Hi all,
The samsung email app notifications do not appear to be getting picked up by any other launchers apart from TW. Has anyone had the same findings and what are people using for mail? I do miss the standard android email client especially as all launchers could happily pick up on the notifications. Are samsung doing anything different? I really don't want to go back to TW as there is no landscape mode and this beasty thrives in landscape mode, but it's the only launcher I've had that manages to capture all notifications properly.
Thoughts and experiences gratefully received
Seems to be sorted now with the new ADW release - happy again

I am looking for a way to have notifications appearing on the dock icons for K-9 (email), SMS (I use GoSMS) and Google Voice Voicemail.
I can't grow fond of the notification bar -- it gets too busy, messy looking for me. So I generally hide it.
But I still want to see message and voice mail counters on my dock icons.
It seems that the stock apps can do it, but I like a unified email app, and use Google Voice for my voicemail. Plus, I like my own icons....
Anyway this can be done (and what is the reason that this feature is not not built into any of these 3rd party apps)?
This works just fine with ADW notifier. Not sure if you need ADW Launcher EX or if the free one will work.

Thanks! This is a good reason to switch to ADW Launcher (even though I was happy with Go Launcher).
ADW Notifier is absolutely great for everything else, but it does not notify of Google Voice messages
Anyone with a solution to GV notifications?
Why is it that none of the third party applications use dock notifications?
For instance, I really like GO SMS, but when I have it in my dock, I don't get notifications of new messages.
The same is is a lot of other apps, like K-9, and even Google Voice doesn't have them (which is totally inconsistent with the rest of their apps, like Phone and GMail).
Is there a technical issue with showing notifications in the Dock, or is it that developers just don't think about it.
I personally hate the notification bar, which often gets cluttered, has randomly looking icons popping up, and is too small. So I finally decided to hide it, and I am much happier with the look of my screen now
It'd be great if we could have the option of In-Dock Notifications.
ADW Notifier is absolutely great, and I LOVE IT!, but it covers only a handful of apps (although in Chuck Norriz Mode it works with GO SMS, but not with Google Voice).

I assume you're referring to adw dock notifications. The reason most apps do not have them is because the developers have to specifically add adw notification support. Not everyone uses adw and not every developer knows/cares about adw notifications
I use launcherpro and I have dock notifications. Its not just adw. But LP and adw together make up most of the launchers on the phones out there. So I would say this was a valid question.

I am not sure this is the reason -- I just downloaded the Phone.com app (the VOIP service I use) and it shows a notification counter bubble on the icon whenever I receive a voicemail on Phone.com.
Just like Google's own Phone app, which shows bubble notifications while in the dock.
I am starting to think that most developers are simply ignoring this, and not implementing on icon notifications.
Which is a real bummer, because virtually everyone I have mentioned this to, notes that this is the one feature which prevents them from using third-party email or text apps.
LauncherPro does notifications only for the stock Google apps, AFAIK, and that's why I stopped using it (and I stopped using Go Launcher for the same reason). ADW Launcher EX with ADW Notifier is the only one which offers the ability to have on-icon notifications for third party apps. Please correct me if I am wrong.
BTW, after I uninstalled and reinstalled ADW Notifier after my Nexus S upgraded to 2.3.2, now my Google Voice icon in the Dock is popping a notification bubble when I get a voice mail.
It is not a counter bubble, but only a question mark bubble, but it's still a notification
I have turned on Chuck Norriz Mode and included Google Voice in the whitelist.
I really wish developers would start including on-icon notifications natively....
Hi gojimi,
as a noob, I cannot ask my question directly to your VTL Launcher thread but I have read it thoroughly and since this matter has not been discussed so far, I decided to ask you. But first - VTL is the best launcher for my Galaxy Tab. I have tried them all. Even the biggest like ADW and GO Launcher EX are not so cunningly coded. I have bought the VTL from the market, although there are so many ways to get it free. I simply think that good things must be donated. It is trully a Tablet Oriented Launcher. Especially after I flashed the Gingerbread to the Tab, everything is so snappy.
And, my question:
Can you make some additional add-on, or just include it in some version to come the option to have the little red circle showing up over the app icon of mail and messages that indicates how many unread emails, gmails or text messages there are.
Apart from the stock Samsung launcher, I think only the Go Launcher has this add-on available.
Thank you!
unread count
i would also like to see this available for vtl launcher
I am quite confused at this time in technology we can't have the incons for emails show how many messages are available for individual accounts. I don't mean gmail but exchange etc. HTC does this for sense. Are there any roms that do this or something i am missing here? its ridiculous.
anyone know anything?
I would love to have some suggestions to this, too.
The included email app has this functionality to some extent. But, it only seems to works if you put in a shortcut to the entire inbox, and not individual accounts. Looks like the functionality goes away if you use another launcher.
And gmail's latest version doesn't allow 3rd party apps access to that information. So, the couple apps and launchers that used to give an unread counter for gmail, don't anymore.
Maybe try another 3rd party email client?
I tried a few 3rd party Apps. No go

"Enhanced Email" the app will allow a desktop widget that shows you how many unread emails you have.
You can also add the widget to your lock screen using Widgetlocker as the lockscreen app.
So I don't have to log into my phone to see how many unread emails I have. I simply press my power button and look at the lock screen..

Hi All,
My very first post on XDA forums, i have used these forums for great help in the past.
I'm a little stumped at the moment, i am using Dodol Launcher on my Nexus 5 with Lollipop OS, i'm about 90% happy with the whole launcher, just need to know if there's any good notification badge applications out there for Ebay? so when i get notifications in Ebay, the badge app icon with notification count comes up on the homescreen icon? An app which lets me select which apps show homescreen unread badge counts on the icon would be perfect!
Also, is there a good email app which supports multiple email accounts (Gmail, Yahoo etc) all in one, and will combine the unread messages as a badge app count on the homescreen icon?
Any suggestions would help, please don't mention another launcher as i'm quite happy with Dodol at thei stage.
Thanks!
The email app you need is my mail. I use it and it is superb. Takes all accounts plus you get an email account from them which just uses your phone no as a pass word so can only be used on your phone. Makes for really good names. As you put say your name then its just @MY.com. I've Gmail Hotmail etc on it and it takes nova notification badges
