Thinkin of getting this phone. - Thunderbolt General

Been a droid incredible user for 18 months, getting a new phone this month and thinking of this or dinc 2. I just cant see $300 for these new phones. Rezound is nice, but i could get either of the other 2, root and run a beats capable rom, buy a klipsch headset, and save $200. Any advice here on the tbolt? Easy to root? Battery? Roms available? Thanks.

In regards to beats Audio, from what I've heard,
If the phone wasn't made with beats audio, the rom wont do anything for you. The phone has to be capable of beats audio for the rom to have a real affect.
Also from dealing with music, beats is over rated, over hyped and over expensive. There is so much more out there for less and better quality...

Thanks. Kinda what i was thinking, so is dual core from what ive played with. I want sometthing affordable so i dont cringe if i break it!

Im loving my TB. There ia plenty of roms and dev community support. If u do decide to get the TB, look it to getting the rezound stock battery...it fits in the TB and lasts alot longer then the TB stock battery.... Best investment i made

Dual Core will be fine once there are more apps and such developed for it. Still pretty new so devs haven't released much for it but Im sure stuff is gonna run fine when they come out.
As stated above. I love the tbolt and have never had an issue with it. I enjoy root but really wasn't going to root until I really missed my wireless tether. Its really a good phone.
I know there have been complaints but I have none. Definitely +1 on either the rezound battery or extended battery. Battery life is not great without one of them...

I like mine,
I still have data connection issues but for the most part I like it, I just rooted for the 2nd time

In regards to your data connections, have you tried a new sim card or even more, and this has happened to a few. Try a new back cover... Some have changed their cover and it fixed their problem. The cover has antennas on it..

Beats audio isn't much more than a glorified equalizer anyway... and in my experience it sounds worse because it clips certain frequencies to emphasize others. I have a set of UE Triple.Fi 10s, and they sound excellent when paired with my phone.
There are plenty of good roms for the TB, the devs have pretty much done an amazing job of shoehorning every version of sense possible onto our device and making it run like it was stock (or better!) You can't really go wrong
Also, another vote for the rezound battery, it makes this thing last forever.

I did not know you could break htc phones every time I've messed up installs they are usually reversible bricking a phone is a myth to me

I have had many, many phones and the Thunderbolt is the best phone I have had, S-Off rooted and flashed the KillaSense 3.5 Rom. Over Clockable Kernel. This phone has never had any signal connection issues, fast as lightning. I would highly recommend this phone to anyone, not to mention the great deals out there for the Thunderbolt. The Rezound battery fits the Thunderbolt and gets me thru the entire day easily. I also bought the 2750 replacement battery but have stuck with the new Rezound battery with the stock slim look. The Rezound battery is much better then the Seidio 1750, The Rezound is 1650 I think but is much better quality. There is my two sense on the Thunderbolt, tons of great Roms to flash, probably more then most phones out there.

How much is the battery and where do you get it?

So........

Am I wrong that I now have an Inspire and am debating coming back to the Captivate? Lmao, but I honestly miss the ese of the device. Never had to worry so much about charging my battery and honestly the screen was better then the Inspire. I don't know maybe it is just me but I am seriously considering it.
Yea a Captivate, running a custom ROM, is better than the Inspire 4G IMO.
Just like I thought, man sometimes I wonder why I got this phone to begin with. The 4G is a joke and I always seem to have an issue with my email with this damn phone. Captivate here I come............
I have seen so many threads of people wanting to know what to get next...they all seem to end up in the same place. STAY WITH THE CAPPY.
Samsung Captivate
ROM: Phoenix Ultimate
Kernel: SuckerPunch-Voodoo #11
Modem: UGJL2
I agree man, I should have just stayed with it. It is one bad ass phone with so much dev support it's amazing. Well it has it's flaws of course but what phone doesn't. Oh well, I have learned my lesson I suppose.
It's easy to get in the 'grass is greener' state of mind. Fact is, there are some amazing phones available, and future is bright. As for now, Captivate is a nice play ground. If it weren't for all the great chef's in the cappy kitchen, my eyes would wonder too
I tried the inspire as well as the atrix and am back to using my captivate.
Neither of the other 2 in my opinion come close to the captivate. I hope att picks up their game soon with some great phones. I don't know how long my cappy will last but I plan on keeping it until it dies. Even after I buy another phone.

