THIS PAGE IS NOW CLOSE THE PROJECT HAST MOVED TO A NEW THREAD HERE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585009
I have working on a project in the form of an app, which guides you through the installation of Ubuntu within android via chroot. It includes a ubuntu 10.10 image I have been working on which includes lots of program to allow users to develop program/scripts etc within Ubuntu on there phone/tablet.
However I have I have yet to get much testing on this device and would like more feedback from users!
Please post your device/kernel/rom along with what did and didn't work, so I can draw up what I need to change in the next release of the app/ubuntu build.
To keep up to date with updates and news of the project please check the website

ubuntu.sh(V5)
Full Image
This image is 1.5GB to download, once extracted 3.5GB, and include alot of programs like openoffice, thunderbird, firefox and over programs for 'developing' - Also allows you to switch between the LXDE and Gnome desktops, and you can define screen size on boot!
ubuntuV5-image.zip
Lightweight Image - This is yet to be included in an app, will be included in the next release (aka 2.0 ), so get it now before anyone else!
This image is just under 500MB to download, once extracted 2.5GB, and include only programs needed (LXDE desktop, web browser, + other basic programs) also allows you to define screen size on boot
ubuntuV5-sm-image.zip
12.04 images
I have now started work on building new 12.04 images these come in core (just the bear-bones ubuntu) and full (ubuntu with GUI and other programs) and will be updated as 12.04 moves through its milestones (and when I make new updates to the mods I make from the main stream arm port).
These are for testing ONLY until 12.04 reaches stable release.
You can view the images here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/linuxonandroid/files/Ubuntu/12.04/
I also want to build up a small group of testers who I can email with new images and scripts, these will include all future distros that I do. If you are interested in joining this test group please PM me or send a email to [email protected]
The only requirement is that your willing to test and send feedback along with screen shoots etc where required, it would also be good if your willing to try different roms and kernels for your device!

This is a guide to running a full ubuntu image within android, the guide includes links to everything you need etc, I have been working on the ubuntu image and guide for some time in the forums of devices I have so now want to expand to all android devices that can support it.
Does the HP touch pad have android/a android port? If so its quite possible this would work
Will test out. Ill report back to let you kno how it goes.
My Device: T-Mobile G2x (LG-P999)

Thank you very much guys! the more devices I can get tested the more I can fix, and give everyone a better Ubuntu in android.
Also will be updating the app in the future to make it even easier to install and run
I've tried so many times on my atrix with cyanogen and it hasn't worked. You just might be my Savior, I'll let you know in a day or two

Indeed there are really only to requirements, root and loop devices support, most custom kernels should include loop device support. If they don't you need to have a word with your devices kernel devs
I forgot to say there is also a donation version of the app for those that want to support me as i trug through Uni. The donation version will give you all updates before the free app and in the future extra features from the free version as i develop it further, this can be bought here
Anyway look forward to hearing all your feedback!
A little update for you all, I am in the process of uploading new images (will take a while on my connection) which include all updates up to today, I have noticed installing all the updates has increased the performance and feel some what which is nice. The desplay image included in the free app will also be changed to 800x480 to fit most phones, in the paid app images with 854x480, 1024x600 and 1280x800 will be included.
But because I do enjoy giving something a little extra back to XDA I will be adding to the first post download links for ALL ubuntu images so you can download them to your computer then put them on the phone/tablet if you wish
Can you upload a YouTube video on how it runs? Pls. If you can that would be cool. Thanks! I wanna try this out but I'm a Ubuntu noob. So bare with me pls, but I do learn quick. Thanks again! & can't wait to try it out.

You need to adjust VNC's settings to show true colour. Open VNC and scroll through the settings for the ubuntu connect, near the bottom you will find 'color format' change this to 24-bit color (4bpp), and you will want the new image that is the same rez as your tablet (1280x800)
New 800x480 and 854x480 images are uploaded the other two will be done today, sorry its taking so long my upload speeds are shocking, however the old image has had 250 downloads over the last two days, so im doing something right , once again please consider buying the paid version which will be getting many more features in the short future that he free one will not!
I have a question, is the paid version of the app showing up as compatible with you device? As someone has said its saying its incompatible even through the free one is compatiable
EDIT
I have now fixed the problem
All images are now done for the tablets etc, the paid app will be updated hopefully today to include them all, and the free app will include the 800x480 image
@zac,
Thanks for the YouTube video & it looks amazing. I can't to test it out when I get home. Cause I see that it recommends wifi for download. Cool. Thanks zac!

