hey there! I just bought me a shiny new Desire S and it's great. I read alot of posts about the best rom. My first custom rom was the incredible "[ROM][3 JAN 12][Endymion V3.3|Sense 3.5|GB 2.3.5][kernel V2.0|ControlCenter]"! But now i switched to "[ROM][19 JAN 12] [4.0.3 AOSP]Virtuous Quattro RC2"!
ICS FTW!!
I don't have anything else to say yet but saying hi!
So: Hi!
and good night/day!
-edit-
I just want to add a big THX to all members of this Forum -especially the developer-part of it! I do it this way because of the 5 THANKS Button-Limit! ;D
Hi.
Welcome to the one of most friendly parts of xda forums. Enjoy Your stay.
Well... Endymion was a good choice. All of us will jump on to ICS when it's going to reach that stable state, but for now... Well...
Hi there.
Watch out for ORD. Chances are you'll catch it soon if you haven't already found yourself with some of the early symptoms.
Whats ord?

Think it may mean obsessive rom disorder or something along those lines

But... ICS is stable. Ok, there are things not working, but still stable.
"Unstable" is completely different thing.
When it will work for 95% I will switch to ics.

Gee... Thanks for explanation.
By unstable I meant not finished product with features missing and some working partially.
Endymion 3.4 is complete, as there are no bugs, missing bits or compromises in it, hence it is perfect for daily use, both professional and casual.
Heloooooo welcome. We are a friendly bunch LOL

Is it possible to get sense 4.0?
Not yet, but be paticent .
We need a compatable kernel source...
Sent from my PG06100
What I read was sense 4.0 only goes to phones that are made for ics and the phones that get updated from gingerbread to ics get sense 3.6 which is pretty much the same but that has to do with hardware issues
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Yea YoungCorruption is right, the EVO 3D, Sensation etc are all getting Sense 3.6 with "as many Sense 4.0 features we can include" says HTC.
New phones will get Sense 4.0, and this is mostly because of the ImageSense chip in the new HTC phones which current phones do not have.
Honestly I will be suprised to see the shift get sense 3.6, but no matter what eventually their will be ports of Sense 4.0, Sense 3.6 etc. Hell the One V Leak just showed itself ill probably post on general later
Kinda weird that no one has started the porting. I know there isn't a compatible kernel source out there yet. I'll be looking out for one, if I come across one I'll let you know! Thank you for helping our Shifts get sense 4.0!

Not that weird. It's considerably more difficult, if not impossible to port a Rom without a Kernel.
I'm trying to port. Crossing fingers. Lol. Hopefully I can get it. I've tried many different sense roms but maybe this might be the one lol. I hope I can get it up and working for everyone

Well then I'm sure you also know how to compile a kernel? I mean if its as easy as your saying you could do this in your sleep no? If you can compile it then do so, that way development goes farther otherwise what you saying don't really mean anything

so as we all no Nexx is hard at work getting the 3.0 kernel ready and just about every dev is going to want to use it to fully harness ics on our DS so i wanted to know which ics rom everyone is looking to use as their main one and why, so i'll kick things off
right now i'm leaning towards Blindice as my main rom, i've tried the latest cm9 and a whole load of other ics roms and blindice seems the most stable for me so far, also got the best connectivity out of all the ones i've tried so far

Nice thread
I'm looking forward to Sense based ROMs in the long run, but I don't think they will be ready for a while, to the point where they are customizable with RCTweaks etc.
So I'm looking at CM9. I don't think there will be CM9 Stable so soon. Remember CM7.2 started in December 2010. They got a couple if RC out during January > April. But the final version came October. I'm guessing that officially we will get CM9 RC pretty soon. And the final version with all the tweaks/themes done will come by October like it did with CM7.
If you look at CM9 now, they have a lot of placeholders.

