Cricket Ignite
I just got my ZTE N9511 on Black Friday. Last night they stopped me from using PowerAmp Pro that I got from torrent downloads. Today I uninstalled it, installed Titanium Backup Pro and deleted Cricket Ignite off my phone... I am still wet behind the ears with all of this, will my phone be okay, and is there anything else I should take off my phone as far as system apps go?
@JOEP702
So far I have froze/disabled a few system apps.. Click here to see.

custom rom for zte source ?
Anyone knows about A custom rom for the zte source?
@2012crazymexican
From what I have heard, there is no fastboot for the Source... which means ... well I don't know for sure but I believe you need fastboot in order to flash a custom ROM. I am far from a Dev, and have little experience beyond simple adb commands and a few fastboot commands. There IS a way to put software on this device, though I doubt ZTE is going to give out its secrets. If this phone becomes more popular then hopefully we will get some smart devs, like Hashcode for example, who can work on this phone. Until then, I will be doing whatever I can to unlock this device as best as I can.

So I'm a dumbass
The title says it all. Apparently I either deleted the wrong thing, or something, but I just got my Source this afternoon and did the root on it, and then installed Titanium Backup.... I did a backup of all the apps, but when I try to restore, I get multiple failures. Not sure what happened and frankly don't care, (the phone still works great minus the Ignite crap by the way) but I've found factory test mode and the recovery module...
Using this method I'd like some of you rooted folks to try and do a ROM dump. Try it from Factory Test Mode AND the Recovery Mode.
To get to recovery: Either restart the device and hold Volume Up, or completely power it down and start with the volume up.
Factory Test Mode: Same thing as recovery, except you use Volume Down.
I'm gonna do a DD on this and download the full SDK, see what I can figure out, but I am so not a Dev, dudes and dudettes, so it'll be up to the ZTE lovers out there to make it happen. I'm also looking to see about Link2SD support and EXT4 support, though with all the storage, it'll be awhile before I fill mine...
Still, this is a brand new phone, pretty much, and I'm gonna love messing around with it with you folks, but I've been around dev's and fankids before: androidforums Admire and Evo 4G threads, to name two. I sincerely hope that we can all work together to pimp this darn thing instead of fighting like a bunch of kids :highfive: I'll post my DD dumps and whatnot as I get them, and try on your devices as well. The more people we have working on this the better.
@DaemeonZane
Thanks for the info! Added to OP.
Have you managed to get the driver installed for FTM?
Recovery is crap... No zip install... no backup.... but a must have regardless.
ALL THE MORE REASON WHY WE NEED SOME SMART DEVS HELPING!!
CWM or TWRP would be great! Custom Roms would be great!
Hey Gus.
.
Hey guys I too am a noob and don't know anything hardly about Modding the android system but I am totally techale and willing to try almost anything. I got this phone to learn on but I am finding out tbat there isn't much soft ware writtien for this model so I get to work with you guys on some real development instead of just flashing and recovering...
I really want to k kW if anyone has had any luck finding and flashing any costoms at all... if so could you post the link with instructions. Thanks guys

I got it to register just by having Windows Update look for dirvers. Picked a good ADB driver right off the bat.... Right now I've got root and am attempting to use an adb shell and rkdump to get a good image.... but under /dev/block I can't identify what's recovery, what's system, etc.; all I get is the following:
It's kind of a pain in my ass, because I'm not quite sure what's what, but if any of you have used ZTE devices before, you'd have a better idea of their naming conventions than I would... tell me what to dump and I've got you, just keep in mind I'm no longer stock (i.e., I've deleted a lot of the bloatware from the system)
@DaemeonZane
Excellent work! I will try the windows update idea. The driver for FTM is the only driver I couldn't find. I have ZTE_Android USB_Driver_For_Microsoft_PC and ZTE Handset USB Driver 5.2066.1.8 But neither of those provide the FTM driver. You are making good strides towards unlocking the potential for this phone. We do need someone helping who is a linux wiz or ZTE wiz.
Have you had any success with googling those listed items (like mmcblk0p1)?
#GREAT WORK! :good:
@strykerhandy
Welcome to the thread!
I'm excited to have as many ZTE Source owners working on this device as we can. Any help you can provide is appreciated. As far as any questions you might have, ... what you read here is it! Lol! This device is so new that there isn't anything else written about it outside of specs and reviews. As far as I know, this is the only thread out there ... here on xda, or anywhere for that matter.
@DaemeonZane
I'll do some research and see what I can find.