Thanks for bringing it to XDA.

http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-rooting-roms-hacks/35955-evo-hdmi-out-mirroring.html---ORIGINAL THREAD
Thanks to Orrebmas over at Android Central there is a working BETA version of the FULL HDMI for EVO.
All,
It is here finally, FullHDMI "limited time" public beta is attached in this post. This version is to mass test the app and get feedback before the next step.
I will be making an announcement later today about the beta and its purpose, but for now I am attaching it and going to get some sleep. You will need the Kernel posted several pages back on this thread to enable some features, and root. I just realized that non-root is broken as of this version.
Some of the things you need to know about before tinkering with the app, pasting quickly:

Most TVs have multiple options for aspect ratio. For example, zoom, hourglass, etc. Just make sure this setting is set to fill the screen.
I am not saying that is the case for all of you, it just was for me. Once I changed the setting, it filled the screen perfectly without messing with the X Y resolutions.
And also:

1- To achieve hardware acceleration, video memory (minimal) has to be used. Some poorly coded programs that also use video memory will try to grab a hold of the entire memory block instead of the available. This will cause them to crash when you are in hardware mode reserving a small block of memory to yourself. The only application that I found to be doing this is, strangely enough, HTC's Gallery (specifically video playback mode). Gallery video playback will keep trying to acquire the whole video memory, put the phone in a tight infinite loop doing so and eventually force close (after about 40 sec).
Compatibility or software mode does not use video memory and is safe to keep on while launching Galley video playback. Compatibility mode also does not make use of the "supercharged" feature, custom res or fullscreen mode.
2- FPS: Your frames per second will not be the same as on your phone. This is because the app is designed to keep the phone as primary display and output a secondary to the HDMI port. You are also outputting, most likely, a 1280x720 pixels which is almost ~2.5 times more the normal output. So in total you are pushing 3.5 lcd size screen worth of pixels (phone lcs + hdmi). Things can be improved if we freeze the phone display, but that wont be mirroring (maybe a feature in FullHDMI 2). Expect, however, to get more FPS in 3-D games (I get upwards of 40 fps on Raging Thunder 2) than 2-D sine he 2-D engine does the mirroring.
3- Lag: Some TVs (like Insignia) use an image enhancing and noise reducing engine. This extra processing puts the TV about half a second behind the phone making games unplayable by looking at the TV only. Watching movies is fine since nobody cares if the phone is a little faster than the TV. On this Insignia TV, I had to go in and turn off two image enhancing and noise reducing features, and now my phone and TV track together. I know Sony has its own engine, I do not know if the extra processing there introduces lag. I have two other TVs with no lag issues, but then they don't use any image enhancing engines.
Again, the app should not lag in mirroring, if you experience any lag then please check your TV and share your observation with us.
4- This app was not designed to display youtube or other apps that already work over HDMI. To use such apps you should stop FullHDMI from driving the HDMI signal first.
ENJOY
iF YOU DECIDE TO THANK ME FOR POSTING THIS UP, I APPRECIATE IT BUT NOT NEEDED..I DID NOT DEVELOP THIS APP IN ANY WAY, JUST POSTED IT FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT.

IMPORTANT..YOU WILL NEED TO UNZIP THE FILE YOU DOWNLOAD THEN THE KERNEL AND APK ARE IN THERE TO INSTALL!!! You will only need to do this for the RAR file. if downloading from a phone look below
I also uploaded the APK and kernel for everyone on top of the rar file so they can just do it on there phone also. So from the phone download the apk file and the zip file. place those on root of sd card and your good to go. Just boot into recovery and install kernel.

Great post. I guess we will see how this is received now. I must tell you that the mods here tell me that do not not like the spirit in which they say this app was developed . I hope this thread does well to inform people of this type of app and its uses... I also hope those who are against this app being discussed here can refrain from posting and just wait for the dev that they like to come up with their own app that is actually out and available to be tested and used .
I have been using the app for a week or so and am very impressed to say the least . Watching movies wherever j go from my phone has been most awesome.

