Unable to buy apps in the ICS Market - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I seem to be one of the unlucky few that are unable to purchase apps in the Market on ICS. I get the ever helpful "An error has occurred" message when I try.
Here is an interesting twist, though: I also am unable to buy apps in the default ICS browser. I have to download Dolphin Browser if I want to be able to buy apps on the go.
This makes me wonder if there is something in the browser that the Market app used that is preventing me from buying apps. Any one else having this particular problem?
My carrier is Wind Mobile in Canada.

Can't help - sorry. I'm on Kwiboo's V3 if that helps at all.....

Which ICS you running?
I had the same problem with Drew Garens ICS stable v1. Restored back to beta v2 and all was fine. I've since switched to Eugene's ICS #3 and market works there to. I read somewhere of a person having the same issue with CM9 alpha12, but CM9 alpha 11 was fine. Since Drew Garen's is a kang of CM9 perhaps it inherited the issue.

Having the same problem on CM9 alpha 13.

Another factor just occured to me. I didn't enter a credit card on market setup, instead i charge to my T-mobile account. I wonder if those not having purchasing issues entered a card.

Since Eugene's ICS #3 and Drew Garen's ICS beta2 both work for me on market, I wonder if they are both based on CM9 alpha 11. Can anyone confirm what vesions they are kangs of? I looked at their thread and can't seem to find mention of it.

Are you only having problem BUYING the apps? Because I can't buy them or download free ones, I'm running CM9 and I'm a complete noob to rooting, etc so I don't know if it's Alpha 11 or Alpha 13, I do know that my WiFi doesn't work and it's the one by Koush.
It worked to download 1 single app but after that, nothing.

I have no problem downloading free apps or updating existing apps... Only buying apps for some reason.

[Q] Is it wise to wait for stable cyanogen mod

Hi,
I've searched but I didn't find this.
I've read that some phones never get a full "stable" release of cyanogen. I am currently running masters voodoo rooted rom but I quite fancy CM. Does it look like there will be a stable version, and does anyone have any idea how far in the future that might be.
Or is the current RC solid as a rock right now, or does it have bugs.
Thanks
Nexus S is a CM officially supported phone, it will certainly get CM7 final. I've been running CM7 RC1 since the day after I got my phone a bit more than a week ago, so far it works quite well and stable.

Thanks for your reply. I'll hang on then. I'd prefer to get the stable version. Any idea how long they think it will take. I've been on cm forum googling, but not getting anywhere.

Rule 1 of CM: Don't ask for ETAs.
Build #11 and above of nightlies are based on Android 2.3.3.
#12 probably seems the most stable. I'm using #13 and its fine for me although people have reported problems.
If you want pure stableness, it'd be RC1 but it is on 2.3.2

RC1 is just a nightly that was the line where they thought it was stable enough to promote. I don't think it's any more or less stable than any other nightly.

RC2 coming tonight.
I had a lot of problems with CM7, but I was running Honity, as well. My experience was one of instability. I switched over to Axura and like it a lot.

I tried Axura last night and didn't like it at all. Also tried cm7 nightly 14 and I wasn't keen on it either. So far I haven't seen anything I like better than masters deodexed 2.3.3, so I'm back on that.

Just out of curiousity, what didn't you like about Axura?
On a more related note, as a flashaholic I've flashed every ROM available for the Nexus S and CM7 is the one I use as my Daily Driver. I'm on RC2 and can't remember the last time I had a random reboot. The other ROMs I have NANDroids of to be able to go between are Stock 2.3.3, Axura, and MIUI (I'm waiting for it to become a little more fleshed out before I really give it a go as a daily driver).

Did you try flashing a different font or using font changer for root on the market? If that was really your only complaint you can very easily change such things.

I didn't know about either of the options you mentioned and I might just try them. I have no idea where you get fonts to flash, or what format they need to be in, and do you flash them the same way you flash everything else??

Chrome Browser for Android-- Can't download?

Hey folks,
So the Chrome team finally released Chrome for Android and you can find it here:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.android.chrome
But it seems like it doesn't support the G2x?
I can't find it on the Market App on my phone, and when I go directly to its page on the web and try to install it, it doesn't show a supported device. I wonder if this is only for rooted G2x's with custom ROMs, or if it just won't work on the G2x.
I have the latest SinghUI on mine, but I suspect Chrome just doesn't support LGE LG-P999's at all right now. Is it just me or is this happening to anyone else?
You need to have ICS (Android 4.0) for this app.
When you look at apps on market.android.com, it will show that on the right hand side, this app says:
REQUIRES ANDROID:
4.0 and up
So yes, doesn't support G2X yet, as G2X doesn't have 4.0
It only works with ICS according to the press release.
Oh. Duh. Thanks.

