CM7 question on the radio unlocked - General Questions and Answers

well hello my question is r simple, i want to know if the rom CM7's post with the radio unlocked i can use for the Droid Pro, but for the European version because here we use GSM / HSDPA

Changing ROM's does not affect the frequencies that the radio uses, nor does it render your phone unlocked for use overseas.

Positive. It is more evident in the united states since we deal with carriers and different frequencies and such. My T-mobile branded phone was rooted, running CM7. If I used an AT&T sim card, it would ask for an unlock code. I got my unlock code from HTC and with an AT&T sim I am only able to use 2G speeds due to different frequencies for 3G and 4G. You can change your radio, but not the frequencies that the radio utilizes.
One quick alibi though. There are some root methods, such as the G-free method, that can sim unlock your phone.

then I can put the rom, but my problem would be the frequencies used by radio stations? there is some method to this?

It is not so much an issue for you because companies overseas use the same frequencies...you just wouldnt be able to purchase a sprint, tmobile or verizon branded phone..

Make sure your Radio says xx.xxxxWU at the end.
Sprint phones are not unlocked for us carriers.

That's half true.
What Diamond_dawg says is 100% correct in respect to the SIM lock.
Sprint TP2 devices do NOT ship with a SIM lock. The phone will accept any SIM card without issue (even those of North American GSM carriers). There is no specific block on ATT/TMO SIM cards.
What Sprint does do is ship a gimped radio ROM on the devices. By default the Sprint radio has the NA GSM frequencies disabled, effectively making it a dual-band device. Or, comparing it to a computer, the "driver support" for 850/1900 simply isn't there.
You don't need to SIM unlock a Sprint TP2, they come that way by default. You do need to security unlock it however, so you can flash a radio ROM with full quad-band support.
Verizon phones are the opposite. They ship with a SIM lock, but have a quad-band radio ROM installed by default.
Interesting....

What exactly is the point of SIM Unlocking?

I was just wondering what the point of doing this is? Like is it just so I could use like the Verizon CDMA network or what?
I have the Sprint Rhodium400 and its STOCK radio version is 2.32.00.WU, so I mean according to what I read this is unlocked.
anyway, I was just wondering what if any point doing the Security Unlock has for me?
the SIM unlock is to use it on US GSM networks such as ATT and TMobile, it doesnt allow it to work on other CDMA networks like Verizon
Oh ok, thanks for the heads up on that one.
Good looking out (I was wondering about that for the longest time)

If your radio says WU that means that you can use any GSM sim card (not CDMA) on any network w ur phone. Security unlock - HSPL will let you flash your phone with custom roms. You can find more info about HSPL by following thread by OLIPRO. Of course thank him for his work. Have fun flashing.
FYI... Do not flash your phone w CDMA roms.

This is not true. The stock radio in verizon roms has a wu but all sims are locked minus the stock vodaphone sim. The locked sim does not have to do with the radio on the verizon tp2.

first. he has sprint..
second. verizon doesnt have wu.. unless you flash it w one (stock is always wv)
i do give you credit cuz i did not know that wu may still be locked.
no hard feelings.

The Sprint TP2 has no SIM lock in the system, but the radio ROM is lacking support for the US bands. So while the Sprint TP2 will accept any SIM it will not get a SIGNAL in North America unless you pay for the security unlock and apply a patched radio.
The Verizon TP2 HAS a SIM lock in the system, but the radio ROM has full support for the US bands. So if you just want to use a SIM card, then all you need to do is get an unlock code from Verizon.
Both version radios have support for Euro bands.
Default behaviour:
Sprint = Use any SIM you want, but only get a signal in Europe and Japan when in GSM mode.
Verizon = Can't use *any* SIM except Verizon until you unlock, but to unlock you can do it by requesting a free code from Verizon CS.
so u can use ur phone on a different network (phones with sim cards obviously)

Yes. Once unlocked, you can switch the phone to GSM mode and use any GSM SIM card.
I do have Sprint (The Rhodium400).
It has been HSPL Unlocked for about 6 or 7 weeks now, just was curious about the Radio unlocking stuff (as I have never messed around with it).
I have already run the gauntlet of the various Custom ROMs out there. All (well most of) them seemed to be very VERY well built, however none seemed to suit me to quite 100%, so I have been working on my own for about 3 weeks now give or take.
It is a slow going process (mainly due to working so much), but it is very fun and a learning experience none the less. Looking forward to the day it is finished (So that I can start on the next one, lol).

