Battery life on SR - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I am coming from an iPhone 4 and the battery life on the skyrocket is killing me. I have turned off most all apps or services i can but i can only eek out about 4-5 hours on a charge on my phone.
Also if i charge thru my PC usb port it takes forever to charge.
I bought the extra battery case but i don't use it all the time becuase it is so bulky.
Any ideas? Could i have a bad battery? Anyone know what amazon wireless will do to rememdy this issue? i am under 30 days

Does Your Battery Charge To 100%, If Not Where Does It Stop?

ive been a nexus s user for almost two days now and i noticed that my battery level stops at 96%. is this normal being as though gingerbread is up and coming and this is the first phone to have it? also i seen a thread on here that shows you how to push your battery to 100% but i also read that the phone may overheat.....im not too sure about that. i have done 2 charging cycles by killing the battery completely and recharging. with my heavy use that i did i got 7 1/2 hrs use. is that normal or is that bad? are there any tips and tricks or will there be a hotfix launched in the near future. thank you for any comments an questions.

See my post in the Accessories forum. The only way to get a true 100% FULL charge is to charge the battery via a wall charger. Since I bought a wall charger and couple extra OEM batteries on Ebay, my battery is lasting significantly longer.

What happens when you pull the cable out? Does the battery immediately drop to 97%? Since it likely does, then it's not truly charging to 100%.

That's what everyone's does and why I pointed you to my post. Get a spare battery and a wall charger and charge your batteries to a true 100% like I do. They last WAY longer.

Why does it take so long to charge my Omnia 7?

From an almost finished battery, it takes a good 4 hours to charge this. Thats almost twice as long as it takes to charge my Nexus S. I charge both phones through my laptop.
Also, the battery life is pretty terrible. For a phone that turns off WiFi in standby, has no background apps running and black theme I would expect it to last well over 2 days. But I always have to charge it before the end of the day. Again, my Nexus S can last a good 1.5 days and that's with a crap load of stuff running.

yup even my Focus takes a long time to charge via a laptop, so I just use the wall charger. But battery life is gr8; lasts almost 2 days with moderate use and 3G and wifi turned on.
so its faster through a wall charger?

YES. Absolutely. USB, especially depending on your computer, does not actually provide very much power. USB chargers are able to handle a lot more (and consequently the device) than the average computer can give it.
If you ever are in a rush, use the wall.
^^ exactly
get a 10 watts usb charger, itl be much faster, i use the ipad charger and it charges my HD7 really fast

36.5 Hours @ %18 Battery (Slow Charge vs Fast charge)

I am running Continuum v5.6. I have gotten amazing battery life but I do not understand what I do to obtain this. Here is what I did.
So I was getting terrible battery life and decided to recalibrate my battery. After wiping the battery stats after making sure my phone was %100 charged I decided to run the battery till my phone shut itself off. I was getting terrible battery life even after the wipe and everything. In about 24 hours the phone drained itself out with moderate to light use.
I recharged the phone with another USB outlet forcing the phone to charge slowly in USB mode. I believe it charges at 400 mah instead of the usual 700 mah when using the samsung charger. I left it until it charged from 2% all the way to %100.
This was mid Saturday. It is now Monday morning and I am still running on the same charge.
I don't doubt I could have reached up to 48 hours on my Captivate! I've never even came close to 36.5 hours without needing to charge.
What do you guys think gave me such great battery life? I am speculating that when we recalibrate our batteries we should do a SLOW charge. Slow charging batteries have always been the best method in the past IMO.
Possibility. However there are MANY different factors that contribute to battery life.
I would like to see some other confirmed reports of USB charging leading to longer battery life over AC charging.
Interesting stuff though.
Slow charging is always better with batteries. But in over a year i have never used usb to charge. So cant say if it last longer or not. I am a heavy user so no time for a slow charge
seems interesting...ima try this out as soon as i find a charger that charges at a slower speed..
I agree
I am 100% confident slow charging lasts considerably longer.
I normally use the USB on my computer to charge, and I get two days of what I consider pretty heavy use out of it, maybe longer but I'm never away from power for more than 2 days. When I charge with AC it's pretty tough to even last a single day.
Other things help as well. I always have the screen at minimum brightness, I would turn it down further at night if I could. I don't run any home screen widgets that constantly update, no haptic feedback, ect.
I'll have to try this out!
Let me do all the noobs out there a favor and ask how do i slow charge? Where do i get the whatever i need, is it a cable or plug thing and is the stock samsung stuff fast charge i assume?

get one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-Battery-Charger-Samsung-Captivate-SGH-i897-AT-T-/180649905228?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2a0f92cc4c and it'll always slow charge, you'll hardly have to plug the cable in anymore.
Probably want to pick up a second battery.
Gives you a free of mind.
I've been using my captivate with 2.3.3 UCKF1, I charge it with the pc or the original charger and the battery drain very fast .. I think I will have to go back to 2.2.

i am currently on fasty 1.7, on 34 hrs 9 mins currently with 24 % left. with moderate to regular use, 40 mins on phone, 1 hr display, browsing text messages email checks etc. do i need to update to 1.8 does it have any more battery saving features? i am happy with 1.7
At 30 hours right now with 66 percent remaining. Moderate to regular use, too.
so at that rate, you're going to do 90hrs?
3 3/4 days without a charge.
Isnt this thread about fast charge and slow charge?
Are u people doing a normal charge or slow charge with those great claims?
Im on mosaic rom normal charge just over 34 hours, over 2 hours display 20min call @ 27%.