You are correct. cricketusers.com/cricket-zte-source/ has a couple basic threads discussing specs, but that's about it. AndroidForums doesn't even have a whole lot on it... So we're it.
As far as googling the partitions, and whatnot, not so much, but it is what it is. I'm currently at work (Buffalo Americas) but when I get to the house tonight I'll be able to dig up a bit more. I'm a Linux enthusiast, but my main bag is actually networking and security... lol Still working on getting that dump, but if anyone figures it out and can make it happen, post it for the world to see... I've never had an Android in my hands that wasn't rooted and customized to some degree, and I'm not giving up on this one just yet... lol
Not a bad benchmark...
I'm having an issue attaching a screenshot right now. Benchmark was 14434. I'll get a picture up later.
Also, I managed to create a gz file... might help someone.

So i have rooted and already had to fix the "cannot establish reliable data connection to server" problem.... thats how i bricked my last phone but using titanium backup and wifi its a for sure fix.... anyway so i am not well read about the basics of the platform and i dont know if this an option or not but jas anyone tried the Cwm recovery builder? I got on there and read up on it but its to.advanced for me right now... also i cant figure out why basic flashing wont work from romtoolbox pro. I have tried frlashing some. BOot animations and i did some.fonts but the animations stop half way through and screen goes black till the.phone boots. Any advice is welcomed and appreciated..
Sent from my ZTE_N9511 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I will look into the cwm builder... As for the boot animations, perhaps you need to resize them. Not all are designed for our layouts. Just a thought.
*Edit* Using ROM toolbox pro I was able to change my boot animation. So it does work.

Thank you to all who tested. Now start getting your phones ready for the final build.
Themers:
Check Post #2 for a package of app & framework files. A good majority of the apps are from FRF91 Vanilla Android build so if you have packages that already work with that build then most should work here. Please make sure all packages are compatible. Please use the framework-res.apk provided since it is unique to this ROM. It is much different than the OEM Drodi2 packages.
ROM Developers:
Feel free to use this as a base for your own ROM. Please just respect us and give Matt, Drod and myself the proper credit and a link back to the threads.
History:
Being bored one day and sick of Blur with all the extra services I started to rip the ROM apart. Finally getting it as clean as I can and being forced to have a bit of blur I began a search on how to get rid of it all. I ended up on the MotoDev website to see what I can find when I bumped into the D2 SDK. Shockingly it was a plain vanilla build of Android. I thought why not and tried to boot it up. Ii did ( see first video here[/URL] ) with lots of bugs. The screen res as all off and we had no radio or many other hardware functions. On top of that it ran like a turtle stuck in some molasses. I sent a message of my my buddy Matt4542 and our journey began. From there Drod and I hooked up and now we have this. It has been a long rough week getting this sucker to where it is now. It was fun, frustrating and we nearly killed each other a few times but all ended well since we have a great finished project.
We kind of built AOSP ROM by hand. Some may say it is not a true AOSP ROM but it is. There is no difference between this build and a true AOSP ROM besides any tweaks that the developer may add when creating a ROM from source. We had no choice to do it this way since Moto locked us out of the bootloader (for now and next project). Many of the apps are built from source. About 90% of the app folder is built from source. We added some packages from the D2 that are a bit better and required for hardware reasons. There is NO Blur left in the ROM but for a moto-res.apk file that is required by the framework.
What will this ROM do?
It will give you a true Android Vanilla experience much in the same way the Original Droid (OD) did. It is not loaded with bloatware and everything functions as it should. Facebook will sync with your contacts and you will not have all of your memory being used by wasteful stuff on top of much more. Your phone will run more smoothly and feel a lot faster.
What can you do to help?
The most important thing is to provide feedback. When reporting bugs please be clear and with detailed explanation. Do not say this does not work and leave it that. The more feedback you provide will make it easier and quicker for us to kill any bugs. You may also give us a small donation to help with our continuing development of ROM and *POSSIBLY* get this bootlader cracked. It cannot be done with one device. I have a couple of friends who have experience with low level programming of chips and with their help maybe it can get done. They are Blackberry guys and not going to buy a device just for this. This is nothing more than a promise that it will be tried. I cannot say when and IF it can be done so please keep the questions to a minimum about it. If the project takes off then I will have updates. You can donate to the project by clicking HERE.

