I subscribed to otterbox for details as to when we would be able to buy a case for our phones, and today I finally got the message.... http://www.otterbox.com/samsung-galaxy-s-2-skyrocket-cases/samsung-galaxy-s-2-skyrocket-cases,default,sc.html http://www.otterbox.com/samsung-galaxy-s-2-skyrocket-cases/samsung-galaxy-s-2-skyrocket-cases,default,sc.html
the prices are not too bad either..the only truly pricey one is the one with the clip (which I am getting)...but they are running a sale today for 15% off and a 5% donation to troops! bought my defender series today...hope it don't take too long to ship!
They have been out a couple of weeks now

I went to the Otterbox site yesterday looking for a Defender. When I first clicked on the Defender for Skyrocket link, I saw an "add to cart" link. During the page load, it disappeared and the "click here and we'll email you when it's available" link showed up. Tried several times to try to get the add2cart link again but could not. Put in my email address and got the email today that it was available. I'm not behind any proxy either. Odd that it would show that if it has been available for a few days...

Or, if you don't mind a little added thickness, there's the PowerSkin. Basically doubles the battery life, and it's Lithium-Polymer =O.......
For the price of an Otterbox, you can get one of these for $20 more on Amazon.
For fock sake, will an admin PLEASE verify me so I can post links. XDA -- stop the fascism.
Yep. I saw them at corp stores a week ago. Are they quality?
I got my skyrocket the day before Thanksgiving at the AT&T store and the Otterbox Defender case at the same time...

I bought the Powerskin when I got the phone. It does add bulk to the phone but what is really annoying is that the Skyrocket thinks it's plugged into a dock. The dock screen comes up automatically and all calls get answered in speaker phone mode. You have to switch the call back to handset once you answer the call.
The skyrocket doesn't exhibit this behavior when I connect and external battery like tbe Zagg Spark or a Brookstone external battery.
So far I have not been able to stop the dock mode from launching.

Too bad this case doesn't have the kickstand like the pop case did for the S2 - Don't know why they opted to not have one for a phone with such a large screen.. Oh well...

I'm guessing you haven't watched the demo vids for the Defender series case.
The belt clip also functions as the kickstand.
At least it better or I will raise hell for false advertising.
I thought this too but for the life of me could not figure out how it worked.

It seems odd, like it locks when you open the belt clip so far.
Hopefully it works well and doesn't create issues.

I received my defender this week, and while I'm very happy with the quality of the case, the "stand" included with the belt clip leaves a lot to be desired. When I lock it open and try to stand the phone up in landscape orientation, it falls flat on it's face, as it isn't tilted back far enough to get over it's own center of gravity. Laying it down in landscape works, but that doesn't put it at much of an angle.
The same goes for using the stand in portrait mode - it falls backwards, instead.
That said, I love everything else about the case. It doubles the size of the phone, and adds a bit of weight, but for my giant hands and butterfingers it's perfect. The silicone is grippy but not sticky, and although I haven't dropped it yet, I'm confident that the case will protect its precious cargo when I inevitably do.
*edit:
Everything I wrote above is wrong. I had the clip vertical when I tried to use the stand, as I keep the phone in landscape orientation when its clipped too my belt. It turns out that if you put the clip "sideways" as if you were going to clip the phone to your belt in portrait mode, and then lock it open, it works perfectly in landscape mode.
And I just double checked the portrait mode stability: it seems that the phone will stand up on the coffee table in front of me, but its still precarious. Touching the top half of the screen causes it to topple backwards.

I got the Defender at when I got the Gtab 8.9 LTE and free Skyrocket. Told my rep I wasn't paying $50 and she discounted it 25% which was better but I wanted her to give it to me free considering I was dropping $500 on the Gtab.
I like the case but it isn't nearly as rugged as my Ballistic case for my Infuse but it is significantly smaller than the Ballistic. I just realized that the clip on the back was for propping it up. I was wondering why it clipped open??? Duh! Anyway I took a couple of pics for those of you on the fence about this case I like it and it seems like it will definitely protect the phone adequately. The rubber surround is a real pain to put back on properly that was the only glaring thing.

