[Kernel][EI22][BML/MTD][TW/CM7/MIUI]Shadow-v1.0.6+/VoodooColor, OC/UV (6/3/12) - Epic 4G Android Development

Greetings everyone,
May I present you with ShadowKernel.
I fully acknowledge the other outstanding kernel developments you have to choose from, but I would appreciate any feedback from anyone willing to test this for me. I believe it to be stable, as I have not experienced any reboots or other issues that I can tell, but I'm sure the heavy users out there can help me confirm that.
My main concern right now is to hear what you have to say regarding the voodoo color because there wasn't exact code for our current source. This is a result of hours of code comparison with sources from thomasskull666 & earthbound (thanks to them), and multiple Nexus kernels.
Huge thanks to the many talented developers out there including (in no particular order) but not limited to:
chris41g, mkasick, Rodderik, nubecoder, earthbound, toadlife, thomasskull666, DRockstar, supercurio, Ezekeel, SenseiSimple, noobnl, xcaliburninhand, k0nane
See the feature table below the download section. I've maintained the same features in all the kernels (except where noted), so just download the corresponding kernel for your ROM and flash in CWM.
***This is the thread for the EI22, CM7 & MIUI Shadow Kernels.***
If you need the EL30 TW kernels, see this thread.
If you need the FC09 TW kernels, see this thread.

I've flashed the samurai kernel and back to this the other day without issue, but I suppose I can't guarantee anything.

Please dont ever mess with frame rates. I like 60 with vsync like stock.

It really makes a big difference. I don't watch many videos. Hopefully someone can comment on how they look with the new colors compared to the stock.

Thanks, I've been toying with ROM and kernel development for a little while now for learning & personal use. Finally have something to contribute. I'll be coming out with my ROM soon along with some themes.

Great to see another kernel!
Would be good for the users and testers to know what your goals for this kernel are -- Stability, performance, battery life, multimedia quality, or quantity of features (governors, CPU scales), etc -- and in what priorities/order.
EDIT: Does this kernel have toadlife's patch for wifi-related reboot and txqlen?
EDIT 2: And I like that your Github is forked off opensource.samsung.com. Easy to trace your patches.

All of the above. But seriously I hadn't thought of it that way yet. Stability and performance for sure, then I can focus on tweaking for battery life. I would like to add in some overclocking and voltage control support as well.
And no, this does not have any of toadlife's patches. I have been watching his thread but I don't have any reboots. Maybe he or anyone else with those problems will test this for issues.

Voodoo color is awesome. All around great kernel.
Very fast.

Hyperion V2.3 ROM
This is based on the official 2.10.401.5 Sense 3 base for the Desire S, with several tweaks and optimizations, plus a modified UNITY kernel (credits for great base go to m-deejay). The V2.0 Hyperion kernel is a close match to the Endymion V2.0 kernel, as I intend to merge both. I changed the scheduler back to CFS until I have time to check what's the issue with rosie framerate on sense 3.5.
The kernel includes:
- Working front facing camera
- Working stereo video recording
- No default undervolting
- deadline IO Scheduler
- CFS Scheduler
- Tiny RCU and other optimizations
- GPU tweaks