I'll be the first to ask - do we need to do all of the wipes if we are upgrading from RC1?
is this the final build?? cause its version 1.0 and are you guys going to provide ota updates?? other than that rom looks AWESOME
Appreciate the hard work guys!
Works great! So much better than the stock D2 ROM.
Cell standby is still an issue
So far so good.
Only two minor things. There is no easy to get to end-call button, which you already know about, and it seems like there is not speech to text support. Not that I really use speech to text, but it could come in handy.
Edit: Nevermind. Might just need to enable it in settings.
Contact Ringtones still don't work
Otherwise, it's gRRRRRRRRReat!
Seems like some bad blood brewing over this ROM on the droidforums page for it. AngDroid/MotoBoy, we all greatly appreciate your work (you too Matt4542! (and anyone else who doesn't get as much time in the lime light!)). As long as you are satisfied with the outcome of the ROM we all appreciate you sharing it with us. Just ignore the lamers that expect you to jump at their every beck and call. It's the first AOSP type ROM for the Droid 2, very first of it's kind for a very locked down phone, which in and of itself is a great accomplishment. If you ever fix anything in Fission, great, if not, I'll continue to look forward to what you develop in the future.
I'm still also curious about your twitter post from the other day, talking about your new Fusion ROM series. Interested to see how that one differs from both stock and Fission.
I am getting the USB problem like I was getting in Beta II. It would connect fine when I first loaded the rom up, and then half the day would pass by and then I can't connect the phone to the computer. Kind of weird. Pretty sure that I can charge from the wall. Just not sure why the USB isn't working.

I wonder if it's something underlying with your phone that's causing that issue. You'd think if it were a common bug you'd see other users complaining about it (as this thread on droid forums is about 8 pages long at this point). Given that it's you, who wrote the tutorials for some of the early D2 stuff, I have no doubt you followed all the steps for installing the ROM. Did you happen to SBF and start stock before going to Fission? I wonder if it could have resulted from flashing over another ROM. Very strange issue though, when I get a good chance to roll my phone up to Fission 1.0 I'll see if I experience the same thing (Thursday is probably a good day to flash, too many phone calls I can't miss between then and now).

How is it an issue? If your phone is on for 10 hours and you use cell for 1 hour of course it is going to eat the greatest percentage of battery use. The issue is the time is off now and then.

We tested this on IRC and it is working for everyone who tested.
if ud like a phone apk like this hit me up with a pm and ill send it to u
Does this ROM contain the ability to link contacts?
The reason I ask is because there are a few facebook contacts of mine that do not list their numbers on their profile but I have their numbers in my phone book. And when I installed Fission RC1, Facebook will list them as a contact but will not show them with the profile and with phone numbers I have in my phone. I recall being able to have that ability to link contacts in the stock D2 rom. Is this feature part of the Blur crap?
It really wouldn't even be an issue if the Facebook contacts were not read-only. I'd just add the numbers to their contact information on the phone then... But I can't. Go Facebook.
Go to the contact u want. Hit menu>edit then hit menu>join then u can pick the facebook contact u want to link it to

http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-rooting-roms-hacks/63799-fullhdmi-official-fullhdmi-beta-discussion.html ----BETA Thread Discussion thread made by Orrebmas
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-rooting-roms-hacks/35955-evo-hdmi-out-mirroring.html---ORIGINAL THREAD
Thanks to Orrebmas over at Android Central there is a working BETA version of the FULL HDMI for EVO.
All,
It is here finally, FullHDMI "limited time" public beta is attached in this post. This version is to mass test the app and get feedback before the next step.
I will be making an announcement later today about the beta and its purpose, but for now I am attaching it and going to get some sleep. You will need the Kernel posted several pages back on this thread to enable some features, and root. I just realized that non-root is broken as of this version.
Some of the things you need to know about before tinkering with the app, pasting quickly:

Most TVs have multiple options for aspect ratio. For example, zoom, hourglass, etc. Just make sure this setting is set to fill the screen.
I am not saying that is the case for all of you, it just was for me. Once I changed the setting, it filled the screen perfectly without messing with the X Y resolutions.
And also:

