I have the apk for the kindle fire (Google it) and after installing it force closes.
I just want to see if it worked. Anyone else want to try and maybe make it work?

So I tried to get a couple of the Apps from the Asus Transformer working on my Xoom but I can't seem to get them working.
The Transformer and Xoom are both odex'd, so I didn't think it'd be an issue getting them to work. I tried the MyWater live wallpaper, and the Weather widget from the transformer. I copied them both to /system/app along with the .odex files and changed the permissions to what they are supposed to be via Root Explorer, but no go.
Does anyone have any insight? Is it possible?
Would it be tied to the framework like some have said people think there is a skin on it I have no idea but it could be possible anyone wanna give it a go?

Ok i want to first start by saying i like ios and android and by no means do i like ios better but i have an ipad and a droid x.......
But i was wondering if espier launcher works*which is pretty awesome on my droid x because it has widgets now* with the kindle fire if anyone would try it out i would love to no secondly i would like to no if v launcher works on the kindle fire(which is the launcher i would love to have on my fire) i am hoping my kindle comes in the mail tomorrow bought one on ebay saturday if anyone can answer my questions i would love to no.
I'm not familiar with those launchers, but either should work if you sideload them onto the Kindle.
First, enable the installation of non-market applications (under the devices section in settings)
The easiest way to do this would then be to find the apk's that you want on-line, transfer them to your Kindle via USB (or e-mail), and then install them using ES File Explorer.
I tried the Espier Launcher, it was very smooth and works fine, I just don't like the iphone-ish style.
Here is a solution many people are desperately in need of for the Kindle Fire. This is a side loaded .APK that DOES NOT require Rooting! The ever changing lock screen/wallpaper is obviously annoying to the vest majority of us. I have found two apps that can take care of this. They appear to be very similar but one is in (a) Google Play[Market] and the (b) other is freely available on the web with no login necessary and explains to the novice how to install in simple terms and pictures.
a) Wallpaper Change Kindle Fire by DPAPPS - (Google Play / Android Market)
and
b) My Kindle Wallpaper - to find it, Google --> "kindlecooltricks wordpress" and it was the 3rd in the list as of this posting. You should be able to easily find it.
Now to get everyone started, here are 20 desktop picture. What can you make and share ?
Here are a few more....
Enjoy and let me know what you think of the pictures and programs; as well as how it is working for you?
Thanks for the app suggestion. Happen to have pics zipped?

Here all the wallpapers ZIPed up.
Here is the link to (a) & (b), not sure if it will post....

Thanks. I'm using My Kindle Wallpaper (the second one linked) and it's getting the job done.
thank you for this! i was getting so tired of the wallpapers that come on the kindle. Now everyday I just choose which one I want, and they are the perfect size!
None of them used my selected picture on 6.3,

Used the method you suggested and it worked. I kinda have a question, for a split second when I wake my KF, the default wallpapers that are built into the device show up before the ones I've saved for the DPAPP application. Is there a way that I can completely shut off the default ones?

thanks been looking into this for so long will have to put on my mother inlaws kindle tonight
sweet switching!
Great app! Someone earlier had tried to change my wallpaper to some crazy pic using settings, except this app automatically switched it back to my selection--I never even noticed the change; this is nice, people can't prank my paper! Unless they used this app/kinda obscure anywho
VERY appreciative, thanks for the post
dpapps didnt work for me at first as the pictures were all too big even at 1024x600 resolution.
i solved the issue by removing go launcher ex and then it worked
i then reinstalled go launcher and it still works great
apparently go launcher ex changed the default wallpaper settings on both sides of my kindle, the carousel and go launcher. hopefully this helps anyone experiencing the same issue
My Kindle Wallpaper is working great! My eyes thank you!

Hello I am very new to rooting and coding so please be patient with me.
I had rooted my kindle using Root Junky and everything is successful and running. Google play store/apps work fine but when I try adding a widget to my launcher (I use Atom Launcher) it takes me to settings and when I go back the widget is gone. I saw another thread about this (wasn't sure if it was ok to ask a new question on someone else's thread) and they said it was working fine on a different launcher so I tried Nova and Google Launcher and it did the same thing. The thread also said to use a /system/app but that app said I apparently don't have root access even though it was clearly rooted. I would really prefer not to re root as it'll take forever to re-install all my apps and re-customize just for widgets. Is there any way to fix this? Or if I do re-root will all my apps still be there? Sorry if that's a silly question. Again, I'm very new to this lol.

Hi,
Thanks for using XDA Assist.
Can you be more specific about the device you have and I'll try to point you in the right direction.

From what I've seen it's a bit tricky to change the launcher.
There's a discussion about that here
> Amazon Fire HD 8 and HD 10 > Fire HD 8 and HD 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting > Changing Launcher?
Feel free to post in that thread. Your tablet doesn't have a big development community behind it so give people some time to respond to your posts.
Good luck
I recently got a new 2019 Kindle HD 10 and started setting it up. I have been able to get Google Play and Nova Launcher successfully installed without any issue. Everything has been working great but I am unable to do something that I was able to do with my older Kindle Fire HD: add shortcuts to the Home Screen.
Previously on a 2017? HD 10, I was able to add shortcuts from Chrome right to the desktop. I was also able to add a book's shortcut from Moon+ Reader right to the Home Screen. But now, neither of these things seem to work. I am not exactly sure what's the issue that is preventing this from happening. App permissions? Newer version of Fire OS? A setting within Nova Launcher? I Googled the issue and found someone mention this was due to the OS version being higher but I haven't found any real confirmation on this anywhere else.
Does anyone have an idea of why I can't do this - and is there any workarounds for this feature?
Thanks,
TB

You must disable Amazon's crappy launcher
Code:
adb shell pm disable-user com.amazon.firelauncher

Yep, already did this using the Toolkit (14.2). I have Nova Launcher set as my default launcher and have even restarted to see if that cleared anything in memory. Still nothing. I have even gone back in and run the command again from the Toolkit to no avail. I keep checking permissions on the Kindle but I obviously haven't found the solution ... yet.
Take care,
TB
I had widget support allready activated with toolkit but no option to add a shortcut to Nova Launcher in Chrome and gdrive. I don't no why but suddenly the option appears in drive an chrome app.
Same problem here, configured with fire toolbox to use nova launcher, and widgets work but shortcuts don't.
So... I installed "Shortcut Maker" app, and created widgets that are shortcuts on the desktop. I even made some use chrome and some use Firefox, works great. I'm guessing there are other similar app choices but this solved my problem.
Note that when it first starts it says it can't make shortcuts, to try widgets, and that worked.
As usual ymmv, but did exactly what I needed.