V2.0 solves all issues identified in previous versions, except dock mode (removed from rom altogether). This is the fastest and smoothest sense ROM I've ever had on my Desire S, hence the bump in major version number.
V2.1 changes base to the latest Saga RUU, and also completely cleans up the stock look (thanks Oly!). This means the basic V2.1 installation will resemble stock completely, no fancy animations. I'll add those as addons. Also the memory management was altered to improve multi-tasking.
V2.2 Contains an updated kernel with no default undervolting plus some tweaks. The default governors were changed to virtuous (smartass v2) for both sleep and awake. It also includes some pre-installed applications. Check the changelog for more details.
V2.3 Is a small update fixing audio stuttering when unlocking the phone and during other operations. This was caused in the previous update, but only now reported. The update is cumulative, you can install over V2.1 or V2.2.
Description:
- Base: Desire S official 2.10.401.5
- Kernel: Hyperion V1.2 - BFS Scheduler, Deadline IO Scheduler
- OC limited to 1459200Hz (come on guys, be sensible)
- No default undervolting
- Other performance teaks
- All the other optimizations that come with the UNITY kernel
- Android 2.3.5
- Sense 3.0
- Advanced Power Menu
- deodexed
- zip-aligned
- Added root permissions and SuperUser
- Unsecured boot image
- Ad Blocker pre-installed (hosts files, no extra program needed)
- Stock boot up and down animations
- Busy box
- runparts enabled (init.d scripts)
- init.d tweaks
- virtuous OC daemon installed
- Performance and smoothness tweaks
- GPU rendered UI
- Beats, SRS and Dolby audio added (all merit to lyapota)
- RCTeam tweaks (Thanks to capychimp, sebastiaan15 and Mike1986) including:
- turn on/off CRT animation on screen off
- turn on/off CRT animation on screen on
- Overscroll settings
- Ability to choose Android Lockscreen
- Custom function for right button on launcher
- Choose between 4x4 and 5x5, transparent or not app drawer
- Choose "normal" or kinetic scroll on app drawer
- Ability to show/hide Recent Apps on notification bar
- Ability to customize which quick settings you want to see (sense 3.5 style)
- Ability to chose to show quick settings by default when no notifications are active
- Enable/disable Unlock animation (the spinning carousel)
- Enable 3D home
- Choice of looks - stock or Honey HD
- HoneyHD skin added (credits go to original author, he_shteone64, I just got it working on 2.3.5)
- Pre-applied V6 Supercharger memory management - All credits to author at this thread: link
- Super Smooth Rosie - All credits to author at this thread: link - Changes applied directly over Hyperion original Rosie
- All issues detected on previous versions fixed

- Full wipe necessary if not coming from Hyperion!
- If coming from Hyperion older release, clean cache and Dalvick cache in recovery
- Install V2.1
- Install V2.3 Updater
- You're done
Upgrade Instructions:
- If you are already running V2.1, you can just flash the V2.3 updater in recovery with only a Dalvick cache wype.
V2.1 Changelog:
- rebased to 2.10.401.5
- Memory management modified to improve multitasking
- Cleaned up default stock look (no trace of HoneyHD left, thanks Oly!)
- Updated to latest Market
- Updated to latest Maps
- Moved some stuff to /data/app to reduce system footprint
V2.2 Changelog:
- New kernel: upped the version to V2.0
- No default undervolting. People with stable devices under Hyperion previous releases may safely apply 50mV undervolt with OC/UV beater. This way is safer for everyone.
- Some gpu tweaks
- kernel-level support for ext2 and ext3. Together with already included loop device support, should help those people trying to run ubuntu under Hyperion.
- Changed the default governor on both sleep and awake to virtuous (smartass V2)
- Included some pre-installed apps (uninstall what you don't want, or you can safely remove them from the zip before flashing)
- OC/UV Beater V1.5
- Quadrant standard
- ES FIle Explorer
- Updated google maps
- Updated facebook
- Titanium backup
- Rom Manager
- SMS Backup and Restore (a must for people switching roms all the time)
- Slice It. A game. Because I like it.
- Updated Market to Latest 3.3.11
V2.3 Changelog:
- Fixed audio stuttering when unlocking the phone and during other operations.
Enjoy!

Wow!! This looks exciting!
Its good to know new devs are joining our community and helping in the development of this wonderful device.
On behalf of all of us here, i would like to warmly welcome this new venture and thank lowveld for the work he has put in trying to come up with a ROM+Unity kernel combo that aims to be free of the kernel issues we have been having...
The major gripe with Unity v9 has always been camera issues, sd card mount problems, but i hope soon things will be sorted out with more people lending a helping hand to the legendary devs like proxuser (you rock) and mdeejay.

Anybody else with any bugs?
I guess its too early to ask as most people have yet to flash this ROM but i'm so excited just waiting to migrate to this.
Although i must say i thought i had found the perfect ROM on Proxuser's Runny v1.4 and only something really amazing is going to get me to change.
But with unity v9 kernel support, undervolting, new governors and cpu overclocking with all system apps working, i must say this sounds tempting.
Holding out till i get back home and have access to my WiFi so i can set up the new ROM. Will flash in a jiffy the moment i reach home!!

