Hey guys, I've been using this app for quite a bit, and they recently added some Note functions like pressure sensitivity. Hopefully he adds more to it, but it's been my favourite note taking app so far using the English mode. Hopefully this helps someone here who does a lot of note taking and does not like looking at disorganized scribblings.

Best Note
Freenote is the best note taking app hands down!
It resembles dan bricklin' note taker app for iphone and ipad! but it's better, though you have to mess with alot of settings to finetune it to your writing skills.
i personally prefer freehand mode, as the text doesn't disappear suddenly and if i miss something from previous word i can add without going backwords with the cursor. also, you can enter small drawings with it, not with the ease of paint mode or ideogram mode, but still...
thanks alot for the post, i wouldn't have find it without!

You don't have to enable it. It's on by default.

Bloody brilliant! Cheers

No matter what pen style or radius choose, I can't notice the pressure sensitive effect. I have a Wacom draw pad linked onto my desktop, I can find the significant difference between the results on desktop and Note.
If I remembered it correctly, seems only ICS has native support of pressure sensitive devices.

I have only noticed the pressure sensitive effect in Zen Brush app (from the Samsung App Store).
You are correct that ICS has native api support, but the Note has custom-developed (by Samsung) support.

This app's interface isn't streamlined or intuitive.

The Note screen and S-pen is pressure sensitive....it is mentioned in all the reviews. It has over 100 levels of pressure sensitivity You can see it in the S-Memo app, and it is especially obvious when you use the pencil within the app.

Try the app DSM......LOVE it.
Tell me what you think.
I found free Note needlessly complicated.

Been thinking and now wonder if there is someone able to create an application behaving similar to a Wacom-tablet? There is applications out there that could work (Omnipresence, G-remote), but it's way to laggy to use in Photoshop.
It wouldn't have to have a lot of features (I'm actually not very informed about wacom-tablets and what features they have so I dunno what could be implemented). But it would be best to keep it clean and minimize the lag and optimize for use with stylus.
Am I the only one who thinks this would be awesome or are there more out there like me?
Edit: Thought I could add a list of wanted features for this, so if you'd like any special features implemented in the app, just post it and I'll add it to the list. I should also add that I have no knowledge of developing myself so I don't know what actually can be done.
- Adjustable Sensitivity (Could be a pain using such a small screen otherwise)
- Simulate a right-click on the mouse. (Either a map a hardware-button or make a separate soft key)
- Scrollbar (?)
Will be superb. Very good idea...
Seems like we are the only ones interested in this?
Hmm nice idea.
I think this should be able with .NET Framework.
I still work on 3 other projects till the end of november and then I will give a try to this project.
If somebody wan't to help me, please PN.
Great! If you need I can help out with graphics.
If this app goes well, it would save a lot of money for a lot of people. I mean even the smallest sized Wacom cost quite a lot.
Really nice idea people . Hope it gets developed ..will be qiute a big saving

Ever tried one? Even the smallest wacom(bamboo) is all the money worth. I habe one and i wouldn't miss it.
btw. it isn't possible to rebuild the functionality of a wacom - you don't have to touch the panel. you move the pen a few millimeters across the panel and tap to click
Wacom tablets are combination resistive+capacitive tablets. You can't replicate the functionality with the simple resistive (or capacitive) panel you have available to you on the phone. The stylus is also pressure-sensitive, so pressing harder gives you thicker lines when you're drawing. You can't do that without electronics in the stylus.

I agreee. WACOM's new line of tablets - Bamboo - are actually very inexpensive (I picked up a 4x6 model for $60 at Fry's Electronics) compared to some of their higher end tablets, and for most functions you would use a tablet for, they work great (wouldn't try to do autocad or anything like that with it, but it's great for photoshop and web design - which is what I do).
Granted, for something like basic handwriting recognition, using our touchscreen phones would certainly be a good alternative. The PocketTablet software mentioned earlier seems like it would meet those needs, but of course if someone wanted to develop a free alternative, I'm sure no one would complain

Depends if you want to? If you think you can make it better, go ahead! Also, that software had to be purchased (yes I know, I'm cheap, but I'm short of money at the moment).
Also, my intentions with this wasn't to make an exact copy of a Wacoms functionality, I realize that can't be done. But something close that could work without lagg to use while saving for the real thing.
Moved as not software release or development.
Please take your time to read the rules.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=447646
I think we can make it better.
But which functions we should develop to make a better program?
First Post Updated
Check first post. I made a layout and features suggestion, I think it could work pretty well. I had to think a while to solve the problem with having to move the mouse without drawing.
So if you hold the "left-click" button, the button holds down, which means if you then move with the stylus, it gets drawn. If you don't have the left-click button held down, you only move the mouse.
Feel free to add suggestions and opinions!

