alternative solution to battery calibration? - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

*this technique needs root access, and make sure you're in r/w permissions at the time you try to make/replace your copy of the file!
I know there is a thread about how to calibrate your battery, linked in my sig already, but I figured I'd try preempting needing significant calibration by doing something that's actually just as simple.
it occurred to me that one of the causes of improper calibration is backing up/restoring/flashing at various levels of battery charge. so, for those not in a rush, you can choose to always do your stuff at full charge, just after your phone stops charging.
in addition, to help ensure the closest to 100% accurate information is in your batterystats.bin:
1) charge your phone and immediately remove the phone from the charger
2) using root explore or other similar root file apps, go into /data/system/ and make a copy of the batterystats.bin file and put it on your REMOVABLE sd card and if you like, make an additional copy on your computer as backup.
* if done right, at the time you make your copy of the battery stats.bin file, it will be around 3kb. if you see 5kb-25kb, there is other information being held in the file from the time it was charging, and unplugging the charger and closing the root exploration and reopening it to the batterystats.bin file should be enough to clear it out so you only see it at 3kb in size. I have tested with a 5kb file and it doesn't see to be inaccurate. just don't use one with 25kb or it might ruin your calibration and you'll have to start over.
making this backup copy of the batterystats.bin file will also help shorten any calibration time needed when you have to restore/flash at other than 100% charge. to do this:
1) after flashing/restoring, start charging your phone to 100%
2) while your phone is charging, prepare your copy of the fully calibrated batterystats.bin on your sd card
3) as soon as your phone reaches 100% charge, make a copy of the batterystats.bin that you have on your sd card, and replace the one in /data/system/ with that copy. this will basically give you a fully calibrated battery with little to no draining/recharging.
i did this test that the time I upgraded from kph to kpq, and here are my results, with kpq, cranium 5.1, and uc kernel 5 test 6 (green obsession is my theme, but shouldn't have any effect on battery life)

the results you see here are similar to the battery test I did on cranium 3.1. at that time, I only played angry birds for about 23 minutes, and my phone lasted an extra day under otherwise similar usage compared to this test. notice my battery doesn't increase and decrease the charge without using the charger or without explanation. I simply chose to kill the battery at the end because I wanted to do more testing on other things. those currently in the process of flashing may want to try this and give feedback. hope this helps you guys with your batteries!
*for those willing to test (at your own risk), I have attached my 3.2kb copy of a fully calibrated battery just after reaching 100% charge and disconnecting the charger! this is not flashable; you must extract and insert it manually using any root exploration app.
I recommend making a backup of your personal batterystats.bin file before trying this, in case each phone is individualized. after replacing yours with this, if it's not working and you decide to switch back, unless you switch back at the same charge level/state, you'll likely have to recalibrate anyway.
*the batterystats.bin currently attached is only for GB roms, since I can't be sure how froyo, miui, or cyanogenmod use information from this file. I wll upload a miui stats later.

What is that app which shows battery graph?

That no app, it's built in. Settings -> Phone info (or however it's called in english android) -> Battery usage
You will get a little graph at the top of your screen and a list of apps, or system components with a percentage in battery drain. (= 2nd screenshot)
Tapping on the graph you will get the screen shown in the first screenshot.

you can be a tester if you like. after fully charging, make a bat.bin backup and keep it ready for when you install a custom rom or restore. just follow the steps and see if I'm the only one getting good results from it...
and thanks in advance for helping test

ahh, yes, a totally brand new phone will need a few charge/discharge cycles to calibrate the battery first
since I don't know if the batterystats.bin file that I have calibrated can be used universally on all i9003, I'm choosing to assume each one is personalized to a person's phone. someone that knows better can correct me if I'm wrong...