It's TOO TIGHT! Yes, it fits on the phone without a problem BUT the button inside of it that is used to press on the power button pushes all the time, causing the phone to reboot.
I've got it sitting on the dash of my truck today to warm up a little, maybe it will stretch then and I will try it while it's warm.
If not, I may have to alter it a little by cutting out the nub that's inside of the button section of the case.
weird... Im using a smoke argyle TPU case for the vibrant on my SGS4G with perfect fitment. and it looks super cool with the shimmering backplate.
Works fine now that I let it sit in the sun a few hours!

Perhaps Gel case was the wrong name for it... Not sure... it may be TPU...
If you go into the T-Mobile store it's somewhat of a rasberry color up top then fading down to black at the bottom.
Had the same problem with mine. Even my friend who is a manager at the T-Mobile store said that the raspberry cover had that issue. I liked the cover so I'm going to try and trim that area down a bit on the inside.
Let me know how it turns out. I ended up taking the case off because I was worried about wearing out the power button. I couldn't even tell it was pushing in when I had the case on.
Yea I'll stick to my bodyglove kickstand case. My wife has one of those skins/shells and I can't stand it as I can't touch the edge of the screen.

Went into Best Buy today to have a Zagg replaced. Saw the case and was excited as this is just what I was looking for. Then the nightmare began. I also picked up a desktop cradle at my local ATT store. When I got home I tried to take off the case with no luck. I tried for thirty minutes to work the case and get it off. I tried to get a screw driver under the part where they click together but no matter what I did it would not come off.
I drove 40 miles back to the Best Buy because the only way I could figure to get the case off was to break it and I was also afraid that I might damage my phone and I did not want the responsibility if I did. Best Buy spent 30 minutes with everyone all the way up to the Geek Sqad trying to get the darn thing off. They finally had to pull up the sides and pop it off. It messed up the Zagg and they had to replace it. Luckily it did not hurt the phone. Best guess as to what happened was that the Zagg was not completely dry when I put the case on and it suctioned to the case when it dried. Never the less I got my money back and will try something else. They had the nerve to ask me why I wanted to take the case off!!!
The instructions are incorrect. Step 4 attached says to press B which is the short end. This only locks it tighter. PRESS A on the long end and it releases

I checked the Best Buy website and they only showed having this in Blue color. I was hoping to find it in Black. From the research I did online, I assume these Platinum Series cases are also made by Seidio, which also makes the Surface Series I'm considering getting. I had the Surface for the IPhone 3GS and it was close to perfect.

Yes they were wrong. When I got to the store I opened another case and saw they had it backwards. Still would not come off. I believe it had attached itself to the Zagg. My EVO case did come off like the instructions said I had not put the case on because they put it on at the store when I bought it.
I was able to get Best Buy to exchange my Evo case I bought last year for this one...not a bad case. It really isn't any harder to remove than the Evo case was, but I definitely wouldn't want to do it on a regular basis.

Are their any Skyrocket Dock chargers out their? I have searched high and low and can not find any...
I found a universal one online the other day that would be perfect.
Here it is:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sinjimoru-Sync-and-Charge-Dock-Stand-Samsung-Galaxy-S2-S-ll-Color-Black-/220855903037#ht_500wt_1180
I bought the spare battery system from Amazon.
Part: ET-CGPK004GSTA
Came with a NFC-capable Samsung battery and stand, I put my phone in portrait with it plugged in and can use the AirDroid application to send messages.
looking too
Since they put the usb port on the bottom, I am guessing they want to expand to have speakers, alarm clocks and everything else you can dock these phones in. I am guessing that companies that make this stuff will take a while to get these products out. I'm tired of seeing every type of docking station for iPods.
Hopefully there are making this location standard on all the new phones so it could be more universal to fit most android phones.
If anyone finds anything I hope they will post to this thread!

