How do you switch to custom bootanimations when you have a theme that allows custom bootanimations?
I read before that some need to be named bootanim.zip but not sure. If some one can help with what it needs to be names and where to put the file..
Thank you in advance for any help...

When i was using darky I had to rename the bootanimation.zip file to sanim.zip
I had them named bootanimation.zip and it doesn't work. I'm gonna try Sabin.zip. I did it in data/local and media

Figured I would share... No credit but to original poster.. No blame if you break..
Its not a custom, but cooler than pink .
Korean stock boot animation.. I just extracted and pasted. THE FLASH IS FOR VIBRANT... WILL NOT WORK FOR SGS 4G..
Just copy/replace .qmg files to /system/media and enjoy.

Sooo can it be flashes with cwm???

Nah, I'm not even sure. I just extracted the files and dropped them in system/media. Just make sure you back up the old qmg files in case you don't like them.

I think it will try and replace the shut down animation with
.png files...

do we throw meta-inf in there or just system/media
I just unzipped and used root explorer (or whatever you use) to move/copy/replace the 2 .qmg files from extracted location to the phone's system/media folder.
Bootsamsung.qmg & bootsamsungloop.qmg
EDIT: I tried to flash, and it wont let... so, I just ripped out the the files... just rename and remove the .bak...
I would like to know where the bootanimation.zip should be put, and do dr honks cwm kernels work with bootanimation.zip?
Thanks
If the bootanimation.zip isn't for gs4g it wont work but u can extract the bootloop and boot animation files and push it into systems/ media

I am trying to make a bootanimation.zip using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=862537 but when i put it in system\media, all i get is a black screen.
The phone only recognises .qmg files for boot you can't put a zip in there

Is there any rom or kernel that supports bootanimation.zip?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
The current GB roms don't support bootanimation.zip but the froyo ones above kb5 or with drhonks kernel does.

I have Eagleblood 2.5 with faux123 .46 kernel and I wanted to apply the stock g2x bootanimation and sound but i cant get the sound to work. The bootanimation works and the audio is in the /system/media/audio/poweron folder but its still not working. Is there a boot file that fetches the bootanimation and sounds on boot? Any help would be awesome!
Note: there was no bootanimation sound in the Eagleblood 2.5 rom so there was no /poweron file
Install morfic's T15 kernel and it will place the poweron folder for you ...you then can revert back to faux's kernel and the folder will still be there...then you can copy and paste your poweron.ogg file... make sure the audio file is named poweron.ogg...

OK thanks ill give that a shot and yea the file is named poweron.ogg

Thanks, i but i guess i shouldve been clearer on my question. Im on cm10 now, and i want to add an audio clip to go along with the animation. Cm10 doesnt have anything in the system/media or system/etc folder like boot_audio.mp3 or poweron. Wav
I wanted to use the cyantone ringtone, so i took the .ogg and converted it to mp3 and renamed it boot_audio.mp3 and dropped it in system/media folder but it didnt work.

You should have Root Explorer or another file explorer. Your bootanimations are located in System/media folder. The animation will either be sanim.zip or bootanimation.zip. In Root Toolbox you have to go into settings to change where it installs the bootanimation.

^ This... And to add... It might not be a bad idea to replace/add both sanim.zip and bootanimation.zip into that folder... Some kernels use sanim.zip and some use the bootanimation.zip... If you just replace the one and then flash a different kernel, you may get the original animation.
The majority of the boot animations in ROMs/Kernels are going to be "bootanimation.zip" as said by bigfau under system/media directory. But in some cases "sanim.zip"