I don't think MIUI users think they are using ICS at least I hope not. They just added some ICS functions into the framework, but since the Galnet lists the OS as 4.0 in the system information it might work most likely not though.

Galnet MIUI is just a gimmick created to get users to use and support their work. Looks and functions exactly like Gingerbread MIUI.
If you go into most miui threads alot of people think they're running ics. A friend of mine who I didn't know was into hacking android was showing someone how he was running ics on his old htc. When I looked at his phone and saw what it was I backhanded him across the face, explained to him what he really had running and then challenged him to a duel

[Q] system update 4.0.4 with teamos 1.0 rom

Hello, i installed the teamos rom stable a week ago, and i'm very surprised to receive what it seems like an official update to 4.0.4. So i have a few questions :
1. Is it safe to accept this update ? I mean without loosing the teamos features ?
2. Could the teamos propose its updates the same way ?
Thank you
1. No. You will end up in a boot loop.
2. They don't have that capability to my knowledge.

How do we get rid of the update notification if we are running TeamEOS or Other custom ROM?

you need to get the paid version of Titanium Backup and freeze the android updater process to prevent the update notifications.
Edit.. well this worked on my phone to get rid of the notifications.. but i cant find the program that does it on CM9.. so i dont know

I agree the solution would be to upgrade to a 4.0.4 teamos version. Maybe they could tag this as a 1.5 stable So « simple users» like me wouldn't be afraid.
The problem still exists since a new 4.0.5 OTA would cause the same problem......

system update 4.0.4 with teamos 1.0 rom
I would never try to perform an official OTA update after a custom from has been installed. That is just asking for trouble. You also mentioned that you were running team eos's rom. I can tell you first hand experience, I've been a very loyal team EOS from user for my Xoom for several months and typically load every nightly they put out for my model. The reason I point this out, is because most times the developer roms xda are actually much further along than the official updates. The biggest example is the fact that ICS is not available officially from Motorola/Verizon as of yet. Plus you get so many features and functions you will likely not see in the official builds.
Others - feel free to help me explain, agree, disagree, etc....
Good luck,
®obert
I've tried many, and I mean many roms, mods, and themes. Hands down - Team EOS is the single most exciting, knowledgeable, helpful and down right customer oriented in the Android Development groups.

[Q] CyanogenMod 10.2.x won't sent sms

Hi everyone,
I just downgraded from cyanogenmod 11 to 10.2.1 - and I found everything works perfectly except for sending sms. E-mails, phone calls - even receiving sms is fine. I try to send an sms and it just gives me a notice saying 'message not sent'. If i look for more details it says 'error -1'.
I've done some googling and found somewhere on another forum that someone else said this was a problem with voice plus in non google voice countries. He didn't say how to fix it though. I've tried uninstalling voice plus, but it didn't seem to work.
I'm based in the UK using three mobile. Everything works fine on cyanogenmod 11 and touchwiz - I downgraded because of the stability issues in the latest cyanogenmod snapshot. Tried Slimrom but it wouldn't load on first boot for some reason.
If anyone could tell me his to get this working in be very grateful.
Thanks a lot.

Thanks Shapes - this is a US Verizon S3, I'm just using it in the UK. That's never been a problem until now. I tried the latest stable AOKP, (also JellyBean) and it had exactly the same problem. So I think it's pretty safe to say this is an AOSP JellyBean issue. Does anyone know of a stable KitKat rom for the D2VZW?
I've reinstalled the CM11 M3 snapshot for now, but would love something a bit more reliable. I might check out Synergy Rom, as I think that's based off TouchWiz rather than AOSP - just a bit reluctant to go back to Touchwiz for some reason.

Short answer: I got it to work. Skip to the end of the post if you want to just get the link...
Slightly longer:
Device: Samsung S3, US Verizon, SCH-I535
OS: d2vzw , CM 10.2.1 - last known stable version
Carrier: O2 in the Czech Republic
Prior to installing CM, I had it with ancient Android 4.1.2 (I did not do the OTA update). It was slow, full of bloatware etc.
Symptoms:
I could receive SMS messages but not send SMS.
I never saw "full reception" on the antenna icon on the status bar.
I had data when not on wifi - but it was slow.
Steps taken that did not make a difference:
Fiddling around with *#*#4636#*#* and trying everything written here: http://wiki.cyanogen.../w/SMSC_Updates
Voice+ was not the culprit either. I even under root deleted the apk, rebooted - same deal
Fiddling with the carrier mobile networks did not help either
This worked:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2394689
I hope it helps.
Best regards and drive safely,
Erez