RC = Release candidate. It is a build that has been tested quite alot, and has potential to become the final build. This is one step ahead of the nightly builds. Then once they decide which is the stablest RC, it becomes the stable/final.
I certainly agree with you. When Reaper first came, I held off it, for some reason I do not know why, but I recently tried Reaper (in fact still on it currently) and its fantastic.
Yeah some sense apps are excellent and are the main reasons I use it, particularly the camera app. Its miles ahead of AOSP ones.

I'm not to sure about the actual quality, but the UI of the Sense camera app is better.
Simply because it allows touch-to-focus video, face detection, and instant snap mode.

God damn, now I'm considering going back to Endymion, just to have face detection back... cool but pointless feature
Touch to focus works on the CM camera app, but it doesn't work while shooting video.
How often do you use your cam? I only ever use it during holidays or special events. The last time I used it for proper shots (not just the odd picture) was during Christmas.
If I ever want to go back to Endymion, I'm only a Nandroid away

it's not stupid.. i would use blindice, but the overwhelming support for a sense based one would make me try that and likely stick with it.. once the kernel is released most of the roms will all get to a point where every feature works.. on all of them.. therefore it will be the extra merits of the roms for example speed, performance, addons, customisability etc, this thread is too see which one people are looking forward to, thats why i said stable
Continuing on the discussion reg camera, I have observed tha the STOCK Sense camera gives better pictures with lesser noise nad smaller file sizes...
I'd like to see a full Sense 4 port, only reason I'm looking forward to Kernel 3.0. That and 60 FPS graphics across ICS

We could but I personally don't have the time or the skill to write a whole new kernel source... As for the booting versions for the desire hd and g2, I believe the kernel is a 2.6.35.14 version, hacked to work with ics...

That's probably along the lines of whats gonna be required. I don't see HTC releasing a compatible Kernel for a device they've already determined EOL on.

The design and desire hd are both getting ics... The design has the exact same processor as shift. Once that source is released, it will definitely make things less challenging... I can add a device to a source, just happens to be extremely time consuming because it's somewhere around 5000 edits. I'll have a million errors to fix, which is even more time consuming... But the good news is that I started working on it (adding shift to 2.6.35.14 kernel modded for ics) a month or so ago, the bad news is that it still needs endless hours of work... I can't honestly say if I'll ever get it, but, i.m.o., it's definitely worth a shot...

Had someone in the doubleshot forums say them devices are only getting sense 3.5 ICS? And that sense 4 was reserved for the one series because of their camera chip or something. Hell I don't know I don't keep current with what's being released I just keep my current phone faster and better than what's being released

All HTC devices that are getting ICS excluding the one series are getting sense 3.6 which is basically sense 3.5 on ICS but with a few new things like the Rosie has 5 icons and u can change 4 of em and whatever apps are on the dock are your lockscreen shortcuts. Nothing major that I've noticed. Running it on my evo3d now. The design has an ICS leak already I can link to it if you guys want.
And don't you guys already have a hacked 2.6.35.14 kernel for ICS? On the evo3d we can boot up CM9 with the 3.0 kernel from the leak we got and before we got the 3.0 kernel we were booting up sense 4.0 with the tiamat kernel
AND you guys have working ICS roms to base it off as a start.

Doesn't work, myself and a few other devs have tried to use tiamat and it won't boot... No we don't have the hacked 2.6.35.14 kernel, I'm working on porting it but I'm getting an error about the eng hboot... The design stuff won't work until we can resize it, shift is 3.6" wvga resolution and design is 4" qhd resolution. We have already thought about and or tried all the recommendations here... It isn't going to be as easy as you think... As for sense 4.0, we should get the ROM, but it will prolly never have a fully functioning camera. Strapped is right, the one series has a new imaging chip, that's not compatable with shift...