SimplyWind0ws Jolly Rancher v0.2a
Hey guys Micheal Smith here and i proudly present you my newest creation,
SimplyWindows Jolly Rancher v0.2a!
[*]Introduction
This rom uses a special launcher called Jolly Rancher Launcher that was created by me from previous launcher's source.
The launcher was titled LauncherLi, Which was a launcher uploaded to Google Play with a low number of views and downloads.
The launcher is based off of Microsoft's Zune Player with the stunning 4.04 Ice Cream Sandwich OS Ported to the Epic 4g
by the one and only Cyanogenmod Team. Some people call it a build i call it NEW.! Something different. While people are
dying to get there hands on MIUI,CM9,Darky ROM, Peoples ROM and other magnificent creations, I wanted to create something
different also. I wanted android to have a new feel instead of the normal 5-7 homescreens. I knew that everyone has different
taste but i also took into consideration of the user's in the android community who love Microsoft Products such as WP7 and
Zune Player. I took it upon myself to create a rom for those Microsft/Android Combination Lovers. With an awesome performance
experience. Think of it as Zune UI running on a CM9 ICS Based Rom. Even the name of it sounds awesome right.? Well it has been
done and the hard working nights officialy paid off. So please android community i ask that you support me and my SimplyWind0ws
Series Project, Because it only gets better and better from here. The better my scripting skills improve, The better the outcome,
Dont you agree.? Well lets get down to business..
[*]Resources Used To Make This Happen
I will generate a list of resources used to make this rom stable and to give me a stunning vision.
*CM9 Beta 2 ROM(Thanks Cyanogenmod Team)
*LauncherLi as source NOT APP(Thanks Lilse_238_N_D)
*Halo Boot Animation(Thanks Auntie Dot)
*ZPlayer(Thanks Odesanmi) Note:ZPlayer Name is changed to Media Center
*A BIG IMAGINATION
[*]Eplanations To Make It Clear To Users
I will let you know exactly what i did here. I am fully aware that according to XDA rules adding paid apps into a rom isnt allowed.
LauncherLi isnt a paid app unless you purchase the Unlocker. I Didnt even build off of the APP Physically. I am great at Xml Creation
and i analyzed the layout of the launcher and figured it out just like that. Sounds Impossible.? It really isnt, When you get used to doing
things they become a breeze. But there were alot of issues. I didnt get some of the exact layouts correct so i used xml files and images from
LauncherLi and covered some of the things i missed. I wrote my own UI Strings for the launcher, But it does have some of launcherLi's UI Strings,
Only Because i didnt wanna takeover the launcher as completely mine and repost it. I left some of LauncherLi UI scripts and Smali files to
give the dev his credit. The dev is actually a Chinese man and cannot speak very good english. So his version of the launcher was a lil confusing
because of his mixed grammar. Why not just use the launcher completely and give dev full credit.? Because this improves my scripting skills and
my ability to create not just launchers but roms also. It helps me gain uninformed knowledge for any future releases i may distribute to the
community.
[*]Overview of the launcher
This launcher can be quite confusing to use on first attempts but once you are used to it, It feels just like home.
It uses basic UI Format for that easy use. There are launcher options to change HUB Display names and widget colors,
Font Colors and more. You can even change themes. Well Its not recommended because from what i understand when changing
themes it uses the original dev's generated servers. To be honest i dont even think there are any themes available for
this rom yet. But i assure you once support and development improves we will implement our own Theme server.
NOTE: The roms does give you a few tips on first use to get you started. I didnt add any of the extra WP7 based apps
because of compatibility issues when replace stock apps that are used with celluar service. They will be added in newer
roms though.

[*]Installation Instructions
Flash this how you would flash any ROM(CM ROMS Preffered)
*Wipe Data
*Wipe Cache
*Wipe Dalvik Cache.
AND FLASH ZIP FROM SD CARD!
When first booted up READ ONSCREEN EXPLANATIONS THOROUGHLY.! The HUBs arent prepared upon first boot, You
have to go to Applications menu, Press and hold an app that matches hubs on homescreen, And press pin to(Choose
the hub that matches the app you chose) and then it will be accessible from the homescreen. You can also turn an
app into a button that can be used in make items menu.
This rom was created by ME, With no ones help except for the useful resources, Not even my fellow Team Members.
They are assigned to dev on the next releases of the SimplyWind0ws Series.
[*]Simple Bugs Nothing Major
When editing any homescreen settings or launcher settings press back instead of home. Home button does nothing in some
cases.
Whenever you return to the homescreen menu, A notification appears in a toast message and in the status bar. The toast
message states updates are only launched by the dev(ME) and the status bar message says Jolly Rancher Successfully Load!
With the SimplyWind0ws Guy's Head as a icon. This happens everytime you return to the homescreen unless you DO NOT CLEAR
THE NOTIFICATION. Then it wont popup. This also may occur when rotating homescreen. Yes this launcher does support
auto screen rotations.
Thats pretty much it. Like i said this is my first OFFICIAL Project and this is the start of my SimplyWind0ws Series so may
i ask that the XDA and Android community support me the whole way.
Download Link: http://BillionUploads.com/vjx6qywyj08w
Warning: I built this off of CM9 Cricket rom which has crickets data settings, The rom was officially started for cricket users. But if you guys know how to Configure APN's Then there shouldn't be any problems.
BE NICE AND HIT THAT THANKS BUTTON PLEASE.!
ENJOY.!

Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I am trying to post screenshots now. Posting IMG tags on screenshots is very difficult for me on XDA. I dont know why but it is.
And to reconfigure APN's open up voice dialer app and say "Open APN's" and add your sprint settings in there. If you dont know much about sprint settings such as MMSC EtC. then google is your friend. You can also edit the apns-conf.xml.
And i am new to writing OP's so bear with me on this one.
Crickett?? dang, I wish I knew more of the other side, i would like to try this. And i would love to see some screen shots if you have time.
Good luck in your learning, and keep trying.
You can use it with sprint too. But you might have to reconfigure your apn's which shouldnt be hard. And i am currently PM'ing a Moderator on help to getting my Screenshots transferred to XDA. And thanks ^____^

you are not alone on that being a *****. sometimes screens will work if they are inline, sometimes not. sometimes only large image. and sometimes only small. it is a crap shoot. lol
LOL Your right about that. I managed to link them to billionuploads. They are simply snapshots from Screenshot app on Google Play. Hopefully a moderator can put IMG tags on them for me
i have found that photo bucket for whatever reason( for me) has been the most reliable. but what a pain in the a**
Photo Bucket was actually used in my teams first official rom. Once again IMG tags were clueless to us so of course the kind moderators at XDA put img tags on them. But your right Photo Bucket is hard to work with. lol
Not building completely from source and posting the full source is frowned upon by CM.

I informed people what i used which was launcherLi as an idea. The launcher uses most of LauncherLi Main Xml's Smali's ETC. So basically if you want the source just open up a LauncherLi APK. Because alot of things are the same. I understand if i built this launcher straight from the ground up without any original sources. Then i would use github to distribute my source. I didnt even touch any settings in the CM9 ROM just the launcher and Boot animation. Since this launcher uses LauncherLi main Sources i cannot post the source strictly because it collaborates with the original developer, That is for him to do not me.

Meh, doesn't matter at this point. I'm still not feeling this dev team's work & history. Good luck to them.

because believe it or not, and get ready for this, there are many things that Windows does better than any Linux distro. Programs/Application management for one. Software compatibility (which I know is not at the fault of Linux, blame software developers for not developing a version).
Now, dont go thinking I'm a stereotypical Windows user. On a daily basis, I use Ubuntu 12.04, Fedora 19, Windows 8.1, and OS X 10.8.4. I use each OS for different purposes. I use Ubuntu as my web server. I use Fedora as my primary web surfing/testing/scripting box. I use Windows for games, databases, and file server. And I use OS X for any web development/graphics editing I have to do. I've tried just about all of them, at one point or another.

Ok, let's take a couple things into consideration... ALL Linux distros only take up 1.28% of the market share. Other takes up 2.11%. OS X takes up 7.18%. That leaves various versions of Windows at 89.43%. Info obtained from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems
Ok, now lets say you make wheels. Let's say wheels only come in 4 lug, 5 lug, and 6 lug. 90% of cars are 5 lug. 8% are 6 lug. 2% are 4 lug. What are you going to focus your production on? 5 lug wheels.
Simple fact of the matter is this: Linux is not virus free and never has been (http://www.neowin.net/news/a-history-of-viruses-on-linux). It is certainly more rare for a virus to occur. Windows has more viruses because Windows has more users. If half of Windows users went to Linux, there'd be an outbreak of Linux viruses.
There. Good now? Can you see what you couldn't before?

Another Gnome fan here, using the latest available on ArchLinux_x64, which I use for Android builds and other Android device transfers and such. I also use Windows 7 Pro_64bit for games and other proprietary stuff that Windows already has the licences for. I prefer Gnome Shell in Arch for anything I can do there, but Window's hold on the market, as you explained, makes it pretty hard to live Windows free. I have to use it at work also, even though a lot of my work involves opening several putty Unix sessions for monitoring. Sorry for the off-topic.

the carbon rom works pretty good. i installed it with jellybean gapps 4.2 after flashing carbon and after a reboot it hit me with a "Gapps is not responding" & Setup Wizard is not responding" over and over and OVER again .. so i popped the batter out and rewiped it/format system and what not and just flashed it WITHOUT Gapps .. works great and i love how it gives me the same feel as SlimBean works for my Samsung Captivate .. now i just need to find the right JellyBean Gapps that works with it .. THANKS FOR YOUR WORK!!! and wow at only 14 years old, youre making great strides! dont let up and keep up the good work!!
ok after playing around with it for about 10 min. i realized:
- the home button doesnt work now!!! (obviously a big problem)
- WiFi will not turn on
- ribbons work but to an extent
- the whole ROM runs super smooth and the Dark Carbon add-on is a MAJOR PLUS!!! (i feel like all roms should have this option)

No home button issue here... What recovery are you using. im using TWRP 2.4 and always do a fresh clean. Also you can try Blackhole or Thomas's Gremlin remover and see if that gets your home button back.
As for Google Apps. I use YourZGapps XS.. It's like Slim Beans Gapps but smaller .
And Ribbons, I'll look into it. I don't really use it so i didn't notice it. But thanks for noticing it!

