skyrocket vs note vs galaxy nexus - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

What would you do if you had the choice and why? i have the skyrocket from rogers and i love this phone however the network has been a big let down when it comes to LTE. i was getting better reception on 3g and hspa+. That being said i am thinking about switching to a diffrent device untill the network gets up and running properly. Would you switch or tough it out ? THANKS

If I could afford it and it was available here in Chicago, I would jump on the Note in a heartbeat, for one reason only.....
SCREEN! 5.3" PRECIOUSSSS.....I love this 4.5" screen on the SR, but the Note's 5.3" makes me drool!

No, not me. In fact, even the Skyrocket is marginally too large for one hand operation. One needs two hands to operate this phone decently. Entering text in the landscape mode is just achievable with the keys in the middle of the keyboard a bit difficult to reach.
Thus, for phone functionality, the 4.5'' screen is at the very end of the usability curve. After that, phones cannot be easily used in one-handed way and the landscape keyboard would be unusable.

I was waiting for the Nexus, ICS was the draw, plus VZ large LTE network.
But as most of the mods being created were adding alot of GB back into ICS, as they were features you really needed. The Nexus can' t even get 1.5 ghz overclocked. I decided I would be getting it for a few bells and whistles, the latest and greatest OS and buying an inferior device at $300, why would I do that, almost like buying an Iphone.
The Sky has better hardware, almost the same screen realestate, ~ same thickness. Is $179 vs $300, the Devs are doing great work, adding the right portions of ICS features, plus the hardware tweaks.
Yes the Nexus has a HD screen, seriously unless you do a side by side, you won't be thinking , boy the sky has an inferior screen. I feel like we are back the 720 vs 1080 debate again, someone will always take the argument that the HD screen is better........
I felt the sky modded with ICS elements was far superior, than the Nexus with a few GB elements added back.
My sky will arrive today, after I've left for business, looking forward to getting home and modding away.
The note is huge, not for me.
Edit— As of today there is still no flash for the Nexus, it is almost an Iphone.

Note is huge and nobody should buy it..(lol... I want that)
SR is the best thing out right now... PERIOD.

Says the guy with small hands...
My hands are HUGE. I can easily palm a basketball off of a dribble. The iPhone 4 was WAY too tiny. The SR is about right. I'd love to see what the note is like in my hands and in my pocket.
And I still miss the original Xbox "THE DUKE" Controller!

I call it a microscope
This "clipboard" or whatever you call it works very well on the skyrocket. I long press on the text I see, let's say I want to copy an URL from a web page, and paste it into my browser.
There is a little window that pops up just above your finger like a microscope, to help you pull your finger off in the correct spot. I have used it repeatedly and got the hang of it and it's got me where I don't need a computer at all.
This phone rocks.
Ok, on the bigger screen at the ATT store, elible for an upgrade, the manager said if I pay almost 500 US dollars (that's out the door) for a Galaxy Tab he'd throw the skyrocket in for free. I declined. And it's not because of the big screen. It was the extra cost and....
I asked the question repeatedly until he admitted there was no radio antenna and that I was correct it was not a phone. He kept insisting it's internet capabilities can let it be USED "like" a phone... But as soon as a big screen tab gets an antenna, and can also BE YOUR PHONE?
I am all over it. I disagree with the idea your phone screen has to be small. If you put a radio antenna so a big flat screen TV could be a phone, someone would buy it and there may even be a freak like me who would carry it around!
As far as one handed operation, there should be NO OPERATION as far as I'm concerned, while driving for one thing, and many various state laws, about using a phone with your hands while driving, and many employers, like mine, will administer disciplinary action if you are caught using your phone during working hours. So. There you go. Too much information. LOL
Bottom line is the skyrocket is the schiznizzel, and if they make a bigger screen that performs as well or better, I'll be all over it like a hobo on a ham sandwich.

i am up for an upgrade...coming from Samsung Captivate, I want to stay with Samsung. I am confused between Note and Skyrocket. So the only difference Screen size and resolution? Any other major difference...(Apart from Stylus)....

viny2cool raised a dead thread? lol. And yes the skyrocket has LTE, but if your carrier doesn't support it, or u don't have it in ur area, and 4g for u. As an alternative u can try the telus t989 radio which is dual band, you'LLC get some dang good speed if ur carrier supports that

ATT has LTE in Jersey city...thats the main reason why I want thinking about skyrocket or Note...
If LTE was not an issue, I would gone for OG GS2 in a heartbeat...it will be shame to live in an area with LTE and not using it because you dont have the compatible phone...

