Test:
Set a password or pattern for you lock screen.
While locked place on dock
Hit power button on and off and it auto unlocks
Not good when you have snoopy girls in bed....
Has anyone else had this issue? If so is there a fix?

I just tried. Not experiencing the same problem. Mine still asks for pin to unlock. Running stock with Gingerbread update.
I've seen it, but it's really random. Works right sometimes, doesn't other. Usually, when the bypass happens, if I hit home from an app, it will go back to the lockscreen.
Just tried it on stock with ota. It does it too. When in dock hit the power button on and off. Then hit back button and auto unlock. Kind of annoying.

Remedy for this situation - find less snoopy girls.
On a serious note, I can confirm this too on Humble 5.0.

My experience has always been the first time you unlock it while docked, it stays unlocked the whole time. Anytime you use the power button after that doesn't lock it.
It's worked this way since launch. FWIW, this isn't how the Moto Droid behaved and I wasn't used to the Charge's behavior at first (less secure).

That's true, but that's not even what this is talking about. Sometimes (about 1 in 5 for me), it won't even ask you to unlock when you dock it. It will just go straight to the dock app. A lot of times I'll see the unlock screen flash and then be replaced by the dock app running on top of it. Sometimes after that, you will actually get the lock screen if you hit the home button again, but sometimes you won't. If you don't hit the home button at all, you can use the launcher function in the dock to get to the home screen without having to go through the lock screen.
You know what? I'm running the AOSP clock, which has the AOSP dock app. I totally forgot that the Charge ships with a different one. Regardless, I never liked the way the dock app functioned on the Charge. That was my bad.
Even though the dock app automatically displays, the lock screen will only appear the first time you try to do anything else on the phone. Hitting the power button never re-locked it - whether it was AOSP or Samsung. I personally prefer the CM variant of the clock apk.
Easy fix, don't use the dock

Whatever engineer designed the timing of the lights on the capacitive touch keys on the Infuse ought to be fired twice. Once for the design and once for not having an option for an adjustable or always on setting when the screen is on.
There must be a way to make the <OPTION/HOME/PREV/SEARCH> bar to stay lit up. It is driving me absolutely nuts. It goes out in like 2 seconds after I have touched it. No idea why they did that. Stupid stupid stupid stupid design. 9 out of 10 times I hit the wrong key while in an app. It is so annoying.
I am really surprised no DEV has built a longer time option or even an always on option for those keys into a ROM. It's dumb design like that that makes me almost miss my iPhone.
From reading & searching it seems this doesn't bother too many people. I just can't understand why not.
I have tried "KEEP THE LIGHTS ON" app but it is pretty much useless on the Infuse.
there is an app called "keep the lights on" i havent tried it on the infuse but it works on some of the sgs phones.
edit: sorry didnt read the last line of the first post,
its not that hard to memorize 4 buttons, and if you touch the screen, the buttons or the volume rocker they come on.
Just tap the screen and they come back on.

As my OP says: "I have tried "KEEP THE LIGHTS ON" app but it is pretty much useless on the Infuse."
Memorizing them isn't the problem, it's hitting the wrong spot. For some people, with specific physical disabilities, it's not that easy.
Just a simple OPTION would resolve the issue. Still a stupid design. If the screen is lit why shouldn't those keys be lit. The amount of power that backlight draws is probably negligible.

Not always depending on what is happening on the screen and sometimes tapping the screen causes problems with the app that is running.

Unfortunately for some people there are things that prevent some of the simple things in life that others take for granted from being simple tasks.
They aren't that hard to see with the lights off...My phone is about 5 feet away from me and I can still see the home keys just fine.

it is timing, not sure if iti is in services.jar or framework or the kernel. nobody has ever seemed interested in addressing this outside of the keep the lights on app, not sure why.
Let me just say, I am truly pleased that it is not a problem for those of you who replied how easy it is for you, but for those of us that it is a problem it remains a problem.

