Aren't we just assuming that stock apps are included? If not, there's a lot of people with top 10 lists that need to remember things like phone, contacts, sms etc.

Has anyone gotten facebook working?
The app can be sideloaded... some have reported it working - for me it crashes about half the time tho.

The "Facebook App" that is included with the device is really just an icon that loads the mobile website into the Silk browser. It's not the real Facebook app and you can't download the App from the Marketplace or the Google Market.
If you sideload the App, it appears to work when you first open it, but then later it will ALWAYS force close when you go to your News Feed. The only way to get it to load again is to clear the Cache and Storage area. So, the real Facebook App is actually useless on this device right now and you should just stick with the Facebook URL hyperlink icon that comes with the device.
I see, thanks for the explanation.
Anyway, on a 7" pad it should be comfortable to use the Facebook website, so what's the point in having a Facebook app ?

The mobile website IS pretty good now, but there are some things missing from it. For example, Facebook chat. You could just use the Messenger app, but still, it's nice to have everything in one place.
That is just one example, though.
i kinda prefer the Messenger app over Facebook app's own chat. so, Messenger works on the rooted Kindle Fire?
facebook app alternative
I don't know if any of you have tried out friendcaster but it's a great replacement for facebook. I use it on my viewsonic gtablet and it does everything the facebook app does and more.

18 apps running at the back

ok, so basically, turned on my phone and just by curiosity tried to clear OUT RAM using the program monitor widget and it most of the time closes about 18 apps...
is there a ways to know what those apps are and if they are needed to be running in the background?
the second thing is,I'm trying to know which App i need and not, so i listed what i see from the apps list of FitDroidv2.0... can you tell me which of there i need and which i don't?
thanks...
Note: the list are on the attachment...

in this case, email is for gmail right? won't you have problems with market?
Those are just stock apps.....
They should not slow down the phone that much.....
You can always remove those apps using Root Explorer app....
Or you can disable them from starting at start up using a third party app....
I use "Android Assistant".....
No email and Gmail are seperate.I use titanium backup to uninstall all this bloatware

Facebook

this is my very 1st tablet, always had android phones b4
could some1 explain me why both facebook app e mobile site look so ugly and differently than on phone?
even the new upgrade which should have share button: I can c it on phone but not on tablet
This is simply because Facebook has not optimized their app to be used on a larger interface.
The two options to circumvent this dilemna are as follows:
1) Download Friendcaster from the Play Store. It works well with tablets.
2) Go to Facebook.com and tap the ticker that allows for the full desktop version of the website to be shown.
I typically access Facebook.com directly through the browser and it's almost as good as the desktop version. There no real reason to use the app, imho.

It's funny, I've had Android tablets for so long I'm just used to the sometimes crappy app interfaces. Check this one out.
Samsung used to include a Social Hub which, while not very pretty, was great for aggregating FB, Twitter, and LinkedIn together and getting one set of notifications and being able to interact your feeds in a single widget. It's missing from the Note for some reason (I'd pay a bounty to get it back. )
The closest thing(s) I've found are an app called APW to manage Twitter and FB timelines and it comes with an excellent resizable widget. For LinkedIn I use Droidin Pro.

[APP][HOW TO] Chat on Facebook without using Messenger[Various method]

How to send messages on Facebook without installing the messenger app in Android
Facebook, recently decided to undertake this fairly unpopular practice – while the former decoupled the check-in feature to a whole new app, called Swarm, the latter decided that its users shouldn't be able to chat from the main Facebook app anymore, but make use of the chat head-wielding Messenger instead. The latter has been allegedly gaining market share in favor of its messenger rivals, but isn't forcing it to users the main reason behind this?
Click to collapse
Well, forced things are never highly looked upon and quite a lot of users have expressed their utter displeasure with Facebook for taking the messages away from the main app. If you're one of the distressed Facebook users, rejoice, as a workaround exists that will allow not Messenger, but your main Facebook app to handle your messages. Of course, you can always go to the mobile version of Facebook and access your messages from there, but a lot of users probably prefer to delve into one of the most popular social networks through the dedicated app.
Click to collapse
We'll show you the ropes on how to do this, but you should have in mind that this method only works for some users. Facebook will surely find another way to force Messenger upon them in the foreseeable future, but for the time being, at least some of the users of the social network get to do things their way.
So here it goes with the method 1.)
A quick guide for those who want to use Facebook messages without downloading facebook messenger.
Step 1
Uninstall Facebook messenger (if you have it installed)
Step 2
Make sure you have Unknown sources enabled from device settings
Step 3
Install the attached apk (hello world application) or create a new (empty) android project with the package name com.facebook.orca
As long as the only validation that the facebook app does is checking to find if an app with package name com.facebook.orca is installed on the phone this should work
Thanks to @nemoc 23 For his guide
I'll attach the Messenger.apk in the attachment too.you can download from there too
Method 2.) [For Non-Rooted Device]
Make sure you have Facebook official app already installed in your smartphone (no need to root), and if the Facebook app is not allowing you to chat with your friends, then try to download the Facebook messenger initially from Google play store, here is the tricky part, before completing the download (100%) cancel the downloading of Facebook messenger (make sure it’s not installing) and yeah, you are ready to use the official Facebook app again to chat with your friends, give a try and tell us if it’s working for you or not!
Method 3).[For rooted device]
STEP 1: Download the official Facebook Messenger App from Play Store.
STEP 2: Download “TITANIUM BACKUP” or “DISABLE APPLICATION” App from Play Store
STEP 3: Open Titanium Backup and give it ROOT privileges. Scroll down to Messenger App
STEP 4: Select the Messenger App which will result in a dialog box to open up. Hit the “FREEZE” button which will freeze the application eventually.
STEP 5: Once the app is freezed it will be highlighted in blue tint color.
STEP 6: Now open the Facebook App and go to the Messages section of it.
STEP 7: Choose the person you want to chat with and you are good to go!
Enjoy the freedom until it lasts! Feel free to let us know if there are any other method and we will update this post with those methods too!
Thanks mate for sharing these methods. It is really helpful but anyway I prefer to use messenger since it has more features
Thanks For sharing all the methods man
The messenger.apk really worked well :good:
Works as advertised! Cheers mate.

Nice post, could you help explain the benefits of Huawei Assistant? i have seen it but not had much time to play with it.
Yep, there's loads of alternatives out there to Google, I'll be getting the P40 range when im due for an upgrade, it will be refreshing to try something that isn't always sucking up data about you (Google). I think/hope people are starting to realise "Ok Google" means its listening all the time and it listens for other things too, like when you say to your friends/family "we should get this" ..... " this" pops up on your personalised ads. If anyone wants to browse without Google getting their information - use duckduckgo, only downside is it doesnt store your browsing history if you need to look back at it (but its a privacy browser...go figure) if not use the Huawei browser it has a "do not track" mode

Main problem is that you need microG to not crash .. unless a recent update has fixed.
Very similar to Google Photos .. but you need Prime to get extra features .. I have a slideshow loop with Amazon Photos with Prime! I really missed that with Google Photos.
Has face identification, places, albums, timeline, etc.
I have exported all my photos from Google Photos and imported into Amazon Photos
Emails exported from Gmail into Outlook.
Files exported from Google Drive into OneDrive (but might move to Amazon Drive in the future).