Plz attach yr copy of the battery bin file, mine shows about 59kb tried twice with same results!

do whatever you like until it's charged. replace the file after that.
"charging full without a break"? you mean you can't let the phone charge for 3-4 hours? as long as you're not playing a demanding game or something, there should be no problem using the phone while it's on and charging without it overheating the battery.

depends on your skill. I can't create a cwm flashable file yet, and for me, opening my sd card, select copy, navigate to data using root explore and replace is easiest
if someone wants to make it flashable, be my guest

you may have forgotten to make a backup before, but it never hurts to start now. make a backup, then you can try swapping my battstats. make sure you do it at 100% charge, just after removing the charger, and let me know if your battery is still stable and nothing else is affected. that will confirm that nothing phone specific is stored in the file, and it'll work on any phone at 100% charge for an instant coarse calibration

i am on jp_miui v9.
i recently wiped battery stats from recovery-advanced menu.
the size of batterystats.bin file in data/system is 172.26 KB.....
is it normal?? can i try replacing it with your file at 100% charge?

that 172 kb means there's a lot of excess data that's not needed. sure, go ahead and replace it at 100% and your battery should remain fairly stable.

mine is 650kb today.
i guess right time try this.
as i understand, i must replace as as its charged to100. and not before .
Sent from my GT-I9003

last night i replaced file with 3 kb file on my phone.
today its already 400kb . i guess its because battery monitor is on. i m using jp9 MIUI.

I'll edit my OP now. don't use this on miui r cm7,just stock GB roms to be sure. I know miui does things different, so until I get a stable miui version, you're stuck just wiping, sorry

[Mod] 4-in-1 Reboot Menu - Updated for 3.70 OTA ROMS

Ok guys... this is my port to the 4-in-1 Reboot Menu made by sqn- for the HTC Desire and DesireHD.
Hot Restart basically lets u guys restart the phone in less then 10 seconds instead of going through the full boot cycle.
This should work on any DeOdexed rom that has busybox installed and was made from the new android.policy.jar file that came with the 3.70 OTA update.

Please note that this is based off of the icons that are in com.htc.resources apk from the 3.70 OTA and if someone themed them a little different or using a different com.htc.resources apk file for their theme the icons might look different than the picture.
It is a relatively easy fix to make if u happen to end up in one of those situations... so let me know and ill try to help when i can.
Link to zip is attached... Have fun.
p.s.
i changed the icon for the reboot menu... so it doesnt look exactly like the pic.

a tiny tip...
next time.... instead of a nand backup... since it is only one file and nothing more.
simply use adb:
1. adb remount
2. adb pull /system/framework/android.policy.jar /where ever u wanna save it.
and flash... if anything goes wrong u can always push the file u had back to replace.
Off topic here, but where did you get your battery icon with the percentages? Can that be flashed with the new Fresh ROM (based on 3.30 leaked ROM) and can you share?

its the icons that konikub made and i redid them with numbers and a little bit of improved quality.
thats a part of the theme i have on my rom.
i will probably put up a stand-alone version of my theme soon for anyone who likes the theme but wanna stick to a different rom.
if u want only the batt icons... u need to look inside my framework-res.apk for them... and hopefully fresh uses a framework-res that has batt percent on and u can simply replace the images.
if u dont know how to do that i can be of much help cuz although its simple to do im sure u can find a how-to in the forum somewhere.
Awesome now I can get rid of Quick Boot.

i think myn already had it ported to his rom a few weeks ago if im not wrong...
but anyways... i can see why it wont work with his rom.
initially i tried to pull off his port of it from his rom... but no go.... then i realized that he was using something else cuz my whole phone started acting up... so i went to the original page of the 4-in-1 boot menu and just did it myself with the new jar file from 3.30.
of course i had to switch some icons around cuz every image has its on unique id # and from phone to phone it might change.
im not sure what happens when u say its not working though... what does happen? does anything change?
Is it supposed to wipe data when flashing this? I stupidly didn't do a nandroid before flashing and had to re-setup everything. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention when I went to wipe the cache in recovery, don't know.
Anyway, the reboot menu is working fine in Fresh 3.4, I just had to set my stuff back up.

the update script in the zip doesn't even clear cache ... it just copy's over the old android.policy.jar file thats inside /system/framework...
so i really can't see why u would need or needed to set up everything again.
Hm. I probably just fat-fingered it when I was wiping the cache, then. Weird. It works though, so thanks.

Thank you.

