I was using 2G and I got speed of around 150kbps. I switched to3G and speed came down to ~30kbps. I am however, able to make 3G video calls to friends without any issue. Is it some service that is blocking high speed or what??? When connected to 3G I do get the H symbol on the data connectivity logo on top right of the screen and with 2G I see the E symbol. Please help. My service provider is unable to help. I am with Airtel in Hyderabad, India on a post paid connection with 200 Rs. 500MB monthly rental 3G plan.
dude you are not alone....i had the same problem...go to the airtel office and ask for a sim replacement...you will get the normal speeds then....its actually speed capping...changing sim fixes it somehow....worked for me.

Because my touch pro was bought from three Australia it had been modified to only have wcdma and auto in the band selection in the phone settings. Three do not like customers using telstra for roaming, and for most it is probably a good idea to avoid roaming charges on data.
I however like to force my phone to stay on gsm while I am at work because the 3g signal is so weak. All the seeking and switching bands in a low signal environment drains my battery too fast.
After looking around the Raphael thread I saw no mention of this so here is a solution. A while ago user SecureGSM gave us access to a cab he had made for enableing the band tab on other phones. It turns out that his cab also puts the correct values back to allow the selection of gsm only. I attach a copy of it here, it works for me with no bad side effects.
i have installed this : "Nadavi_HTC_Diamond_-_NEW_CommManager.cab"
and simply changed from 3 to GSM under COMM MANAGER..
is your one any better?
Hi,
i am a three user here as well and might have the same problem as you guys,
but as i was wondering, if by forcing the phone to use a GSM network, what if we need to use the data allowance? will we be charged?
as i am on an essential pack where i get 100mb of data usage for 8bucks paid per month, however that will only be deducted off my 100mb allowance when i am in a 3g zone.
Any other good app to stop data connection when not in 3g zone? coz i really dont wanna be charged a hell lot when accidentally using roaming data fees.
Hi guys are we able to select the WCDMA (3G) 900mhz band with any of these apps?
The device has the radio for this but because the 3 network doesnt support this frequency its absent as an option so if i wanted to use it on the Optus or Vodafone 3G 900 i cant as it currently stands.
The silly thing about it is they have the 850 band in the tab but it wont operate on the nextg network as that band is absent from the radio.
Thanks

No, if you are roaming you're subject to those exorbitant roaming data charges, which aren't included in any packs or caps. In terms of data connections, you can just go to the TouchFlo settings tab, select communications and turn off data...
I am taking a trip to India soon for about 4 weeks and will be needing a prepaid SIM for data/voice use.
What carrier has the best prepaid 3G data, and also what frequency? I will be travelling mainly around Mumbai and rest of Maharashtra state but also New Delhi and surrounding area.
Is the mobile networks good enough to do Skype calling over 3G? I mainly plan to use Skype (to call overseas) and also to check email and possibly tether to my netbook so will need at least 500MB data over that period.
Please move if this is not the correct forum.
Airtel/Reliance
Airtel is very good, you can try Reliance too. Voda is also an option.
So I know all the issues with older 2g sims affecting speeds, I called tmobile, and they said that I was in fact registered with a 2g sim, so I had them activate the sim that came in the box, but I have no improvement in speed. I'm still getting nowhere above 2mbps, most of the time around 1. I know I have a 4g data plan, they added that when I got the phone for immediate activation, not next billing cycle. Even in areas where my old mytouch 3G slide got 4 mbps on the 3G HSPA network, I can't get much above 2 on the HSPA+ network. What gives? If the new 4g sim and data plan aren't working, what's the issue here? Anyone else having issues?
Are you sure that you're connected to HSPA+? And, even if you are connected with good reception to a HSPA+ tower, that doesn't mean that the tower has good bandwidth backhaul. If its a low traffic tower, T-Mobile might not want to pay for a large amount of bandwidth for it.

I suppose I can't be positive, but the icon says 4G. Although I've never seen a 3G icon, only G, 2G, and 4G, meaning they probably just replaced the 3G icon with the 4G icon since the phone can't technically display a different icon for HSPA and HSPA+, can it? I've never seen a 3G icon so I might just be connected to 3G. But even in populous areas, like downtown, at night, I top out at 4, MAYBE 5 mbps. I've heard people getting 4 or 5 on a bad day, 7-8 average and 10-12 if they're lucky. I'm wondering where that's at, maybe it's a flaw in the stock rom and an AOSP or other custom rom would be better. I seem to remember having bad speeds on sense on my Slide too.
During data transfer, I went to the about phone>network menu, and mobile network type reads HSDPA and then reverts to UMTS after a period of inactivity. It does not specify HSDPA+ though, it just says HSDPA. I understand that the 3g and 4g networks on tmobile are technically one and the same, HSDPA+ is just an advancement of the 3G technology, but I'm wondering if something just isn't clicking and the phone isn't taking advantage of HSDPA+. I checked the coverage map, and the entire region I live in, minus a few rural areas, are supposed to be covered by 4G data.
Hello, this sounds interesting to me. In fact, I do not have an active 3G data plan or 4G and I am currently using 2G. However, when I set the airplane mode off and the phone starts to pick up 2G signal from cell towers, it also pick up the 3G signal too. In fact, I can see on the signal strength bar a 3G or H+ icon that are constantly changing with some up and down arrow signs that indicate that my phone might be downloading and uploading data. Can anyone explains this phenomenon? For sure, I can not access to the Internet without Wifi.

go to settings-mobile networks and there will be option for mode
if the mode selected if gsm/wcdma - then ur phone will pick up 3g signal if it's available in the area irrespective of ur plan..this means ur carrier has activated 3g services..u can deactivate by selecting mode: gsm only!(2g mode)
wcdma mode is 3g only!
hope this is helped!
If you truly can't have 3g on your plan, phones will communicate with towers due to the requirements to have a phone be able to call 911 even if it is not activated at all.

this has happened to me before as well
Maybe it's just scanning the available networks or something? Do you have data connection disabled at your device?
What is this thing about a 3G data plan?
A data plan is a data plan. Your speed depends on your phone hardware and what your provider had installed in your area...
At least that's how it works here in Norway, they can and do limit our download speeds after a certain amount of data is transferred as I assume they do elsewhere, but even when I pass that threshold my phone reports using 3G...

the situation is not same everywhere...
like in India and more countries, 2g and 3g services have different rates and are users can opt whether they want a 3g plan or 2g plan....although speed is more in 3g!
I have an LG Nitro HD, and I'm loving it, but I'm still on my prepaid Go-Phone plan from AT&T that I got 4 years and 3 phones ago. I want to upgrade to the cheapest plan I can with mobile data (so I can use my fancy-pants GPS apps,) which turns out to be T-Mobile's $2/day plan, because you only pay on days you use the phone, and I'm being a chatterbox if I make more than a call per week.
The road bump that's keeping me from switching right now is that the 2/day plan only offers the 2G network, and even if I go with the $3/day plan that includes 4G unlimited data, my local area (and in fact most of my home state) is only covered by 2G or a service partner according to their coverage map. I don't know if that means 2G speeds, or if it's literally a 2G network, but either way, it makes me nervous to buy.
Anyway, my big question is if I can use GPS on this 2G network. My Nitro has all the bells and whistles, so it can deal with GPS and data up to 4G speeds, but can I actually use it with the network available to me?
