I'm new to the Android platform, only getting an Android Phone less than a week ago. I am however a developer and from reading up on Android and ROM's I noticed that there was little to nothing on the .IMG format, especially tools for windows.
With that in mind I started to develop a command line based tool to extract and compress .IMG files. It does rely on other tools to do this (hence the Tools folder included). My utility searches for the GZip Signature in the .IMG file and dumps the data. It then extracts it into a folder and from here you can modify the files and then re-compress them back into an .IMG file using my tool.
What I have found is some .IMG files that contain links/shortcuts will become corrupt upon extraction since they are only supported by the linux operating system.
Anyway, my program should be self explanatory when you run it. The screenshot above also shows the commands and parameters that should be used.
NOTE : [Base IMG] is your original unmodified .IMG File and [New IMG] is the file name of the .IMG file that will be created. Also, ignore the function not implemented errors.
Reserved.
P.S : Guess nobody knows what .IMG files are then...
Nice man! Thank you.

These are some useful little tools, Considering lack of them for Windows users. Maybe nice one day to Polish it up with a nice GUI to make it easy for less experienced people.
But Good job I'll be using these.

Hey together.
(at first: I do not want use a finished custom rom. I am happy as my Rome is now running)
I Would like to deodex my JB Stock Rom to coustomize my self with Mods and other but for almost everything i used a deodexed Rom. I tried xUltima and the Android Kitchen, v0.223 by dsixda and both doesn't work.
On the Android Kitchen, v0.223 by dsixda i can't find my TWRP Backup and i don't know how i convert it or somthig else.
On xUltima i become instantly an Error. When i delete the odex file which caused the error i become instantly a another error.
Here is a Picture from xUltima:

no one an idea?
Make a imitation ROM:
Create a dump.
Download Rhythm Manager's version of file manager.
Now go to / (self explanatory) and copy system.
It'll take a while, but copy it to sdcard.
Now copy the file onto computer. Find a ROM and copy the META_INF.
Make a empty boot.img.
Put the boot.img, system, and meta_inf into a zip folder. THis would be your ROM.
You can take it from there.

1) Yes. Any ROM is okay. Just get it from an actual ROM.
2) Step 1: unhide extension by going explorer.exe --> organize --> Folder and search options --> view --> uncheck Hide extension ... --> click apply to folders--> Apply. Now simply make a .txt file on desktop and rename the extension as img, and the file name make it boot.
I have searched a lot, but couldn't find any post like this. So I thought I would post it here. This is NOT purely my work, and I do not take credit for it as such .
NO NEED ANDROID KITCHEN FOR UNPACK REPACK IMG's
This is the easiest way to unpack .img files with extracted ramdisk. So, Lets Start
At first Download the tool from HERE
For MTK (chineese) phones - use MTK_unpack.bat (MTK_pack.bat)
For android standard phones - use STD_unpack.bat (STD_pack.bat)
Here I am showing you about MTK (chineese) phones .img unpack-repack....
Instructions
1. Extract the file in any where you want
2. You will see this files
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3. Then Copy your .img file in this folder like this
Remember the file should be named as boot.img or recovery.img
4. Just Drag and Drop .img files into unpack.bat for unpacking. Then you will see this.
5. A folder will be created there. I unpacked boot.img so here is the all file you want
6. To repack, again just drag and drop the folder into pack.bat. you will see this
7. New .img file created. Rename it as you want. So All done. Enjoy.