I tried doing a test.
I extracted the files android.policy.jar and framework-res.apk by ROM_GT I9001_UCM_GINGERBREAD_XXKPU_V2 and I simply replaced the files in my rom with rootexplorer.
I received several errors then I restarted the phone and I still found some problems, had changed the background of the theme I use, and no longer had the google account, I restored the background, and account. Now my menu is so ..
.. and everything works perfectly.
Nice one. Will test it ASAP (but 1st i build your counter and maybe (if you like it) a site)

There is absolutely not need to put the points "Recovery" and "Download" into power menu, imho.
One could always reach the Recovery mode by simply reboot with Vol+ button depressed.
And Download point is used soooo rarely, so it's not a problem to boot it with three buttons. But one incorrect movement in power menu - and you are in.

http://bbs.gfan.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=5920533
4、不要解锁刷入RE(注意必须是不要解锁状态下刷入RE)
1、刷好国际版并解锁ROOT(这一步相信大部分机油都已经做了)
2、用救砖工具刷回官方的BootLoader(或者把救砖工具里的LG官方BT文件,扩展名为bin,替换掉解BL锁工具的目录里替换,再用解锁工具去再一次解锁,实际是刷回官方的BT文件)

1, good brush International Edition and unlock the ROOT (this step to believe that most of the oil has already been done)
Saving bricks for 2, tool brush back to the official BootLoader (or BT files saving brick tools in the LG official, a bin extension, replacing BL lock tool replacing the file in the directory of the solution, then unlock the tool to unlock again, is actually a brush back into the BT official documents)
In the figure below left is saving brick omap4boot-for_optimus-v1.16 cabinet with the LG official BT file on the right third-party compatibility of BT file [All-In-One][P920] compression bag, brush back to the system to file on the left is equivalent to restore to the official BT locks

Method two:
It is now the ROOT method is to BT solutions for lock, BT but knows solution locks from affecting the underlying performance, period of time can lead to occasional phenomena such as cotton touch screen not work, BT this is because third parties caused by the compatibility of the lock, talk about my personal views and steps below:
1, International Edition has a good brush and unlock the ROOT system after RE back up one, followed by useful
2, then brush transplant version 4.04
3, in accordance with the transplanted ROOT method to ROOT the phone system
Unlock 4, do not flush RE (Note must be flush RE under is not unlocked)
5, and then step back up the 1th international system to mobile phone
What to do after the 6, we should all know it

After a whole day of toss finally successfully, will share experiences of friends, I guess there are not people, enter the subject,
1. I followed the success of this method. You can follow this post step by step http://BBS.gfan.com/forum.php?mo ... 3421&extra=page%3D1
Tools are as follows: 1, BL lock tool download solution http://pan.Baidu.com/share/link?shareid=196317&UK=1076531750
After extraction will be ICSv21e_boot this file
Remove phone batteries, insert computer USB,
Computers and cell phones has been called, computer display new hardware 4,430, update driver, which has 4,430 drive, download, unzip to 4430 usb_drv_windows.rar (4.59 MB)
(Download count: 50 yesterday 18:10 upload)!attachcredits!:G coin-1
Everyone's problem may appear here: (install 4,430 drive opens the Device Manager first, pull the battery, plug the line, staring at 4,430 occurs when, immediately right-click the 4,430, select Properties, Driven--update driven then next--from list or specified location installed then next--do not search I to themselves select I to installed of driven then next---double-click displayed so equipment--click from disk installed--click Browse--found just download of 4,430 driven file android_winusb then next--way determines, on installed finished has, 4,430 driven on loaded finished, front of yellow exclamation mark on no has, 4,430 still keeps flashing after installed, do not cares, because the yellow exclamation mark has gone. Open brush program, plug in the data cable will not Flash! ) This time you can open the ROOT software had begun to ROOT.
Driver installation is completed, open the kit, run ICSv21e_boot.bat.
Option 1: brush ICS bootloader and brush into the recovery, brushing this can be brushed directly corresponds to the ICS brush packages
2 options: brushed 21E bootloader and brush into the recovery, brush the brush can be brushed directly corresponds to the cm,2.3 card package
When we choose 1.
Appears "wait 5 seconds" immediately fitted the battery, wait a moment,
Computer displays have a piece of hardware does not drive, manually install the drivers (driving steps and 4,430 drive, I drive the same file).
When the interface displays Your P920 is ready to boot into GB again. Reboot. When
Phone manual reset.
When you have a touch-screen version of the recovery have already been brushed, unlock, and BL.
Well BL solutions after the lock, enter just flush touch-screen version of the RECOVERY, enter: reloading battery was taken out, according to 3D+ volume + power, bright screen after release, LG icon disappears, release d and the volume.
Some are copy-and-paste, easy operation, infringement of your understanding. Hope that we will be successful.