This looks VERY interesting. I have a flexible skin on my SR, and I don't want to take it off to charge it.....for $5 and shipping this could be a good solution for someone with a thin protective cover.
Yeah, thanks for posting that nexendz. I started a similar thread here with some other options but have yet to find something right. Right now I'm using a business card holder with some foam stick on pads as a stand with the stock charger, although that costs about the same as that Zenis dock.

Removed 3mm overall from the sides to fit case. Now fits the sides but didn't account for the back so it's a bit tight but I don't mind as it keeps it well seated. It is hollow behind the plastic so you will see the void behind it but since the phone will be in the stand it shouldn't matter, at least it's not white plastic painted black which would look worse.
Thanks!

Damn thing fell from my pocket, landed on its side and broke the LCD. The glass screen is fine, and everything works, boots up okay, just the LCD. Usually I keep my phone in an otter box. The otter box protected the s3 when it slid off the seat and flew out of my jeep on the freeway and bounced across the concrete at 55mph. I didn't think about putting it back in its case when I went down to clean the shop with the misses and the damn thing met its maker from 4' off the concrete.
Insurance is sending another one and I'm out $100 but the worst part is I have to use my wife's old Samsung fascinate like some kind of ****ing Neanderthal. Ugh...

It was still in the middle of the road.
No top, no doors on the heep. Sweeping left hand turn. Thing was sitting on the passenger seat, plugged in to the stereo. I went around the turn, saw it start to slip, reached down to grab it, ended up grabbing the cord and the cord popped out. Out the side she went!
I watched in horror in the rear view mirror the tumbles, flips, etc that the phone took. It was in the otterbox, in its holster as well when it hit the pavement. In the mirror, I watched it come apart in pieces. My heart sunk... That was it I thought.
I pulled off the road, and walked back. It was ~6am on a Saturday, I was on my way out to the bush to go hunt. The first piece was the clip to the holster... Then the holster... Then the phone itself lying face down. Ughhh
The rubber cover was peeled back from the phone. The hard plastic holster was mangled from hitting the pavement so many times. The rubber outside of the otterbox was pretty well scraped up too. I had to use my thumbnail to remove chunks of rocks from the rubber.
I could imagine the phone surviving that and didn't want to hit the button to unlock it. I walked all the way back to the heep before deciding to try it. I hit the home button and sure as ****, screen came on. Everything worked! There was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Honestly, I was shocked. I just watched this thing tumble, flip, roll, bounce over and over again, and it still works?
I went about my day, came home, told the story to my better half. She was shocked. We weren't sure about spending the money on the otterbox in the first place. The next day, I called otterbox and told them the story, just like I'm telling you. I also sent them an email with the pictures of the mangled holster, the scrapes on the soft rubber shell and the scratch in the screen cover. You know what she told me?
"Your otterbox is under warranty. I'd like to send you a new one. Would you like a different color this time?"
You've got to be ****ing kidding me.
They shipped me out a brand new, white otterbox to replace my scratched fell out the door of the heep on the freeway at 55mph cause I'm a moron black case. I didn't know anyone did business like that anymore.
So here I have two otter boxes. One mangled, but still functional. One brand new in their glacier color. The old mangled black one gets used for hunting and fishing, down in the shop when I'm working. The white one gets used when we go to town or anytime the phone won't be in harms way.
I'd been having a charging problem lately. ****in thing won't charge for ****. On a fresh battery pull, it'll charge no problem but any time on the battery and you plug it in, it's super slow. There's no wake lock or anything keeping the CPUs high according to bbs so I'm not sure what the issue is. I had just pulled the battery when the misses and I decided to go down and clean the shop.
First thing I pick up. Pulls down the front pocket of my jacket where the phone is sitting and.. You know the rest.
Tap'd
Sorry to hear that. Mine never comes out the otterbox. ...ever... best money I have ever spent

Which Otterbox did you have? Sounds like the defender since you mentioned the clip, but I'm just curious as I have the commuter. I haven't anything to really test out its capabilities yet.
Thanks for sharing that rather unique story.
Perhaps you might consider some sort of automobile mount for the phone, since you mentioned driving a car with no doors? No sense tempting fate again, I figure.