I hear you. This is one of the few things I don't like about this device. Most of the time it's not an issue, but in low light or darkness it's a bit of a pain trying to locate the right button to press.
"Keep The Lights On" app works fine for me
I just installed the "Keep the Lights On" app, and it works flawlessly. The bottom menu buttons stay on as long as the screen stays on.
Question: When you installed the app, did you add it as a widget, and then enable it? You need root access for this app to work.
I am using Infused 1.5.3, so, not sure if that makes a difference or not.
Edit: Just an FYI, I am using the free version. I would use the pro version, but I'll probably just end up uninstalling this app .

Yes, I installed it as a widget and I do have root access. I am also running Infused 1.53. What kernel are you running? Maybe that is the difference?
It did work for the first few minutes I had it installed than eventually it started getting weird. Sometimes it would work in reverse, most of the time it wouldn't work at all, sometimes it would never shut off (which was OK with me). I contacted the DEV and he said it wasn't compatible with the Infuse and that would be the behavior he would expect.
I think if you use it for a while you'll see what I mean.
Edit: Just uninstalled/reinstalled. First time phone wakes up it works. Once it "sleeps" then wakes up lights NEVER come back on. If I turn widget off/on the same thing recycles. Works once than fails.
I've got to agree with the OP. Since we don't have a nice physical home button, it would be nice to get this thing lit up so we can see. I'm always in a dark environment and I keep hitting the 'back' instead of the 'home' key.
While we're at it, I like to know who the genius is that decided the location of the power button. It's almost impossible to push the button without squeezing the volume buttons. If they come out with a Infuse2 with the power button on the top, I'll switch in a second.

These sorts of issues (both the OP and the power button placement) are easily avoided if you actually go to a store and play with a phone instead of ordering online.
While I do agree that those two issues could have been handled better, I also understand that we're never going to get a perfect phone. So you live with what you like best.
I switched on the pattern unlock, now I dont want it... i unchecked it in settings and it is still there... sometimes i get the regular lock screen and then I will wake it up and it will have the pattern unlock!! btw the phone is completely stock. has any one had this problem? i have also did battery pulls to no avail!!
hah, sounds like mine. i have mine set to on and unless i press the power button to shut the screen off then it doesnt work.
if i let the screen time out the pattern lock doesnt work and its just the regular swipe screen.

How would this be possible? If the screen is off, you can't use it, and thus you can't input anything, and if you can't use any buttons, then there's no way you can unlock it. What are you thinking about, voice recognition?

no, i still want the phone to lock, i just dont want to have to push any buttons to get it to unlock, for the screen to come back on.
for example, i had a nokia nuron that had a slide switch on the side that would lock the phone, it turned the touchscreen off so you didnt accidentally start something. but it also had a screen timeout that would just blank the screen, then you could touch it and it would come back on without having to use the slide switch
i want to blank the screen without locking it. turning off screen lock you still have to use the button to turn the screen back on
I'm speechless!

oh well, guess its just wishful thinking
How can you lock something, and use nothing to unlock it?
For example, you use a key to lock your door, you must use a key to unlock it. Or, you can leave the door open (leave the screen blank), but risk getting robbed (battery drained). I'm sorry if the analogy is bad, what you're asking for is ridiculous.

ok, i think what im doing is confusing blanking the screen with locking the phone, 2 different things. im just concerned that button is gonna get a lot of use and wish the volume rocker wake would work better. oh well

Blanking the screen like it reduces the brightness after a while? If so, there might be an app for it, but it will definitely reduce your battery greatly.
Either way, don't worry about the button. You probably won't have the phone that long, or you'll break something different.