Cricket Ignite
I just got my ZTE N9511 on Black Friday. Last night they stopped me from using PowerAmp Pro that I got from torrent downloads. Today I uninstalled it, installed Titanium Backup Pro and deleted Cricket Ignite off my phone... I am still wet behind the ears with all of this, will my phone be okay, and is there anything else I should take off my phone as far as system apps go?

custom rom for zte source ?
Anyone knows about A custom rom for the zte source?
@2012crazymexican
From what I have heard, there is no fastboot for the Source... which means ... well I don't know for sure but I believe you need fastboot in order to flash a custom ROM. I am far from a Dev, and have little experience beyond simple adb commands and a few fastboot commands. There IS a way to put software on this device, though I doubt ZTE is going to give out its secrets. If this phone becomes more popular then hopefully we will get some smart devs, like Hashcode for example, who can work on this phone. Until then, I will be doing whatever I can to unlock this device as best as I can.

So I'm a dumbass
The title says it all. Apparently I either deleted the wrong thing, or something, but I just got my Source this afternoon and did the root on it, and then installed Titanium Backup.... I did a backup of all the apps, but when I try to restore, I get multiple failures. Not sure what happened and frankly don't care, (the phone still works great minus the Ignite crap by the way) but I've found factory test mode and the recovery module...
Using this method I'd like some of you rooted folks to try and do a ROM dump. Try it from Factory Test Mode AND the Recovery Mode.
To get to recovery: Either restart the device and hold Volume Up, or completely power it down and start with the volume up.
Factory Test Mode: Same thing as recovery, except you use Volume Down.
I'm gonna do a DD on this and download the full SDK, see what I can figure out, but I am so not a Dev, dudes and dudettes, so it'll be up to the ZTE lovers out there to make it happen. I'm also looking to see about Link2SD support and EXT4 support, though with all the storage, it'll be awhile before I fill mine...
Still, this is a brand new phone, pretty much, and I'm gonna love messing around with it with you folks, but I've been around dev's and fankids before: androidforums Admire and Evo 4G threads, to name two. I sincerely hope that we can all work together to pimp this darn thing instead of fighting like a bunch of kids :highfive: I'll post my DD dumps and whatnot as I get them, and try on your devices as well. The more people we have working on this the better.
@DaemeonZane
Thanks for the info! Added to OP.

Recovery is crap... No zip install... no backup.... but a must have regardless.

I got this phone to learn on but I am finding out tbat there isn't much soft ware writtien for this model so I get to work with you guys on some real development instead of just flashing and recovering...

I got it to register just by having Windows Update look for dirvers. Picked a good ADB driver right off the bat.... Right now I've got root and am attempting to use an adb shell and rkdump to get a good image.... but under /dev/block I can't identify what's recovery, what's system, etc.; all I get is the following:
It's kind of a pain in my ass, because I'm not quite sure what's what, but if any of you have used ZTE devices before, you'd have a better idea of their naming conventions than I would... tell me what to dump and I've got you, just keep in mind I'm no longer stock (i.e., I've deleted a lot of the bloatware from the system)
@DaemeonZane
Excellent work! I will try the windows update idea. The driver for FTM is the only driver I couldn't find. I have ZTE_Android USB_Driver_For_Microsoft_PC and ZTE Handset USB Driver 5.2066.1.8 But neither of those provide the FTM driver. You are making good strides towards unlocking the potential for this phone. We do need someone helping who is a linux wiz or ZTE wiz.
Have you had any success with googling those listed items (like mmcblk0p1)?
#GREAT WORK! :good:

Welcome to the thread!
I'm excited to have as many ZTE Source owners working on this device as we can. Any help you can provide is appreciated. As far as any questions you might have, ... what you read here is it! Lol! You are correct. cricketusers.com/cricket-zte-source/ has a couple basic threads discussing specs, but that's about it. AndroidForums doesn't even have a whole lot on it... So we're it.
As far as googling the partitions, and whatnot, not so much, but it is what it is. I'm currently at work (Buffalo Americas) but when I get to the house tonight I'll be able to dig up a bit more. I'm a Linux enthusiast, but my main bag is actually networking and security... lol Still working on getting that dump, but if anyone figures it out and can make it happen, post it for the world to see... I've never had an Android in my hands that wasn't rooted and customized to some degree, and I'm not giving up on this one just yet... lol
Not a bad benchmark...
I'm having an issue attaching a screenshot right now. Benchmark was 14434. I'll get a picture up later.
Also, I managed to create a gz file... might help someone.

I will look into the cwm builder... As for the boot animations, perhaps you need to resize them. Not all are designed for our layouts. Just a thought.
*Edit* Using ROM toolbox pro I was able to change my boot animation. So it does work.

