LTE in Orlando, FL - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Seems like they flipped the "testing" switch down here in Orlando, FL. With only 2 bars I'm getting great speeds.

Will be in orlando end this week. Will be interested in what speeds i get. Orange lake area.

I saw the 4G LTE symbol this morning when I was walking the dogs. Didn't think much of it because I didn't believe it. Now that someone else sees it, I feel a little better. I don't have it now that I am closer to Orlando though in Altamonte. Weird.. up and down maybe?

Yep, same here. Mine started showing LTE last night around 9pm. Has stayed on LTE since then... so far (I'm in Altamonte Springs as well).

I'm def not getting the speeds I was looking for from the new LTE, that's for sure. Getting around 8 down and 5 up. From what AT&T said, there are only a small amount of towers that are switched on in our area and over the next few weeks, that number will be increased greatly. I do live about 30 miles outside of Orlando, but fall in the dark blue by a good margin. I guess it's just a waiting game now that we're live though

You will have great speeds, I am just down the road and on my HTC Vivid averaging 24 down and 14 up.

Today.. speed of 50 down..12 up see.

Everyone should install the Sensorly app so that we can map the AT&T LTE areas. Just turn it on when you are drving around. I mapped my drive to work from Winter Springs in to Orlando via 417 to 408. I also got great speeds at UCF last night for Light up Orlando (28 down/20 up).

Phone reception

How is your phone reception?
Mine sometimes sucks in areas where the Tilt worked flawless.
Could it be the phone or radio?
Tried stock ATT .32 and Blackstone .14. I may consider swapping it (oh well back to stock SPL and ROM, but would like to hear other opinions first.

try .28 it´s the best I had! It also makes the GPS better/ less lag!
I do not have major lag or lock issues with the GPS but downloading what's in your sig while I type.

Great, let us know how it goes!
i think compared to the tilt the reception on the fuze IS HORRIBLE
eboy, I assume you are in the greater LA area 818 area code (looking at your location). I went last week to Palms Springs and had full blast 3G and good call quality but LA ... sucks

I've had the opposite experience, reception on my Fuze is actually a little better than my Tilt, and I have gotten signal in a few areas up here my Tilt didn't. This is a very rural area, so that says something about it.

@JStar...
Tell me more. You flashed back to stock SPL and wasted 10 min. to put ATT crap on it (upps I meant wonderful customized ATT ROM), went to the store and they gave you a new one?

Sometimes but not recently especially if you have to call somebody 3 times moving around like a rooster for the hen to be lucky to catch a good signal.
The Tilt had 2 to 3 bars "H" at home, with the Fuze I'm happy IF I get H which dropped immediately when I start a browser not even thinking about a download.
@ that guy over there
pretty much..i reflashed the original ROM packed everything back in the box and drove my ass to the mall after work.
the rep spent more time looking for the items in the box..then actually noticing the fact that there was a HUGE ding in the top right on the metal or the scratch that ran right down the middle of the screen.
she asked whats wrong with it..i looked her square in the face and said, i keep dropping calls. ( ive had cingular/at&t for about 6 yrs and i can count on one hand how many calls ive dropped. )
and that was it..quick and easy 20 mins tops. i wound up getting the body glove-like case while i was there for $20 bucks ( instore discount for the holidays ) i felt obligated for what i had done, and thats it.
The End.
Late,

im out in woodland hills in the san fernando valley and my phone gets service but as soon as i touch it or pick it up it looses service right away....its really annoying
Same here eboy
BTW I'm just over the hill, work in Chats home in SIM/MPK (so we are quote on quote neighbors - LOL).
I'm in the inland empire and my signal strength is flaky at home, but on the road it's good.. here at home it can drop down to edge near the middle of my house.. but if i lock it to WCDMA it'll still hold onto a signal so it doesn't completely lose it, just passes the threshhold to jump over to gsm..
My Sierra Wireless 881u gets comparable signal levels in the same areas. I seem to remember the tilt actually being slightly worse, but it's been a while since I had it. My GSM service is always better (850 vs. 1900)
Maybe at some point they'll swap the frequency assignments it'll be better
haha yea tyguy hopefully there will be some new STRONGER radio roms or im going to have to sell the fuze and go back to my tilt,
in my area tho i feel that the xperia x1 radio rom is the strongest...for now

[Q] Anyone else have crappy airport data on the Cappy?

