Uh... I assume that you are talking about the screen with the 10 or so options. You navigate it with the volume keys and power button selects... (I don't know how much you know.. no means to insult you..) then wipe data/factory reset... (under advanced..) fix permissions... wipe dalvik cache. Then install zip.. full zip (not update) and find the ROM you flashed on. Reflash it. Then reboot.
Thank me if this helps... and if you get stuck in bootloop try again. If not, you might want to odin. There are atleast 5 threads on this under Q&A and I don't want to start another one. So read them and you will get the answer.
Alright man, no offense but I'm sick of seeing this crap. Read, read, read... and then read again. You can easily find all of these questions with a quick Google search. The point is, if you don't even really know what Clockwork Mod or Voodoo Lagfix is, then you have no business flashing. Read up on things and then try it again. Not trying to be rude, but you've posted something almost every single flashing step asking for help.

I rooted my Thunderbolt with no problems. But how do I flash Roms and Kernels?
For instance. I was in ROM Manager and i wanted a Kernel. I downloaded it and it said to start in Recovery. I come from a Fascinate. I am use to seeing a green screen. Instead, This phones boots to the white screen. The same screen I saw when rooting and had to push the PG05 file.
It always, only lets me check Boot loader, Where it then updates something and it takes a long time. So it updates and says Reboot. I restart and I am back to freaking stock and wants me to set up my phone for first use. This is really annoying. What am i doing wrong? I now have to root it all over again I feel like a dog chasing his tail.
Edit: Deleting my wrong advice. Oops.

You didn't flash the recovery. Open up ROM Manager and at the top click flash clockwork recovery and follow the prompts. You can't flash anything until you have a recovery.
Nothing fishy. I am honestly in need of help. As for posting in the wrong spot, I apologize. I do not usually post here, Just read.
I re rooted and flashed clockwork. I put a kernel on my sd card. Removed the PG05 file.
I then went back to ROm Manager and selected Reboot to recovery.
It took me to the white screen again. I push BOOTLOADER
And it flashes something quick. I read PG05 as it scrolls fast. But i took that off?
The Zip i placed on the card never tries to read.
So whats wrong? Why doesnt the Clockwork screen look like it did in past?
I am not pulling anything. I really can not figure this out.
I dont need your link mexiken, Thanks. Can i leave a couple for you?

OK, it goes without saying that to do rooting and flashing you need to have at least a basic understanding of the English language, a decent IQ and the ability to follow basic instructions.
However, with the CWM mod that's out there for this phone, there are dangers in trying to use for anything other than flashing. IMO, the problem is that those discussions are getting buried in long threads that were originally meant for other Subjects. I feel that CWM needs to have a thread of its on to benefit EVERYONE, especially the newbies. So I am starting it off with this simple instruction:
DO NOT TRY TO USE A ROM MANAGER AT THIS TIME! THE DEVS WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN YOU CAN USE IT
ALSO; DO NOT USE CWM TO RESTORE AT THIS TIME YOU WILL BE BRICKED
#2 IF YOU WANT TO GET INTO CWM FROM START-UP TO FLASH A ROM - HOLD DOWN THE VOL UP BUTTON + HOME BUTTON + POWER BUTTON, WHEN YOU SEE THE SAMSUNG LOGO, RELEASE THE POWER BUTTON.
TO END THE CONSTANT QUESTIONS ABOUT THE "GO BACK" MENU OPTION: SCROLL COMPLETELY THROUGH ALL MENU OPTIONS TWICE, THE GO BACK OPEN WILL THEN APPEAR
I ask the devs to post info. here even if it has been posted in one of the threads.
Forum Management FTW!
If one of the devs could throw up the file to flash CWM and the instructions, that might be helfpful as well.
Restoring currently has a bug that bootloops a device.
It should be noted that currently there is no go back option either. To enable this scroll through the menu 3x and select an option, go back will now appear.

Huh?? So if you try a recovery it bricks your phone???? or are you still able to get into recovery and reinstall a ROM?
If your are unable to get into recovery can you at least restore and Odin?

Not sure an odin restore is helping people.
I have a theory on a way to fix a stock recovery bootloop but that would require a bootlooped device which I'm not willing to do...

I have found pressing the vol up and vol down at the same time enables the "go back" option. It will state that it is enabled.
It will pop up when you select another option first.

On the Fascinate when you flashed CWM, Stock recovery would come up the first boot, then you would flash an update.zip that took you to CWM and you could flash a compatible kernel and you were on your way no more stock recovery. I don't know if something like this could work to get ppl unlooped or not, just throwing it out there.
And ShotgunSam you might as well add don't restore w/ CWM in your big red warning.

Well, I'm already stuck there, if your idea isn't too complex, I can try it out
I have one that was bricked for this reason. If anyone has any ideas I will test them out. I am good with adb shell and have been trying to figure out how to change the bootmode=7 which I think is the sdcard to 6 which I think is the nand. Can't find where the file is in the system because I can't boot. Or a signed update zip that boots Android of the sdcard like the hd2 might work.

Go to the epic 4g forums and in development you'll find a thread that contains an update.zip that will use cwm 3.0.2.x. adb push that update to your sd card or just transfer it. Flash jts cwm compatible kernel through odin then try applying the update.zip.
Just a theory. If cwm boots, you can then flash a rom and that may work.