http://bbs.gfan.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=5920533
4、不要解锁刷入RE(注意必须是不要解锁状态下刷入RE)
1、刷好国际版并解锁ROOT(这一步相信大部分机油都已经做了)
2、用救砖工具刷回官方的BootLoader(或者把救砖工具里的LG官方BT文件,扩展名为bin,替换掉解BL锁工具的目录里替换,再用解锁工具去再一次解锁,实际是刷回官方的BT文件)

well, imo, why wasting time on testing this ideas, while we already have the prerooted bin. and it got TWRP too! so no need to take the risk and to translate anything here.

You don't even need a prerooted rom.
You can flash official v28b and on top of it flash 1.25a wkparks bootloader and twrp. Then in twrp you flash su and it's done.
Xbsall made a good rom but I like stock better so...

I just flashed this. ROM looks amazing Diablo. 2 things...
1- I can't seem to get the Mounts2SD to work. I can not get the button to work. It just sits on the first screen and I touch all over and I have tried flashing it 3 times and still can't get the button to work. I have not tried to re-download yet.
2- Is there a way to change the contacts page to a dark mode? It is white background and a light grey letters and is tough to see.
Other than that I am digging it so far.

I wonder why some are getting a good install and some aren't,check the MD5SUM guys and dont download from your phone, sometimes it will give you a bad download. Not saying your not,but make sure to follow the instructs.

I tried downloading 3 times now and flashing each different one. Checked m5sum and it matches. Same problem, it doesn't recognize my root. When I open Terminal it says at the top "void endpwent( ) (3) is not implemented on Android" Next line says "sh-4.1$ export PATH=/data/local/bin:$PATH" Kinda glad to see someone else has the same problem and I'm not going crazy. Love the theme on this one. Let me know if I can give you any more information.
The issue occurs on first boot before I even try to flash mounts2sd. I'm following the instructions word for word. Wiping everything 3x
I have re-flashed everything and tried the mount2sd and still says no root access. I opened up Titanium and it basically says the same thing, but it shows The space used for the system ROM, Internal, SD card and SD card(a2sd). Plus I have a good percentage of the apps I have on my last rom I used in the app drawer.