It is the defender. Makes it bulky as **** but protects well.

Yeah, you're right. I should.
Know of any that fit the otter box defender? Lol
I'm never taking my phone out of it again.

I tripped coming up my front steps and my S3 flew out of the breast pocket of my shirt. Corner of the phone hit my concrete stoop and it did a flip or two before ending up face down.
It bent the corner of the metal case a little and it has a few scrapes but otherwise it's fine. Nothing but an Invisible Shield on the screen. And that's all it'll ever have on it. Can't stand the bulk of cases like that.

The commuter isn't bulky at all...
Lucky you. I just got my refurb today but $150. Sprint though.

You don't need a vehicle mount when cup holders work just fine

I read some comments that an Arkon mobile mount for the Galaxy Note can accommodate a Galaxy S III in the Defender case. The nice iBolt mount can only handle a GS3 with the Commuter case.

Usually that's where I have it.
It was totally a bonehead moron ****ing move for me to leave it on the seat thinking it would stay there.. seriously. I still don't know wtf I was thinking.

LOL... Neanderthal.. that gave me a good laugh.
So I lost my phone out of my pocket while riding my bike. Sprinting approx 40km up a hill. It jumped out, hit the road. And slid into the bushes. Front of the phone looks new back has some pretty bad scratches. But everything is pretty much fine. No dents no marks on screen. Was in a dot view case. A few scratches on the case and they instantly separated when impacting the ground, which kind of sucked.
That's funny because this feels like the most fragile android I've owned in 5 years. Mainly because my first one lived in my pocket but the camera still managed to get scratched to the point to where it was hard to find a spot on it that wasn't scratched. Now I don't feel comfortable carrying my phone at work. I carried my s4 everywhere with me for a year and not one scratch on the camera lens. This is my first phone with a screen protector on the camera lens.
That is why I have an otter box and a really expensive, tough screen protector. If you're planning on biking with your phone loose in your pocket, you may want to invest in those also!

ya the dot view case is cool but hardly serves the purpose of an actual case.
Should be a criminal offense to use a case for this phone.
Try and get a pair of arms not growing out of one's behind so the droppage is minimized.

Right, because you've never dropped anything in your life.

Cases actually assist this phone in other ways than just protection. For one, they make the touchscreen less susceptible to undesired palm touches when using it one handed, and can hide the loose volume rocker issue many people have.

The trick is to get a clear case. That's what I did. Didn't want to cover up all that arctic silvery goodness. :good:
Oh, that and not to drop it....
I would suggest getting a case like this for biking.
Hyperion M8 Case
The phone is no longer slippery and won't fly out of your pocket.
I use it for mountain biking and it stays put no matter where I put the phone (shorts pocket, back of jersey, etc.)

It's just fine to spend money for your phone's protection. This is one of the nicest phones.

I agree on the camera screen. Mine has a couple scratches as well. Never had any other phone do that. However the rest of the phone is scratch free which is even more strange. What protector are you using on the camera screen? I think I'm going to get HTC to fix it then apply a protector to it.

It feel out of my sweater's pocket right onto the blacktop as I was getting out of my car. Minor scratches on top left and bottom right on the back side. Oh well. I'll have to be more careful.

I thought I had a ton of scratches on my lens,I would wipe it off with a soft cloth and they wouldn't wipe off. Well today while sitting bored I just took my sleeve and rubbed with some pressure for a good 5 minutes. All those marks that looked like scratches all came of . Might try some alcohol on a qtip when I get home.
going back to the original op issue. I use the dot case when not biking and I use a otter box defender case mounted to the handle bars when riding. So far the otter box works very nice and does not come off on the bike ride. It takes around a minute to put the phone in the case every ride, but nothing to long.
one added bonus about the mounted otter box and m8. When listing to a talk podcast I sometimes do not use headphones, the speakers are plenty loud.
