I think he posted a link for a warez site. There are plenty around and you can google for them if you want to, but the xda forums are to be kept warez free (as the use of cracked/pirated applications can bring unwanted bad publicity for the forum).
If you read through the forum's guidelines, you can see this explained in a lot greater detail.

i indeed posted a link to a warez site. My fault, sorry. i thought only posting to a specific warez .cab was illegal..

Not on XDA.

As you have found out, XDA doesn't tolerate warez or warez requests, so please don't ask for warez anywhere on the site.
Please read the forum rules at http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=530 before posting, as I notice you are new to xda, and think about the ethics of asking for free access to something which has cost lots of money to develop.

You want them? Buy them.
Most of them are crap anyway.

.... and just a little addition regarding the ethics,... the reason we are so anti warez here is simply that if we as consumers do not purchase software and games legitimately, hard working developers (more so the independent ones) could simply decide to pack it all in,... We'd be truly stuffed then.

[Q] Cydia or Hackulous for Android?

I saw an add in my local Clist the other day where a guy was offering access to free and most paid apps for download. He obviously wanted to charge a fee for this and didn't give a lot of details. He did say he'd add an app and then add "his servers", which update weekly. Sounds to me like another guy making a buck off of off something meant to be free and developed by the hacking community. I did a google search but only turned up old stuff from at least a year back. All of which had been patched. Anyone know what key words I'm missing or what he's using, it could be cool?

Developers have to eat. This is piracy and not only against the rules @ XDA, but against the law.

What's up Techies? What I was wondering - is where the line is drawn? How do you know your are commiting the action or process with what files?
From what I gather it is the illegal distribution Of copyrighted materials. I was reading and it seemed a guy just mentioned a program and he was chastised and boom thread closed. He may have posted a link and I didn't realize - I can't find the thread again, I was just meandering about the forums....
Mr. Clown shut his arse down though... And a couple other tech peeps were like hey bro, no no...

The way I've always looked at warez was... Is it full version, not beta or trial, and are you paying for it?
In other words, are you downloading something that you'd otherwise have to pay for in order to use?
Links to sources of that kind of material, even though it is not an actual warez item, are just as bad.

Warez is obtaining paid software for free or circumventing ways to pay for it. Providing links to sites/materials is just as bad and won't fly here.

We all need to read the Stickies, too. This is discussed in there. I think the post you referred to was asking for Warez, which is taboo here at XDA. The history is that access to, and discussions of, Warez\Pirated software threatened to shut down XDA several years ago. Imagine what life would be like without XDA.

Warez talks (solicitating links, request, posting, discussion or any talk) by any kind in threads or PM's will be shut down

Ok people, listen up.
Usually I and the other Moderators are tolerable to comments posted in the threads. Especially the Q&A and GeneralThread.
The Dev Thread, is for .... ahem... DEVELOPMENT PURPOSES ONLY. Read it again.
There is no need to post things that should be in the Q&A forum, or the General Forum. Remember this, as I will delete it. You know the rules, you read the rules.... so... understand the rules. If in doubt, post it in the Q&A forum.
But more importantly, is lately, the use of abusive language, arguments and flaming, has gotten out of control. Threads get clogged with useless garbage, like everybody is in an "e-penis" contest with everybody else. In which case, you all lose.

As of today, the 19th July 2012, if I have to come and delete any more abusive, flaming, profanity laced comments, and this means Users, Dev's and Cooks alike, I will assess infraction points and recommend ban's. No questions asked. And no appeal. Enough is enough. If a user posts a profanity laced post, that's it. And the same goes for Dev's and Cooks., If it's a "retaliatory" post, that's it also.
You have a "Report Post". Learn how to use it.
You people are adults, or close to it. It's not "facebook" or any internet chat, IM, ICQ, or any other device. There are people here, the majority, who want to make their device better, and generally are good people. And they don't want to see that type of garbage.
If you have a beef with somebody, use PM. Not the forum. Or just report the post.