Ok i have been working on this for a few months and finally got around to uploading my latest build and decided to make this public. This is Firefox OS ported to Kindle Fire HD 7". It is still quite buggy but I believe alpha status sounds about right at this point. Here's some info about this OS in case people want to know the technicalities. This OS is based on AOSP 4.3 using hashcodes cm 10.2 device tree with some modifications. While it is based on AOSP Android, this OS is only based on it in the sense its core is based on android, it has no dalvik virtual machine so don't even bother flashing a gapps package with it, it wouldn't even recognize it inside the OS.
I have to give a big thanks out to Hashcode, for putting up with all my questions in the irc about building rom's considering i'm totally new to compiling an android os, much less troubleshooting the technical things. Also have to give a big thanks to the Mozilla dev's in their irc because they helped me quite a bit in figuring out how to get past the main bug i was having(especially gerard-majax). For those of you who weren't in the testing you would'nt know but the original builds of this would boot up to the firefox boot animation, flash a white screen and then blank. Managed to work around this rather than fix it for now thanks to them, along with answering alot of my questions that are more inside Firefox OS's realm rather than android's. Now that i mentioned that i have to thank all my tester that helped me get this project off the ground by testing the rom out and reporting any bugs, along with just reporting if the latest build worked. These people include but not be limited to: Jserrano56, LinearEquation, Ph0enix_216, r3pwn, viktormax3, trinaldi, south956, and Latonya1. If i left anyone out i'm sorry, i grabbed everyone's names from my sent items rather than browsing the entire thread where everyone volunteered. I will add screenshots as soon as i can.Screenshots added! Sorry for there not being any lockscreen pics, i can't take them because the shortcut for screenshot in Firefox OS is power + home button, and there are no softkeys in the lockscreen for homebutton...

Now let me list some bugs it has that are currently being worked on to the best of my limited capabilities:
[Pre-2/26]
Battery Gauge doesn't work - Fixed sorta (see new bug below that was caused by fixing this)
[2/26]
Gralloc is disabled because of bug with sgx gpu's so theres some laggyish graphics < Fixed [2014-03-12] (thank you mozilla devs for patching this!)
"Insert SIM Card" message is displayed on drop down menu and lockscreen < I'm looking into this, all i know is i need to figure out how to disable RIL
Camera is broken - now compiles sucessfully but still doesn't work (mediaserv crashes and burns)
Video Playback wont even initiate < still not sure about this problem, trying to look into it- Fixed [2014-05-20]
Issue where device tends to not want to come out of sleep mode unless plugged into charger < Looking into - Fixed [2014-05-20]
Bluetooth isn't working yet - Fixed [2014-05-22]
Miscellaneous GUI glitches < These are more than likely mainstream since version 1.3 was being stabilized until recently.
Charging Loop on lockscreen when charged by usb low power < still looking into this
sdcard is a bit glitchy
mtp isn't working (adb works fine though)
usb connection restarts every so often < probably related to why mtp isn't working
small boot animation < not sure if i should stretch this or fill in the background with blue or see if mozilla devs have a higher res version somewhere
Note that like i mentioned in the bugs, this is based on a 1.4 Pre-Release, which isn't exactly the most stable branch. If you are wondering why i used an unstable branch the answer is simple, 1.3 is based on ICS sources, and i didn't have an ICS device tree to work with. At this point i guess you could say this OS is comparable in a sense to Ubuntu Mobile OS, simply because android is more popular, but as i like odd things i decided to go for it with this ROM, so I will say this, if all you use your Kindle for is email, browsing the web and listening to music, then this ROM would be good for that, it was designed to be Completely html driven. It should run smoother than it does now in the coming updates.
So without further ado let me post some instructions for flashing this ROM:
***Notice*** Please make sure you have at least twrp 2.6.3.1 installed or you may encounter problems.
Download the ROM above and place on sdcard
Boot into twrp
Do a factory reset
Hit Install
Choose the ROM
Reboot
Profit!
Notice: I am looking for developers that would like to help me with this project as i don't know any C++ or C coding, so the bugs i can fix are limited to what i can find that is simple or simple enough in C++ that i can change a string here or there. So please if you aren't busy or are interested i would love some help fixing things.
Now for any developers that are interested here is a small tutorial on how to download and compile this because the process is slightly different than the android setup by a little:
First off i suggest reading the setting up the build environment herethat Mozilla made, but keep in mind some things when following their instructions, their build instructions were designed around the stable 1.3 branch which I'm not using, so certain things like the compiler versions they list are incorrect so for what they call for using as gcc and g++, install the 4.7 version. Another thing they don't mention because i stray from their path is you will in fact need Java, so make sure that's installed. i included a preset .userconfig to specify the correct version of gcc and g++ to be used, if its in a unusual path or something look in the .userconfig file to change it(its in the root folder of the build environment). I also advise setting the ccache higher than they put it at, it usually works at what they set it to but recently i couldn't get it to build until i set it to 5GB. One last thing i haven't automated yet is because this was a non Java using OS the signapk.jar file doesn't get auto-copied to the folder it needs to be in when the otapackage is made so if you ever make clobber or its your initial build remember to
Code:
cp tool/update-tools/bin/signapk.jar out/host/linux-x86/framework/signapk.jar
Ok that paragraph appears to be a bit of a mess but i think i put the core info for setting up a build environment in there. Next how to download and set everything up. First off goto the folder you want to set this up in(for me it was my home folder) and run
Code:
git clone https://github.com/stunts513/B2G.git
once that is done run this:
Code:
./config.sh tate
Now go do something for a few hours because its going to download a lot of data.
Now that it is done downloading there is something important you need to do or it will complain about missing dependencies, go into the frameworks/base/graphics/jni folder and rename Android.mk to Android.mk.disabled or just delete it. I suggest if you want to put this in another name other than your login name on Linux to "export USER=blah". Ok now things get different but simple, run this
Code:
./build.sh -jX
where X is the number of physical + logical cores your pc has. Once the build process finishes run
Code:
./build.sh otapackage
Once that is done you would think "yay my build is complete", but no it never could be that simple, lemme explain the next steps to do until someone helps me recode some python scripts.
Now that we have a signed apk we need to add some things to it to get it finished because the python scripts need some editing i don't know how to do. Go into the out/target/product/tate folder and open the zip file it created up, add the data folder into it. Now open the META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script and find this line
Code:
mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/by-name/system", "/system");
package_extract_dir("system", "/system");
right after it add these lines:
Code:
mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.1/by-name/userdata", "/data");
package_extract_dir("data", "/data");
and don't forget at the end to add the
Code:
unmount("/data");
before the
Code:
unmount("/system");
Now that that is over with grab the last command you see outputted in the terminal about running java -jar signapk.jar and modify it so it doesn't have the /tmp directory as the input file, and make the output filename whatever you wish. Tada theres a successful build for ya. if you want to look at it i have this info on my github wiki for b2g in case i either left something out or had extra info on there.

