My OG Droid would autoconnect to my head unit every time I tuned the car on. Skyrocket, on the other hand is paired, but never wants to connect.
I have to turn bluetooth off then on, connect and then it will be working. Sometimes it only connects audio. Other times it connects audio and phone functions. It is really inconsistent and driving me nuts.
I bought a aux to bluetooth converter and with it too, it pairs but never auto connects.
This is very annoying and I could not find any references anywhere on how this can be fixed.
Any suggestions are welcomed...
I also have problems with my phone connecting to my cars bluetooth system. Sometimes it auto connects sometimes it won't its about fifty fifty. I have noticed it seems to connect more often with the screen on.

Interesting. I'll see what happens when I have the screen on as I walk in the car. Kinda ridicules that if that increases the likelihood of it connecting....

I really like my Skyrocket, but the simple fact is that BT sucks on the Skyrocket. It's VERY picky about what devices it will connect with, and even then it just doesn't auto-connect sometimes. I t helps to get the BT on-off widget from Droid-mania. If it doesn't connect, turn it off then back on.
Maybe BT will improve on the Skyrocket with ICS.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one with BT troubles... any market link to a good widget ... preferably free

Does it help if you set Bluetooth to "Always Discoverable"? Acura recommends that for HTC and Samsung phones with its HandsFreeLink system. I had problems with an HTC Touch Pro2 not auto-connecting to my RL, but after setting it to be always discoverable it worked fine.
I'll test it with my wife's SR this weekend when she gets back from a trip and see if it makes a difference.

Anyone bought one before for use w/ the Eris? Looking to use this for audio to home stereo or car aux input but also not have to unplug it to use the phone. This way I can use it as hands free in the car. I've found this one for $10.99
http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?productid=41130&cat=3811
and this one for $9.99
http://www.thinksamsungcaptivate.com/samsung-captivate-wired-headsets-10329.html
but it says it's for the Samsung Captivate.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Cool find. Exactly what I have been looking for. I haven't used it or known anyone that has, but I'm probably going to buy it just to try it out. I'll report back with findings unless someone beats me to it.
I personally use a standard line (no mic) keep the phone on my lap and am able to have conversations as if I am wearing a blue tooth headset. Although if this is for your car stereo you do have to take into consideration of the stereo volume cause the conversation can echo back to the person that you are talking to

Assuming that you didnt hit the mute button on the phone, there may be other factors that are giving people on the other end problems hearing you.
a) is your phone rooted? if so, what rom are you using?
Check with the dev who created the rom. Could be possible that you have a older rom version. One of the last updates that VZW pushed out to the eris was for the "sound bug" If you are using a older rom, it could be a possibility that the update was not "cooked" in cause of the date of the ROM. You will see more DEVs stating in their ROM descriptions that is has the recent updates. Using one of thoser ROM may fix that.
b) if your phone is not rooted then is all the updates installed? You can check by doing the following
menu - settings - about phone - system updates
c) depending on where your phone is placed, (ie my lap), seat belts, clothes or some thign else is blocking the phones microphone.
d )slim chance but any chance that the people who can not hear you are only eris users them selves? If yes then see a) and b)
I just use the phone itself as the microphone and the audio routes over the stereo. But of course we don't have laws against talking on the phone here.
Wow, nobody posts in this particular forum. Well, I was just thinking about this type of product today, and seeing it on the forum, I had to buy it.

Hi all
How can we leave wifi ON while we turn off the screen??
If you got the charger in, it will remain on.
But with the charger out. your wifi will be turned off and will be turned on again when you turn your screen back on.
Is there a registry hack so we can leave wifi on just like in windows mobile??
Thanks
You can't. It's not possible yet.

What a pitty! I guess I'll be returning my Lumia 900 since I am sometimes in areas where there is no reception at and I still need work emails and whatssapp notifications.
Major design flaw if you ask me. No clue how MS believes this is a good behavior. At least give us the option!
Well, it's usually a good behaviour because it saves battery and that's pretty sure the reason why MS did it this way. But you're right a setting would be nice. Anyway, the data connection does still work.

If your cellular reception is not phenomenal, 3G drains battery way quicker than WIFI. I have done tests and seen that for myself. Again like you said, an option would be the best thing to do as everyone can be made happy with it.

i bought a belkin songstream bluetooth thinking i could hook it up in my car and it should work for the media but is there anyway to trick the phone to think it can output all audio (media, call, notifications...) through it?
It should be automatic when u pair however if you goto bluetooth settings and than the settings for the device in your paired list there is a check box for media audio. It should be checked when paired and connected

I think you are out of luck in terms of "changing the profile." The profile is set by the device you are connecting to. If the device being connected to doesn't support something then it won't work.
However, if you buy a Bluetooth receiver that has a mic on it, then all your calls will go through the Bluetooth device.
In addition, I don't know if you have the option, but when in a call, is there a "Bluetooth" button on the bottom right of the screen? If so try pressing it during a call. If that works, then you might be able to use root and xposed or some other method to turn that on on every call when connected to Bluetooth.

