Incoming calls going directly to Voicemail - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I'm in an LTE area (NYC). When I'm at home, incoming calls to my Samsung Skyrocket go straight to voicemail even though I have 2-3 bars reception. I can make outgoing calls, surf, send/receive texts. Elsewhere in the city, I don't seem to have this issue, though every now and then the calls will randomly go to voicemail.
AT&T have been trying to sort out the issue - replaced my SIM, rebuilt my file (whatever that means), run some network tests but haven't been able to solve the issue and are about to tell me to go the HTC if I want LTE.
We have AT&T 3G iphones & blackberries at home and they have had zero issues, it's not that the home is in a bad reception area. so this is either a phone/handset issue or a LTE network issue (I hear that only data travels on the LTE network, voice goes on 3G, so perhaps there's an issue with that setup?)
Wondering if anyone is having similar issues and/or have thoughts on how to fix this. I really like this phone and I'd like to keep it.
The phone is totally stock.
Many thanks.

I'm seeing that every once in a while here in SF where they just turned on LTE. I find that I have 1or 2 bars on LTE vs 4 bars on HSPA+ in my office. I just assumed it was switching between networks or the LTE coverage was poor as this doesn't happen all the time.

I had that same issue! and that is why i was looking for the answer, until a second ago.... have you recently installed Lookout? or any other "missing phone software"?? because i uninstalled lookout and i can now receiving calls. try it out, or think back to when it was working, and what has changed since then. Hope it helps.

cell reception not so good

Im on my second captivate (refurb). I have had it now for about a month. Everything seems to be better than my launch unit. GPS works. The only issue im having is I get no reception in areas where I had bad reception before. I work in an old building and getting cell service was spotty but I could always text and surf the web reguardless. Now Illl be on edge and have full bars but not be able to do anything. texts fail over and over. the internet hangs or tells me no network. Anyone else have this issue? Its frustrating because it shows service but nothing goes. When im out and about phone calls are clearer than my old unit but from time to time it wont send a text

LTE/HSPA+ handoff issues?

Recently there have been more and more occasions where my phone has gone from 4G LTE to "4G", but when I try to use the data, I am told I have no network connection. I would then turn airport mode on then off (or restart), and the data would start working again on "4G".
This especially happens if I have only one or two bars on "4G". I'm suspecting there is a problem handing off from LTE to HSPA+. Either that, or the phone is not reading how strong my reception really is.
Anyone else seeing this problem? I'm in one of the unofficial LTE markets, LA.
I'm not in LA, but i haven't had any of the problems you mentioned. I would imagine the hand-off issue is why AT&T has not officially announced LTE in LA.
Having similar issues. Problem sending sms, mms, and no data connection. Have to keep hitting retry in android market...

Same issue here, seems like it is a problem specific to LTE. my phone AND my elevate 4g hotspot device are both having the same connectivity issue when in a LTE market so i dont think it is the device, but more of an LTE issue.
When i traveled to a HSPA+ only area the connectivity issues we gone on both devices.
I have not had the issue since having att change my plan to lte

Yep, the issue is well known, but AT&T has yet to admit to it or fix it. I think it mostly happens in areas that are right in the area between a weak LTE signal and a weak 4G signal (as you mentioned). Apparently, AT&T's towers don't do a very good job at handling the switch very well. Possibly a registeration problem? It's as if the towers keep kicking the phone back and forth and the end end result is no data connection until you move a little closer to one of the towers.

I think this is the case, too. I didn't have this problem before they switched on LTE. It didn't have much trouble going between Edge and HSPA+.
I'm in LA, and this has happened to me more than a few times. Data doesn't work, so I turn on airplane mode, and turn it back on, and it starts working again.
Yesterday was an overall terrible day for general connectivity issues. Not sure if the network was having problems but I missed 2 of my calls for a few hours, couldn't send text. When I finally made a call out, the voicemails came in. After I was successfully making calls, I couldn't dial out at one time, so I had to restart my phone.
I actually have a customer having this issue...but ot is affecting his voice calls. he lives right between two towers and his phome will not commit to one over the other.

Same problem in Atlanta, an official LTE market. When it works, the speeds I get blow away cable - 25 Mbs down/ 15 Mbs up, BUT, any attempt to text a message with an attachment always fails. In addition, many of the notifications for network events never occur, or if they do, they occur hours, if not days later. Finally, an age old problem that ATT has never cared to resolve. Voice mail sits on their server for days without notifying me its there, then i get this deluge of several days of old voicemail. Know lots of people in ATL have had this experience. It's the inability to rely on notification of key messaging events (incoming call missed, missed while on phone, missed whil away, etc and same with textx and email that concerm me most.
Same here in DC...of course when I use the HSPA only APN i have no problems....but no LTE though.