I was responding to dobbs3x, and I'm posting from my phone so I was too lazy to check ur profiles. But yes LTE but no compatible device sux

Agreed. There are however some people who opt to go w/ the OG GS2 b/c of battery life. On the rare occasion I have no access to Wifi the whole day and I'm on LTE, I can't last longer than 12 hrs. I need an app like Green Power to intermittently turn off my data to extend my battery life. This wasn't really a problem before LTE was turned on in my area.

If u need to use the phone for that long, forgo LTE speeds and switch to GSM/HSPA only in mobile network settings. 4g should be good enough if u can't charge, no? Then its basically the equivalent of the sgs2, no LTE radio on = better battery

Good point. I forgot the OP said Rogers. On ATT, we don't have the option to switch to HSPA+ (why they took it out defies logic to me ).

I was talking about ur situation lol, I didn't check ur profile until just now (xda app u let me down). The op is long, someone zombified this thread from the dead lol. Couldn't u try flashing a Rogers based ROM and using hspa that way, or the kj2 radio with an added apn entry? Cuz I know AT&T still has support for it on there network

You're right; a custom rom will have that feature. So far, I like everything about this phone other than battery life. I'm still chicken about flashing a new rom or kernel and messing something up (I'm stock and rooted). I thought about flashing a Rogers radio, but there were too many people in that thread who said they couldn't get data working.

Should i buy an inspire?

so i've got an att nexus one right now, been using that and a captivate, the screen on the captivate is excellent especially in sunlight but the browsers slow and it doesnt run gingerbread roms right now too well either.
I'm considering picking up an Inspire cause i like htc build quality, the screen is larger than the nexus one and it seems faster than both the captivate and nexus one, which are both pretty fast for what they are.
Was wondering if you guys could tell me if they've fixed the issue with "4g" and what the connection is like for you guys as im usually not on wifi, what battery life is like and how you guys are coping with the screen.
i dont know if you guys have compared it to the samsung or iphone screens but it just wanes in comparison. these are the 3 things holding me back from the purchase, right now just looking for something to hold me off till the new dual core wave comes crashing on in

When comparing anything its going to boil down to personal preference. I have had the iPhone 3g, 3gs, 4 and the Samsung captivate. I am happy with the inspire. More so then with the captivate I had gps issues and the random power down problem. And don't really miss the iPhone because i enjoy the ability to customize android and the larger screen (I also had all my phones jailbroken). In my area the "4g" connection isn't really any better then 3g. But really that's going to depend on your area. What "4g" issue are you referring to?
I personally do not like the Samsungs.. they seem to be a little more square for my taste. I love my inspire.. now Radioshack is going to start selling a red inspire instead of the standard color one. I love sense so that's why I went with an HTC

That's not an issue though. Nothing is broken or not working properly. It's just the way ATT is marketing its "4g".

i meant for a while they didnt have the 4g antennas activated in the atrix and inspire and only recently made them usuable through an update but some were reporting no differences in speed and some found the iphone 4 almost twice as fast. i put the 4g in quotes for the lte argument yes
I think im going to throw miui on the inspire, its my favorite rom for all android phones, its like the best of both worlds, the simplicity and organization of an iphone with the customization and widgets of android.