My device is LG GX F310, original boot.img 24MB, https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bx0NlR3rjLYeUS14YmxESGc3bWc/edit?usp=docslist_api after unpacked and repacked new boot.img only has 11MB. And can't boot into system. Could you help me?
Work with MT6752?
this tool isn't working under Windows 10, that unpack all files except "rmdisk" folder.
the rmdisk is empty...
I tried to use this tool to unpack the lienageOS recovery ROM from https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/s5neolte/install
When I change the name and drag it to unpack it, it doesn't work and I get these error messages.
'chcp' is not recognized as an internal or external command,operable program o - Pastebin.com
Pastebin.com is the number one paste tool since 2002. Pastebin is a website where you can store text online for a set period of time.
pastebin.com
Am I doing something obvious wrong?
I tried it for my stock boot.img(Mi 11 lite 5g NE-Snapdragon 778G) and the unpacked items didn't satisfy me. Looks like it isn't for snapdragon chipset. BTW I'm looking for similar tool to extract kernel from boot.img of this device.Thnaks though for uploading the tool.
Weak Intro :
Well, I find few people who're curious to change their TWRP splash screen and even the themes. Don't know how to do this weird stuff? You're at the right place! . I know few of them might be bored with staring at the same splash screen for a long time. How about trying something crazy? :silly:.
Prerequisites:
1. Knowledge of how to repack/unpack img. If you don't know how to do this, Just follow this thread by @osm0sis: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2073775
2. A TWRP recovery image for our device which can be found here: https://eu.dl.twrp.me/x3/
3. A splash screen image(format in PNG) of your choice.
4. Notepad++ for XML editing. You can get it from here: https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v7.5.2.html
5. PATIENCE! :silly:
Procedure:
Ok now that you're happy with the prerequisites, Let's start being crazy!
I assume that you know how to use the Android Image Kitchen by @osm0sis and thereby I'll proceed without any AIK instructions.
Let's start!
1. Extract the TWRP image you wish using the AIK. To do this, Just drag the TWRP image file onto unpackimg.bat file
2. Now you'll find 2 folders.
-> ramdisk
-> spllit_img
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3. Leave the "split_img" folder aside.(We don't need anything to do with it) and open the "ramdisk" folder.
4. Open the "twres" folder and then right-click on the "splash.xml" file. Then choose Edit with Notepadd++ in the context menu.
5. Scroll down till you find the page XML tag.
6. Now, delete the lines as shown below.
7. Add this line shown below
8. All done! Now you need to get your PNG image of resolution 1920 x 1080(height x width) of your choice.
9. Go to this directory: ramdisk/twres/images. You'll find a file "splashlogo.png". Just Overwrite it with your PNG image and you're done!
10. Finally, you need to pack the modified stuff to make TWRP image. To do this, head onto the AIK folder and then click repackimg.bat. You'll find a a new file in the same folder called "image-new.img". This file is your modified TWRP img. Just flash it and you're good to go.

So been playing with GSIs.. though none are amazing.. so thinking about porting the Tab S7 to the S6 using the same method.. (Just flashing the system.img file using the Treble method).
I have downloaded the latest S7 ROM
SM-T870_XSA_T870XXU2DWB2
Extracted the AP, BL, CSC & HOME tar files.
Then extacted the super.img
Converted the super.img to raw and extracted that too.
I was expecting to see a 1,2,3 4.ext files which should translate to vendor.img, boot.img, system.img etc.
Though instead i got the full file structure. (pic below).. within this structure is a System folder.. though not sure how i get to a flashable system.img file?
Little help?
Super.img Extract:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And within that folder is the System Folder:
btw here the link to the ROM https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-T870/XSA/T870XXU2DWB2
Wish I could help since I would love one ui 5 on this one, I can only make a suggestion though, hopefully not stupid.
Take a look at the T866N firmware/rom, the device is almost identical except from SD855 vs the + variant and the inclusion of 5G, even if the lte/4g/5g modem is broken I think it would be worth it.
Also I'll mention some guy that did this on S21 to S20 successfully @LeeXDA18
Edit: My bad, thought the 5G variant got One UI 5 for some reason, still maybe lee has some clue on this.
its very strange.. i have just extracted the .tar file from the A12 S6 Firmware and i get what i expected..
Looks like the S7 uses a new method of firmware deployment..
I'll give it a try too, for the meanwhile hopefully this guy here has some insight @ShaDisNX255
no one can help on how to create a System.img from an Android 13 ROM for the Tab s7, s8 or s9?]
Just tried the M-X800_EUX_X800XXU3BWC1_f ROM.. though this one despite converts to RAW without issue. I then cannot extract the RAW file.. i am amazed that each of these Firmware's has a different structure!
just tried the S6 Lite ROM too.
SM-P610_XSA_P610XXU2FWC4_f
That RAW extracts without issue.
Though once again i am left with a full folder structure.. how do i get this structure into a flashable System.img?
so i extracted the super.img as above.. and from what i can see it's the same folder structure as a system.img..
so i have tried to flash it within TWRP to the System partition leaving other partitions intact. (treble method).
though now getting an error "Size of image is larger than the target device"
S6 AP is 6.9GB
S7 AP is 7.9GB
so am back to needing to be able to create a new system.img file.. looks like it may need a big debloat.. time to build a linux host..
I dont know if we would be able to shave 1gb of debloat.. this might be a lost cause without repartitioning the System partition on the device.. i dont have any experience with that..
the saga continues..
if anyone wants to play around with the super.img/system.img you can find the link below.
it's untouched from samsung's AP_T870XXU2DWB2_T870XXU2DWB2_MQB62030429_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT_meta_OS13.tar.md5 file.
It needs to be extracted debloated and then compressed back into a system.img (in linux).
Or our device needs it's System Partition extended so it can be flashed as is..