Hyperion V1.0 ROM
To make it perfectly clear, I claim no credit for the kernel base! It's all due to m-deejay fantastic work, I just tweaked the VDD settings and figured out the FFC problem. I only changed the kernel name so there's no confusion with the "official" unity kernel.
- Kernel: Hyperion V1 - modified UNITY V9 with less aggressive UV and working front facing camera!
- OC limited to 1459200Hz (come on guys, be sensible)
- UV 50Mv lower than UNITY V9 (this means it's LESS under-volted, but still lower than stock, lots of people having problems with too aggressive UV)
Could let us have also a flashable kernel? (If possible) Many thanks!

The best ICS build (IMO).
Cheers
* Once again I repeat I am not paid by the team for my comments...well not much anyway
Excellent work. A new rom for a flashaholic.
Yeah I know an update already!
Just rolled out a quick update in the OP and in the OTA!
flappjaxxx OUT!
Just a suggestion, maybe you can add a section on post 1 that mention what works and what does not work properly for current version. That will be helpful
DAMN This **** is SMOOTH!

The stock camera has the same glitches as Lord's build, and Angel camera works fine in both (although Ascension has it built in).
As for comparing them:
Ascension's advantages:
Smoother and faster
Useful CPU tweaking menu (wake and sleep governors + UV options)
Much more stock experience. No extras like 6-bar network or clock AM/PM
OTA updates
Downloadable Ascension mods and tweaks from the menu
Fantastic battery life after flashing LorD's 8.9b6 kernel (but stock kernel isn't that great)
IceColdSandwich's (3.0) advantages:
Much more customization like different batteries, different clock styles, signal bars, 4 and 8 way lock-screen, etc.
Much more non-CPU performance options like KSM and scrolling cache
Great battery life

Smooth as butter so far!
Wow, so far so good. Been using about an hour, running great, and is so far the only ICS Rom I have tried that works with my BT headphones without problems. New daily driver.
@People who are using this rom
I have flashed 3 roms today...i dont want to flash this unless its good. How good is this compared to Lord's Ics? I know that its still WIP. But yeah...thanks
ive been running since it was posted and as previously stated. so far so good. cant really find too much wrong with it. good work guys.
seems to be a bit smoother than lords...
looked nice and smooth..
but ditent seem to like Danish when i tryed to reply a text message and it wouldent use G in a sentense..
so i went back to my backup rom..

Build 3
This release of the rom contains a ramdisk that will scan ext(4,3,2)
filesystems prior to mounting. Repairs are done automatically as
needed so if your filesystems are clean, you shouldn't notice anything
different. If they are corrupt it may take a little longer to boot.
Precautions:
We are asking (insisting) that everyone flashing this version of the
rom do a clean install.
Factory Reset must be run through recovery. The installer is not
capable of unmounting the cache partition that recovery mounts.
The Option inside the installer for clearing Data will reformat
the data partition only. In the future it will clear all the data
that the Factory reset option in recovery does, but for now it is
limited.
We are insisting that Factory Reset be used because it's an almost
guarantee that /data, /cache and perhaps /system are corrupt.
Journals only repair certain types of fs corruption and android
doesn't use fsck to repair filesystems. So overtime, especially
with the use of overclocking and undervolting and unsupported versions
of android, these writeable filesystems get corrupt.
Repairing such corrupted filesystems will yield completely unknown
results as far as files that get cleared or duplicated.
In the future however, you should be able to rely on dirty installs
much more, as those filesystems will not get more and more corrupt
overtime. You should also notice that long term use will not
result in increasing instability.
You can verify that filesystems are being repaired prior to mounting
by checking dmesg via adb or in Terminal. You should not see any
messages about the journal recovering the filesystems when they
are mounted. But more importantly you'll notice things are way
more stable (at least in the force close and random crash department)
Short version:
Boot into recovery.
Factory reset
Install zip
Leave installation options on default settings.
proceed with installation.
*Added AROMA installer v 2.0 per ppl request

