Just read this over at AP. But I wouldn't suggest holding your breath.
Once we get CM9, I rather doubt many devs are going to work off the official if such ever happens. I just hope to see CM9 when it is ready .

yeah... frankly though, i'm not that surprised.
mytouch 4g deserves official ICS update.
I like the combination of android base and htc customizations. sense 3.5 is amazing.
In ICS google has done very nice UI changes, which feels very standard and long lasting UI similar to W7.
So I hope to get official ICS release from T-mobile/HTC for this device.

My MyTouch 4g just notified me today that an update is available. I'm running 2.3.4 on it right now, and it says the update is for 2.3.5... Can anybody tell me the differences in the two? Should I update? I was considering rooting my phone and flashing a rom with sense 3.0 on it. I'm nervous about bricking my phone though, so I figured if this new update contains 3.0, then just not bother rooting. But I also don't want to upgrade, then not be able to downgrade and root anymore. What is in this new 2.3.5 update?

It's nothing earth shattering.
You can get 2.3.7 by going to CM7. Still nothing earth shattering in the changes there either. But CM7 is like worlds better than stock in my not even remotely humble opinion.
No one has mentioned that in 4.1, settings, kill app after leaving option when enabled it blanks all but the app button on the home screen and when you press the app button it blacks out the entire screen. I am not able to post on the dev page so I thought I would bring this here.

HTC announced the "Sensation" today and it will have Sense 3.0 built in (i.e. launching apps from the lockscreen). Do you think either HTC will update the Bolts out there to Sense 3.0, or will we get from the XDA modders?
I'm sure it will get Sense 3.0 from the Devs first
**** I sure hope so looks super sweet. But we should get our updates soon after sensation comes so hopefully verizon and htc gives it to us in the gingerbread update would be awesome.

I heard that even the Evo was never officially updated to 2.0
Is that true? If so, it doesn't bode well for HTC officially updating to 3.0 for the Bolt.

Indeed.
The INC and EVO never "officially" got Sense 2.0, but there are half a dozen ROMs available for those two phones to run it unofficially. I would be shocked if the same did not occur for this phone in regards to 3.0 as well
Im not a rooter...so i need it officially. I emailed htc asking the question...lets see what they say.

as much time as htc and verizon took with the thunderbolt...its very likely that the thunderbolt will be overlooked in getting 3.0...unofficially though, my biggest problem with the devs that make the roms is they add a whole bunch of stuff when all I may actually want is just a stockish gingerbread os combined with sense 3.0...i hope when the time comes...that will be available...im not a flashing person either...but that...i would actually flash
Rest assured, When it is out. I will at the very least create some monsterish beast that has this

Well, 2Q 2011 ended 11 days ago. I'll believe it when I see it. Actually, I won't ever see it because I'm now using Virtuous Unity. Hot stuff I tell you. And it doesn't have all the pre-loaded crapware T-Mobile adds into the ROM.
The Nexus One spoiled me. I tried to keep my MT4G stock as long as possible. I'm surprised I made it 6 months on the stock MT4G ROM. Once you root and flash a gazillion different ROMs, stock is definitely and simply boring.

Of course not the hardware on that thing is the same as Sensation....We get Espresso, check out the leaked GB ROM for our phones, that's what we're getting. There's a doubleshot rom from the MT4GS here too if you wanna taste of 3.0 on that phone. Ginger for us will look just like froyo, no fancy 3D effects for older single core phones.

You are correct. The Gingerbread leak from early May looks identical to 2.2.1. The only big change/addition was the inclusion of the Quick Settings tab in the notification pulldown. I believe the leaked build had Sense 2.1. Pretty much going to have to rely on XDA if you want Sense 3.0 on your MT4G.

I've been testing the Gingerbread update and was going to post some screenshots, but apparently I need to have at least 8 posts before I can do so per the rules of the forums here.
I don't want to spam the forums here to hit some limit, but when I hit the magical 8 posts, I'll submit a post with images of the update.
So if i were to unroot to check out the update when its released i would have to root a completly different way? I had to gfree cause of the locked bootloader on the mt4g that i bought. Since my phone has the "bad emmc" I was thinking that using stock for a couple months til the phone dies would be a safe gamble.

Again, the question is whether joedonh is from tmo and thats how he is testing the upgrade or whether he is working on leaked version which everyone here has access to. Later is most likely not the case but just want to confirm.
Some Tmo employees have been selected to test the official GB rom. I imagine it is just as bad as the froyo build. it is still a "stock" rom so i am sure it is full of bloatware...

If he is an employee with T-mobile then he'd be breaking the NDA that they have to sign when getting phones or updates before the public. It's also against T-mobile policy. I wouldn't take the chance of it getting back to T-mobile and losing my job to show off a screen shot.

You knew this question was going to come. Now that 4.1 has been announced, when are we getting ours?
This will take a longer time for sure, as HTC is still busy to release ICS
Jellybean dev kits are supposed to be released mid july. At least that's what this source says: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/06/27/google-announces-android-41-jelly-bean/
But it may be a while before we get a working ROM.
Given the time it took the CM team to release CM9 RC1, I'd say 6 months!

HTC says they "don't yet have an announcement" for Jelly Bean on existing devices.
... I can't post a link because <10 posts, but there is an article on pocket-lint.com
That will only lead to an anemic SDK ROM. sure it will show us the cool new features, but I wouldn't expect much. I wonder how long it takes to hit AOSP

Google doesn't care
I remember reading recently that Google knows about fragmentation but isn't worried about it. Now that I'm tempted to buy a media device to have the latest and greatest software, I can see how fragmentation can actually work for Google because now more and more people will look to buy nexus devices.
the main reason i got a HTC phone is because unlike Samsung's strange choice in hardware it dosnt take 5 months to port a fast stable release from the MOD team unlike HTC
lets hope this takes off !

Gingerbread was good when this phone came out two years ago, but way out dated now to expect customers will be happy with it starting a new two year contract.
