I rooted my Thunderbolt with no problems. But how do I flash Roms and Kernels?
For instance. I was in ROM Manager and i wanted a Kernel. I downloaded it and it said to start in Recovery. I come from a Fascinate. I am use to seeing a green screen. Instead, This phones boots to the white screen. The same screen I saw when rooting and had to push the PG05 file.
It always, only lets me check Boot loader, Where it then updates something and it takes a long time. So it updates and says Reboot. I restart and I am back to freaking stock and wants me to set up my phone for first use. This is really annoying. What am i doing wrong? I now have to root it all over again I feel like a dog chasing his tail.
Edit: Deleting my wrong advice. Oops.

You didn't flash the recovery. Open up ROM Manager and at the top click flash clockwork recovery and follow the prompts. You can't flash anything until you have a recovery.
Nothing fishy. I am honestly in need of help. As for posting in the wrong spot, I apologize. I do not usually post here, Just read.
I re rooted and flashed clockwork. I put a kernel on my sd card. Removed the PG05 file.
I then went back to ROm Manager and selected Reboot to recovery.
It took me to the white screen again. I push BOOTLOADER
And it flashes something quick. I read PG05 as it scrolls fast. But i took that off?
The Zip i placed on the card never tries to read.
So whats wrong? Why doesnt the Clockwork screen look like it did in past?
I am not pulling anything. I really can not figure this out.
I dont need your link mexiken, Thanks. Can i leave a couple for you?
I have searched. And searched. I cant get an answer, Which is why i post. Im sure you may need something someday from somewhere and hopefully snide comments come your way! BUD

So, whenever I reboot into Recovery, the white HTC logo pops up, and then fades to black.
From what I've read online, there is a glitch with SLCD screens and CWM.
I've noticed that I can luckily still flash roms. I just have to select "Install Rom from SD Card" from within Rom Manager, and then the phone reboots, goes black... and in a few minutes everything is done. Would be awesome to be able to see the progress.
Anyone know what's up?
So I take it no one else has had this problem?
I have asked you three times now... How did you root the phone, what rom are you running... and so forth.........
No I don't have that prob. But try hitting the menu button when in recovery. It shows the update and when u hit menu again it clears out. If not menu try the other buttons on your screen. See if u can get the thing to switch out... see an update bar etc.

No, you were fine. I definitely should have posted more information. I was spamming my problem everywhere, so I couldn't remember which posts to go back and check, haha.
Hey, everyone. How's it going? I have been running Gingervitis 1.1 (?) and last night I went to uninstall an app that I had installed from the market. My phone froze up and is worthless at the moment. I can boot up, but I cant do anything. I see my wallpaper and the taskbar (even it is a little off), but that is it. If I hold power and volume down while booting it goes to the menu, but it automatically chooses to update the radio. I can't choose to do anything else. Wtf? Can I fix this?
Also, the phone will ring, but I can't do anything about that either.
I appreciate any help.
Hmm not sure I can be much help but you could try and get into recovery from there, rename a file say maybe a Rom to PG05IMG so when in hboot it tries to load it? hey just trying to help here and not sure it gonna work but could try a couple more ideas until someone smarter pops in. Sure your not bricked though.
If you can get into hboot you're not bricked. It sounds like you have a PG5... file still on your sd card. Take it out of the phone and load into your computer to delete that file. Put the card back in and you should now be able to select recovery in the hboot menu.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
last i checked, a brick just sat there. so if your phone does more than set there, no it's not. it can probably be fixed. good luck.
power down your phone, take out your sd card and insert it into a computer. delete the pg#### file from the root of your sdcard. insert card in to phone, power back up.
try taking out your SD card and connecting it to computer, rename the PG05img to something else. then you should be able to hboot and get into recovery
Awesome. I'll go buy a card reader and see what I can do. I will post back in a bit.
Thanks to everyone so far.

After your able to get back into recovery. Try to run logcat from adb and see where it errors out after you reboot. If you can determine the broken app, you can uninstall it from adb. If not just reinstall the Rom from recovery. If all fails wipe and install clean. Good luck

One more "Oh noooo... Wait really? WHEW!!!! It's not bricked afterall." save on XDA.
They saved me once too. Glad you're up and running. Patience is key and so many people around here seem to be so quick to send the phone back, blame the developer and post how the rom bricked their phone, then start a thread about "Rumor Verizon is tracing all phones that spontaneously combusted to rooting. Am I getting Busted?"
Again, nice job on the save
Rooted Thunderbolt on BAMF Sense 3.0 RC 4 with MR2 radio and latest dreamKernel.