[Q] App that mirrors the screen to use it as a HUD

Hi there. I need an app that mirrors the screen of my android phone to use it as a HUD in my car. I've already found an app that shows the current speed mirrored, but i would like to have it for other apps, too. So that i can use apps like Google Maps Navigation with my front window.
I googled a lot, but i sadly didn't find anything...
I'm confused.
You want this displayed ... how? where?
Please share the name/developer of the other app you've already found. Give us an idea of what you are talking about.
When you say HUD (heads up display), the only thing I can think of is some sort of projected display on your windshield
THAT WOULD EFFING AWESOME!!!!
if i understand Phexi right, he wants to put his phone under the windshield in a way that enables you to see the reflection of the screen in the windshield. works great during night trips.
usual problem - everything is mirrored.
wow that's a good idea!

Yeah, the "evrything is mirrored" can be a problem, but with the help of a homescreen widget (maybe with a mirrored text ) it should be possible to switch back very easily
With an AMOLED display it should look very good (when the rest is black), but it has to be mirrored to work.
should look like this then

If you are the first to do it, you could easily charge $1 and make a mint...I would recommend a trial version with a, say, 14 day trial period.

is this it?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.scientific.car&hl=en
Any progress on this? This would be an excellent app idea but due to my limited development knowledge someone else will have to work on it. This app will allow anyone to use their phone/tablet to project image on a semi-reflective surface and serve as a cheap full-screen navigation/media center solution.
I will be willing to purchase it as an initial customer and even make a small donation for its development.
How bout the app up there?
No, the app in the link only mirrors some text based info. We need something that can flip the display contents on the y-axis. This way when you project the screen contents the reverse text and graphics appear normal. I do not believe there's anything in the market that currently offers to do this.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
it should be easy to develop.
Or not?
Any updates on this anyone? There seems to be niche demand for this thereby warranting someone to do the great work.

Just guessing here but I would think that this would be easier accomplished baked in as a feature of a launcher or a ROM rather than an app

[APP][4.0+] HoloConvert: The New Unit Converter

This is my new Unit Conversion app released today, HoloConvert. I felt that all of the current Android unit conversion apps are ugly and many aren't powerful enough, so I decided to make one of my own with a Holo interface in mind. I recieved great support on XDA for my last app Scientific 7 Minute Workout so I wanted to see if I could get some feedback for my newest app.

What makes this unit conversion app different?
Like I said before, I feel the user interface of an app is one of the most major components of an app. Even if an app works well, you shouldn't have to sacrifice on the looks or ease-of-use of an app. I made this app to target that, while implementing many features such as:
Saving your favorite conversion units
Adding new custom units
Tip Calculator
Multiple themes
Choice in decimal precision
Built-in calculator
I just released the app, so please let me know what you think and of any suggestions!
Wow this looks great!
Just downloaded and it's a great app! :good:
Just one suggestion can you give swap icon (similar like in google translate) so if we need to change from m to cm or vice versa from cm to m, we only need one tap
Definitely will buy it! Looking forward for next update
Beautiful work dev, keep up:good:
Thanks a lot guys! And how could I have forgotten a swap icon, added to my to-do list! I am very actively updating the app at this time (I've technically pushed out 3 updates so far) so keep the suggestions coming

Now I'd only like to get an option to get the favorites on opening the app. This way I have to click two times for them, whilst the goal of favorites would be to have a shortcut!

That would be great. Also, some more currencies would be great, if you have the time (I kind of miss SEK).
Great app though! and at 0.79€, very affordable!
Scrolling through the units is extremely laggy on my phone, other buttons work with instant feedback. Somehow the list is really heavy to render.
I prefer asking google now for unit conversion but this is very nice app
Nice and handy app. One little bug, I cannot input negative numbers on the From input. E.g., when converting from Fahrenheit to Celsius.

Just downloaded.
Looks very nice but I have two remarks.
On my SGS2 4.3" display, text is HUGE.
It would be nice to be able to select between few text sizes.
Nothing fancy, simple "Small, Medium, Large" selection.
You desperately need to implement reverse conversion.
If I choose meter as first unit and insert number "1", it works for Angstrom but cannot cope with AU.
You could implement simple swipe left or right to replace currently selected units
Also, question "Are you sure you wish to exit?" is unnecessary in my opinion.
Best wishes in new year!

Well I purchased it.
Will keep it but two issues so far.
The icon is ugly (will be nice to have something graphical)
The first conversion I tried was not accurate. There are exactly 12 inches to a foot so I selected convert feet to inches, selected 3 feet and it did not convert to exactly 36 inches.
Nice
Some current, resistance, voltage, ect. units, would be great. Nice job I can help with translation to polish.
great!
 it's cool
Very nice app. I just have not been able to enter a negative number for conversion.
For instance, if I attempt to enter -40 for a F to C for temp conversion, the "-" symbol does not appear to register as having been selected for input, despite the fact that the keyboard shows it available and I have entered it.

