Well you can use Google Maps. Here is what you have to do...
1. Go to Maps.
2. In Meniu, go to Settings.
3. There you will find Labs.
4. Go in Labs and scroll down to PreCache Map Area
5. Tap that and now you have it installed
6. Now go to a point in your map where the phone says you are and Tap for more Details
7. Scroll down and you will find a PreCache map area. Tap that and you are done!
This will download the map of a 10mi radius from where you selected the point.
That`s it!

Or use OsmAnd (OpenSourceMaps for Android)...

Hi - I think if they are unique and useful then we'll need to post a description of what they do, otherwise you'd have to download it and try it out to see if it's something that you'd find useful....
For me - Data on demand - switches your mobile data connection off when you're screen is off, unless a background task calls for it.
and battery indicator - put's a little battery icon in your status bar which shows you how many % battery you have left.. much more useful than the vagaries of the std battery icon.
Hey above two are very common man
Ok let me tell u abt mine:
1. Droid phone control
U can the contents of ur phone on laptop without using usb cable..u can do a lot more..give it a try

My first post!
Just to correct OP, MeContacts is not a smart dialer. It's an app that you can put different contacts in grid view. You can choose either to call or view contact when you tap on that particular contact. Also, speak and send is great, thanks OP.
I've been nerding and looking up for anything that can improve my X10. I'll name the ones that I don't think are very common. But ya, here goes my long list (in no particular order; i don't use all of these now, but they have been useful to me before)...
*1) QuickDesk Beta
- quick pop up menu where you can add apps/widgets and allows you to stay on your current application (for some reason the double tap doesn't work for me, but single tap works fine)
2) Last Call Widget
- a simple widget that lets you see your last call (can 1 click to call back the caller if it was a missed call)
3) Quick Settings (by Sergej Shafarenka)
- an app that lets you quickly set your WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, etc. This is better than having a widget constantly running in the background
4) Quick Battery (by Sergej Shafarenka)
- nice looking battery widget
*5) Multicon Widget
- have 4 shortcuts (not widgets) in a normally 1 icon space (helps save a lot of space)
*6) Car Mode
- press on the icon, and phone all phone calls will be coming out of the speakers (NOT a bluetooth feature which connects to other BT devices)
7) Turtle Photoframe
- best (in my opinion) photoframe for pictures, not a lot of features or customization, but gets the job done I think
8) Unit converter (by Wopnersoft)
- really nice looking interface for a unit converter
9) Tajm
- presents the time and date in word format rather than numbers
*10) Shake - Uninstall
- enable the feature, and go into any application (does not work with widgets), then shake to uninstall the app
11) Blik Calendar Widget
- a 4x1 widget that shows your calendar schedule for about 8-10 days. Uses 1 of 500 built in pics to describe your activity for that day
*12) Home Switcher
- if you use a lot of different launchers and set 1 as a default, this will be very useful for you to toggle between the different launchers
*13) Market History Manager
- 1 click to delete the history in Market, very useful and straightforward
*14) ToDo List Widget
- easy to add, edit, and delete lists. very handle and simple to use.
Hope that list helps people! *phew* that took awhile to type it up =P
*starred ones are the ones I think are most useful.

Ghost Commander... A great Dual-pane file manager(like Norton Commander, FAR manager etc), making it very easy to copy and paste between folders in your SDcard, both panes are individually configurable and its the only file manager that i use...
Its a free download from android market
Note: if you've already used dual-pane file managers handling this is a breeze, but for first timers there is a small learning curve
Thanks ECBomb for sharing the names of those apps..will try n let u know

AngryGPS instructions

Does anyone know hope to use angry gps? Lbtest I could use slightly, but I havent even figured out how to open this.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
+1Trying to access it too. When I run it, it takes me directly to the Location and Security Settings. Woo, but not what I am looking for.
Since I use LauncherPro, I create a shortcut on my homescreen for LauncherPro activities and select AngryGPS>com.android.angryGPS.AngryGPS and it opens up just like LBS test mode. There might be an easier way to access it, or different ways to access it on different launchers, but this works for me.
After playing around with it on adw, stock tw from juwes and sony arc launcher, its the same to create a shortcut for both.
(long press)> shortcut> activities> angry gps> first one in menu.
»£bump}^°
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
You type it into the phone browser (or make a shortcut) - it's the same as in Froyo: *#3214789650#.
As to what to do when you are inside... Still figuring that out.
Once you open it up, it's exactly like LBSTestmode.... Open it, got to settings and you can mess around with the general settings and the SUPL settings until you find the config that works best for you.
I haven't had to change mine at all, I just use whatever settings were in place and I've been getting 10 second locks with 6-8 satellites within 5 meter accuracy and spot on tracking.