Ok I think you miss understood what was going on with the "4g" they were not allowing the "4g" upload connection. That's all the update changed was upload capability. So that you could get "4g" upload speeds. Nothing with download connection or speed changed.
Speed always is determined on how closely are to a tower and of that tower actually supports 4g(hspa+). Most people right now won't see a big difference because hspa+ is relatively new. Personaly I get 6Mbps down such I believe is very good. BTW you cannot even compare this phone to an iPhone, it just blows it put of the water (4. 3 inch screen that is absolutely stunning for only being "super lcd", the flexibility of the Android OS is just insane, battery life is okay on stock but with the right ROM it can last well over a day, almost no defects-except battery cover issue wich has been fixed- and the amazing quality of the. Phone itself.

Personally, if I were in your position with a functional Captivate, I would stick with it for awhile as you wont see much improvement from the HTC Inspire 4G (unless you are dying to have HTC sense).
I can tell you, I came from the captivate to the inspire for two specific reasons:
1. My captivate had crummy gps and a not-so responsive back button
2. I'm an HTC fanboy
Although I'm happy with my decision, it's mainly because of the working GPS and back button. Here are the items I miss most from my captivate:
1. Touchwiz core apps. Samsungs Calendar, Clock/Alarm, contacts, and other core apps are just flat out better in my opinion. (HTC Sense is nice, and works somewhat well, but I really don't actually 'use' the widgets much at all, and I had the exact same kinds of widgets for my cappy if i wanted them.)
2. The screen on the captivate is most definitely better, and could also lead to better battery life.
As for "radio performance," I travel a lot in PA, DE, MD, DC, and VA... And I haven't noticed any better radio performance or specifically; no real speed increases from my captivate (with Cognition from back around january, haha). Amazingly, I'm trying out different radios now, because my inspire performs worse with the new ATT OTA - 06.06.30_M radio (much higher ping = 500ms to 1,500ms) and about the same speeds most of the time. Sometimes I get nice upload or download speeds, but it's so random at the moment I just want more consistent low ping for noticably better web page loading, syncing, etc. I don't often download MB's of data unless I'm getting a new app or downloading a podcast (which I can wait a few more seconds for, seriously).
In the end, it boils down to personal preference. I was able to explain my GPS and back button issues to AT&T in order to get upgrade eligability, so it made sense (ended up selling the Captivate to someone via craigslist). If you plan on paying more than the usual <$100 for the Inspire, I would stick with your captivate for the contract period.

I wish they'd come out with an iphone for tmobile already cause honestly i intend to get the new iphone when it comes out. But i just purchased an inspire, something to mess with while waiting for some new stuff to pop up. i think the only downfall is really the screen, battery life isnt great on anything i've tried aside from the iphone 4 which has lasted me 3days with minimal use.
This phone is great! Enough said. Dev support... Is awesome! As far as 4G I get 6 to 7mbps. My brother has t-mobile there same HSPA + yeilds him 2-3mbps. 3g on AT&T
Gets me those same speeds

I guess the screen battery drain would suck If I needed this as a phone. I use mine as a toy. Internet, games, Texting, Facebook...I may have made a call/received one on it 3 weeks ago. Not sure its been so long. lol At work I have a direct ext. and at home I have a landline. So yeah. Heh
AT&T is going to release a dual core htc phone sometimes in the future from what i heard, HTC Holiday, if u can wait, why not save a few bucks, although Inspire 4g is a sick phone, and there are many great rom you can flash.
good luck !
I've been thinking about getting an Inspire also. I've never owned any touchscreen phone in the past, so I've been doing quite a bit of reading about them lately. From reading the inspire forums everyone that owns one seems to really like it. Is there another phone for att even being considered as the best? I looked at the Infuse, but seems like most folks don't really like the sammy ui's and its gigantic. I also read that the battery life was pretty bad. When you guys say the battery life is disappointing on the Inspire with stock roms, how bad is it? Can I expect to get 12-15 hours out of it just with normal usage (few phone calls, some texting, light browsing)? Some of the posts I read here make it sound as if I should only expect 8 hours or so stock.