1- To achieve hardware acceleration, video memory (minimal) has to be used. Some poorly coded programs that also use video memory will try to grab a hold of the entire memory block instead of the available. This will cause them to crash when you are in hardware mode reserving a small block of memory to yourself. The only application that I found to be doing this is, strangely enough, HTC's Gallery (specifically video playback mode). Gallery video playback will keep trying to acquire the whole video memory, put the phone in a tight infinite loop doing so and eventually force close (after about 40 sec).
Compatibility or software mode does not use video memory and is safe to keep on while launching Galley video playback. Compatibility mode also does not make use of the "supercharged" feature, custom res or fullscreen mode.
2- FPS: Your frames per second will not be the same as on your phone. This is because the app is designed to keep the phone as primary display and output a secondary to the HDMI port. You are also outputting, most likely, a 1280x720 pixels which is almost ~2.5 times more the normal output. So in total you are pushing 3.5 lcd size screen worth of pixels (phone lcs + hdmi). Things can be improved if we freeze the phone display, but that wont be mirroring (maybe a feature in FullHDMI 2). Expect, however, to get more FPS in 3-D games (I get upwards of 40 fps on Raging Thunder 2) than 2-D sine he 2-D engine does the mirroring.
3- Lag: Some TVs (like Insignia) use an image enhancing and noise reducing engine. This extra processing puts the TV about half a second behind the phone making games unplayable by looking at the TV only. Watching movies is fine since nobody cares if the phone is a little faster than the TV. On this Insignia TV, I had to go in and turn off two image enhancing and noise reducing features, and now my phone and TV track together. I know Sony has its own engine, I do not know if the extra processing there introduces lag. I have two other TVs with no lag issues, but then they don't use any image enhancing engines.
Again, the app should not lag in mirroring, if you experience any lag then please check your TV and share your observation with us.
4- This app was not designed to display youtube or other apps that already work over HDMI. To use such apps you should stop FullHDMI from driving the HDMI signal first.
ENJOY
iF YOU DECIDE TO THANK ME FOR POSTING THIS UP, I APPRECIATE IT BUT NOT NEEDED..I DID NOT DEVELOP THIS APP IN ANY WAY, JUST POSTED IT FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT.

IMPORTANT..YOU WILL NEED TO UNZIP THE FILE YOU DOWNLOAD THEN THE KERNEL AND APK ARE IN THERE TO INSTALL!!! You will only need to do this for the RAR file. if downloading from a phone look below
I also uploaded the APK and kernel for everyone on top of the rar file so they can just do it on there phone also. So from the phone download the apk file and the zip file. place those on root of sd card and your good to go. Just boot into recovery and install kernel.
Very cool, but what kernel?

Great post. I guess we will see how this is received now. I must tell you that the mods here tell me that do not not like the spirit in which they say this app was developed . I hope this thread does well to inform people of this type of app and its uses... I also hope those who are against this app being discussed here can refrain from posting and just wait for the dev that they like to come up with their own app that is actually out and available to be tested and used .
I have been using the app for a week or so and am very impressed to say the least . Watching movies wherever j go from my phone has been most awesome.

This i am not sure of as i only have a sense based Rom. I remember a lil while back that someone said it would work with only Sense Roms on the original Thread but dont take my word on this one. I would suggest testing it out to find out. of course make sure you backup incase anything happens.

I see....I wonder if any Netarchy kernel will do? I'm running 2.6.32.27 version 4.3.2 nosbc-havs more. This kernel for me has great battery life and speed on Myn's rom. It would be a shame to switch but this app is too tempting to ignore
Just nandroid your current setup. You need the fullhdmi kernel for this to work. i will post in a few.

to tell ya im not sure. some people said it works on some and not on others. You will just have to try the TV out to see if it works.
There has been a little conversation about this new device in the Yinlips G18 thread, but I thought it deserved it's own space.

Starfox 64 demo:
More information will be added as it becomes available.
Quick walkthrough on how to replace the stock emulators on the S7100.
Disclaimer as usual: everything here is at your OWN RISK.
I'll be using Gensoid as an example, as this emulator refused to launch for me out of the box.
Requirements:
Rooted S7100.
File explorer with root permissions.
Gensoid replacement.
1) Once your device is rooted, you'll need to grab a file explorer. The explorer I use is ES File Explorer.
2) Download Gensoid. For this example, place this on the root of your SD card. As long as you can find this file in ES Explorer, it doesn't really matter where you put it.
Instructions:
Launch ES File Explorer, press the menu button and change the following options:
Change Home Directory to /
Check Root Explorer to enabled
Check Mount File System to enabled
Back out of the settings and navigate to the following directory:
/system/app
Long press on Gnes4droid.apk and rename it to Gnes4droid.apkbak
Navigate to /system/libs/ and rename the folder Gnes4droid to Gnes4droidbak
Now power off the S7100 and power it back up again, if you do not power off installation in the next step will fail.
Launch ES File Explorer again and find the APK for Gensoid that you downloaded previously and press it. It should now offer to install the application, follow the on screen steps and you should have successfully replaced the preloaded version of Gensoid.
Any games you have should still autmoatically launch from the Game Center icons and the MD lists, but adds the advantage of having a launcher icon for the emulator itself, should you wish to customise your device with another launcher.
This should work for any preloaded emulator that you wish to replace with a previous version. Do NOT delete the other emulators just incase you want to revert.
If you have any issues, you can always undo the renaming operations above.
I ordered one of these things a few weeks ago, and finally got it in the mail, but it doesn't boot; it sits at a blank white screen. Any thoughts?