Tiamat kernel is a hacked 2.6.35.14 kernel for ICS or else it wouldn't boot CM9. Not saying its got everything it needs to boot sense 3.6 but the base is there. Chad.Goodman over at infectedrom.com (goes by kernelchef now) might be able to help with getting the kernel changes to boot sense 3.6 because he's done it on our 3D's. As for the camera chip on sense 4.0 you mentioned, the 3D doesn't have the chip and we have our camera working. Joelz was working on a sense 3.6 port before we got our leak so he could probably share some knowledge about it. I think he was the one that got the camera going on sense 4.0 also (Some refer to him as the porting god). And newtoroot has fixed like everything on his sense 4.0 ports. And as for the resizing, its been done for the shift there's kingdom ports for sense 3.0. Yea, I know this ain't easy and I'm not trying to make it seem like it is, but its been done. And I'd try and get something cooking but I don't have my shift anymore.

I really like the Evo Shift. The fact that its probably gonna be the last Sense device for the foreseeable future that has a hardware QWERTY, Its gonna be real hard to move on from it because every Android phone I've ever owned has had 1. I'm not a fan at all of phones that don't have 1. However, not having Sense 4 really sucks considering this phone isn't really all that old. HTC/Sprint should have brought us to Sense 4. The Evo was out what A year before the Shift give or take? Its total BS the EOL is confirmed along side it.
It's really hard to port this rom because of how large sense 4.0 rom is. Over 500mb. I've tried and failed with a non boot start. Lol, I'll keep trying Hopefully I can get the rom working and everyone can enjoy!

Hey guys...so, I was recently given a glacier with a cracked screen that I repaired. I tried a couple JB Roman but unfortunately as of right now no one is really doing a lot of development for this old device just a bunch of ports with very little effort.toward bug fixes.
I decided to install the most supported rom I could find which turned out to be virtuous unity. Sense 3.0 android 2.3.4
I'm very happy with the rom. So far it is very fast and stable and does almost everything I want it to do.
My one major gripe is the keyboard. I got very used to the JB keyboard from a past phone of mine and nothing I've tried really matches up.
Is there some way I can install the JB keyboard on this old rom?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

They have jellybean and ICS keyboard in the play store. Plus gingerbread stock keyboard. Just a quick glance they have official evervolve and unofficial slimbeam both 4.3. Awesome did some amazing roms. To say there isn't much development I think is not fair. For such a phone to be so old and only one carrier(in the USA) and the carrier is the least popular of the four hoursmen I think says a lot

Little effort towards bug fixes? Are you kidding me? Devs like Elgin, coderzs and albinoman887 are ripping their hair out trying to fix some bugs. It's not very nice of you to say that's there's little effort involved. Try fixing them yourself and you'll find out why it's so hard.

Sorry about that, I didn't mean to insult anyone. Fro. What I could see it didn't seem like the roms that were being ported were getting a lot of attention after that. Coderz has been porting a ton of roms which I appreciate but I didn't think he was really focusing on making any of them daily driver stable.
The phone is super old and I'm just glad that anyone is doing anything with it at all.
Notori0us, I say that you're building a 4.3 and it looks like from your thread that you're planning on sticking with it and working the bugs out which I'm super pumped about.
Sorry to anyone that is working hard on making a stable newer rom for this old phone that I might have offended, I just haven't seen it yet and the threads I've read are suggesting using older roms.
And thanks for the info about the jellybean keyboard in the market, I had no idea it was that simple.

Lol I was porting a 4.3 cyanogenmod but albinoman887 put out a pretty good one already so there's no point.
I'd you find any rom on the desire hd, s, z or some other phone with the same screen size just pm me I'll try. Also I have a another 4.2.2 aosp rom ported. Just need testers.
Also what bugs exactly are you talking about, you should tell the Devs about it and try to troubleshoot it.

Haha, ok, I'll take a look at albinoman887's thread and see how active it is.
Thanks for the offer! I'm actually really happy with the Rom I've got right now just trying out a bunch of different keyboards.
I can't remember all the bugs I ran across, one of them was that the screen would continually flash even though the phone was off.
Anyway, thanks again for your help/offer, I really do appreciate it!