[FAQ] Q&A, Troubleshooting, Help For SebastianFM [ROM] Revelation 1.0.0 | JB |

This thread is for asking and helping others with issues that are not development related for Sebastian's latest ROM.
If you're looking for the development thread, click HERE
THE THIRD POST IN THIS THREAD DEALS WITH ANSWERING PROBLEMS. READ THROUGH THE THIRD POST BEFORE POSTING IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION!
For Sebastian's sake, please don't clutter the thread for your vanity. Go here, and the XDA community and I will help you with your problems.
Also, be sure to thank the SebastianFM and Ivicask for all their hard work!
Rule 1: Read the first post in the development thread thoroughly!
This is going to help you a ton. Most developers religiously update their first few posts with information pertaining to the ROM you just flashed. Known issues, bugs, advice, tips, suggestions -- it's all there. You're going to make your life easier, and not have to sift through a bunch of posts, by just reading that first one thoroughly!
Rule 2: After you've read the first post and still can't find anything related to your issue, search .
I know, everyone says to search and no one does. Doesn't matter, I'll be saying it again here. Automatically assume that your problem has already been solved, and use the search button just as you would Google to find an answer. Out of the hundreds of people using the ROM you have, there's almost always a chance that your issue has popped up. You're not a snowflake, so chances are your problem isn't unique.
Rule 3: Battery life discussions go in this thread.
The easiest way to piss off a developer is to complain that your battery is draining quickly immediately after a new flash. You have to troubleshoot that one on your own, and compare it to others usage to deem your battery life sucks. Let it charge and discharge a few times before you complain about battery life, or otherwise do it here. The odds are it's A) a problem with your battery or B) a problem with your usage. There are literally very few times where I've found a ROM is actually demolishing battery life rather than the user. Capiche?
Rule 4: Problems with the games you play go in this thread.
We get it, your Facebook won't sync up to your Candy Crush game and you can't beat level 101 because of it. Your Real Racing is sluggish on this ROM compared to Vipers. GTAIII is only running at 12 FPS. Whatever. That does NOT belong in the development thread, ever. Bring it here so you can see what others have to say about it.
Rule 5: The features/kernels/tweaks you want implemented will come whenever the developer decides to implement them, so don't ask.
Sweep2Wake, USBOTG, Faux/Brick/TamCore kernels, overclocking, underclocking ringtones, boot animations, wallpaper scrolling, tweaks.
ALL OF IT BELONGS HERE! Nearly none of that is development related, and as I've said before, it's all been asked already (as of page 41 on the development thread). Don't ask again. Ask here, we can help you. If enough people want it, Sebastian will notice and probably attempt to implement it. He's one guy, stop nagging him.
And finally the Golden Rule: everyone should be courteous to one another. Don't nag the developers who are helping you, don't compare his ROM to another ROM you love, don't insult anyone's intelligence, and pay it forward. We've all been n00bs before, so lend a hand to the n00bs who come after you. Also, this is an international phone, so don't insult people's grammar -- they're trying.
Please, please, please direct your questions here. If you don't have ten posts, post here. If you have legitimate issues, post here. This is meant for discussion, and it'll help you and everyone else if you keep the development thread clean!
Stolen from SkipJacks thread is some great advice:
How to best ask for help in this thread!
Give the following information when asking your questions. This will greatly help the community to find you an answer.
Are you S-On or S-Off? (If you don't know, you are S-On)
What firmware version are you using?
What is the build date of the Revelation ROM you are having trouble with?
(Go to Settings>About Phone>Read the Build Date)
What have you already tried to fix the problem? (No point in telling you to try 12 things you've already done)
And I can't stress this last one enough...BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE!!!
Please don't ask your question in this thread AND in the develoment thread. If you do you can expect to get flamed in the development thread.
Here are some of the most commonly asked questions already (just 40 pages in!)
Q: My battery is draining super fast! Screen off, 80% drain in under a few hours! Anyone else having the same problem?!
A: It's probably your battery, it's not the ROM. People gripe about battery life all the time because they have certain expectations when coming from another ROM. Four hours screen on time with CM10.1 or Viper does not equal four hours screen on time with Revelation. There are so many factors that affect battery life, and you have to do your due diligence before complaining about battery life.
Run the ROM for at least two or three days before complaining. Compare your screen on time with this ROM versus your older results. Buy a new battery. If the vast majority of people aren't upset with their battery life, your problem isn't unique: it's your battery. Get an Anker, and get more life out of your phone.
Q: My phone is being laggy something must be wrong! Sense is reloading! Help!
A: We run a two year old piece of hardware, but we're running a newer operating system. Phones have their limits, and in this case, the Sensation has less memory than almost any phone running Jelly Bean. Add in the fact that this is a Sense ROM, and you're going to have the occasional reload. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
Slight lag and reloading of Rosie does NOT mean something is wrong with the ROM, it's the reality we live in for using the latest and greatest OS on an older phone. Our Sensation is great, but it has limitations. You can't expect it to run as smoothly as an HTC One or even a One X.
Here's what SebastianFM has already had to say on the matter:
By default Launcher isn't locked in memory. When there is no free RAM available it may be sometimes closed. I think it is better than crashing app due to insufficient memory.

Q: Video playback is disastrous and glitchy! What do I do!?
A: Read the original post with a linker fix. Or just download it here:
Revelation 1.0.0 linker fix (md5: ee21b41790a2e384f304c6b63eca9137)
Everyone should flash it because it is related not only to video playback.