Couple of issues with the One X
LOCK SCREEN RESTART
Most people will probably know already that holding the power button for long enough on the Lock Screen will restart the phone. To me, this is ridiculous. Having no kind of confirmation screen means that the phone is constantly restarting in my pocket as it presses against my leg.
Is there any way to disable this function?
HOME SCREEN NOT SAVING
I add the bookmarks widget to a home screen. It stays there nicely until my phone is restarted (usually due to the issue above). When the phone comes back on the widget is gone and an app (a different one each time) has been added instead.
Anyone else having this issue or know what may be causing it?
Again, sorry if these have been covered and thanks in advance for your help.
Haven't noticed the widget issue, but I don't use rhe bookmarks widget so maybe its specific to that particular widget.
But there have been a couple of times where I've had my phone in my pocket and pulled it out only to have it be turned off. Not sure why considering holding down the lock button on the lock screen is supposed to restart the phone, not turn it off completely.

1) get a case that either partially covers the power button or covers it completely but making it harder to press.
2) get a belt pouch
In either cases your phone will only benefit and may last longer
I personally use horizontal belt pouch and have access to the phone in any position I may be in without awkwardly stretching or leaning, well, unless I'm laying on left side...no issues with pressing buttons ever.
Hi all ,ive resurected this thread to see if anyone has found a way to stop the restart button from working when the phone is locked as its becoming a real pain, ive searched but not found anything....
bump, any ideas anyone, surely just software ? ....
I secomd that.
I've had the same problem from the start. The One X is too easy to unlock. I got some relief with Widget Locker by allowing me to disable the notification bar as a method of unlocking but I still get regular restarts when phone in my pocket and press against power button. Restart should be restricted to an unlocked screen...just like my original HTC Desire. Why do some phone features go backwards?

The restart feature is there to force the phone to restart should it become unresponsive. It's a handy feature to have, it's essential, it's not backwards. Buy a case that limits your access to the power button and hey presto, problem solved.

Yeah If the phone froze on the lockscreen and the power button didn't work when the phone was locked there would be absolutely no way to recover it since it doesn't have a removable battery. The only solution is buy a case the makes the button harder to press or don't carry it in your pocket.

Okay got the picture......reluctantly I will need to buy a case..........Can I make a suggestion for future HTC models.....have a reset button in the form of a tiny hole-identical to the SIM eject hole but obvious on another side of the phone so as not to get them mixed up. This will satisfy everyone.
That's a great suggestion, but I highly doubt it will ever be implemented by HTC. They save money on manufacturing by having the power button doing this operation.

My infuse is randomly turning off (not bootlooping). No particular time of the day. It is not critical but very annoying. Almost evertime I need the phone quickly, it appears off.
Currently running [ROM] 4.2.2 - Jellybean - AoCP 5.6 - The Collective - Final and it appears fine. I am also using an extended battery and though the case back was loose, so I checked that and put in a small wad of piece of paper as a filler to pack the battery in a little more and also cleaned all the terminal connections between battery and phone.
Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue and what to do to correct it?
yes i think its a pretty normal issue for a Infuse. Mine was doing that when i was running Froyo. Now it just reboots.

Reboot is the power button issue (most of the time). This one likes to turn off. Since I padded the case with a little wad of paper, no turn offs but I suspect, now that I said it, it will start turning off again...LOL.
I've had issues with the phone mysteriously turning off ever since running JB. Maybe ICS too. I don't recall ever having an issue with 2.2.
We have five infuses in my family....3 on Froyo and two on GB. I am the designated troubleshooter. (geek)
We have occasional reboot, often during heavy use. I'm not sure I've ever seem them turn off...if it has happened, it's not often.

You sure about that? wouldn't power button issues making the phone restart rather than simply turn off?
I guess if the power button did not work at all and simply was non-responsive the phone could be on and you'd never know it for sure, but at least in my case I know I've missed phone calls when it's off so i dont think that is the case.
I don't think it is the power button issue. It randomly turned off, it did not just reboot. Since I added a piece if paper between back and battery, it has only turned off once. Prior to that it was turning off a couple of times a day.