Hi all!
I wasn't satisfied with any of the current methods of accessing all apps/contacts so I set out to create my own.
I present to you, Snype.
Snype has a unique dual-index system where switching between "snyping" apps and contacts is almost instant. It has changed the way I use my device and has done the same for many of my beta testers.
It also has a unique "side panel" mode where apps and contacts can be accessed simply by scrolling a finger up or down the edge of the display, which is always active no matter which app you are currently in. A list will appear and automatically begin scrolling to the location in the index that the finger is pointing to.
Snype does not try to replace your launcher. In fact, I designed it so that I would be able to use any launcher I like and not have to worry about the launcher's implementation of the app drawer. This means it's very easy to have a completely uncluttered, beautiful home screen and still be only a second away from accessing any app or contact you desire.
There are no ads and all functionality is available for free. The premium upgrade allows full customisation of the appearance of the lists.
Let me know how it goes for you!
I should mention that the premium upgrade is available for $0.99 for a short period of time to celebrate the launch of Snype. It will be a bit more later.

Really good app. I will give you 5 stars!
Some things to change:
- Add more languages
- if possible the alphabet lists have a title to know that one it is for apps, and the other for contacts.
- A widget and a direct access from home.

Thanks for the excellent feedback.
More languages is actually a surprisingly large challenge due to the indexes. It is something that I might look into again later, but when I was having a crack at it before there were some significant technical hurdles.
I have thought about doing something to let you know at a glance which is for apps and which is for contacts... like different colours or something. I'm not sure. Where do you think the title should go? There's not much room there.
I also looked into doing a widget. Unfortunately widgets don't support all kinds of views so making a widget with this functionality is impossible unless the launcher is built specifically for it. That's actually the main reason I implemented the side panels, because I knew the widget would not be possible.
ability to launch apps in halo would be nice. And maybe icon theme support. Very nice and useful app by the way:good:

I just released an update to fix some crashes in the initial release.
I just released an update which added animation to the side panels, adds Snype to the list of apps and fixes some bugs. I'm still trying to hunt down some bugs that occur only on some devices. Let me know if you have one of those devices please.
Okay, I think I've got all the known bugs fixed. Let me know if there's anything else wonky.
Just released an update with a new feature: favourites bar.

I agree, there are so many to choose from, it would be easy to get lost.
Here are my recommended apps. I'd post links but as a new user I'm not allowed to. Oh well.
Infinite Painter
This is the best painting/drawing app I've used so far. The ability to rotate the canvas on-the-fly while you're drawing is especially useful. The paint-blending is surprisingly realistic. It looks like painting with an actual brush. The interaction with the s-pen is perfect.
QuickPic
It's essentially a superior replacement for the default picture gallery app. A problem I had with android's photo gallery was that it included all the folders on my overfull sd-card, which made looking for pictures extremely frustrating. QuickPic lets you exclude folders (or even your entire sd-card). Also it's free and ADFREE.
MX Player
A versatile video player. It can display subtitles.
AnyMemo
If you're looking for a flash-card app, you can't go wrong here.

AnyMemo

I uss as well the Quick Pic app. Love that one, so much better than stock.
I tried MX Player, seemed descent enough, but I prefer Real Player.

Infinite Painter is the only other drawing app I have kept other than CloverPaint. I have tried many. sketchbook pro, layerpaint, art flow, photoshop touch, fresco paint and probably others i cant recall.
I find infinite painter is the closest to replicating real media, but CloverPaint has more functionality than any other android art programme and is starting to approach desktop aplications type levels with the (admitidly expensive) extension add on

CloverPaint, huh. I haven't even heard of that one. I'll check it out. Thanks.
It's not the most intuitive. But once you have figured it out it makes sense.

I wasn't too big on QuickPic, but I really like F-Stop. Never been a fan of the stock gallery. Actually my favorite replacement gallery was installed when I installed a Lenovo Camera apk on my Note 3, called SEEit gallery, but never bothered to test it on my Note 8.

I wish I could draw, then I would use one of these. However, I seem to have no drawing skills.

I'm in the same boat. Never had much artistic talent. Still doesn't prevent me from playing around with these fancy drawing apps regardless.
Here's my new wallpaper I managed to make in Infinite Painter in about five minutes.
Looks pretty good on my purrty screen!
I'm thinking an Impressionist style painting would be a less challenging project for someone who is less "artistically endowed". I'll be testing out my theory soon.