EAGLESBLOOD™ ROM INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:
=======================================
**IMPORTANT** - MUST READ CAREFULLY AND FOLLOW COMPLETELY
1. Make a full backup of your current ROM. Then copy it over to PC if you wish.
2. Reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM). *Note* You should always flash CWM using a USB Cable and NVflash; do not 'flash CWM from the ROM Manager app'.
3. To begin start by clicking "Wipe User Data/Factory Reset", this will wipe all data off of the phone's memory (not SD card though).
4. Now click "Wipe cache partition".
5. Then go down to "Advanced > Wipe Dalvik cache".
6. Choose Install zip from "External SD Card". Wait for that to complete and confirm you see an "Installation Complete" message.
7. Now, you must flash the correct Google Apps - GApps ICS (gapps-20120212-ics.zip) ...link below.
Once the gapps are installed you can now click "Reboot System". Failing to complete all of these instructions precisely can potentially leave you stuck in CWM Recovery until you manage to build your way back out. This is not fun, trust us.
9. Done. Enjoy your new ROM!

KNOWN ISSUES / NOTES
- First Boot Installer sometimes fails to complete (usually completes on reboot)
On first boot, unlock the screen and let it sit until
you see all the media scanning notifications stop -
this is because on first boot, there will be some
app installing going on for the apps included, will take about a minute.
If you're coming from a clean install, you will have to set
Swype as your text input in Settings > Locale and Text Settings to start using it.
File system (BML/MTD) SleeperROM will retain your existing EXT4 or YAFFS2(MTD) partition configuration,
but will convert RFS to EXT4 (journaled).
It will otherwise not do any conversion.

Thank You For your ROM Supports
Thanks, good to see other roms supporting FC09 and Classic Touch Wiz. Two quick question no wipe means I can install over existing rom or I can do a full format just to be on safe side? Will this install over cleanGB BML cause I want to move to FC09 to get stupid update killed permanent?
=)

In Theory, no-wipe means you can just install over another ROM, but in practice, be sure to back up first. It's ALWAYS best to start clean and do a full format even though it's annoying... but as far as i go, this update was my perfect excuse to start fresh.
CleanGB and SleeperROM had similar modifications so it should be safe... couldn't hurt to try, and if it doesn't work, clean install.
Good to have you back again .... for awhile there I was afraid some Aggies snuck into Austin and kidnapped you ....... LOL
I thought the Zombie apocalypse had started there...whew... a relief to have you back Sensei!

Thanks for this!!
so i installed the full release over the peoples rom. obviously not a good thing to do but i just wanted to test it without having to restore 70+ apps. swype was fcing and google talk had no video. I managed to get those working although swype has no feedback on the keyboard, not sure if it should or not.
does this come with gtalk with video normally or is that something i would have to add?
at any rate, it doesn't seem to be locking up and i could have angry birds space open and browse the web which was impossible on people's rom.
i notice it seems to take a while to deep sleep though, have to test it more tomorrow and probably do a clean install tomorrow. something about cm_vnote or something like that seems to be doing the wakelock fairly often.
the most major thing i noticed was that gps status will only say its locked onto 2 satellites, no more than 2. its obviously locking onto more though because the error is at like 3 meters and i believe it won't show location on less than 3 satellites. is that just an error with the display on the rom?
Try the gps_fix.

[ROM-JB][OC/UV] CvD-Nibbles 1.6 ~ Custom Kernel ~ GAPPS (Updated: 1/5/13) [TEAM ROOK]

Base: CM10 JellyBean
Kernel: Nibbles v0.1.3
Installer: Aroma
Source Sync & Build Date: 1.05.13
Release Date: 1.05.13
Release Version: v1.6
Packed full of yummy goodness, stability and speed, this ROM is intended to be a daily driver. This is not a test, experiment or buggy piece of nonsense. I started with CM10 Jellybean and added numerous enhancements to improve speed, stability and battery life. Installation is a breeze with Aroma, choose which options and applications you want to have - or run it again to install any apps you may have missed (without having to re-flash the ROM).
Please read the first three posts completely, then read them again before you flash this for the first time. Any notable bugs are located in the post below. If you experience any issues that have not been reported already, please post to the thread. Thanks!

Installation Made Easy:Just download the zip and flash it. The Aroma installer will guide you through a multitude of options, including different launchers, application choices and system options. If you prefer a no fuss installation, there's even an option for a pre-configured base installation. Lastly, if you decide to install any apps you previously chose not to, simply flash the zip and choose the application installer option.