The easiest way surprisingly is just to download and install Launcher pro........NO YOU DONT USE THE launcher, but it adds the activities shortcut to any launcher..........Figured out that the hard way.
Another way to get access to a lot of things like this is to use the app SGS Toolbox. It gives you access to things like the GPS menu and selecting data networks. I use it because I dont want an extra shortcut just to adjust GPS settings every once and a while.

Which ROM? Android version?
It's going to be gingerbread. Before that it was called lbstest mode.
Try the SGS Secret Code app. It provides one-click access to many (all?) secret code screens.

Google Navigtion - choose destination

I am not sure but I think some previouse version of Google Navication had the option to choose the destination from the map. I dont see it now and wondering if it was ever there or if it disapeared from this version or just from my SGT.
My SGT has an app labeled "Navigation" maybe you can look for the app in the market, or have someone send it to you.
Thnanks mate! I have it as well but cant choose destination off the map. Only options are to:
* Type destination,
* Choose from contacts,
* Choose from starred places.
Sent off the Blue Marble using GT-P1000 on Overcome 7 v4 via XDA App
Long Press the destination on the map.
Then there will pop up a square with info on the place you pressed. Klick it an you get some options. Here you can chose navigate....
Sorry for my lousy English....

Thanks mate. Couldn find it before coz I kept looking for it in Navigation when obviously should have been looking in Maps.

Is there a way to be able to set Google Now to open on a long press of the home button? When I do it, it gives me the option to hit the Google Now link but can't I set it like s voice was before? Thanks!

You can do this under CM 10. I am not sure if you are rooted and interested in using that ROM though.

Download an app from the Play Store called Home2 Shortcut. This will allow you to change the double click of the home button to use Google Now, or any other application that you want instead of S Voice.
I do that with my un-rooted Galaxy S3 i535. It's fantastic, just beware because Google Now doesn't play nice with your bluetooth headset is all.

[GUIDE] Native Download Booster Settings (No Root)

A lot of people have been having trouble finding out how to enable download booster and until a developer makes a mod to enable the native settings in your settings this is the only wave I know of to be able to do so.
In order to do this you will need to use a third party launcher. In this example I use Nova Launcher - launchers like Apex should work as well (as well as most decent third party launchers).
1. Go to home screen.
2. Hold down your finger on the screen till menu pops up.
3. Click on Shortcuts.
4. Click on Activities.
5. Scroll down to "Settings" and click on it which will open up a long list of things.
6. Scroll through the list till you find Download Booster. Click on it.
7. Now you will have a shortcut on your home screen that will take you to the download booster settings screen.
8. Enable download booster.
9. Enjoy
P.S. Wasn't 100% what forum to put this under as it's obviously not "development" nor did I think it was general or Q/A so I thought here was the most fitting (as it is kinda an "app" I guess?) - mods feel free to move to this to the appropriate forum if need be.

Also like the S5 from Sprint its there but thats all it is until someone can get it working. When its working it will show both download speeds and show the icon as bright not grey. Unless its working for someone else i just know its not for me same issue with s5 until someone modded it.
I understand what this does, but what is the benefits of enabling this? Does this interfere with Wifi calling?

Heads up, the Galaxy Tools app in the playstore will add the native icon to the quick settings in the notification bar....just select "Add all Notification Toggles"....throws a few extra in there as well
Works
Its there but don't "work"
I found some other settings that were thought to be lost to this phone. Smart scroll, and hand gesture call answering. Do the same thing, shortcuts, activities, settings, smart scroll and air gesture.
