Its illegal and follows same steps as the evo. Minus meid repair.

My question was not on the legality of the process.... Nor was I trying to discuss the steps of the process in the forum. But you said minus meid repair.... Do you mean the steps are different?
Please if you have a guide or know the step of how to get the nexus s in the boost system pm it to me.
BTW I know the laws governing this action... Everyone has their own interpretation....

Hypothetically if I had a Epic 4G Touch with a Bad ESN and I wanted to change my ESN/MEID to my Nexus S 4G would it be done in the same way as switching to boost with a donor phone
I am actually just curious. I don't see the need to upgrade my NS4G until GN comes to sprint.

Anyways you will need cdma workshop

And boost will eventually catch u and ban the phone from its network. Just be a boss and keep it on a real network. Stop trying to beat aeound the bush. Plus have u seen how terrible boost is? Yea i know its sprint thats why boost mobile sucks.

Why would boost ban you? When I first tried to get my EVO on boost thru boost the rep told me that if I got my evo in their system they would have no problem activating service on it.

Why are you in this thread? You haven't contributed any useful information at all.
For everyone else: I just put a Sprint Nexus on Boost, CDMA Workshop isn't needed, its a 20 minute process using QXDM and QPST and is the same process as an Epic, or Moment or any other Samsung Android phone. Just make sure your using a 3g phone like an Incog or Touch Pro/2.
Havnt contributed bc its illegal.

YES, IT IS ILLEGAL, SO DONT DO IT.
As stated in an earlier post, the question wasnt about legality. Yes, im sure he understands that there may be some legality issues with this, nobody posted a how-to or detailed info on how to perform what he wants to do.
So again, why are you in this thread? Youve made 3 posts here and and contributed nothing but random mis-spelled words of negativity thrown together to form a sentence.
"Yup. Dont get sand in ur vag man. "
What the hell does that even mean anyways? Seriously, what's it have to do with this thread, or anything on the forum in general? Makes no sense. I noticed 90% of your posts on this forum are like this.
Thanks for viewing my page bossman.

Hey guys, Im new here but look forward to learning from this great community. That being said, I also questioned the leaglity of switching a phones netwrok. From what I understand, it should be legal according to the new exemptions to section 1201 of the Digital Millennium copyright act:
The new exemptions allow circumvention of (A) locks on cellular phone software, known in the industry as “bootloader” programs, that prevent customers from switching carriers without obtaining new handsets;
quoted from (wont let me link to web page due to new user, but you can google it) This is a new change, just going into effect in November.
That being said, I had a Nexus flashed to boost and it works fine. The only problem that I have is that they will not port my old number over due to it being an 'unsupported device'. Now I need to figure out if I root it, will it cause issues with the flash?
Can somebody PM me what was meant by "same as the evo without the meid change" please?

The process is not the same as the evo, its the same as any other Samsung phone. Just google Epic on Boost and you'll find instructions.
As far as rooting the device, it wont affect the radio portion of the phone which is what is used to make calls use 3g data. The only thing that will be lost is the MMSC URL setting in the data menu only if you flash a new ROM. That setting controls pic and mms messaging. It will usually default back to "http://mms.mysprintpcs.com". Just edit it so it reads "mm.myboostmobile.com". The data menu is accessed in the dialer by ##3282#, you'll need the SPC to make any changes.

