[Q] background picture - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there any program out there or registry tweak or xap or anything that would let you change the background picture, so instead of it being plain black you can make it a picture. i know you can change the color but can you make it a picture?

No, you can only change the icons with a background picture which looks cool but creates tiles that are not live so your notifications and stuff like that won't work. I know it sucks ass.

I'm going to assume here, so don't get angry if I'm wrong. It sounds like you are using the "use background" feature in the system/today settings of your phone. If you open the picture you want for your background using resco photo viewer, you can then add it as a background and change the transparency of it to 0%. This will allow you to have the picture you want as a background with the true colors. I don't know if the i780 comes with a picture viewer but usually the default program on the WMD comes with one and it will do the same thing. Open it up and select use as background and change the transparency.
Just my two cents and I hope this helps.

Today background colour

Hi.
I don't think this is an easy one, but I'll ask anyway.
When you use "Pictures & Videos" to select an image to use as your Today background, you are given the option of "Transparency Level". I just wondered if there's a way to select what colour is 'behind' the image when you do this. At the moment, it's white (or close enough), so the image gets lighter with more transparency. I would like it black, so that the image gets darker with more transparency. Realistically, you should be able to assign any colour, so you can almost colourize an image by altering its transparency.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks.

It is not a " white colored " background. It is a " lack of color " background, no image.
You cannot overlap two today background images.

I don't want to "overlap" two today background images. If you read the question, you'll see that I've explained the background colour is white, which it is.
Set the background image to 100% transparent and you'll see white. A background with a "lack of colour" would actually be black (see transparency, 0 value colour etc. for both windows & web development.)
Something, somewhere, defines that white is used as the background colour (it may actually be an overlay for the image, with inverse transparency, as opposed to a transparent image over a solid colour.) This may be a registry entry, but it's just as likely hard-coded into the OS. Either way, that is my question.
Thanks for trying to help.

[Q] Ongoing event, Dropdown text color problems

I've installed/customized a theme exactly as I want with Black status bar, and black pulldown background with white text. I properly Deodexed and used the compatible services.jar, however, the following events still show up with black text in the dropdown list:
-In-Call timer status
-Download Progress
-Any item that is an event in progress
I've tried 4 different services.jar and all of them had the same problem, I tried editing the status bar XML files, only to have the phone refuse to load.
I notice 90% of themes leave the dropdown tabs gray, and I assume this is the reason, but does anyone have the files necessary to make all text in the dropdown white?
If you want to attach your framework-res.apk I can give this a go. I'm pretty sure this is in the /res/layout/status_bar_latest_notification.xml file or something titled similiarly.
Anyways.... I can give you some help if wanted...
I've attached my framework-res.apk, let me know what you can do. Thank You!
No problem. I will give this a go after work.

In looking at your framework...is this the current framework that you thought SHOULD have the white text? Or a unmodified framework. In looking at it...it looks like the text should be white... At least from what theming I have done... You have white (ffffff) set in the correct places for the dropdown notification bar in /res/layout/status_bar_latest_event_content.
What ROM/theme are you using? Also are you on the 2.3.34 update? i'm still on 2.3.15... So I don't want to throw a framework on my phone that may cause issues =?
If you can give me some more info... I was digging through it tonight.
Thanks
I am using the 2.3.340 firmware, standard rom but rooted and deodexed.
I used that exact framework with 2.3.15 with the same issue. My theme is nearly perfect except for that, so it's kind of annoying.
Hm... I'll keep looking over it. So this current framework SHOULD have white text but didn't?
Try also looking at the styles.xml and colors.xml in the /res/layout folder. I.m winning if things need to match up and something in one of those files is overwriting your white color

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the services.jar hold the information to change the colors in the drop down events?

I'm pretty sure it just controls color for the clock, ticker, and the "titles" for the sections in the drop-down such as "latest" or "ongoing". It doesn't actually change the text color of notifications in the drop down.
Can u help me too
I had this issue with derezzed too, a lot of ongoing event text colors are controlled by each individual application (something I saw with dropbox and facebook uploads) so the options are to either customize each application as you get it, ignore the unreadable text, or simply change the .png to a different color that provides a similar feel while being able to read black text... or another artsy thing would be to use rounded corners to make each notification look like an individual bubble instead of a continuous pane
edit:
totally didnt see how old this post was... oops

[Q] Accents and Color Customization

I have been recently messing around with the color accents on my phone. So far I have managed to make a nice Black, Red, Silver theme. However I am stuck with one key I cannot seem to find.
I have successfully managed to change almost all the text to red using these keys:
HKLM\ControlPanel\themes\1\
ProgressBarBackground
TextNeutralColor80
TextNeutralColor75
TextNeutralColor60
TextNeutralColor30
TextNeutralColor20
TextNeutralColor
ContrastColor
However I cannot seem to find the White text that displays on Tiles nor can I find the color that represents the actualy TILE in the call log or textmessaging. I know they are two separate registry settings because using an OLD advanced config I can easily change the tile color to say Dark Blue however the actual text color in the call log and text message area will still be the normal blue. Which is because the old one did not know where the other keys were. So does anyone know of the entire full list of Registry Keys for editing text colors?
Would be cool to see screen shots of your customizations

Have you looked into the XAML files in \windows. There's a thread where someone mentioned these files are related to the themes/accents. The first 2 digits refer to the theme 00 & 01. The second 2 digits refers to the accent color. They somehow work with the registry values.
For more info, see this post.
Ok excellent. I will poke around in that particular file and see what changes what.
Being on an HTC I can easily overwrite in the windows directory so this should not be a problem.
As to a screen shot I will take a look at the new build of WDM and see if I can screenshot it.

Yes, WPDM lets you take screenshots. You must have the multitasking/dehydrate hack enabled though so it'll stay connected with TouchXperience running in the background when you change screens.
Unfortunately the values for what I am looking for is not in those XAML files. Apparently editing those only changes how apps read the accent colors and does not actually change the colors I am looking for.
The only colors I have left to change is one single value somewhere but I have done searches of the registry and through those Xaml files and they seem to not be there. :-/ It looks great right now, but would blend completely if I could just fix these last few.
I attached a few screens. You can see exactly where I still have a silver/grey text even though it should be red.

If I'm not mistaken some of the fonts are semi transparent, white with the black bg showing through. The first 2 digits are the alpha transparency value. I believe FF is solid where 00 is fully transparent. Another thought, is they look to be the same color of the button icon bar. Either way, looks nice.