Tried booting into recovery and loading factory defaults? I read about someone who had a similar issue.
Which website did you buy it from?
If factory defaults don't work you could also try downloading f/w above and reloading it.
To get into recovery (courtesy of Jutleys via apad forum):
Press and hold the Menu button, keep the Menu button pressed and now press the Power on button. The "upgrading please wait" message will be displayed. The menu will be displayed. Use the Volume + and - buttons to navigate the menu options. From the menu you can perform the following functions:Wipe data/factory reset.Yes-delete all user data.Wipe cache partition.Wipe media storage partition.Apply SD-card update.zip.
From the menu choose "Apply SD-card update.zip" select the option using the Back button. Wait while the tablet reflashes. Ensure the battery is fully charged or the power cable is connected before starting the reflash process. After the reflash is complete. Press the Back button to reboot the tablet.
I just ordered one of these. Sounds perfect since I am delevoping games for Android, and this is a mix of everything Android it seems.
I got just about all Emulators for Android, so I hope to test how well they will work on this. Amiga, C64, almost all Segas, most Nintendo, DosBox and Playstation 1. I just worry that it might be too low quality and won't work at all.

JXD S7100 ADW Launcher & Custom icons
Just got mine a couple days ago...
First thing i did was root, install market, and got rid of that horrible launcher it comes with, replaced it with ADW, and i also made a few custom icons for games and emulators, still working on more. Heres a pic

When u say u got rid of the launcher, can u completely remove it or just use adw instead?
Reason bring is I installed go launcher but the original still resides.
Also do u know how to get rid if the Chinese market and crap? I replaced some default emulators with new versions by renaming originals in system/app folder but can't see anything fire the Chinese stuff.
I did not completely remove it but I beleive you can use titanium backup, I used it to remove all the Chinese apps and everything else I didn't need

Wouldn't be wise to remove their launcher entirely. If you use an alternative launcher though, you can set it as the default launcher which effectively does the same thing anyway.
Settings > applications > all > launcher > clear defaults on "Launch by default".
Next time you press HOME, it will ask you which app to use as your default launcher, set it to Go Launcher and it'll be the default launcher from boot.
To reverse this if you have any issues, repeat the steps above and select Go Launcher to clear defaults, instead of launcher.

JXD s7100 Bluetooth Support?
Does anyone know if this device supports Bluetooth? I read on another forum that there is a firmware upgrade for the resistive screen model that has Bluetooth in the caption. If the device does have Bluetooth, does this mean it's only in the resistive screen model? Maybe only later releases of the device received the Bluetooth capability (resistive and capacitive)? Thanks for any information.

There seems to be a few different models out there and seemingly one of them has bluetooth. I'm not aware of where this model is being sold though, as almost nobody seems to have a bluetooth enabled model.
My capacitive model doesn't have bluetooth and looking at the restive models other users have, theirs don't have it either.
Fairly sure this isn't a stock upgrade for later releases though, rather another SKU.

Thanks Blokenfeffer for the information.
One thing I find that is strange though. The following sites list that it does have Bluetooth. Sorry I could not link to the entire URL. The forum has yet to give me the privilege to do so.

Do you think that this is an error on their part? They have had this same information on their site since the launch of the device.

It's possibly an error, or they could have the bluetooth model. Mine has bluetooth sharing running in the background, but there's no bluetooth hardware in the machine that I'm aware of.
There are definitely 3 different firmware revisions on the JXD site though, including bluetooth and none bluetooth versions.