Hi - I'm new to the forum - just wondering if any others users here are running their HTC Evo Shift on Boost Mobile?
My apologies if this is posted in the wrong forum or is covered in another thread – I know there are a lot of posts in the general forum about running smartphones on Boost Mobile, but my searches weren’t returning anything specific to the HTC Evo Shift on Boost.
I've recently rooted my phone (thanks to this thread) and now I am hoping to find solutions for a couple of issues that are inherent to running the Shift on Boost:
Voicemail
Understandably my Boost voicemails aren't syncing up with the stock voicemail app that came designed for Sprint. It's not the end of the world to have to auto-dial my own phone number to manage my voicemails manually, but it would be nice to view them through an application – or, at the very least, get notifications & alerts when new voicemails are received. I've been looking at services such as YouMail and HulloMail – but from what I understand; Boost Mobile does not support the call forwarding features that are necessary for these to work. Are there any other Evo Shift users on Boost here that have found a workaround for their voicemail?
MMS
Yes, I know the issue of MMS functionality on Boost Mobile has been covered in a dozen or more other threads on the general forum. However, those threads deal with a lot of different phones – they do not address MMS issues on the Evo Shift specifically. The few solutions suggested there have not worked on my Evo Shift so far.
Just to clarify – I have no trouble sending outbound MMS messages. My pictures and videos seem to be delivered normally to the recipients. The problem is with receiving inbound MMS messages. Rather than receiving a message with the MMS content displayed, I am sent a normal text message from Boost Mobile that essentially says “Hi you’ve received a media message, click here to view it!” and then it provides a link to https://mediamail.boostmobile.com where I’m supposed to go and log in to my account to view whatever picture or video was just sent to me. Obviously, this is incredibly annoying. To make matters worse – the link that Boost provides in their text message doesn’t even work – I have to go open my web browsing app and pull up my bookmark for the media mail website.
Is there an Evo Shift user on this forum who has found a way to receive true MMS functionality through Boost Mobile? So far I’ve just been tinkering with the MMS Server URL under the advanced phone settings (##3282#), and that is not working. I’ve heard mention of the need to change or delete certain apk or codex files – or to do something with the apn – but there were no clearly defined instructions on how to do that... and to be honest, I’m still learning what those terms really mean.
And finally – if someone could point me towards a thread that provides some very introductory information about custom ROM’s for the Evo Shift – such as how they are used, what enhancements they bring to the Evo Shift – and what are the inherent risks or downsides from using them… that would really be appreciated. I’m assuming that is the next subject for me to start exploring now that I’ve successfully perm-rooted my phone. I've been browsing the development forum, but much of it is over my head.
Many thanks.

Are you talking about the 4:25 mark where he goes in and retrieves the MMS he sent to himself?
I hate to say it.. but I think that might be a little slight-of-hand... it looks to me like he is just viewing the original sent message, not one he received. As I mentioned before - there is no issue with sending MMS, you just can't receive it.
If you look at the messages below the one he sent to himself... it's the "9000" text from Boost Mobile directing him to the media mail website.
I'll post a comment on his video, see if I can get a response.
thanks!

i just talked to sean's partner on the phone (hes local to me) and assures me they have that kink worked out.
hate to say it but the kids pretty damned good despite the legality issues of some of his work.
anyways ive recently switched a sprint evo shift to boost via a pick-a-choose process i collected from scouring the internet for days... some of it from XDA actually...
im considering packing it into a solution... anyways the only feature lost was visual voicemail.

Oh, that's great! Thanks for confirming this.
So - the question now is how did they do it. Not sure I can justify mailing my phone down to them and paying whatever $ to get it fixed, but it sure would be nice to have a solution for the MMS problem.
At least we know its possible though. Someone on another forum is saying it has to do with what "donor phone" was used to activate the Boost account... if the donor phone had true MMS capability, then the new phone will too. If not, then you're stuck with Boost media mail.
I handed my phone off to a local cellular repair shop to set it up for Boost service, and god only knows what they used to activate it. I should probably start with them if I want answers.
If anyone could PM me or post a link to a step-by-step guide to using my Evo 4G on boost mobile. Thanks.
I have a Evo shift on Boost fully functional! if you are on a stock htc sense rom, you can go into the epst settings by dialing##3282#, then select edit, go to the MMSC, and change that to mm.myboostmobile.com, that should fix your MMS, as far as voicemail goes, you cannot get notifications on the stock sprint rom, but you can if you switch to Cyanogen mod 7... if you switch, which i reccomend, especially because battery life is a million times better, then you will have to download APN manager to change MMS settings to get MMS to work on that ROM... let me know if you have any questions, it took me a month to get all of this figured out, so I would be glad to save someone the headache
I made a post of this but thought it wouldn't be harmful to include it here...
I'm having troubles with my 3G speed, I think the person that flashed my phone skipped some steps or wasnt too experienced...

Hope you guys can help me
More than likely he did, download speed test from the market and tell me what your are getting!
I recently flashed a shift over to boost mobile, but I think some of the EPST settings are messed up. Can anyone that has a working shift on boost mobile post the EPST settings?
I flashed my wives shift to boost. I'm not sure where you guys are getting your information but your should always check your an/aaa authorization when having your phone flashed and they don't provide a donor. To check if you are on 3g do this
##debug#>EVDO Engineering>AN/AAA Authentication
Should say 1 = Authenticated
Anything else is not 3g its 1x
For voicemails just download voice mail notifier or something similar from market.
This is easy stuff. The guides around the internet make it seem like its harder than it is to do these things.
I'm not sure if I addressed all the questions but I'll check back later if not

i have an evo shift on boost for the last 4 months. just recently it started going haywire. everytime i turn it on, it starts clicking on random stuff. any thoughts? i cant post any specifics cause it wont allow me to navigate at all. its a paperweight that accepts incoming calls. halp me, iz not a cheezburger!
The EVO shift is confirmed not to work right for boost. It's best to stick with the EVO 4G or the new boost slider the Transform Ultra.