I got an Inspire and it has fewer issues... Do you use the GPS? I prefer the Inspire just for the reason that I can not get lost... Something worth considering if you're gonna go back.
there are reasons the the captivate is still more expensive than the inspire in many places and i dont think it is because they want to kill sales for samsung.
the inspire has a great camera, way better than htc's past attemps at 8mp, but the captivate camera aint too shabby. not as great as taking pictures of text but not bad either.
the cappy has a great screen for video and games and photos, not the greatest with small text but it's ok with me. it also makes great calls, a problem with many smart phones is that they are not great at being phones. the cappy is definately different in that area. also the hummingbird is a monster when it comes to video and graphics, and with gingerbread it is a monster all around.
all the inspire has on the cappy is the huge screen, camera flash, more ram, and hsdpa+ but no hsupa yet. so not totally an advantage. by the time att can provide hspa+ to an extent that it is worth having there will be way better phones out.
the cappy has an advantage in graphics processing, maybe speed(depends on whcih benchmark you believe) rich colors, high contrast ratio, scratch resistant screen, great phone calls, battery life especially if you have a custom rom, thinner more pocketable profile, better constuction(matter of oppinion but i think most would agree if they looked inside both) and the coolness factor that nobody knows what it is. it's like being part of a secret club.
I loved my cappy I was just tired of have to flash constantly for performance, maybe the infuse will be better. But then again its samsung

I've had a couple of HTC phones, but every one of them had horrible in-call volume issues... and that, when it all comes down to it, is what a phone is for, after all. I actually exchanged my first Aria in the hope that it would be better, but no go. Granted, the Captivate has it's issues (I wish the camera had a flash), but the work the devs have done to make it a better phone are amazing. And being able to tinker with it satisfies my geeklet yearnings.
I wouldn't trade my Cappy for anything out there at the moment.
I had the Inspire and have only one complaint, I couldnt find the auto answer, so I gave it to my wife, nothing wrong with it its a great phone in 6 months I may revisit it after the devs have lots of roms to flash, lol

Yea I will never knock the phone it is a sweet device. I may go back one day especially since a great dev went over to the Inspire.

The Thunderbolt and it's current state

Hello.
I currently have an X2 that I am moving away from. I do not want to upgrade my contact at this time, so I will be turning to 3rd party vendors to purchse a different phone.
The HTC Thunderbolt has my attention, however I recall this phone being plagued with problems since launch.
Now that we are 6 months removed, how has this phone faired? Have all the bugs/kinks been worked out?
My wife has an Incredible 2 and I always say I wish I had went with HTC over my Droid x2.
Please share your thoughts on the current state of the Thunderbolt!
It is awful. If you buy it you will probably cry your self to sleep every night.
But if you really want one you can bet the market will be flooded with them as soon as the trinity of phones is released (the Galaxy Nexus, the HTC Rezound, the Moto Droid Razor)
I know I will be returning mine to Best Buy since I future proofed it when I bought it from there.
Just my opinion though.

its not TERRIBLE..
but there are certainly better phones out there.
primary problem is the battery life.but if you are always near a charger, this is a non-issue.
i, for one, can't wait to get rid of my tbolt when the nexus is released.
Plagued with problems? The only problem I've ever have is the battery life but its to be expected with 4G LTE. Its a very solid phone all around
Being my city isn't mapped for 4G LTE till 2013, does this make a difference in terms of battery life, or does the phone still use the same juice with a 3g signal?

Will make a significant difference in battery life running 3g, uses far less juice running 3g.
I'm actually on the newest unrooted ruu, and there are honestly no problems. Phone rubs fast as ever, always get signal, battery life is even better.

I would suggest waiting until the beginning of November. 3 new phones are scheduled for the 10th & aroind that time people with Thunderbolts, Bionics, etc will try to get rid of them to move up & you'll be able to price haggle with them good.
Good advice - I will wait till then!
The TBOLT is not a bad phone at all, but I would wait and check some of the new ones coming out.
But honestly I do not understand why so many people down the tbolt, mine has been a super solid and great phone and I have no need or desire for anything else right now.
With extended battery, I have no issues at all. Fast, reliable and solid.