Thanks! Hopefully this will attract some dev's and some people might get interested in this os. I find this is very interesting in the sense that all the apps are literally coded in JavaScript and html5, so practically anyone could learn simple languages and make apps, I already have been learning a bit of JavaScript myself so I can understand what's going on in Gaia a bit better (Gaia is what the ui is called for those not informed). Learning JavaScript is kinda interesting because its the first object oriented language I've learned I believe. Anyways things I'm going to need a dev's help with more than likely are the camera, the Bluetooth, and the video playback issue. I have some leads with video playback but haven't had very much luck with figuring it out. Anyways I hope to see more people posting in and their thoughts plus any bugs they found/I forgot to mention. By the way I recommend trying the games out, they run quite smoothly considering I have gralloc disabled, I was surprised that games like solitaire actually had dragging and such, I'm kinda new to html5 so it actually surprised me.

upload pics please ! great work !
Thanks, BTW I did upload pics, because this is a devdb thread it has a screenshots button up at the top so I didn't think I really needed to put pics in the main post but I guess I can because they aren't exactly in your race the way it is. I'll link them into the post when I get on my PC.

Edit: ok i put linked the screenshots that were there already so they show up on the main post, if you think i put too many or they are too big or somethign please feel free to tell me so.
This is just AWESOME!! Thank you for this

exellent work. keep like this !
Thanks for the support! I have been looking into disabling ril so that annoying insert sim message will go away, I kinda made some progress on it but its kinda half and half progress, I'm twiddling around with gaia's innards, and someone mentioned there's a way to build Gaia that's meant for a tablet so I tried it, here's the upside so far about it, it took the annoying sim message away, and has a slightly different layout with only 2 pages on home screen and I think the search box was disabled. This is the downside, it took away the games collections and such, the icon for insert sim is still on the status bar and the lock screen still says no sim. Even worse than that was the fact I believe the only way I can put it into practical flashing use is to make a production build rather than a user debug build, in order for me to even test it I had to wipe data, and then run a make file that pushed the needed files via adb. Even weirder to me is I found out as it is right now I was thinking I need to edit hashcode's python scripts for building the otapackage to include /data to be auto included in the packaging process, and after seeing how a production build is made I see why it's unnecessary, a production build actually puts them on the system partition. Might still add a command line option to the scripts for if its a user debug build to do so. Sorry if this seems like confusing ramblings, I find it fun talking about technical things.