Thanks again, blokenfeffer. That answers my question to why I saw a picture on JXD's website with the Bluetooth symbol running in the notification bar. It must have just been running in the software, yet it does not have the actual hardware to support it. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if the new units coming out have Bluetooth or not.
Mine definitely does not have bluetooth. Interestingly, it thinks it has GPS, but even after spending 10 very cold minutes outside with the device pointed at the sky, I could not get a single satellite signal. So I suspect that radio is not present either.
Lots of tinkering!
I have been following this thread since its introduction and appreciate all the tips and tricks that have been very helpful. I thought I would add my findings to the thread.
I finally got current location working in the browser and on wifi.
After countless try's I have found a reliable networklocation.apk that works..
- 1 First you must be rooted
- 2 In order to get it to work google search tiadroid6.1 and its the first link that pops up.
- 3 Extract the file networklocation.apk and using (es file explorer or similiar app) and add it to your /system/apps folder
- 4 shutdown and reboot your device
Volia! enjoy!
Things I have currently done
- Rooted/Market via visionary
- Changed boot screen
- ICS Keyboard (must have)
- Removed Badiu and all the factory launcher and junk (makes this thing pretty snappy)
- Netflix works great
- Skype works but hangs at times
Problems I'm currently working
- factory camera app is really screwy I downloaded HDR app from the market and it appears to work fine so I'm hoping its software
When I load it I sit at a blank screen regardless of which camera I have selected. Sometimes I can get it to work by going to video and clicking the mms video option.
- GTA III boots and loads just fine plays the entire movie and will sometimes even let you play for a minute or two then crashes with an android process error
I *had* Bluetooth on mine untill I dared to update it with one of the firmware on JXD's website
UPDATE:
Fixed my camera problem and with chainfire 3D most games work really well on this thing. For those that have sporadic camera issues make sure that you don't have the screen locked and that the screen rotates.
I'm crossing my fingers to get gingerbread on this device so that we can use OnLive gaming.
Also I have been messing with power profiles and am seeing better battery life in the 4+ hr range.
The charger that came with it died so I'm in the process of building another one. So more to come once I can charge this thing!

Quick question about your bluetooth. Did you actually have it working? If so have you taken apart to get the BT chip info by chance to try and recover that functionality?

Well, I could turn it on & off, it seemed to be responding properly, was going to test some bluetooth gadgets after the firmware upgrade but alas...
I haven't taken the thing apart yet, I'm mailing back & forth with JXD at the moment to see if they can help, if that fails though I probably will take it apart.

Kitkat update has been released! Build number: G6-20140929-144358,2014093
kitkat G6-20140929 download: https://cloud.mail.ru/public/3670a7a4ef72/G6-20140929-1443584.4.zip
been using 4.4 for a few hours and already it seems pretty good. RAM usage is good and xposed works!
The battery, dimensions and dual speakers are what interest me most. When comparing to the Note 3, this is just 5mm taller and has an extra 300mah in the battery.
Anyone else have this phone?
Ordered a white 32gb/2gb model today, cost £200.99. Also bought a rubber case for £2.something
Delivery is 5-15 business days. hopefully i get it soon, very excited
1. No Kitkat release yet
2. Call ID is not display for incoming call
3. Not root available
Had a look at a Russian forum, and many users have reported the speakers rattling, and some guy had quite a few dead pixels on his device. I really hope mine doesn't have any dead pixels arghh.
TWRP is available, and maybe a MIUI Rom. Gonna post links later

Maybe the Jiayu G6 is delivery with root too.
I've that one
Hi,
I already have this one for over a month now and I really like it. But I hope the community gets bigger.
So there will be more tricks and tweaks. I'm just a thinker and leecher.
Wdeb
Got the device yesterday and so far ive been quite impressed.
Build quality is good, no creaking.
GPS works very well! Gets a lock with no internet in 10 seconds. Very accurate, more than suitable for regular navigation.
Speakers are VERY good, loud+clear.
Front camera 8mp is v/good, soooo much detail. Rear camera is good, focuses very fast. There is a lot of noise in low light however, and shutter speed becomes very slow.
WiFi signal is strong, better than all my prev droid devices.
Root can be enabled in settings
Bad stuff:
Stock launcher and theme are very ugly, also the app switcher is iOS style, and slow. Also note this gives the wrong RAM usage reading.
Overall, ui isn't as quick as it should be. Don't get 60fps transitions everywhere. The jiayu g3s beats the g6 there.
'Aliyun OS' atm xposed probably won't work and will cause brick.
Will comment on battery later, but screen on time will be around 5 hours.
Discovered some small bug in the camera app. Photo mode must be set to '13mp 4:3' for the video camera to record in 1080p, otherwise it will be 720p.
The gyroscope (might) be messed up, the axis are swapped, so if you move left or right on x axis, the phone thinks you are moving up or down on y axis. This is common with mtk6592 devices. I've only tried using the gyroscope in street view on google maps, so could just be a bug in that app.
I got 6h37 minutes screen on time a few days ago! Without a doubt the battery is 3500mah. Phone was on minimum brightness, wifi was on all the time and 3g was active for about 90 minutes. I was basically using snapchat all day. The battery percent is slightly inaccurate, 100 to 90 percent decreases slowly, then lasting 90% decreases in a linearly. Some other people have also had a miscalculated battery, it is something to look out for but not much of a problem, since the battery lasts so long anyway. I don't think recalibrating with an app will fix this but I will try.
The Jiayu S2 was very recently updated to kitkat. That phone has identical specs to the G6, so I think it is very likely the G6 will get updated to kitkat soon too.
Chrome browser scrolling is really laggy, stock browser performance is very good, but most the search providers are Chinese. I recommend using Bing, as that detects your language. Google is in Chinese. You can set your homepage to the correct language.
I've own also a G6 and have massive problem with it... ob better with the backup i've done befor i updated the rom to the newest version.
I’m not able to restore the user data with the build in “Android system recovery e3″, it simple says “no sd-card” (G6 has only phonememory, no sd). I've made the backup via e3 befor i flashed the new version, so i have now a clean g6, a backup from nearly 530MB (named “userdata_20140820_184248.backup”) and can´t restore it. Is there another solution to restore it (I have already tried nanodroid and TitanBackup, none can work with this backup-typ (will not show it)…
If i have a look at the phone with the root explorer, it shows me to under root\sdcard the phonememory, under root\storage sdcard0 (which is also the phonememory) and sdcard1
, which is only r/o with a size of "0". Phonememory is shown as 24,11 GB. It seems that something went wrong with the update.... Meanwhile i have restored the apps manually, but i'm not able to do a new Backup (error: no sd-card if i use the build in e3-backup solution)....
Any idea how to fix this error?
Firmware update??
I was reading the last reply, were Chris4Me mentioned a new firmware??? But where does that one come from?
I did see the one on Needrom, from Socrates. But because I can't find a back-up-method that completely backs up the phone, I haven't tried it. I want to go back to the former state. So something like ghost-images for the PC but now for the phone. Does someone have that?
I do like the G6 a lot. Sometimes it lags a bit, but most of the time it works perfect.