not to mention the Tbolt is indestructible(so long as the screen doesn't get hit). i got pissed one night while i was driving and threw it out the window. i stopped and went back to get it and it had some scratches on it but was still working perfectly.
although if it's anything like the HD2, don't let even the slightest drop of water anywhere near it.
The phone itself is a hell of a lot better than a good deal of what HTC has put out before. The software has been the only real problem and that's been almost completely worked out. I'm not sure there's any outstanding issues with functionality and reliability. An extra power-sucking core that's identical to the one in the Tbolt doesn't turn me on enough to be tempted to upgrade. I don't know anyone who's disappointed with it.
Personally I love my bolt and I'm not super worried about the uh "trinity" lol. The bionic was supposed to be this amazing phone but I saw one and frankly I would rather have my old bolt.
My name is Revos I'm a recovering flashaholic running Liquid Gingerbread 3.0
Ignore the Naysayers... It's a great phone. Rooted.. Mine is smooth as butter. Battery is not an issue of you plan right. I put my stock battery back in (with extended to fall back on). Lte is stinkin awesome. The screen (when not in direct sun) is perfectly acceptable.
Unrooted? Well, I can't tell you.. It's been too long. I rooted because I was tired of waiting for GB and the bloatware.

If I had an upgrade coming up I'd seriously consider the tbolt. 4g phone for $100 & a extended battery, sign me up. Seems that all the bugs are finally worked out & with GB finally close, it's a good deal.
This coming from a guy that had 3 bolts in 5 months. For what it can do & the price, its almost too good to pass up.

It's an amazing phone for the price. I'm running a BAMF GB sense 3.0 ROM and I spend most of the day checking on the forums or messaging my girlfriend, although a lot is on WiFi. On BAMF Forever I pull 30 hours on extended battery. And that's not with anything disabled that I use. I won't handicap a feature just for battery life.
It's insanely durable hardware wise as someone mentioned. And the developer support for it is rest good. It's a very nice time to purchase the Thunderbolt as well as a lot of people are getting ready to sell to go to the new rezound, formerly called Vigor, because it was hyped early on as the Thunderbolt 2.

Ive used those roms plus cm7 and miui. so,sorry to burst your bubble but this phone is the biggest piece of crap hardware I have ever used! I would not recomend it to anyone. I have almost lost my job because of it. I mean how can a phone be charging and use up all the battery life and die. then I have no alarm to wake me up. and whats with this random freezing.playing a game or idle, you have to pull the battery every time. my back cover is not going to last. and the screen bleed issue. thats just lack of quality controll. I got this phone as a replacement for my sgs4g. I cant belive tmobile would even offer this phone as it has caused more headaches than my 9 previous sgs devices.

Sounds more like user error than the fault of the hardware, or you're badly mistreating the phone (9 previous SGS devices?!). Either that or you're extremely unlucky. In my experience every G2x I've ever touched (and I've tested quite a few) works just fine as long as you treat it properly and don't go crazy installing stupid apps that have no business being on anyone's phone.

I dont think flashing custom roms has anything to do with these problems since there are others with the same issues on stock roms . custom roms for the vibrant and sgs4g only made things better. hell, I even have an origional galaxy I7500 that runs 2.3.4 gingerbread with no problems.

Opinion & Thoughts on G2x

Hi all,
I am new to this sect of the forum, currently own Samsung T959(Vibrant). Looking to buy another phone to play with on craigslist. I saw couple of them listed for $200. Need your true opinion and thoughts of the G2x. Thank you. Is $200 good deal?? most of them listed for 275 to 300.
my honest opinion... if it is rooted and played with enough to find stable for you, then yes 250$ is worth it. I have a very stable and good working phone that gets about 16-24 hours of average use (for me) with data on always.

