Preferably one with a widget where I can quickly view, create, and edit a list of the things I need to do that day. Suggestions?
That would be awesome. I need the same thing. I got a wedding coming up and I have so much to do.

I'll second Astrid.
I just use the google calendar.... it seems easier to enter the stuff in on my pc....you can do it from the phone too... and then just use the calendar widgets....
I set "to-do" things as all day events.

No can do. I'm not about to clutter my calendar with things like "pick up laundry."
I've used "color note" for a while. Basically a sticky note style widget, but the To-do features were surprisingly good. Very easy to add tasks and check them off. Of course, evernote is just awesome simply because your notes are everywhere, but I find it to be too much for the kind of quick To-do list you're talking about.

I also use astrid, but i have used one that syncs my notes online too so that when i reformat my phone and try a different rom (once a day kinda thing for me lol) i dont lose my todo list for my job. i'll have to try to find the name of that one, but if you look in the market it should be easy to find, their main feature is it syncing online and they put it right in the description.
Eh, I tried Astrid, but the widget is horrible.

ok - now you're talking my language. I live and die by my task manager.
I use the ToodleDo task manager at the office. Its a pretty solid task manager and does everything I need it to (which is pretty extensive) in the free version. There's a web interface where you login to the website to access your tasks (which are all stored online), but there's also FF addon that adds instant access to your tasks in a FF sidebar - this makes adding and editing tasks on the fly quick and easy. They only provide that web access though, so although it can be accessed by a mobile browser (meh), they have no android presence.
Here's where it gets interesting.
I have an app called Got To Do, which is a pretty decent android task manager in its own right, but what's cool is that it can also sync up with my ToodleDo account online. So the app gives instant access to all of my ToodleDo tasks. They have a widget, but it's not that great.
But I also have the Pure Calendar widget (which is an a amazingly customizable agenda-showing calendar widget), which can sync up with Got To Do.
So the bottom half of my main homescreen is the Pure Calender widget, not only showing me agenda items from my exchange and google calendars, but also my relevant tasks from ToodleDo/GotToDo. And I have Pure Calendar to open Got To Do when pressed, so my tasks are always one click away. I find myself accessing my tasks almost exclusively from my Evo at this point because of how easy it is.
Elegant productivity enhancement, or just OCD? You decide.
And before it comes up, the cpu and battery drain from all this syncing have been negligible on BS.
I use gtasks. It auto syncs with my Google Tasks on my gmail account and has a simple and nice looking widget. It is also very simple, which is what I was looking for.

Use the app Gtasks, anything you put in will go to your task list on google calendar, thus eliminating clutter.
Or an alternative is to use the app Jorte -- it's a calendar app/widget that links with your google calendar. You can create more than one calendar on google calendars, and turn of the visibility of the new calendar while viewing your calendar online.

Uh... Microsoft Paint?
I just released a first BETA of my Bookmark to Desktop app. It allows users to share pages from the Android browser straight to the bookmarks bar of Google Chrome/Chromium on their desktop.
The app can be found on the market under the name "Bookmark to Desktop (BETA)"
The Chrome extension can be found on chrome.google.com/extensions if you search for 'bookmarktodesktop'
A firefox extension is on the roadmap.
IMPORTANT: Both the app and extension are in a beta phase so feel free to report bugs, comments or feature requests.
Thanks for this. Will try it out.
Another developer wrote a firefox add-on that works with the app.
Now both Google Chrome/Chromium and Mozilla Firefox are supported.

cool, but where to download the app?
I am going to give this a try. I use chrome to phone and have wished for this function. Just out of curiosity - you didn't want to call it "phone to chrome"?
going to try it out but... chrome to phone hardly ever works for me. never sends link and NEVER lets me sign out after it gives me the error. really ticks me off!
dose this use appspot.com?
The idea is useful. It is sync between desktop and phone?
The reason I did not call it phone to chrome is because:
1. I did not want to limit myself to 1 browser
2. The extension does not have push yet. Currently the app polls every 30minutes and a manual fetch button is available.
Instant push that opens the bookmark in a new tab is coming very soon.

thanks for the nice app, I actually have been looking for something like this for quite some time
One question though: where are the accounts created/stored? I assume they are not bound with google account, so I am guessing they are managed by you?
Cheers

chat works great, push notifications doesn't work. still have to check app just for the notifications :/
Great for letting us know
Okay, a question about chat since I've never had it before through Facebook. How is your online status "toggled" while using chat?
So if I open up the facebook app, and look at my news feed, am I now online? And to go offline, do I physically have to go into facebook chat and click "go offline"?
Also, if I want to be on chat, but have it run in the background, how can I confirm that it's running?
The entire user interface seems very poor. Wouldn't the ability to toggle chat on/off and easily access conversations and your status from the notification bar be essential in this type of app?
notifications works fine for me... kinda odd though since the messages and other stuffs still uses interval... only the posts and such has push.