There was no reason for you to root without first reading everything. Also there was no reason to root if your not good with phones or computers....just sayin. Please search.
I got your 10 char right here
Wow man best advice is the one given above. I searched for weeks for all issues before I tempted to root. Then days for the issues on custom ROMs. As well as radios. I dont bother with anything else but those. I would say get the rooted ATT ROM (PD98IMG) file, pull battery out of phone then put back, then boot into bootloader by holding volume down and power button at same time. If phone goes to bootloader it will recognize the PD98IMG zip and load it. it will ask if you want to install, just hit volume up for yes and it will do its thing. I couldn't find the page for the ROM so I loaded mine to megaupload it includes the radio -26.10.04.03_M. If you find it in Development Section dont forget to THANK the developer, I TAKE NO CREDIT FO IT. Just place zip file in root of phone micro sd card (not in a folder). (I always use the gold card I made to root the phone). You may have to take card out of phone and use adapter to place zip in itthen put back into phone. AS ALWAYS ON HERE FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK.
AGAIN AS ADVICED ABOVE " RESEARCH" before anything.

Hope it helps

PD98IMG is not a ROM, it's a radio file. Incorrectly telling him to flash this may brick his phone. Be sure you know what you're talking about before you post help.

He is talking about the s-on stock method. And yes he could do this and then try the hack kit. Then boot into recovery and flash cm7. Maybe it was a bad flash. But yes he should search, for the above info, but remember this is q/a. We were all noobs, and still have lots to learn.

Just a fyi...a PD98ING file is not always a radio file. Naming a file that's tells hboot to flash that file.
Splash screen downloads are named that as well. But back to what I said before. Please search.

No problem
I successfully rooted my G2x and attempted to flash the hellfire sandwich rom. I believe I did everything correctly, but I have wound up in a situation identical to what is described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059155
I have attempted the suggested recovery steps, but my computer does not detect the g2x when holding the volume buttons and then connecting.
Any help would be greatly appreciated I am more than willing to donate to anyone able to help me out of this mess.

Heheh...actually I didn't follow the directions! The ones that I was watching showed an error message popping up, and to then look in the device manager; I got an error message once but thought it was wrong and then kept trying to replicate it, but no error message showed. I just hadn't thought to just look in the device manager, and when I did, there it was! ^_^

Not impossible, just improbable, if you attach the phone with something which operates at a file-system level you can brick it. Granted with NV flash, we can NV flash CWM back on and we know we can flash a baseband, so there's not much else which we could access that we could permanately screw-up which can't be unscrewed in some fashion.
hope you have the july baseband before rooting, or else you made an extra step for yourself
I don't know where else to turn here. I don't have enough posts to reply to the actual thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1570498
I followed the instructions there, I previously had SkyICS 9.4 on my Skyrocket. Since installing those instructions, I can't boot or do anything else. When I turn my phone on, the Samsung logo pops up for a second, disappears, pops up again, goes to ANDROID logo for a few seconds, then repeats that process or turns off. I can't seem to get to any kind of recovery mode.
I just want to know it's not bricked...
Anyways, if anyone could give me any insight at all, it would be extremely appreciated. If I was too vague in a particular area just ask and I'll answer. I'm not very knowledgeable on this subject.
Thanks for any help.

No, I read somewhere that I might not need to do that (different site) and I didn't know what it was.
So what do I do now?
You fall into this category. If you don't agree thats ok..
TAKEN FROM THE OP........
[*]The only people who have a hard time flashing are Gingerbread users. Its hit or miss. I dont know what else to do. Most people who cant flash find that Darkside SuperWIPE fixes it and the ROM will flash! (DONT FORGET put on your sdcard before your WIPE)
Whenever I get into a pickle, this is what I do. That script is a game changer .

I'm not saying I don't agree with you, you undoubtedly know much more than I. My question is what is my best course of action now? Should I take my MicroSD card out, put the program on it, and put it back in my phone? Would that even help, as I can't get to any kind of boot screen anyways or way to use the software if it were on my phone?
Your phone is still fine.
All you need to do is pull your battery. Now, hold Vol up and down while you put it back in/turn the phone on until the first samsung logo appears. Then let go. This will get you into recovery.
From there, you should be able to wipe data. You can also mount the external SD while in recovery and add Darkside wipe, then unmount and run it from the root menu.
After that, things should be fine to re-flash the ROM
Ok I feel a lot better now, that worked. I'm back to ClockworkMod. Gonna start over with DarkSide. Thank you!
[Edit: Everything worked from there on out, ICS is installed now and has booted fine. Thanks again!]