Thanks OP for this tread. I agree 100%.
1) I think some "bootloopers" have had success entering download mode when their SD card was pulled.
2) Have any brickers/bootloopers tried the JIG method to force download mode?
Google JIG:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSaeaAcJHqw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjDkShT-65Y
http://samsungjigs.blogspot.com/
http://shop.ebay.com/skisky1/m.html
3) Also, I *think* someone who had bootloops was able to clear his data/cache folder somehow/someway. And I *think* he was either able to stop the bootloops or at least get into download mode. But maybe I am thinking of something else here.
Would empty cache/dbdata/movinand.bin files be helpful for Odin? We could rip them out of one of the Fascinate Odin packages to be included with a "Restore to stock" Odin package. Based on the error I've seen of someone that tried to restore, it looks like /data is getting FUBARd and that's causing the problem, but it's not something I want to personally test since my phone is working.
Anyone having issues after a restore, please see if you have adb shell access. If so, please grab a logcat and post it here.

Hi all,
I'm having an issue and hope someone can point me to the right direction (thanks).
I followed the all the steps from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052064) and after the rom manager asked me to reboot my phone and it went into the endless boot looping. The LG screen show up for around 15 seconds and went back to do the same thing over and over again.
Here are what I've tried so far.
1. Remove the battery to turn back on and issue still persist
2. Tried using the Power button + Volumn down to boot into recovery mode. What it did here was the screen shows the android guy jumping out of the box for around 20 seconds and the screen turn off, then the LG login screen comes back doing it things again.
I have very limited knowledge on android base so I'm not sure what else to try to get my phone back to life again.
I had a post on that thread to ask some other people in there but they seem to ignore my post so if anyone here could help me please, I would appreciate it.
Did you nvflash recovery? If so reflash the stock rooted rom (or any other you want). If you didn't nvflash the recovery you going to have to now to fix the situation..

Unfortunately, I don't think he can do that if he can't boot into recovery at all.
@justin
I had the same problem with my old G2, I couldn't boot into recovery and ended up getting a new phone because no one knew what to do to fix it. Since you didn't use Nvflasher to flash clockworkmod recovery, you can't boot into recovery manually, you have to use the ROM manager app to boot into recovery.
I'm not sure what you can do to fix it honestly, I spent days searching for answers

I don't think people can easily throw away a good phone like this. Hope there is a resolution for this very soon

Noob + endless bootloop + no recovery = brick

I followed the instructions there, I previously had SkyICS 9.4 on my Skyrocket. Since installing those instructions, I can't boot or do anything else. When I turn my phone on, the Samsung logo pops up for a second, disappears, pops up again, goes to ANDROID logo for a few seconds, then repeats that process or turns off. I can't seem to get to any kind of recovery mode.
I just want to know it's not bricked...
Anyways, if anyone could give me any insight at all, it would be extremely appreciated. If I was too vague in a particular area just ask and I'll answer. I'm not very knowledgeable on this subject.
Thanks for any help.

No, I read somewhere that I might not need to do that (different site) and I didn't know what it was.
So what do I do now?
You fall into this category. If you don't agree thats ok..
TAKEN FROM THE OP........
[*]The only people who have a hard time flashing are Gingerbread users. Its hit or miss. I dont know what else to do. Most people who cant flash find that Darkside SuperWIPE fixes it and the ROM will flash! (DONT FORGET put on your sdcard before your WIPE)
Whenever I get into a pickle, this is what I do. That script is a game changer .

I'm not saying I don't agree with you, you undoubtedly know much more than I. My question is what is my best course of action now? Should I take my MicroSD card out, put the program on it, and put it back in my phone? Would that even help, as I can't get to any kind of boot screen anyways or way to use the software if it were on my phone?
Your phone is still fine.
All you need to do is pull your battery. Now, hold Vol up and down while you put it back in/turn the phone on until the first samsung logo appears. Then let go. This will get you into recovery.
From there, you should be able to wipe data. You can also mount the external SD while in recovery and add Darkside wipe, then unmount and run it from the root menu.
After that, things should be fine to re-flash the ROM
Ok I feel a lot better now, that worked. I'm back to ClockworkMod. Gonna start over with DarkSide. Thank you!
[Edit: Everything worked from there on out, ICS is installed now and has booted fine. Thanks again!]
Hi.... Just paid $160 for this dumb phone and now after trying to simply put in an SD card, I am now eternally stuck at the startup screen (white 'sidekick' logo).
Tried looking on YouTube for help, but it is waaaaay over my head.... ODIN (what?).... download mode (tried the steps, nothing)
I CAN get to the red text black background Voodoo Lagfix Recovery screen, but all the settings are mind-jarring.
Any feedback? I'd like to get this thing running today.
Jeanie
This means when the person flashed a ROM, they bricked. Make sure to check your mounts, get GOV303 on your SDCard, get to Voodoo and wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache. Then go to Advanced > flash zip > locate GOV303 .zip file and reboot. Should be done.
If not, look for Hemidall one-click, its much easier to use than ODIN is.

above post is right however
I gotta add some stuff. I see the above poster didn't take into consideration that you're either a total n00b or this is your first Samsung or both. So to make it simpler: download heimdall one-click from here http://teamkomin.com/T-Mobile-Sidekick4G/t839-Sidekick4G-UVKG2-One-Click.jar.
You need a PC with java which if you don't have have can be found here http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp. u will need to be In Download mode. Regarding that, this phone is a real ***** when u have to boot to that. For the button combo to work you have to be plugged in, with battery out. Then hold volume down, and the trackball (do not hit power). WHILE HOLDING THESE, PUT THE BATTERY IN. should go straight to the guy with the shovel. If not boot to the red recovery screen u mentioned. Plug into the PC and using adb type: adb reboot download. Should take you to download mode where you can run the heimdall one click. If all goes well you reboot stock.
BTW - if additional help is needed I know this forum is just about dead and not exactly filled with people to help so feel free to pm me for assistance if no one on here replies. I also must add that in perfect working order , $160 is a lil too much in my opinion. So to sell you a bricked one for that much was straight ****ed up.find that dude and beat his ass. Good luck