Yeah, I see that. But there's no "Go online" option, is there? So how do you ever know if your online or offline? I don't know, I'm used to Go!Chat. There should be some clear toggle option.
How about for people that never want to appear online?
For example, I just opened up facebook on my phone and hit chat. I guess I'm now online? So now I hit android home. Am I still online? How is there anyway of knowing? Online until when?
It's completely non-functional as a useful mobile chat app.
[edit]
I've also tried multiple times to close "active conversations", and they keep showing back up on all refreshes. I was looking forward to native facebook chat, but I'll stick with 3rd party apps until they can improve this.
Chat and Push both are working flawlessly on my Droid 2. Rooted but running a pretty much stock OS.
About time they got this one out. Was doing this with a blackberry almost 2 years ago. I am now able to remove about 4 apps that I was running in order to cover my FB account while mobile.
Nice work Devs!
Push notification working good on my evo. I was also using f plus and had it set for five minutes and I'm getting notification quicker with the official app
I download it from market but installation failed. Did I do anything wrong or it is caused by android build on HTC HD2?
Long conversations
And still it is not possible to have long conversations. Quite annoying

The "Facebook App" that is included with the device is really just an icon that loads the mobile website into the Silk browser. It's not the real Facebook app and you can't download the App from the Marketplace or the Google Market.
If you sideload the App, it appears to work when you first open it, but then later it will ALWAYS force close when you go to your News Feed. The only way to get it to load again is to clear the Cache and Storage area. So, the real Facebook App is actually useless on this device right now and you should just stick with the Facebook URL hyperlink icon that comes with the device.
I see, thanks for the explanation.
Anyway, on a 7" pad it should be comfortable to use the Facebook website, so what's the point in having a Facebook app ?

The mobile website IS pretty good now, but there are some things missing from it. For example, Facebook chat. You could just use the Messenger app, but still, it's nice to have everything in one place.
That is just one example, though.
i kinda prefer the Messenger app over Facebook app's own chat. so, Messenger works on the rooted Kindle Fire?
facebook app alternative
I don't know if any of you have tried out friendcaster but it's a great replacement for facebook. I use it on my viewsonic gtablet and it does everything the facebook app does and more.
I have a strange device from Alibaba (Touchwo panel https://www.alibaba.com/product-det...a2756.order-detail-ta-ta-b.0.0.5d732fc2KN7LdB) that came with Android 11 and most components, including Play Services, but it doesn't seem to have come with the Calendar Storage component. I tried to get a random .apk and install that but it didn't work, and I have no idea where I would find one specific to this device. Is there any way to install the component or otherwise get calendar apps to work? I just need one that syncs with Google Calendar and that I can use as a widget.

I don't understand what you're asking. Using the calendar within a browser is not helpful to me, I want to place a widget on the home screen. Or, if you're asking me to open the built-in calendar app, that doesn't even open without Calendar Storage installed.

If you are not satisfied with the help provided in the form of discussion, I can't help it.
Welp, then find Calendar Storage app, from some ROMs, this app is mostly same from ROM to ROM.
Find/use a free 3rd party calendar app. Find one that's ad free and allows for backup. Samsung's have one integrated into their ecosystem so I never pursued one. I try to avoid using Gookill products...
I can actually relate, i dont use Google apps too. like for one or two years, Disabling them gives large slice in privacy and productivity and battery life with memory as well.

A map app that doesn't need Gmaps running in the background be nice. Gmaps always runs at start up. Trashware and spyware.
I still use Gmail but manual sync only and Google play Services is temporarily disabled unless I use Gmail. Framework, backup Transport and Playstore disabled. A bunch of other Google trashware as well. At least a 15% boost in SOT and screen off time savings. Makes a huge difference on this stock N10+. Google is a mess and only getting worse... internet Krokodil.
Fortunately there are a lot of great 3rd party freeware apps especially if still running on Android 9. Google is making harder for developers as Android becomes more of a rotten Apple with each OS release. Google aka Spectre.