Problems with Sprint Airave and Nexus 5

Ever since I got my N5, my Airave won't recognize it! The three beeps (on the phone) that indicate the Airave detects the phone aren't present. Dialing *99 to get the Airave to detect the phone results in a "code not valid" message. I'm getting calls going directly to voicemail when I'm at my house. It's horrible! Sprint reps naturally are no help. They say there's no incidents reported, and they try refreshes and all kinds of nonsense.
I've tried hard resetting the Airave to no avail. I've tried rebooting the N5, power cycling, you name it. Nothing works.
Anyone else having this issue? What are you doing to resolve it?

I had the same issue but after I changed the network mode in mobile networks to 3G it started to work. Try it out, hope that helps

No. Changing to 3g didn't help. If anything, connection was worse. Or at least it seemed so.
Thanks, though.

Yep having the same issue. It's a definite problem that's posted on the Sprint forums as well.
The mobile network 3G change might work but is not a fix. I have 0% 3G signal at my house and just about a single bar LTE. If I change to 3G only while at home and drop off the Airave, call lost. At least on LTE, I have a fighting chance of keeping the call.
As of yet, I have heard no reply from Sprint.
Just got off the phone with Sprint. Third time. They pushed a PRL update to the Nexus 5. The phone still isn't beeping, which indicates a connection to the Airave. But I'm getting a *slightly* better connection. They told me that even if they sent a new Airave, it wouldn't help much, as all the phones in my house (my son also has a Galaxy S4) are on LTE, and the Airave works with 3G. I asked if there was any point, then, to having the Airwave. He insisted there was.
I don't know, you guys. These Sprint reps make little sense.

What do you know. I ran the PRL update and verified that mobile network stayed as LTE. Rebooted. Dialed *99 and connected to Airave!
Maybe give it a day and try to update the PRL again. It obviously worked for me.
If you're in a location with an Airave you've got to also have an internet connection. Use wifi for data in that case. The Airave is there to improve phone calls and SMS, which are not using the data connection. The Airave data connection will allow some functions that insist on carrier-based data, but shouldn't have anything to do with a regular phone call. MMS functionality may be questionable.
Not to bump an older thread but I figured I'd post my experience with the airave in case any other people were looking for advice.
The tri-band phones and LTE are sort of the problem. Mostly because they want to use that sweet eHRPD to hand-off between LTE and EV-DO. The airave (including the 2.5+) obviously can't hand-off between LTE and 3G and that is sort of the crux of the issue. Newer tri-band phones will sometimes ignore the airave completely despite poor or intermittent LTE signal. So, while my wife's Nexus 5 was pleased as punch with the airave mine was too busy humping a tower to the west of my home to care.
The common fix to this problem is to either turn on Wifi or set your preference to 3G and see if your phone will pick up the airave (assuming, of course, you've updated your Profile and then your PRL). Neither of those worked for me so I called up the airave support at Sprint and they pushed a corporate PRL to my phone and my Nexus 5 now hangs out on the airave when I'm at home. I haven't moved around town enough to tell whether or not this particular PRL will pull local towers when I'm away from the airave. As an imperfect solution I backed up my EFS (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2514095) in case I need to change/update PRLs when I'm out and about.

T-mobile call dropping issues?

Hi, I just got my Nexus 5 yesterday and it was fine and all except for today. I go on wifi and sometimes I don't even recieve calls like I am suppose to.
As for LTE, it switches from LTE to H to 3G quite a lot; one time it even switched to edge for no reason.
Also, it dropped a call not to long ago.
I live in dayton Ohio and I wanna know what is up. Is the tower having problems? Is something wrong with the Nexus 5? What's up?
No, I personally haven't got any dropped calls, but I have heard of other people getting them. My only issue sometimes is people telling me they have been texting me and me never receiving the message.
I was to. What fixed it for me was switch to M8974A-1.0.25.0.15 modem. Deleting all but the fast.Tmobile APN. And changing the APN type to (default, supl, mms, admin, dun). Can't guarantee that this will fix it for you.

Data issues in NYC this week, LTE showing on but not working.

So this week has been strange with signal, I have not had an LTE signal for a while and only had 3G then yesterday LTE popped back up. So today sitting at my desk with LTE showing connected I am not getting some emails and my BBM messages where not coming through to me. Someone sent me a WhatsApp message instead and that worked but when I try to sent out a message on WhatsApp it takes forever for it to go out. My text messages seemed to be working fine though.
I tried both Global and LTE and the same result, I now switched to 3G only and a ton of BBMs and emails just came through as I connected to 3G service.
I wonder if it is my N5 or just the Sprint service, so annoying...
well, sounds like an issue with your network(sprint). i read/hear lots of issues concerning sprints lte service. im on tmobile lte, no issues whats-so-ever in nyc
