That's half true.
What Diamond_dawg says is 100% correct in respect to the SIM lock.
Sprint TP2 devices do NOT ship with a SIM lock. The phone will accept any SIM card without issue (even those of North American GSM carriers). There is no specific block on ATT/TMO SIM cards.
What Sprint does do is ship a gimped radio ROM on the devices. By default the Sprint radio has the NA GSM frequencies disabled, effectively making it a dual-band device. Or, comparing it to a computer, the "driver support" for 850/1900 simply isn't there.
You don't need to SIM unlock a Sprint TP2, they come that way by default. You do need to security unlock it however, so you can flash a radio ROM with full quad-band support.
Verizon phones are the opposite. They ship with a SIM lock, but have a quad-band radio ROM installed by default.

I have heard reports that the GSM in the US doesn't work. Also, the FCC filings state there is a lock to prevent this from happening. I really hope someone can find a crack soon so I can use the Sprint TP2 on ATT.
However, I have heard some people getting the Telus version unlocked to work on GSM.
i'm interested in this as well - i've got a work cell that's got a tmo sim and would love to be able to pop the tmo sim in my tp2 and be able to select somehow which phone #/network the phone call comes from

Well, you can already select GSM, CDMA, or Auto on the phone. The only problem is to unlock the firmware so US GSM sim cards will work. Hoping Olipro or cmonex have something up their sleeves.
I just got off the phone with Telus and what they told me is that they are releasing ANOTHER TP2 on the GSM network and that I would have to buy another phone TP2 just to get onto the GSM network.
This being said, is there any way to modify the radio signal in my CDMA phone to read both CDMA and GSM, or atleast get more speed out of my phone for connectivity to the net?

I just got off the phone with HTC and the lady I spoke with told me, that to change the radio frequency I just had to change the ROM. That being said IF, I put a Telus HSPA ROM on there the phone should be capable of working on the network. Now that being said. If this is possible would it not be possible to run on both networks, CDMA and HSPA, making the signal control software dependent, meaning I have CDMA controls for standard phone calls and HSPA for running the highspeed network?

Eazy, just HardSPL and security unlock your radio bro...Only then you can use the GSM networks in your country (I'm guessing it's US)
But you can only activate one at a time. Either GSM only or CDMA only..CMIIW..

I have this phone on Telus...I got it unlocked and I put my work sim card in this phone and it's on rogers. I switch networks when necessary....If you get a Telus sim card you would be able to use it GSM.
You should be able to pick which network you use. I saw it in phone settings, I think.

TELUS does not provide GSM at all. They are CDMA and UMTS.
So does this mean its possible. If i have a CDMA Sprint HTC Touch pro 2. That i have the potential of using it on At&t in the US?? All i have to do is unlock it?? Any information would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks!!

So Telus new 3G network is not GSM? It does have drop down menu showing "Send SMS over" GMS and CDMA. GSM is selected by default.

the SIM unlock is to use it on US GSM networks such as ATT and TMobile, it doesnt allow it to work on other CDMA networks like Verizon

If your radio says WU that means that you can use any GSM sim card (not CDMA) on any network w ur phone. Security unlock - HSPL will let you flash your phone with custom roms. You can find more info about HSPL by following thread by OLIPRO. Of course thank him for his work. Have fun flashing.
FYI... Do not flash your phone w CDMA roms.

This is not true. The stock radio in verizon roms has a wu but all sims are locked minus the stock vodaphone sim. The locked sim does not have to do with the radio on the verizon tp2.

Yes. Once unlocked, you can switch the phone to GSM mode and use any GSM SIM card.
I do have Sprint (The Rhodium400).
It has been HSPL Unlocked for about 6 or 7 weeks now, just was curious about the Radio unlocking stuff (as I have never messed around with it).
I have already run the gauntlet of the various Custom ROMs out there. All (well most of) them seemed to be very VERY well built, however none seemed to suit me to quite 100%, so I have been working on my own for about 3 weeks now give or take.
It is a slow going process (mainly due to working so much), but it is very fun and a learning experience none the less. Looking forward to the day it is finished (So that I can start on the next one, lol).

..also thought I read somewhere in CMONEX thread a recap saying if unlocking sprint radio/SIM you'd be able to use Verizon towers... (will look for post & put hyperlink here soon)

So I have Sprint service on my TP2.. if I unlocked it would I be able to receive a call from either network or do I have to manually select one and swap back and forth?
I can understand having a default outgoing radio (choosing CDMA or GSM).. but it'd be more useful to have the ability to take make use of both lines..

you would have to switch back and forth
and of course have a SIM card from a GSM provider like ATT or T-Mobile
well hello my question is r simple, i want to know if the rom CM7's post with the radio unlocked i can use for the Droid Pro, but for the European version because here we use GSM / HSDPA
Changing ROM's does not affect the frequencies that the radio uses, nor does it render your phone unlocked for use overseas.

Positive. It is more evident in the united states since we deal with carriers and different frequencies and such. My T-mobile branded phone was rooted, running CM7. If I used an AT&T sim card, it would ask for an unlock code. I got my unlock code from HTC and with an AT&T sim I am only able to use 2G speeds due to different frequencies for 3G and 4G. You can change your radio, but not the frequencies that the radio utilizes.
One quick alibi though. There are some root methods, such as the G-free method, that can sim unlock your phone.

It is not so much an issue for you because companies overseas use the same frequencies...you just wouldnt be able to purchase a sprint, tmobile or verizon branded phone..

They will all be exactly the same. There will be only one model in the US. If you sim unlock, and switch sims, do a factory reset, it will boot with the new carriers boot screen and bloat. Currently testing S8 and had mine locked to Att, but switched to Tmobile

Any place you can point to that confirms in writing the carrier variants all aupport the same bands? The carrier websites all show different band support from what ive found so far.

I do not, I looked as well. When I asked about my Att phone booting up with T-mobile boot after unlock and Sim swap, I was told it was called one sku. I have see att to T-mobile swap as well as Verizon to Att. Even though my device was locked to att, i can connect to new lte u network.