Here's the link. I don't think it includes flashtools program. In flashtools select 'upgrade firmware'. The phone storage is formatted, you will lose all data on the phone so remember to backup!

Might make a tutorial in weekend
Hi,
thank you... i'll download it...
Done... there are no (flash-)tools in the package...
By the way, which recovery solution are you using (cwm/twr)?
I've tried severale (for example: Carliv Touch 6044 v2.5), but none will work (i always get a "no sdcard" error), reason seems to be the virtual sdcard of the G6...
So i'm using instead of cwm/twr the titaniumbackup and nanodroid... i hope it will work, i don't will loose all my apps and data again...

Rooting G6
Hi All,
I ordered G6 and will receive it next week.
Is there a way for rooting the device?
I need the root to repair the IMEI due to custom regulations in my country.
Jiayu support answered that there is no engineerinf mode available on the original ROM.
Therefore I need the root to play with Mobile Uncle Tools.
Thx in advance
The first custom ROM for the Epic is now live! See this thread for details.
So a friend of mine got his hands on one of these, and since he asked me about flashing Gapps into the device, I was wondering if any one of you guys have been doing something just as "epic" for this children's tablet. And yes, I started this thread as a sort-of sequel/follow-up to the VTech Innotab Max thread I posted a year ago.

Much to my disappointment, LeapFrog didn't equip the tablet with a GPS module, and despite the potential privacy issues that may arise with including one, it could be legitimately used for certain applications like tracking the device or your son or daughter in case he/she gets lost. The usual backdoor leading to Developer Options is also disabled for some reason, though it can still be accessed through third-party utilities such as this. And maybe it's just my modded Epic, but beaming stuff from another device to an Epic using ShareIT appears to suffer from connection issues, i.e. the device is detected but the sender is unable to connect to it; a workaround for this would be sending a file or two from the Epic and then having the sender do the same from his/her device.
APKs from outside sources can be installed either through ADB or by downloading it on your device and installing as usual, not to mention that there's a semi-hidden feature (tucked away under the Parental Controls panel) that allows for the Amazon AppStore to be loaded. As for rooting, Kingoroot should do the trick from what I've read here, but you can manually install SuperSU on it if you prefer the more established root access app. ADB-wise, the latest debug and fastboot binaries should work on the device from what I can attest.

The above ZIPs are incremental patches used to update an existing system to a newer build; I couldn't seem to dig up a full system image, let alone a scatter file, for a bricked or bootlooping Epic to be restored back to factory condition though, but still I'm keeping this as a reference in case any one of you guys is interested in downloading them manually. Apparently "KOT49H.user.1.1.99.20150807.173011" is unique to demo units, hence why there weren't any updates available for my device when I ran the OTA utility.