There. Problem solved.
Q: This is so great! But we're on 4.1.1....when are we going to get 4.2.2 with Sense 5!?!?!?zomg
A: Never say never, but probably never. This is a direct quote from Ivicask (a brilliant dev) himself regarding the issue so you never have to ask it in the dev section:
"Android 4.2.2 with sense 4+ doesn't and will never exist.Only 4.2.2 + Sense 5, and HTC ONE S wont be getting official update so we can only use HTC ONE, which will be much harder to adapt to Sensation."

Q: Help! I'm stuck on the white HTC Logo! Bootloop! Phone is bricked! I'm dying!?
A: Relax, and take this advice from MidnightDevil:
For the users who are having bootloop (on HTC logo) after flashing the rom and are S-ON, it is safe to flash boot.img from the rom.
Steps.
1 - Extract boot.img from /kernel directory on the rom to the directory where you have platform-tools (adb, fastboot, and so on, if you don't have this, download Google SDK and extract it).
2 - Open a prompt on the dir and type: fastboot flash boot boot.img
It should be quick, reboot and it's done.

A: This is directly from SebastianFM:
I'm working on this issue, sound quality on speaker isn't as good as it should be. Probably I will need adjust my audio fix a little to kernel 3.4.10.

Q: Help! My phone is rebooting! What do I do?
A: This is how you solve that issue, directly from the man who solved it Ganeshp:
for people having sense restarts and want to prevent it
here is the SUPER CHARGED services.jar file
services.jar
this jar file has Launcher locked to memory and ADJ values adjusted to suit the launcher memory lock
how to install this ?
1. First you need to mount system r/w
(if EsFile Explorer->Root Explorer->Mount R/W-> system to R/W )
2. Then copy the services.jar file to /system/framework
3. set the permissions of the file to rw-r-r then reboot
EDIT: it seems after doing step #2 the phone is bootlooping for some and unless you set proper permission to services.jar you cant boot it up. So in that case do step #3 first then step #2 (file permission is preserved over copy in EsFile Explorer. Also a dalvik cache wipe might be required to adjust the adj values )
thats all
Set permission this way
User - read and write
Group - read
Other - read
Btw you can't see the proper permission of the file when it's on sdcard (if esfile explorer)
So first copy the services.jar to /system
Then change the permissions as mentioned above
Then cut it to /system/framework

Q: There is no option for USB to PC mount! Help!
From Hinxnz
There is no option, but it works. USB storage works fine here when connected to PC but no option to unmount even on PC. There is no option in settings as this is stock and ported from a phone with no SD card slot. Phone and PC recognize SD card. Restart computer, try again.

This one is trickier but its doable. You have to place your files into a specific folder using a file manager.
1. Download ES File Explorer
2. Open the file explorer and copy the media you downloaded that you want to use as your notification tone. It should be on your SDCard. You can even search for it within ES File Explorer (Long press the media and select copy from the menu to copy it)
3. In ES, select your "Device" (not your SDCard) in the drop down menu at the top of the app.
4. Select the folder that says System
5. Select the folder that says Media
6. Select the folder that says Audio
7. Select the folder that says Notifications
8. Paste your media file that you downloaded and go back to settings. It will now be there in the notifications section. Done!

Thank you. I have another question. I have one mp3 the size is 5.77MB. when i tried to copy it too /system/media/audio/ringtones, it will be truncated to 800kb or 0 kb (depend on which file explorer i use).
i know that i don't have to copy it there to set it as ringtone, but i'm just curious why i can't copy it. maybe because of the size? the notification can be copy just fine and both are very small in size.
Thanks again.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe its because the phone has a built in ringtone trimmer to save space. If you're rooted, I would think you'd be able to copy it. But no matter what if it's in that folder it's going to be trimmed. At least that's my understanding

These are tweaks that will go in a different ROM like Viper S. SebastianFM wants to keep this as stock as possible, as in that won't come with this ROM anytime soon..

Are you S-ON for S-OFF? Locked or Unlocked?
Either way, I think you have to flash the kernel in fastboot, extract the boot.img from Revelation and place it in a folder, open cmd and navigate to the adb folder and type fastboot flash boot boot.img
I believe this may also solve your issue more easily:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917106
And actually I just thought of this: can you not boot into recovery at all?

because after installation it wasn't booting
what i am saying is when i switch off the device and then try to switch on again i have that problem
for anyhting else see in my signature