Thank you..what r the most common issues with this phone, i.e like on Vibrant GPS is our most common problem, what about G2x??
has reboots for some people I've had two myself one of which I was overclocked to 1.6 GHz lol... some people have BSOD (black screen of death) plug your phone in to charge it wont wake up without battery pull, issue I've never had. GPS, Wi-Fi, audio all are great for me... (don't use blue tooth) HDMI worked the one time I used it at a family members house. that's all i got really that are actual reported issues. I love the phone get alot of compliments on it. How I feel is: it's good enough for me to last at least another year, especially if the devs keep up their dedication on ICS and if LG will actually put out ICS for us.
He mt3g is bsod kernel specific? I had that like 5 times over a 2 month period using faux kernels? Never with morfic yet. And when I had it it drained the battery two. I've had 3 rebooted since launch which was in April. So I don't have that problem. I honestly believe 200 is a good price because there is a fix for everything on XDA that this phone have. Dev isn't like the vibrant though. We do have a few dedicated devs so its not really a big deal.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
It definitely depends on your kernel and hardware. I was getting tons of bsods with trinity (probably need to do a full wipe) but I get none on faux ds kernel.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
Awesome hardware.
Crappy software unless you root it and flash a custom ROM.
GPS is pretty ****ty, & unreliable. But works well sometimes, just not all the time for some reason.
512mb's of RAM just sucks. My browser and launcher always gets pushed out of memory frequently no matter what ROM/kernel I have.
Overall it's a decent phone. Doesn't really hold up to the newer phones that are out now, especially with the ones that have 1GB of total RAM. But it's a good phone to get on the cheap, so good luck!
Ya I agree that it is very much kernel specific just by what I read places, especially since some people can't even load a rom with specific kernels in them the phone just wont except them cause they are under-volted. Luckily I don't have any of the issues people report. Oh and the phone is pretty tough as well I've dropped it 4 times no case, on cement, asphalt, and what ever is at the bar I go to... I think that fake softer tile look-a-like stuff, linoleum... any who, no cracks and breaks just dings and dents lol.

I wouldn't spend a lot on it. For me, when it works, its great but every single rom I have tried has resulted in either random reboots or "Black screens of death". TYhe battery life is bad too, you really need to setup alot of things to get the most out of it.
The phone does run apps like a champ though and if you are into pocket gaming then this phone is great.
Imagine buying a sports car but the radiator doesn't work all the time causing it to overheat and forcing you shut off once in while. also imagine that instead of a normal fuel tank, it comes with one that is half the size. you still got a nice sports car but it has problems.

Same here, except I got it for $260 with 1-day shipping. I couldn't wait long for it.
I UV -50mv no problem, I haven't tried anything less because I get almost a full 24 hours of use, I don't want to mess with a perfect thing. By far better battery life, better than the Vibrant for sure, even with it running ICS, which I got the best battery life on the Vibrant.
The only complaint I have is the GPS. It works when it wants to, I got used to not having one on the Vibrant, I could never get it to work. Its definitely better than the Vibrant, as it actually connects sometimes.
But for $200, you're getting one hell of a phone. Use Bionix Reloaded v1.3 or stability, reliability, and battery life. Use a CM7 based ROM for speed and performance. Don't use ICS yet if you need everything to work however, its still very Alpha. Very.

Thinking of getting inspire need help?

I am thinking of buying my friends inspire off him and wondered how it is?
How is battery life?
What is the best rom? Is sense 3.5 any good? Never had a sense phone.
I noticed with the roms you have to have s-off? What is that and how is it done?
My biggest concern is the sense music player "iPod ish" in behavior?
Code:
I am thinking of buying my friends inspire off him and wondered how it is?
I really like mine. I mean, it's not some uber powerful phone that rules them all or anything, but it's higher up in the chain.
Code:
How is battery life?
Battery life is pretty decent, but it really depends on the usage. Screen brightness, playing games, how much you text/call, if you have data, gps, and sync on all the time; just regular smartphone stuff.
Code:
What is the best rom? Is sense 3.5 any good? Never had a sense phone.
There isn't really a "best rom", it's a matter of preference. You can get a stable 2.3.5 rom, such as Android Revolution, or an alpha release of an ICS rom (there are a few, just check the Android Development section.) I really enjoyed the CM7 mod because of the performance and stability; but I had an aosp ICS rom that was just wonderful, but pretty unstable. If you can deal with instability, get an ICS rom for sure.
Sense is really really nice (IMO). But again, it's all preference.

S-off means the phone security is off, and you can flash roms and have root. You get s-off when you root.
NOTE: I'm not a root-master by any means, so I could probably be wrong on that. Please don't take my word for it.

My biggest concern is the sense music player "iPod ish" in behavior?
You can get a third party music player. I really like PowerAmp, would recommend that, or WinAmp.
U should go to YouTube and type in inspire review and read comments. I always do that before purchasing a new phone.

I am thinking of buying my friends inspire off him and wondered how it is?
How is battery life?
What is the best rom? Is sense 3.5 any good? Never had a sense phone.