Custom ROMs
Unofficial LineageOS 14.1 by mac2612, blakegriplingph and kai2000: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/rom-lineageos-14-1-leapfrog-epic-t4161311
The modifications to the way locale is set means that Bluetooth HID like keyboards can pair but cannot work since it cannot be set to be used for input (the options to change or add keyboard layouts is disabled in the Android settings screen and instead is selected from LeapFrog's own screen which divides the world into 7 regions- US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Other. When you pick Other it forces the UK keyboard and locale on you, which is ridiculous since some countries uses varying combinations of either (for example, Philippines uses US English 100%, while Malaysia uses UK English but US Keyboard). However bluetooth does work with A2DP devices.
Yeah, the CPU-Z and AnTuTu benchmark are my doing. I am the friend Blake mentioned. I should add that the device ran the Project Anarchy demo in AnTuTu somewhat well, averaging at 15fps.
MTK's spec sheet mentions that the SoC also has GPS and FM Radio, but I suspect that both are disconnected on the device since Android doesn't detect them.
The option to enable installation of packages from untrusted sources is still in the android security screen in settings tho, and you will be instructed to turn it on as part of the steps to install the Amazon AppStore.
I actually emailed LeapFrog as to whether they can release a tarball to the MTK kernel sources they used, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed but since they had a history of doing so in compliance with the GPL (c.f. the links to Didj/Leapster sources on eLinux provided by none other than LF themselves), I have high hopes for custom ROM development or at least some mods for the device.
Well, my only problem with the device is that the input method and locale selection is locked down and selected by the "Device Locale" screen, instead of allowing the much more granular selection allowed from the Android settings screen itself. I have determined that the same lockdown prevents bluetooth keyboards from pairing properly with the device. Also, several apps defaulted to downloading videos from UK servers instead (ie BabyFirst TV, Fisher-Price Puppy Player and Little People Player) and thus have what I perceive as "wrong voices".
I'm still waiting for LeapFrog's reply concerning the kernel sources, and if all goes well we'll be golden.
Good luck.
Well, drat. Leapfrog's asking me for a mailing address so they can send me the source CDs. Problem is I am wary of the postal servce here at my place, so is there anyone who's willing to get the sources?
So I bought one of these leap pad epics. Got it at toys r us. It was a return so open box. They gave it to me for $70 (they retail for $169.99+tax) because the last person who owned it left their passcode on it. I can't figure out how to get it off. Any ideas??
Hang in there. I've contacted Leapfrog via Facebook and am awaiting a reply.

Wouldn't doing the standard factory reset procedure be enough for that (as with those who ended up flinging way too many patterns on their device), or is there anything special that's needed to be done?
Okay, got a reply. Go into the parent screen to bring up the pin entry, then enter 4 1 9. Now, when your cursor is in the last textbox, hit the backspace and enter 2 7. Apparently this is a hidden backdoor that Leapfrog puts into the system for cases like these (ie improper returns).
I've tested it, entering 4 1 2 7 upfront doesn't work. It has to be 4 1 9 <backspace> 2 7.
As for doing a factory reset, well, It's a catch 22 situation- to get into the settings screen, you need to enter the password first - they actually modified the settings app. If you don't have the password, well, you're SOL unless you call Leapfrog support, who will probably give you this code anyway. If the ADB interface is up, you could probably do it from there, but I'm not sure if it is.
Hmm, now I'm wondering if there's someone who's up to doing an SP Flash Tool dump of the device.
Good news: RAMChYLD just got his hands on the source tarball, and as such he gave me a link to the ISO containing the kernel sources, ripped off the disc LeapFrog mailed to him recently:
Said link to the sources can be found on the first post, in case you guys are interested.
Actually, Blake did the bulk of the work, talking to Leapfrog and arranging the CD to be sent to me. But yeah.

Yup, pretty much. Though to tell you one thing, I was a bit worried that the sources either wouldn't arrive in time or not at all.

You can factory reset by holding down Power + Volume Up at boot.
Is any one of you guys here interested?
I will be. I'll be buying my son one this weekend.

If you could provide an SP Flash Tool dump of the stock ROM it'll be golden., along with a TWRP/Clockwork recovery image. I really wish that I could get my hands on one, but the local Toys R Us here sells it for like twice the price even though it's just some glorified MediaTek device made with children in mind.

Does that work? They even went as far as to disable the ability to screenshot with power + volume down until I installed an app to re-enable it.

+1. The Asian importers for the device are charging way more for it over here than the device sell for in the US. It's going for an insane RM1000 at Toys R Us and Hamleys here. Which imo is ridiculous given that there are vendors selling (malware-laden) Chinese tablets for less than a fifth of that.