Included Applications:Google Apps 4.1, ROM Manager, Root File Explorer, Accuweather, DSP Manager with BEATS Audio, Goo.im and more! The ROM also includes the new UCLK4 radio as an optional installation.
Under the hood are numerous script tweaks, system tweaks and enhancements to balance performance, stability and usability.

Nibbles Kernel:Up to and including Nibbles v1.4-S, I've been including the TFQ-LZ kernel by thomas.raines. Starting with Nibbles v1.5-S, there is an entirely new kernel dedicated to powering the Nibbles ROM. The Nibbles kernel includes a LOT of new features that cater to all users who want to get the most out of their device. I've included many popular CPU Governors and I/O schedulers to support a wide variety of uses. Additionally, I've made lots of other fundamental changes to the kernel to better balance battery and performance (well beyond what you can do with a handful of scripts) as well as implementing over clocking the CPU to 1.782GHz, Under/Over Volting the CPU at each frequency step and over clocking the GPU.
CPU Governors: intellidemand, pegasusq, gallimaurfy, interactivex, smartassv2, wheatley, interactive, conservative, userspace, ondemand, performance
I/O Schedulers: noop, deadline, cfq, sio, vr, bfq
There are two flavors of the Kernel available now. One with stock GPU clock speeds and the other with a slightly overclocked GPU. Check the download section below.

***DOWNLOAD Nibbles Kernel v0.1.3 HERE!***
Nibbles 1.6 includes stock and Nibbles versions of the kernel as part of the installer. The downloads below are for anyone who wants to use the kernel on any other AOSP JB rom (kernel will not work on TW ROMs).
Both downloads include all of the kernel features mentioned in the OP. The differences between these two is only the GPU speed. You can download and flash either of these at any time without wiping your system. Note that the installation will wipe your cache and dalvik, so after you reboot, let the apps setup and settle for a few minutes.

***Instagram Fix***
The instagram fix included in Nibbles 1.6 is from jee'sgalaxy's post HERE. There are five build.prop values that are edited (Nibbles only required two of them). If you do not use instagram, you can reset these values in build.prop to the following:
debug.composition.type=dyn
debug.mdpcomp.maxlayer=3
dev.pm.gpu_samplingrate = 1 (delete this one)
debug.sf.hw = 1 (this stays the same)
debug.egl.hw = 1 (this stays the same)
( disable dithering as noted in the thread wasn't necessary for the fix )
I included this by default in the ROM because I figured most people use instagram. Either way, if you don't use it, just swap these values back if you want to. Changing them back to stock isn't required unless you notice issues with video related to memory collisions.
Make sure you use a build.prop editor to make the changes, backup your original version and reboot when you are done.

Known Bugs:
Bluetooth may crash the first time you open it. Just relaunch and it should be fine. I don't have a means to test bluetooth, if someone wants to offer up a fix, PM me.
Things of note:
Double check your APN settings after flashing to make sure you're on LTE and it's all correct.
First boot will be slow, have patience. It may take a couple minutes. Subsequent reboots should fly.
If you set your CPU to 196MHz, you will notice some lag when waking up the phone. This is particularly true if you have a live wallpaper.
After first boot, hit the volume rocker to wake up the sound. (This should no longer be an issue)
I no longer support the battery mods from my other thread, while they will work on this ROM they might do something funky. Use at your own risk.

Change Log Information:
There are two places where I publish change information. In the post below and in changelog.txt on Goo.im in each ROM directory. Make sure to read the changelog information before you download and install the ROM. In most cases, the minor version updates simple incorporate patches that have been accumulated since the prior release. If you have installed all applicable patches, you likely won't need to download and install the full ROM.
How to read my version numbers:
I keep them pretty simple to be honest, the first number is a major release. This probably won't change until I move to CM10.1 when it is read. The second number is a compiled release, meaning that I recompiled the source to include significant fixes or updates - you will always need to do a full ROM flash when these are released. The third number is a minor release, as noted above it typically only includes accumulated patches since the last compiled or minor release.

Sounds legit. Thanks for helping me test everything out. I've been running this all day, beating up my phone and battery life and performance have been superb on the Wheatley governor. I plugged in twice to do som ADB stuff, so when I restart from a full charge I'll post up some full results with scren shots.
Great work and thanks again, not only for the bootani(still working on a hybrid) but for the tips on the kernel(thanks to m45 too)!