[Q] Why Sensation take very long to recharge the battery...

Hi,
I didn't know what happened.. what My Sensation now take about 6 to 7 hours to complete from 15% to 100% while before i just took 3 hours to complete the charging...
Edit: I knew the reason .. I used Nokia charger and it take more time (double) than the Original HTC charger.. i think mainly because of the charger...
possibly bad hardware, or a ****ty battery, i get full charge from 2% to 100% in about 3 hrs
I had the same problem, sometimes it goes fast, other times it just takes ages, aslo got the non responsive touch screen issue oh, and gps won't fix, it cant find more than 5 sattelites, hurray!
I'm getting this on mains charging now also.
Not sure why - has anyone tried a "power off" charge versus a "power on" charge?
I always charge my phone power off. light to moderate use I get at least a day before charging.
Maybe that's firmware dependent. Some ppl noticed the same but after updating from 1.28.xxx.x to 1.35.xxx.x battery performance, battery monitor behavio(u)r and charging time are improved as well as other bugs fixed. But it's not officially released yet.
HTH
I'm using the 1.35.401 update, and still have this problem, aswell as bad gps reception, high battery drain, and long charge time.
im rocking 1.29.531.2 stock for my fone, and no problems with the battery at all, quick charges, and good to great battery life.
as for the GPS, i think everyone is having that issue right now, the most i ever got was on a completely clear day, 7 satellites :/
my HD2 after running the canada fix thru CWM got a minimum of 12 or a clear day
lucky for me i dont use the GPS that often, if ever
EDIT: also, im using the stock charger about 3 out of 4 of my charges, the rest are from my lappy via usb
It's slow at charging. Get the wall charger from tmobile or use a Samsung galaxy s charger. The galaxy s charger will charge it way faster than the stock htc charger.

I can honestly say that it takes mine about an hour longer to charger while power off than while power is on, don't know y tho. So now I usually just let it drain to about 3% n then charge it..

If you want your battery to last longer you shouldn't let it drain more than down to 20%, due to the nature of the lithium battery

its actually a fact, most ppl who have used Li-Ion for at least the past decade know that if you want the best performance, dont let it drop below 15-20% before charging, for optimum batter life and sustainablilty.
same thing goes for if you arent going to use the device for a long time (min. 1 month) charge it to around 50%, then decomission, and the battery will "keep" very well
EDIT: because flamers love their link complaints http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries
with 1.35 chargin is much faster. really it's already available ota for unbranded, branded phone owners need to w8 for their carrier ... :\

i use to wait 3 hours(-+) for 25 to 100 pcent, how galaxy s charger is faster?

It charges faster because it charges faster. Lol
Idk why it does, but it does. It's the same for my hd2. A friend gave me the galaxy charger for a extra. I tried the charget and it just charged faster for my hd2. So when I got my sensation and saw that the stock charger was slow like the hd2, I tried the galaxy one, sure enough, it was faster too.
Thanks for your informations...
Just got 1.35.163.1
Some people says that improve the charging time.
I will report this tomorrow.
And i will test with sgs charger too!
I have a US version stock. As you know we have no updates yet and no s-off. My phone charges fast sometimes, other times it can be on the wall charger for 6+ hours and not be fully charged. I think its a software issue honestly.
Yes as said earlier recharge when it's at 20% the battery will hold much longer the batteryuniversity is my source too Also spare batteries should be kept at 50% and kept in the refrigerator when not in use.
Hmm the new update didn't do much for charge time for me though.
the charger that comes with the sensation is ~1A which is kinda slow when the phone is on, not as bad as others with only 500mA usb... you should be able to find a usb that give a higher A output and still retain the usb plug (ive seen 1.5A before cant remember where)... failing that if your ingenious you can splice through a different charger and make your own.. could achieve 2A+ but your could burn ya house down or blow your battery up in the process

N5 wired or wireless charging?

Hello all. So I will soon be purchasing a Nexus 5 and have never had wireless charging. I will like to use my N5 while it is charging so going wireless will not work in that aspect. So, will taking the N5 off and on the charging pad ruin the battery?
If taking the phone off and on the wireless charger was bad, they wouldnt have made them.

No reason why taking it off and putting it back on the charger is an issue, I do it frequently and my Nexus 5 hasn't exploded yet.
In the end it's up to you, convenience of not having to unplug when you use it or not having to pick it up with a cable hanging off it vs. slightly faster charging and a bit less heat (even though its insignificant).

Being as the battery is unremovable, I want it to last for at the least, 2 years. I have been told that plugging in and unplugging your phone can't possibly be good for the battery. But with the better technology in batteries coming out, I'm just not sure this applies anymore. Take my Nexus 4. I've had this phone since release and the battery is as good today as it was 2+ years ago. I run my battery until around 15-25% and never interrupt the charge cycle until it is 100% charged. Am I thinking in terms of too much "old fashion"?

Cycles don't matter. You can charge your phone at any percentage remaining and finish charging at whatever percentage and it'll hardly influence your battery's life. Maybe if you were to use the same phone for 10 years, but 2? Hardly.

I've never seen any proof of that. It's a rechargeable battery. It's meant to be charged over and over again. I doubt not charging it at certain percentages will do anything bad to it. I never let my phone get below 50% unless I have no choice. I've never had bad battery issues with any phone.