Aside from that, is it possible?

Your missing what the dev section is for.
If someone had a custom Build.prop they wanted to share, that is a Dev post. Asking a question about development is not.
no, from what I've been tinkering with in the test settings (accessed with *#0011#) and pressing menu, back, selecting "network control", then "hspa cat control", I'm able to get better speeds on CAT 10 than CAT 14, but other's speeds may vary. (I know I'm a heavy user that uses over 15 to 20 GB per month too, so it may just be going through a CAT that I'm not throttled on too.... )
But with all above, I agree that this should be in General....
the inspire has hsupa disabled foe the att version with a line in build.prop. hsupa has been disabled on all att phone cept the iphone and the infuse. tere have been different meathods to disable it but is irrelevant because the infuse has it enabled. ther may be other settings to change but not to get even better speeds but I don't think it will be in build.prop or yield the same results.

No, AT&T has. HSPA+ is still 3G, even though AT&T calls it 4g. They may re-brand all the user-facing stuff to say 4G, but the phone's technical information that you aren't supposed to see will refer to it by its technical term, 3G.
if its not LTE , its not 4g Sorry to burst your bubble. I truely miss Tmobile when it comes to data. I would get around 6megs down all the time on "3g". I dont even get 3 most times with at&t and the upload is such horrible ****.

LTE isn't 4G either, if you want to lump HSPA+ into ' it's not 4G' category. LTE currently offers nothing remotely close to the original ITU specs.

I hope in not posting in the wrong part of this forum but I was freaked out today at the tmobile store. It all starts last night when I goggle map searched "bar and grill" and later searched on browser "screen names" looking for screen name ideas. So, this morning my wife and I go to tmobile to pay our bill. The clerk in an attempt to talk to my wife says "so did you find a good screen name last night? " She had no idea what he was talking about. Then he asks "how was the bar and grill? " I was immediately angry. I know there was recent proof carriers collect our data, but not only does tmobile collect logs of most things we do on our phones, the make it available to any ass working in a tmobile store! I would v believed it was that bad without seeing it for myself. I told him to give me a print out of that info he was reading but he refused. So now I'm on an AOSP BUILD. The rom I was using before was weapon btw. Why is spyware in custom roms? Does anyone work at tmobile that can confirm this? Are AOSP builds the only way to combat this? I can't believe any asshole at a tmobile store can just punch in a number and see everything we do on our phones!

Did your rep had your phone? Cause if he did, he could have been going through the search history. Either way he shouldn't be going through them.
Dang, that's real bs. I would definately seek legal action.
Well, I would assume all carriers log all data accessed (via mobile data connection at least) to supply to the gov't for profiling and legal purposes. But allowing Joe Schmoe at the store access to it is definitely a violation of your privacy. The contract probably allows them to monitor your activity but that's a bit of an overshare if you ask me.
Well you can always get check and or get rid of the Carrier IQ thing that tracks your information.
You need a rooted phone to do so and then go here to download the app because it is not on the android market.

This story is BS. Store employees do not have access to that kind of data. Almost no one within T-Mobile could get anywhere near that kind of data even if they did record any of it. Also, none of the official G2x firmwares carry CIQ.

Regular Sales Reps or even Mgrs shouldn't have any access to that kind of information. None of the systems they use can dig that deep. They can see details about minutes, texts and your bill items, etc. but thats about the extent of it. Especially through CAM, Watson or Quickview. Although I would be surprised if the network engineers couldn't get that data if they were high up enough. The carrier iq thing isn't much of a surprise to me.
Weapon is based on the stock 2.3.3 rom so the OP is plausible, not probable, but certainly not busted. It has just been enhanced but most of it is stock TMO rom.
But I do think the OP is pure BS. That type of data would not be available at the store level and an employee who revealed such info would be subject to immediate termination.

OK I'm starting this post for my buddy who has a sprint galaxy nexus we live in south Florida and spring took there towers off line today to do some service to there towers well when they put them back online they deactivated his service and when he called customer service he told them his phone was rooted and unlocked with a custom ROM and they told him that sprint probably seen that his phone was rooted and that is why they deactivated his device well he has it back on now and is getting no data what so ever

cant see that happening tbh, why would a phone network care about what you do to your device? Only the phone manufacturer would care about you invalidating your warranty if you were to book it in for repair.

