeing this here. And I am glad everyone now knows about this. I bet there are many others interested.

Whether or not they are being like security guards, they are right about this going in general. As there is currently no actual development taking place, this is just a thread clogging the dev section. Until there is at least a preview build, this should be moved. Honest mistake by the op. I'm searching for a new usage of my N5. I still love it, that's why I won't sell it, but I have no idea what to use it for.
I already googled but.. Well I don't won't to use a 350€ device just as a desk clock
Any ideas are welcome

There's nothing wrong with using an iPhone. I have an iPhone 6 that I use, and I love it. It's a seriously awesome device. Just do what I do, and switch between the two. Sometimes I feel like using Android and when I do, I use my N5 or 2014 Moto X. And sometimes I feel like using my iPhone. So I just pop the SIM card out and switch phones at my leisure.
If that's not an option you could use it as a dedicated media player. Or a WiFi only web device. Use it for everything you used to use it for except making calls.

No prob bud. I wouldn't want to sell my N5 either, it's amazing how well it's held up even though it's over a year old. Like I said before, I have a 2014 Moto X and I still use my N5 all the time. I always sell my old devices to pay for my new ones but the N5 was an exception. I actually did sell my first one, and ended up regretting it so much that I sold my OnePlus One to buy a new N5 a few months ago lol.