the infuse is quite lightweight, and the screen is nice, its not a bad phone, why not get one and if you dont like it, return it within 2 weeks or switch to inspire, i think you have 2 weeks
and the best way to fix a battery issue is buying an other charger
I'm considering trying to get the phone used, and avoid re-contracting with att. If I end up going that route then I cant test drive any phones. I do like the front facing camera and was originally attracted to it because of that. However it is quite a bit more expensive atm. I'm looking for the best value for money and so far the inspire fits, just a bit worried about the battery life.
then you are gonna love the inspire for the money you spend, in my own opinion.
honestly i feel that the battery is not as good as it can be, but i still get about 14 hours out of it and i use my phone ALOT!

[Q] Should I buy the Infuse 4G?

I'm currrently in a HSPA+ Backhaul area, and I own the Galaxy S 4G (t-mobile, unlocked right now). I only get around 3mbps because my current phone doesn't support the correct AT&T Bands.
So far development looks good for this phone, but I'd like to hear it from you guys, should I go for this phone?
Thanks in advance
I'm not a Samsung fan but this is a sweet looking phone. I recently left at&t and I only recommend going to them if you're in a hspa+ area which it seems you are. Samsung devices tend to get a lot of dev support and the screen on this baby is kick ass
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
I would recommend it. There is a lot of support, which seems a little slow now but only because Gingerbread seems to be right around the corner. Go play with one in store to see how you like the screen, that's how my fiancee was convinced instead of an iPhone 4.

How are you getting 3Mbps on EDGE? The Galaxy S 4G lacks AT&T 3G bands
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
The T-Mobile versions of the Galaxy S have the 1900mhz band AT&T uses.
As for getting the Infuse, I'd wait until the GS2 comes out, personally. I had the Inspire and it didn't fit my needs, so I just traded for an Infuse this weekend, but if it was an option, I would have waited the month.
That being said, I HATE Samsung phones. When I worked for Sprint, I was the product "advocate" for the Epic, getting it a month in advance, showing it off to customers, etc. I hated everything about that phone and Samsung's empty promises of bringing Froyo to the party. However, aside from a lack of Gingerbread on the Infuse, I'm really liking this device. Feels solid, doesn't creak, and the SAMOLED+ screen is leaps and bounds better than the regular SAMOLED.

I wish AT&T did a lot of things differently. They really are a horrible, scumbag company, especially as an employee.
Yeah I hate AT&T as well, except i'm locked in till 2013.
lol you should have heard some of the conversations about ETF fees I had today.
I had to get TWO supervisors on the phone, which had to call a store, which then had to transfer me (a polite way of dropping me, "accidentally").
And if you have enhanced backhaul and HSPA+ you should be getting around 8MBPS down (during non-peak hours).
And the phone on the Galaxy S 4G is very similar to the Infuse 4G from what I've heard. Both AMOLED and similar pixel sizes.
Similar processors too, lol. I'm overclocked at 1.5ghz right now.

So far development looks good for this phone, but I'd like to hear it from you guys, should I go for this phone?
Thanks in advance

This is a question that is mostly about personal preference. I had been an HTC user since the first slide out keyboard days, used to swear by the HTC phones as the best on the market. Recently many phone manufacturers are starting to catch up and pass by the HTC team.
I tried the Motorola Atrix for a month, loved the dual core processor and super resolution screen. and Oh Em Gee . . . 1930 mAh battery!
But why is a 540 x 960 pixel screen only 4.0 inches? (I say only but it really wasn't a bad size.)
Then I looked at the Infuse. 4.5 inch monster screen, resolution was less (540 x 960 pixels) but the way I understand, the super amoled plus screen has more sub-pixels per than any other phone and when you see the vibrant colors jump out at you from that monster screen, well I was sold. Okay, not a dual core, but running 1.2 ghz makes up the difference a bit. And even though the battery is 1750 mAh I still get a twelve to fourteen hour day out of regular use. The main selling point for me was that beautiful screen and the super-amoled-colors. And I don't care what anyone says . . .size matters!
Now when the dual core-super amoled double plus-4.5 inch-1950 mAh-3D-1080HD video-2mp front facing camera-gingebread phone comes out well . . . droool.
So go to a store, play with the phone for a couple of hours, play with the other phones for a while. Order the Infuse from online and if you do buyers remorse (30 days to return the phone) buying it online means you won't have to pay the re-stocking fee. My AT&T store even told me that if I bought it online and returned it to the store they wouldn't charge the fee.
Good luck and may your choice make you happy. Now excuse me I have angry birds to fling at smug piglets.