Tell him to do a profile update. Settings -> About Phone -> Sprint updates -> Update Profile (if I remember correctly) and then Update PRL. Otherwise just call up Sprint and tell them he's not getting data and they should be able to refresh his profile from their end. Also, they can't do anything about you rooting your phone as it's yours. If he starts tethering like 50GB a month or something stupid like that, then yeah there's an issue. But I'm assume it's normal usage. Why he even bothered telling the lady his phone is rooted is beyond me...No offense, but that was pretty stupid.

It's not so good anywhere unless you're in their LTE areas. Their coverage is fine, voice and text is fine. Their data is GARBAGE.

Hey what's up guys? I'm the guy with the Sprint issues. It makes absolutely no sense to me at all why they would care about my device but the way she made it sound was that Sprint cannot restore my 3g data because my device was rooted. She told me that my best bet would be to flash back to stop and start over. She concluded with an offer to follow up with me after I flashed back to stock and she could rectify the data situation then. Call me crazy but I think I want the opinion of the guys who know what's going on and not the one of the chick reading off her computer screen. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Several things I have to say:
1. Do not EVER EVER EVER tell your phone company that you rooted your device because the things that run through their mind are:
a) ****! Now he can tether without paying!
b) We're not fixing your phone now because you voided the warranty.
I hope she didn't put notes on your account for b) because that can prevent you from getting your phone repaired in a Sprint store.
Also, it depends what software is on your phone. Have you tried going back to stock? Have you tried calling Sprint again and not mentioning that your phone is rooted?

I asked her if there were going to be notes on my account mentioning it being rooted and she said yes but she said she was putting another note stating that the phone was being returned to stock. So I don't know. I'm learning and the main thing I'm learning is that the more I try to learn about this ****, the worse it's getting. The thing I hate the most is that this is a way to break away from the communist machine that is Sprint but somehow they still have me by the balls.

Technician notes are different from account notes, so if you were to go into a store for a repair I'm sure they wouldn't see that. Try reactivating your phone. Call Sprint, tell them:
"I called a while ago because I was having issues with data. A rep told me to punch in a code in the dialer and he also gave me the MSL code for my phone, but I can't find where I wrote it down. Do you mind telling me how to re-do the Handsfree Activation?"
Follow the instructions and see if that works. If nothing comes up on the dialer when you punch in the code, your ROM doesn't have Handsfree-Activation included. Try going to a stock ROM or ROM that has the Sprint menus in it.

I'm gonna have to jump on this first thing in the morning. Thanks for the advice. I will post any results on this thread as they unfold.
I would go as far to say it would be illegal for the phone company to cut you off for tethering a device that you own. (There are apps such as FoxFi that bypass the 'tethering tax' mobile networks try to claim) However, as someone said previously if you are downloading heavily then I guess they could cut you off for that.
At T-Mobile, NO such policy of cutting you off exists and they rely solely on throttling and packet shaping.

Thing is, he barely knows what he's doing. He's rooted and ROM'd but that's it. He's new to this whole thing. I don't even think he was tethering; I was just using it as an example for why a phone company wouldn't want you rooting their devices. But yeah I agree, you can't get cut off for modifying your device like that unless it was doing something that it logically should not be able to do (like if you were using it as a 24/7 server to host a website or something crazy).

Nope, not at all.
God. I hate how Verizon keeps pulling this **** off. Such an amazing phone. Might just order one off Google to have and sell later on.
Edit*
Even with a lot of development, there is no way to bypass it huh

Not really. Might be feasible to spoof the activation from a previously enabled Verizon phone but I don't think anyone's even started working on that, and THAT would be an ugly workaround.

Would it be possible now that they release the update for the Nexus 7?, I'm guessing somebody could pull it apart and figure what makes that update so special

No still not because version's VOICE network is CDMA and if they don't have your ESN in their database you can't connect. Simple as that.
The methods of doing that is similar to those of flashing Sprint phone to boost mobile. But I think it's illegal and can't be discused in xda as it requires modifing imei/esn.

no, it has nothing to do with that.
verizon keeps a list of all the allowed ESN/IMEI numbers and will not let a number on their network that is not in their list.
I think he meant modifying the esn to match one in their database, which would be illegal. This thread should be closed.
I've seen some photos and heard some rumors that Verison will be carrying an official branded Nexus7 (boy, do I mean branded) sometime this year. Hopefully the 5 will follow
