[Ubuntu] Q and A, Feature requests for running Ubuntu in Android - HTC Desire S

This thread is for anyone that has any questions about using my guide to installing Ubuntu from here. Or if you have any features that you would like to request are added in the next build of the ubuntu images.
Once I have enough bugs fixed/new features I will release another image.
Also a side note, Ubuntu 12.04 will have much better arm support so once the first stable 'ish' release is available with this new support I will make a build for us to try!

General instruction on how to build firmware for Android devices?

Is there any source/ help/ instruction that I can check out to learn how to design/build Android OS for any supported devices? I would like to learn to see if I can build the firmware for my Eken M0001 using the latest Android version.
i think theunlockr.com has a guide of some sort. i would look there!
Code:
android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Compiling_for_Android
This should get you up and running if you are somewhat familiar with the whole Linux thing. If not I would start out by learning how to compile the kernel and some standard libraries for a regular X86(_64) distro. The approach is pretty much the same, only compiling for android requires a lot more work with cross-compiling and getting a working set of standard libraries for arm.
Oh, and sorry about the link thingie. The administrators of this forum are obviously weak minded and have come up with some totally brain-dead limitations for new users. (A new user is not allowed post links , a good RP system would beat that hands down anytime)
Thanks for the info. I will check those links out.

[Q] Fedora-17-beta-armhfp-xfce on Xoom?

Fedora has released Fedora-17-beta-armhfp-xfce, a system image compatible with Tegra devices. A kernel image is not included. So, my first question is: Are there any kernels being tweaked and developed by xda members that are compatible with the the Fedora release? If not, it appears from the many posts in the forums asking about Linux on arm tablets that there is a void to be filled.
I for one want to be free of big brother "Google" and regain not only full control over my device, but my privacy too. Richard WM Jones describes how he installed Fedora on a Trim Slice with Tegra processors. rwmj.wordpress.com/2012/02/29/trim-slice-pt-3/ Can't this be done with the Xoom using a hacked kernel being tweaked/developed by an xda member? Is a kernel already available with drivers that make the Xoom's hardware fully functional in a Fedora installation?
Can the "U boot" ROM supplied with the Slice be ported to the Xoom? We need help from knowlegeable, experienced developers here at xda to make the possibilities a reality.
Thanks,
Armido
Rooted Xoom M601, Quad Band, wireless+3g, Stock Honeycomb version 3.2 Primary usage: Linux Open source Navigation program OpenCPN - via Galoula's Linux Installer/Debian lxde.
Fedora does not replace android but can be installed.

May 26, 2013: The short answer is apparently no. Not even Ubuntu Touch will replace the android core. However a growing number of linux distributions can be installed using installers like 'Linux Installer' downloadable for free from GooglePlay. This includes Fedora. What is the point of having Ubuntu Touch on tablets if the rich, robust and numerous existing linux programs will not run on Ubuntu Touch?

[Q] The Nexus 7 got official Ubuntu 12.07 support, possible for us too?

Just asking
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1959834
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Nexus7/Installation
for -official- ubuntu support you should ask to ubuntu support people, not here.
if you just want linux for the tf300t(G) there's a thread in development section from CB22 about archlinux.
doing the same for ubuntu shouldnt be too difficult, its mostly a question of different packaging and dependancies.

Ubuntu and P3100

Hello. I want to ask is it possible to run ubuntu on SGTab2? I mean pure desktop ubuntu, not mobile one, nor as virtual machine. All instructions I found deals with Nexus 7. The best will be installing Ubuntu as dualboot to Android(I'm using NEXT kernel, it supports dualboot). Does anybody know how to install it? Or maybe somebody even tried it?
Thank you for answer

Thankyou, but no, not Ubuntu Touch. I asked about Ubuntu Desktop I heared that Nexus 7 users compiled VCMI(opensource version of heroes 3) right in it and are playing on their devices. I want it too Android port was abandoned more than year ago and no one pick it up...

[Completed] Help with compiling SlimKat and adding features

This is purely for my own learning experience..
I'd like to try compiling SlimKat (https://github.com/SlimRoms/platform_manifest)
for my d2lte device as well as maybe adding a few features
(And yes, I know that SlimKat is already available for my device) I just want to try doing this myself...
So I know you need Linux or Mac OSX or Windows with this special program (forgot its name)
I'm using Ubuntu 14 LTS in a virtual machine
The first part I'm unsure about is which source to use. (Slim has 2 links) I know d2lte is a qcom device, but I have no idea if it uses CodeAuroraForum trees. I'm guessing yes? -Because the other link is for non qcom
If so, do I download the source from here? git://github.com/SlimRoms/platform_manifest.git -b kk4.4-caf
-And are the commands Shen using here in Terminal the same for Ubuntu 14 (He's using Ubuntu 10)? http://youtu.be/H_ReU-0w4IE
Also, how would I add something like Screenrecord from ChameleonOS like Carbon did or PAC?
I'm unable to follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2547196
as I don't understand it...
Before all of this, I will try compiling Cyanogenmod from source just so I can get familiar with this process..
Thanks in advance for any answers I recieve!
Hi!
I suggest you ask the experts at slim. They are usually very helpful with this kind of thing.... Please try asking here..

Good luck!