Well thing is...I have to purchase it unlocked....I'm not eligible for another phone for 9 months...lol.
I'd sell my GS4G, hopefully raise some money, then buy this on eBay used.
I am in the same boat as the op, currently went from the cappy which soft bricked on me to a jail broken iPhone 4 now am debating on switching to the Infuse. I miss Android sometimes lol.
You can have mine..................................................when you pry it outta my cold dead hands!
lol thanks for the offer, I usually don't pry phones' from peoples hands.
Not my style.
Anyways, I've tried all these devices.
GS4G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
Motorola Backflip
So far my favorite is the GS4G simply because it's Android.
But i'm still stuck, aah.
Infuse or no Infuse?
After all, the Galaxy S II is coming soon.
You better hurry up and making up your mind before Apple..

Eh, Apple has no merit for the lawsuit.
As one of the comments on that article says, just because Samsung says their products are comparable, they're not the same.
If that lawsuit seriously has an affect on Samsung sales, I might just sue Apple myself for pissing me off.
And then with my winnings purchase 7 copies of the Galaxy S II
Coming from a captivate I'm loving this thing!! And since its so recent release and some great roms and kernels there's SO much more to come with GB around the corner and the things it can already and will do! Its amazing and Clear and well.....just WoW! I get battery life through the roof as well thanks to the rom and kernel I'm running. Needless to say I'm Very Very happy!

Actually it will run on both.
I am hoping someone will try the TM 989 root method. I am hopeful it will work but dont want to be the guinea pig.
Well I picked one up on an upgrade, I wanted the Vivid, but the AMOLED screens are just to nice, I have 30 days anyhow. According to the map I should be in LTE but near the edge, doesn't seem like I'm getting LTE though.
BTW is there a way to turn off LTE if you want?
I also notice that my old Captivate screen seems brighter though.
should i wait for the galaxy nexus hoping that it will come to at&t or should i just get the skyrocket?

Ditto. I went with an open mind to both, used both for a while, the Samsung screen wins hands down. You can say all you want about resolution or DPI Specs, but when you see the 2 phones side by side it is not even a comparison, let alone if you compare sunlight/brightness.
I believe there is a way to turn off LTE but I haven't figured it out yet. In some screenshots (posted somewhere on XDA) I saw a menu that had 3g/HSUPA/LTE and then an option for just 3g/HSUPA+ with no LTE. I can't find that menu though .

No one can answer that for you. How long are you willing to wait? The Nexus is an unknown for AT&T. It hasn't even been comfirmed that it IS coming, let alone a release date. Speculation says yes, there is a GSM model, but that doesn't mean it will come or when. I wasn't willing to wait. If it comes I will just sell my Skyrocket and buy the Nexus.

Absolutely 100% agree. I don't even like the higher resolution screen because the fonts and icons are smaller. Reminds me of my old 3.2" phone with more space for tiny icons. Of course my 64yr old eyes aren't as good as they used to be either.

ATT is not the same as Verizon LTE. The LTE does not eat the battery in my experience so far. I find it the same as my SG2 that I exchanged.
But I am sure when we get ROOT and some ROM's there will be a toggle.
If I had the extra Money I would have gotten this but still the HTC Vivid is nice. Not sure if the Samsung has built in FM Radio but the HTC Does. Regardless though both are nice I just couldn't afford the difference in price. That and I also remembered when I was looking at the devices that AMOLED Has a degradation Issue.