Update!
Ok, here's an update, have a major bugged fixed in this release as well as minor graphical bugs.
Update: [2014-03-12] Alpha 1.4 Pre-Release
Links:
Dev-Host: Download
Md5sum: 8799eafb470354ad0ecc717f0fb3ad88
Whats fixed in this update:
-gralloc works now (thank you mozilla devs for fixing this)
-misc gaia(the homescreen/gui) fixes.
What these fixes mean:
With gralloc functioning now, the graphics are much much less laggy, and i can also start troubleshooting the video playback issues a bit more than previously. You will now notice a nice artifacting loading logo on videos in youtube, and on games like safecracker it will be a nice big fullscreen artifact on the screen while sound is playing.
Gaia misc fixes from upstream, they are nice little things that needed fixing that now work correctly, like that little bar of bleed through from the homescreen on certain apps and games is gone, things like that. I will update my screenshot now so that actually looks nicer.
Thanks to this update some things were brought out that i now can start throwing some guesses around as to whats up with video playback and the games and such that are artifacting. It probably has to do something with a buffer, but i have said this before i need a dev that will help patch this kinda stuff, i have no clue how to myself. All i know is most of the problems i'm having with video playback issues and artifacting and such are probably caused by the fact Mozilla has their own custom framework/av folder, which in turn i believe has its own custom libstagefright, this also i think had something to do with why i couldn't get the camera's hal module to compile. So if any dev is willing to take a look at this please help me.
Finally had a good time to test this out (if you call Argumentative Writing class a good time). Flashed well, booted without a hitch, and the setup wizard or whatever it's called went smooth. I've gotta say, nice job Other than the bugs you've already addressed, my only complaint was that the music app went into a scrolling loop when in the album art view, then crashed.
@stunts513, be proud of yourself - this is quite the accomplishment I only wish I could do something as awesome as this.
Thanks, I'm thinking about trying to build it for the other devices as well sometime this week to test it out and commit any tweaks I may need to make to compile for those devices. I've been doing other things lately so I haven't been booted into Linux much this week and my debugging hit a bit of a standstill, I'll try debugging it again soon and see if I can fix anything else.

Same here, I enjoyed watching it but the YouTube no video was the killer for me, does hulu work on it by any chance even thru chrome cast
For your own custom Sig : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922304
Funny it would get bumped today. I've been upgrading to a cm 11 device tree kitkat based build for about 4 or 5 days. Been having to debug a error for the past few days that was driving me nuts and I finally got passed it. Even more surprising is the fact I didn't have to disable the camera and I think it compiled its module successfully. I just finished a build a while ago and plan on testing it tomorrow once I make a nandroid backup. My main issue is as it turns out from multiple devs telling me(hashcode and gerard-majax) I added some unneeded stuff to the manifest back in the jb builds. Apparently just because the compilation process requests it and errors out without it doesn't mean its required(this really surprised me). Long story short some llvm and clang related stuff was being compiled thanks to some librs related stuff and erroring out for some reason and it turns out I had to kill it at the source. Let's hope my build works, I'll try to post the results depending on if I go shopping for parts for my microwave or not.
Edit: oh and as to the video, I have not heard of b2g having chromecast. I don't know if they would support it or not considering its based on googles work but forked in a different direction. And no as of that last build no video was working. I think it was something with ducatti not working right so none of the video would even decode and there was some kinda buffer error with I think open on related animations so even of the decoder worked I think it would a been artifacting like the YouTube play button and such. Hopefully the cm 11 builds will work better. I still don't have a dev to help me with this so progress is kinda slow seeing as I don't know c++ I can't do too much. I'm just glad all the devs have put up with my questions up until now as I know how annoying I can get. It's not often I find tech savy people that know more than me about PC's as i come from a small town so I tend to have a million questions when I find someone smarter than me.

Dev-Host: Download
Md5sum: cf1cabaa21cd4b3767449bc7300666b0
Update info:
-updated to a kitkat build with the cm 11 device tree
Fixes:
-Fixed video playback - (actually hashcode did, i just pulled in changes from his repo and it worked)
-Camera doesn't work but the module is compiling now so camera *may* work soon, don't hold me to it.
On another note, i noticed while atleast video playback is working not all video files are openable, but i haven't tried much outside of a random file left over from a android game that it found so i don't know the extent of what can and can't be played. The file i played had audio and no video.
Oh and something important you need to do when you first boot into it, enable soft home from settings>developer options, for some reason the previous method i used involving a build.prop property didn't work this time around. Kinda annoying...
Todo:
- In the next few days i'm going to sync up my sources with hashcodes again becasue he said he's got some camera fixes he's working on that might help.
- See if the hwc will build and load on cm11 builds as it may fix the artifacting on certain games
Nice will try asap, today's too late and I just saw......imma download though