..also thought I read somewhere in CMONEX thread a recap saying if unlocking sprint radio/SIM you'd be able to use Verizon towers... (will look for post & put hyperlink here soon)
also, from ppc/cmonex sticky:
BIG NOTE: if you have the Sprint branded TP2, then after running this SIM/Sec Unlocker, you'll need to flash a patched sprint radio (in other thread) to finish the process.
... sprint is a Security (CID) unlocker, which needs unlocking first, then a "patched" (unlocked?) sprint radio also...

The reason that Sprint disabled the (NA bands) is because the Sprint TP2 (unlike the VZW TP2) is SIM unlocked from the factory. The VZW TP2 ships with full band support, but it is SIM locked from the factory.
"
Guess I'd just make it simple: Sprint needs a band enabler - 850/1900 (security unlocker?) & then a radio that works on it... (patched WU)
So I have Sprint service on my TP2.. if I unlocked it would I be able to receive a call from either network or do I have to manually select one and swap back and forth?
I can understand having a default outgoing radio (choosing CDMA or GSM).. but it'd be more useful to have the ability to take make use of both lines..

you would have to switch back and forth
and of course have a SIM card from a GSM provider like ATT or T-Mobile

[Q]Advantage of flashing a new radio when using a different carrier SIM??

1.) Once you have perm root and flash a custom rom you can use any SIM from any carrier correct?
I had a HTC Inspire from AT&T and running a custom rom put in a Tmobile SIM card and it worked but I had terrible reception.
2.) I also have a HTC Sensation from Tmobile that I just recently rooted and it wouldn't work with my At&t SIM. I understand this is due to the Tmobile rom on the phone and to have the at&t SIM work I'd need a custom rom or unlock the sim right?
I've read some about SuperCID but I understand that is only if you want to run another carriers rom (exp: run a european carriers standard sensation rom on a tmobile sensation) Is this correct?
3.) My main question is that since a phone's radio deals with how it interacts with wifi, gps and the carriers network wouldn't using a tmobile radio with a at&t SIM always give crappy performance and is there anything I can do about this? At&t doesn't have a radio for the sensation. Or am i looking at this all wrong?
Thank you for your help!
AT&T and T-mobile run off of different frequencies. The frequencies the phone uses does not change with the radio. When using a T-mobile phone with an AT&T SIM, you are only going to get edge (2G) speeds, and vice versa.
There is nothing to be done about this? Edge might as well be no data at all :/

Nope, nothing that can be done. There are some pentaband phones out that will get 3G/4G on both...galaxy nexus, and versions of the evo 3d and optimus 3d.

[Q] (Q) Intresting thing does anyone know that?

This question is from ppl where they have no carrier boundation but all ppl can give their opinion Can i buy a android smartphone from a carrier based company like at&t or t-mobile and bring it to my own country where is no carrier boundation and get the phone rooted/unlocked will it be able to run normally like other phones/unlocked phones? I'm asking this coz i live in a non-carrier bound country, cost of unlocked/sim free phone is 550$ and carrier bound is 150$. Now even the dumbest would had understanded why im asking it Plz answer this coz i dont know it. Thanx in adv.
Yes if you can get it unlocked it will work just like an unbranded phone. You have to be careful with the frequency bands though. T-mobile uses the 1700 band which isn't prevelant overseas. AT&T phones work well all over the world, as they use the same bands as most other GSM networks. Verizon and Sprint use CDMA instead of GSM, so they would be useless for you.

Thanks for ur response btw in my country 900/1800 band is used. Can u tell me specifically other than cdma network which carrier uses this type of bandwidth?

Ordered ATT S8+ SM-G955UZKAATT

Will this be the same hardware as other carriers like the S7's were? I was reading that T-Mobiles new band 66 will be usable(unused frequency) on the S8's. If Tmobile ever works in my area I would like to know if I can flash TMO firmware on my device or U firmware to my device like you could on S7's. On S7's you could go between cdma and gsm carriers with a flash Anyone have a link to network specs of S8's?

root is completely a lost cause and will never happen most likely on any AT&T samsung device
I never mentioned root, wrong post?
You dont need root to flash firmware in odin

They will all be exactly the same. There will be only one model in the US. If you sim unlock, and switch sims, do a factory reset, it will boot with the new carriers boot screen and bloat. Currently testing S8 and had mine locked to Att, but switched to Tmobile

Any place you can point to that confirms in writing the carrier variants all aupport the same bands? The carrier websites all show different band support from what ive found so far.

I do not, I looked as well. When I asked about my Att phone booting up with T-mobile boot after unlock and Sim swap, I was told it was called one sku. I have see att to T-mobile swap as well as Verizon to Att. Even though my device was locked to att, i can connect to new lte u network.