How do you like the Skyrocket as opposed to the SGSII?
I went to the ATT store today to check out the Vivid and Skyrocket (they don't have the SGSII anymore on display). The Vivid was big, heavy and bland colors to me. But the phone looks so nice.
The Skyrocket just looked big and the dev support is a question mark as it's veers off the path of the Internations SGSII.
I ended up jumping on a SGSII from BB for $99. And hopefully my Reward Zone points come through for the phone which would be enough for a $100 gift card

I like it quite a bit so far.
I did some benchmarks of my Galaxy S II (and saw some on the Skyrocket on YouTube, which pretty much sold me.) I like the larger screen and form factor. I don't notice any of the pixellation people were talking about, and the bigger screen for me means more readability. The Quadrant benchmarks were just odd when I started playing with them myself. They seemed to run from 2900 up to 3900, but the FPS was definitely lower than the OG while watching the tests run. I'm not into FPS style of gaming on a mobile phone personally - but the Need For Speed (crippleware) on the phone ran incredibly smoothly. The AnTuTu benchmark outperformed the (stock clock) OG, but the odd thing is it took a couple of warm-up trials before getting the best set of numbers. It will only be a matter of time until we have an overclock kernel.
Network speeds are much higher, even though I don't live in an LTE area. On the OG I was limited to 2.4 Mbps speeds - but in the exact same spot, I'm getting 5.6 Mbps speeds on the Skyrocket. Obviously if you live in an LTE area the difference is much higher, but the improved network boost here meant much more to me than a lower OpenGL framerate. This was testing with Entropy's 11/3 daily driver as well, which optimized the read buffers. The stock kernel for me was even slower.
I don't notice any of the screen stuttering that others have mentioned.
I consider it an upgrade personally.

Stay or Go with the SkyRocket lack of Dev Support

So here we are approaching the 30 day window for returns with ATT.
I previously had a ATT Galaxy 2 and returned it for the SkyRocket because I am in an LTE area. Well I love the LTE Speeds but I have some negatives with the SR and would like some input not flames.
Concerns:
1. Processor is not as fast as the Exynos and the benchmarks support the statement. As a result video's can get choppy.
2. Kernel Development is limited and moving slow.
3. ROM Development is limited and moving slow.
I could live with issue 1 since I think with development 2 and 3 will be resolved.
I am not taking potshots at the development members. I personally have made donations to several members in hopes of stimulating the development and I appreciate all that has been done but it's not moving very well. Each and every ROM has issues whether its MMS or LTE Support or SoD on the kernel development.
So do I stay or go? What are your thoughts are you staying or going?
Does anyone see any solid development on the horizon?
Overall I believe the device is not being adopted a a high enough rate and this is definitely caused by Samsung segmenting the market by morphing this device to each and every carrier. Which has hindered the development efforts for each of these mutated devices.
Thanks for your thoughts.

The sprint and at&t og sgs2 are the most similiar to the International one.
The ****rocket and tmo sgs2 are the mutated ones.
I was planning to get a ****rocket, but after reading about the LTE throttling, bad ppi, and snapdragon chipset, I decided to sell my og SGSII and go with the Note.
Lets just say, once you use the note, you will not be able to use small phones anymore.

The "Galaxy Nexus".
Not the Nexus One or the Nexus S. I ordered it from Expansys-usa should be here sometime this week. Nexus Prime was just a name they used when the phone was being developed. Cost me $729.99 with a -$20 coupon code for the site. The no SD card thing kinda bummed me out and thats originally why I bought the SR over it but after using google music during beta and now that its out and free. I have realized that 16gb will be enough storage for me since I can stream all of my music through google music. The SR was nice but I really want that stock android experience and not to have to wait for updates from AT&T or samsung. I got burnt out on waiting when using the Infuse. How many times did AT&T promise Gingerbread for the infuse...