Hey all,
Just want to check to see if anyone else has crappy data coverage and rates in airports around the nation. In many airports, data becomes unusable due to timing out, etc.
I only really have had decent service at 2 airports - Denver and Salt Lake. It sucks at Baltimore (home airport), Washington/Dulles, LA, Chicago/O'Hare, and Houston/Bush. Been hit or miss in Las Vegas.
Voice calls and text work fine. Data just really sucks and it's annoying.
I'm curious to see if this is just AT&T being crap in those locations as their network is too heavily used, or whether it's just the Captivate.
I'm using DG's latest Cognition Rom, but it's happened with earlier versions of Captivate and Perception.
Thanks,
Super
I wish I travelled enough to actually offer an opinion. But I've noticed a pretty fair lack of free wifi at most airports I've been in. Pretty appalling actually. But in the ones I've been laid over: ATL, Charlotte, Memphis, Houston..the 3G seems to be no problem.
Salt Lake has free wifi airport wide - great if you're flying on Delta. Most airports seem to be stuck with Boingo or T-Mobile.
In Houston, it seemed to bounce between 3G, Edge, and GPRS, and the bouncing was fairly constant. It did it the times I was there the last couple months, so unfortunately, I can't say it's a one off. Just curious - what modem and ROM are you using?
LAX has mediocre service at most of the terminals. The best reception I got while doing work there was in the international terminal, and then only on the departure levels. You're mostly f'd on the arrival levels with some places that offer service. Was like that on my Aria too, just ATT being ATT imo.
DFW is pretty good
Yeah, I'm often wonder if it's AT&T being AT&T. It's fine for the most part, but it's really irritating to see it bouncing between H->3G->E and sometimes G and back just to try to maintain a data connection. It's gotten to the point where's it's almost unusable at most airports. Irritating for what was once AT&T's flagship Droid device.
I'm debating whether to hang on until AT&T goes to LTE or try switching to Verizon again. /sigh

[Q] What would make the infuse get worse reception than iphone 4?

We were on vacation last week in the boonies in lassen county california at eagle lake. While all ATT reception is very spotty in places, there were numerous occasions where our iphone 4 got 3g and a bar when my infuse got nothing at all.
Any idea why? Could this be a software issue?
you probably had your fingers wrapped around the metal band of the iphone4...thus better reception.
ok, just goofing but hey, there might be some truth to this .

Anyone in the Toms River - Manahawkin NJ area???

I'm curious what your reception is like on the GS3? I'm very solid 4G on the majority of the main roads, Rt9, Rt.37, Rt.72 (at least from the Pkwy to LBI), I hit 55mbps down from speedtest.net app using one of the NYC test sites. However, as soon as I move a few blocks off the main roads my my bars go from full to half and then inside I barely pull down a bar or two. My friends with At&t don't have this issue, I go to place in Barnegat about 4 miles off the parkway west of the parkway on Bay Ave. I barely get no data and barely a phone signal at all, if I go inside I get the NO symbol. My friend with At&t gets full bars, even down in his basement inside a finished office room. WTF? I wish I could switch but I have unlimited data and even though at best I only get 3mbps with 1-2bar 4G I still use over 20GB of data a month so I can't. Anyway, is there anyone else from the area with similar experiences? I almost feel as if the reception is getting worse around here.

At Mariners Marina (on the bay in Barnegat) I get four bars (Verizon, GS3). On the bay, more or less near the shore, two or three bars. Middle of the bay two bars and sometimes just 3G. On LBI three or four bars most places.

Cellular strength and throughput

We know how much you like to stream, ahem, "videos", and so cellular data is mega-important. Rate this thread to express how you think the OnePlus 6T's LTE performs. A higher rating indicates that it's fantastic: throughput is excellent and signal strength is top-notch.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add.
Ran a speed test this morning and hit 151Mbps dl and 31.5Mbps ul. (On TMo) I don't even know what to do with that.
I ran one this morning, got 192 dl and 47.7 ul on T-Mobile. Left att last week and am loving the coverage and speed so far! Also, it's almost half the price of att, and that was with my 28% discount from my employer for att!