Battery Life, 3+ hours with the screen on 100% like watching videos and games, 6 hours
of talk time, about 24 hours of standby time, but thats with a new battery, and taking
steps to improve battery life.
I have only tried a few ROMs, the three I like are:
Android Revolution HD - looks pretty, runs like a stock rom but tweaked
CoreDroid HD - Seams a little more tweaked in some areas, has a lot of good stuff built-in
BlackICE - Good battery life, no extra junk, CyanogenMod based
Like others have said, you are just going to have to try a few ROMs and see what you like,
I will say that with the Sense ROMS I ended up using scrips to remove a lot of stuff in my
effort to save on battery life, thats why I settled on a CyanogenMod based ROM.
Battery Life
This was my first non-Blackberry phone and I was completely disappointed. If I leave my phone at work on my desk, checking a few emails, texts, etc, I will run out of battery by the end of the day. I noticed that Facebook app was sometimes using 15% of the battery life. Deleting that helped. Also when I installed ICS the battery seems to have improved slightly.
Rom
Completely new to Roms but I installed one on here by existz. Google for AOSPX since I can't post links yet.
It's basically as close as you can get to the plain ol' ICS. Since his newest version has been coming out I've had virtually no issues. Was never really a fan of Sense. Some of the HTC stuff is nice, but I've always been a fan of less.
Phone
The phone is heavy. Which kind of gives it a sturdy feel, but it hasn't been in my experience. The added weight means if you drop it, it will hit with some force. I learned the hard way when the screen shattered completely from a 3 foot drop. Haven't had any issues since I got a gel skin for it though.
The inspire was my first android, after being an iPhone owner, I was quite happy to change.
I can't comment from experience but I like this phone a lot. I've also been using existz from and its awesome. Rooting the inspire is super easy.
The battery life isn't great, but I have chargers every where; home, car and work managing the phones resources helps, like turning off wifi, data, by, and GPS when not using them.
I don't think you can go wrong with the inspire for free or for cheap.

The Inspire is a nice phone to have due to its big screen. I've had it for 6 months already and i can't complain I recently rooted my phone to Rcmix3d 4.0 and it works even better
I've had mine for a little less than a year and have had no major issues. I switched from a Blackberry and this is a drastic improvement.
I wouldn't get to hung up on the ROM since it is extremely easy to root and flash a new ROM. I rooted mine a few weeks ago and flashed ICS (Redemption) to it and it works great.
It is easy to find music apps so I wouldn't stress about that either.
Battery life is decent but it does decrease over time. It may be worth investing in a new one if it is really bad.

I have had my inspire for almost a year and a half and its a great phone. I was slightly disappointed with the battery, but I always Cary a charger with me. It is deffanately a rugged phone. My frient bought one and stoped it down a flight of stairs without a case or screen protector and it came through with minor scraches, he also lives his inspire and after having nothing but iPhones he absolutely loves it. Oh, BTW the best Rom I have found is one called Virtuous Affinity, it is a mod of RCMix, and it is more stable. Overall the inspire is a great, reliable phone.

I say get one dude, I have a iphone for regular use and the inspire for work, has not failed me yet. The battery life is excellent atleast for me, I do not use it really heavy so I get good battery life
Get one, it's a very good phone, battery sucks, but it is all together a very sound phone. Rooting it was a snap (did my first root ever, last week, woot woot!) And I got to say that I don't know why I didn't do it sooner! Right now I am running CM7, I have flashed a few other ones, but I have come to find the stability of this ROM is phenomenal, awesome work by the Cyan Mod team! I still have a lot to learn about the full capabilities of root, but if you're looking for a starter Android, this is the way to go.

I like mine. I bought it last July and have been using it since. I shattered the digitizer in Nov but bought a replacement from ebay for about $50. The phone still works great. I have AOSPx on it and it is very smooth.
I got my inspire ladt week..(had an upgrade and 97 cents usd couldn't resist)
I have rooted and flashed a few roms and i cant complain lol

Do it.. I came from a Samsung captivate. My plan wasn't due for an upgrade yet so I managed to get an old new old stock inspire off craigslist.. so totally love this phone. Just root it and play with some roms. I've used cm7 which I wasn't very fond of leedroid which I loved, coredroid which was meh ok, cleatdroid which was good but now I'm using virtouos affinity which I'm really liking..

i love mine. never ever have any problem with it. i love the fact that its highly supported with alot of new roms, so i have a tons of choice to install to the phone: from basic clean GB rom, to ICS with sense, now i can even have my inspire with Samsung Galaxy s3 theme how nice that is. the only thing i wish the phone could have is front camera.
Go for it bro, root it, enjoy the features of rooting