Exactly..I tried the SGS2 orig because of this Exynos talk..well it was slower than the Skyrocket. In terms of ROM, I have it working complete with 14 toggle mod, camera hack to use power button to click, 3200-3500+ quadrant (if it means anything really) without any special kernels no overclocking etc, no random reboots, no locks to freeze and take out battery etc., NO! SODs, no video lags (whatever folks talk of..have downloaded many videos and play them directly), no MMS issue at all !...Vis Voicemail etc all work..even modified the dialer so that have the Tmob type dialer with extra button for voicemail along side the button for the phone on one side and the messaging button on the other side.
only miss in-dialer video chat (3G direct..not talking of Google talk) that is there in I9000 (orig SGS not SGS2) ROMs and the Infuse (modified dialer there too for direct video chat)..the ROM for the Sky and the T989 do not support this (maybe trying to move folks to Google Talk..do not need that)..neither does the orig
SGS2 anyway
Even have a TMob rom set up for this device with all the above except Vis Vmail..even fixed in-call volume using I727 library files..
wonder what folks are complaining about..do not care 4G LTE all that stuff..it is fast no matter what..
however .lost 70$ because of this Exynos nonsense (in my opinion)..35 restocking fee to return and 35 to change from Sky to org SGS2 back to Sky..my loss the hard way.
I am not sure why everyone is freaking out on throttling. The SR is a nice device and I have seen no problems with the chipset other than some graphics like the default homescreen image and the boot image being slower than normal. This is no different than when new GPUs come out and all the benchmark apps and drivers have to be updated/optimized for the new hardware. Throttling only comes into play IF you are on an UNLIMITED data plan and you hit the top 5% of all other users on an unlimited data plan. For me around here, the throttling SMS came in last month at at about 6.5GB of usage but I never was throttled after using about another 1GB.
The SR is a nice device that I plan on sticking with until the quads hit.
My only complaint with Samsung in general is their damn bootloader code. But then again the laughs will be on those GS II owners as well once they update. hehehe. That would be a mute point if carriers listened to customers and actually gave them what they want or actually use vs. trying to force things down our throats. In my opinion custom ROMs beat carrier ROMs for one main reason - flexibility. Those authors usually remove the crapola and add back features the carriers like to remove.
Ill never return mine unless it breaks. Phone is too nice

Personally, I find spending $749 vs. $0.01 for something very marginal a little over the top, to be honest. In fact, I would not even consider getting a phone locked to 3G speeds even a marginal gain considering that it does not have any storage expansion. I would regard this as a downgrade. But different strokes for different folks, I guess. Yes, it runs ICS but the Skyrocket would be running this in a few months. In addition, as this is not a phone supported by a major carrier, it would not sell into millions and it would not create the accessory and development support that carrier phones would definitely have.
Now, regarding Android 4.0 vs 2.6.6. ICS is nice but not that nice. It really would not affect much of the functionality of the phone. What does one want to do that cannot be accomplished well in 2.6.6? I cannot think of much. Wow, now you would get to customize the bottom row of the icons and have resizeable gadgets and few more goodies. You would be bored with this in a day or two. Not worth the hassle. I simply concentrate on the functionality that I need.
Now, what I need is good OS-based voice dialing. That is not available even on ICS.

Undecided MotorolaRazr, S2 SkyRocket, S2 I9100 or Motorola Photon 4G which is Better?

Hi, i sold my Atrix 4g a few days ago not because it was bad but because i wanted a bigger screen. I'm about to buy a new phone but now im undecided between the 3 phones i mention on the title. I'v been reading a lot about the specs and i see that are pretty much the same but it's always better to ask the ppl that already own the device for an advice, so which one is really the best? or ill get the same speeds from any of them?
If you didn't post this in the forums of the other phones you mentioned you must already be leaning toward the skyrocket. Go for it.
Well the skyrocket looks pretty awsome i cant lie about that, i mean 4.5 inch display with super amoled plus is WOW the only thing that makes me wonder about it is the resolution, which is 800x480 and the razr is 960x540 but it has a 4.3 inch display
Ergonomics are better on the skyrocket, IMO.