I'm getting around 40 mbps Dl at home, but 135 mbps in the city (Memphis) . That's better than my Pixel 3 XL got. It was more around 30-35 at home. I never really tested it in the city.
I live in the UK and use Vodafone, Im getting full service, my XS Max has 3 bars. The speed on the 6t is 62 mbps DL and 17 UP. On O2, service is the same, with a speed of 22 DL and 20 UP.

Hopefully it was a one time thing
How are speeds on Verizon.
In India, on Vodafone-Idea connection. If it switches from 4G to 2G (Edge) due to poor signal strength, it doesn't recover to 4G in area of higher signal strength. It remains on Edge. I had to enter the testing menu (*#*#4366#*#*) and then select preferred network as LTE Only. Then it switched to full strength 4G.
Verizon Speeds are very nice so far
Overall internet speed is satisfying but the antenna in OnePlus 6T is weak I think. At work my friend sitting next me has an Iphone 7 Plus and he gets the signal and I dont. We are both on T-Mobile and both phones support all the T-Mobile bands. The only way for me to get signal at work is to use wifi calling option. According to OnePlus: Even if a device supports some or all of the required frequencies for this carrier, it will not be able to connect unless the device is approved for this network. So that means my OnePlus 6T supports all the bands but T-Mobile dont have them enabled for my phone? I purchased mine directly from OnePlus

This is certainly something that I would like to know more about. As while I am at work my LG G5 does not have signal, while my IPhone work phone does have signal. Also, while driving home my LG G5 drops calls, while my work IPhone does not drop calls. Both phones are through Verizon.
I really want a phone that gets a strong signal/reception. I am concerned that I will have the same problem with the 6T as I have with my current LG, compared to my work IPhone.
As far as speed/throughput on Verizon, the OP6t blows my Axon 7 out of the water. at my house, in an area where i was lucky to have 200kb/s on my back porch, i get substantially better speeds and connections. two factors are at play. One- on Verizon, the OP6t is used as a 'cdma-less" device which means the phone/radio only is focusing on LTE signal instead of tying to switch from 3g to LTE and back, etc. Two: glass back. People list this as a qualm with the device bc of no wireless charging being present, but its for radio transmission/reception, not Qi wireless. glass is so much better than metal in this regard.
I now get service everywhere i did with Axon 7, but also in places where the Axon had spotty connections at best, the One Plus 6t gets respectable connections/speed. Case and point, i used to miss calls from work when i had been on call (medical) and with OP6T in the same location/times/etc i get flawless coverage. The speed is not brag worthy at my house, but blows that 200kb/s crap out of the water. a side note, i have the slowest/cheapest single line unlimited plan Vzw offers, so YMMV if you have a premium data plan. this phone has reminded me why i live verizon coverage and speeds. I had Tmobile for a couple of months and where i live in Upstate SC, Verizon is unbeatable for reliability as i am all over the upstate for my work and never hit a dead area until i crest the Appalachians. then its topography and physics, not the phone or network.
could not be happier.

If a Pixel 3 gets say 230 Mbps download speed from my local Verizon cell tower do you think the 6t will match that.

I think it was surpassed that pixel...I could be wrong but one plus is always been at the top of the game when it came to uploads downloads and just all-around quickness thay are amazing phones for the price..,. And I'm a fan of the Google phones, but I think the OnePlus it smoke it's boots....... This is one way to look at it, look at one plus on eBay used. You could sell it a week after and you're not going to lose Harley anything for money..look at the phones that are a year old how much they still are they keep their value and are great phones... And this is just my honest opinion. And I played with a lot of flagships
One thing I've noticed with the device is the rf performance shows poorly in the signal department compared to other devices. However, a big difference is not just the numbers, say -117dBm vs -110 dBm on my s8+ but how the device performs at those numbers.
As an example.
My s8+barely gets service around -115dBm but my one plus at -120dBm will still work, all be it a bit slowly.
This is the first device I've noticed working at levels like that.