What do u mean by "Ergonomics"? ill be using the phone mostly to browse, play games and watch a few videos (aside the obvious phone calls and texting)
I love the look of the razor, but the superamoled is nice as hell. The feel of the skyrocket is much smoother too. It really up to you though. Hold each phone in your hand first.
First of all you shouldn't have sold your Atrix. Just saying.
The RAZR is nice but doesn't meet the Skyrockets standard. The Photon 4G is basically the Atrix for Sprint with a bigger screen but no laptop dock. The Skyrocket is a well rounded device with a ton of power. If thin is your thing get the RAZR, although I don't think its much thinner than the SGS2 SR and you'll compromise by going to Verizon and Motorola's locked bootloaders. Each one is gonna have their downfalls, ie. BLUR or TouchWiz. I just recently bought a Skyrocket and love it. I also came from an Atrix (which I still have). So in a nutshell get the Skyrocket, you'll be happy.

I'm going to have to say i9100. Best dev support. And it's an amazing phone.
Though really... I'd say wait for a quad-core phone.

So you guys means the s2 is better than the skyrocket?
Not a chance, skyrocket is king. Nothing beats S3 at 1.5... for now. Quad core is on the way, but I recommend skyrocket if your provider has LTE. If not, I guess 9100 is ok
Get the Galaxy note.

I went the same road.. and my advice is:
I did the very same road, Sold my Atrix 4G cause wanter a bigger screen.
Purchased the Photon, used it a couple of months, give it to my wife, and purchased a SkyRocket for me. Yet, I went to a Verizon store before to play with the Razr (a lot of play), these are my conclusions:
My ideal phone between all of them: the Photon.
If you want faster updates, go for the Razr BUT, it doesn't feel good in the hand, it is not charming good, too much space for the vezel.
The Skyrocket is a fast phone, faster than the Photon, (about 10%) and it carries less weight BUT, the Touch Wizard interface is garbage, the Icons are just too big, the original font is too big also.
Also, the screen resolution is by far, better in the Photon.
With the Photon you need to go to Sprint, with the Skyrocket to Att, right now, the Wimax coverage of Wimax is better than the LTE coverage of Att.
The Blur interface of the Photon is better than TW from Samsung. Also, updates normally are faster in Moto than in Samsung, with the added problem that updates tipically fail in the Skyrocket cause they come from servers in ATT that are normally busy (see the other threads).
After using the Skyrocket for some weeks you will get used to it, but you will miss a lot the Moto experience.
The only downside I see with Motorola (main reason I moved to Samsung) is that I needed to change my phones 4 times before getting a good working one.
I switched 2 Atrix Gs, and 1 Atrix 2, after that the Photon was awesome.
Still you can download adw launcher to the Skyrocket and do a heavy customization (save a backup after that) and you will come to terms with the phone, so at the end both phones will be ok. I wont go for the S2 1900 given the fact the Skyrocket is a faster phone and comes with LTE.
After all of these, this is subjetive, but I still think the Photon is a better device overall.
By ergonomics I mean the rounded corners of the skyrocket vs the more squarish/blocky feel of the razr. I think the skyrocket feels better to hold.

u didn't state y, merely stated small suvjective stuff that u itself acknowledged can be changed. With android phones, never compare OS stuff, becuz all that can be changed. Physical attributes only, including specs and actual asethics of device becuz if someone wants android, they'll get it, regardless of device
Since you're planning to use it abroad, I doubt AT&T's LTE would work. It's a toss-up between the Skyrocket and i9100, depending on whether you want the bigger screen. Even though the i9100 is only 1.2Ghz, it's been proven faster than the 1.5Ghz Qualcomm in the Skyrocket.
If there was an international version of the Razr Maxx, I would consider that. The battery is gigantic w/o adding much thickness.
Otherwise, my vote is for the S2 (i9100 or Skyrocket). Even though the resolution is lower, the screen is still more crisp (in terms of colors) than both Motorolas.