trick the phone into outputting call audio as media audio
Well actually this can be done. I am pretty sure it can unless there is something hardware related that prevents it. But I am almost 100 percent this can be done. I have done it with things like GPS navigation sounds and things like that, so if the software making the call uses Java, it can be done.
sooo whos going to give this a try hahaha

Lol, since I already did it for other things, I will take a look. I kinda wouldn't mind having the ability myself.
I will make it in the form of an xposed module.
This is how I plan to make it work:
When an app begins to output audio, my module will create a notification. Inside said notification will be three buttons.
Each button will be an audio source:
Phone, Media, System
Clicking on one will change the currently playing audio output source.

I mean, like here:
You place a call, and see the "end call" button and the other buttons for like showing keypad etc
In the bottom left, you should see a "speakerphone" button, after clicking that, while connected to your bluetooth, does it route the audio to the bluetooth device?
I ask because if it follows the android code, it appears that it should route the audio to the bluetooth device.
I had said about forcing it using xposed, and when I do that, you don't hear anything at all lol. The other person cannot be heard. In addition, it doesn't appear to be changeable during a call, the option would have to be applied before a call is placed or before a call is accepted. Which, for your case, one could detect if a bluetooth device is connected that supports audio, and if so, force the call audio to that.
Honestly though, it would be much simpler to buy a bluetooth receiver that supports phone calls. I got one from eBay for 11 dollars and have hooked it into my car without any issues. I may even go about disconnecting the bluetooth mic and routing my car's mic to it instead for better audio quality.
As I stated before, it is possible to force it, just a lot more work involved then forcing other audio (like pandora etc).

Do you think Samsung will fix Bluetooth at some point- or shell I refund this phone? It's not connecting to 50% cars currently available on the street.
mine works in every car i own perfect
I, like many people, I would imagine, only own one car, but it works perfectly with mine both on it's own and in use with Android Auto.
no issues here at all with that.
not working with BMW 2007 and 2010
No issues with BT at all.
Working fine for me as well.
I would be looking at the cars, not the phone. The BT in this phone is top notch.
This is second S8+. And the question is do Samsung fix it? There is whole Internet posts about non working Bluetooth on S8+ so no car problem.

That does not mean it works with every car and as I said there is a lot of proved cases that is not that great. And just to add I've had no problems with S3, S4, S5 and S7Edge, and this post is not competition that it is working or not because obviously it's not for me. What I'm saying is, it's not the PHONES fault. It would be the fault of your car/radio. If it was the phones fault it wouldn't work on anything. Just because your car uses old technology, or bad technology, doesn't mean it's the phones fault.
But I'm saying and provided a link, there are other thousands people with the same problem, so you still think it is just my car(s) problem? And phone is ok? And also no problems with previous galaxys?

Search for any phone in existance and you'll find a thousand people complaining about Bluetooth for said phone without them doing any real troubleshooting to try to narrow down possible factors. Sadly, its usually down to user error, an app or setting that's been altered unknowingly by the user or the fault of the device they're trying to connect to.
I don't believe there to be a widespread problem with the s8 at this point. If I see more evidence in the future I'm happy to concede and admit that there may be a problem but right now this is just the same rehashed complaint that you get with every device these days.

Can you connect to anything via bluetooth? If you can, it's not your phone. Pretty simple answer and how to get it. If you can't connect to ONE device, they might not be compatible, that's part of technology always changing. What kind of vehicle bluetooth are you trying to connect to? Exact make and model, of either the car with built in bluetooth, or the device if it's aftermarket.

Pretty simple- it is fixed by latest Samsung update! I would say thanks for all your advice ie user error or car issue. You're the best!!!:crying:
Hey.
Had this phone for a week now and whilst it's a great phone, there appears to be a few bugs which need sorting. The main one is the incompatibility with the car for controlling apps like Spotify or streaming music via Bluetooth.
The later is a real pain and one which is causing me to seriously consider getting rid of this device as it's a killer feature for me due to the amount of driving I do.
Had a quick look at Talk Sony forum and a few other people have the same problem but as of yet there is no update or word from Sony.
Anyone else have the same experience and a potential solution?
Cheers
Scott
No solution, I got word from Sony that they are working on it, but my guess is that this will be fixed with Android O, and this could be months ahead :/
But maybe we will receive an update for Android 7, who knows...
Thanks for the reply. This kind of settles it then as Monday is last day of my cooling off period.. Gonna have to take it back as there is no way I can function in my job if I can t use handsfree properly or music
Such a shame.
had the same thing, after much research i found its probably the fact that the premium has bluetooth 5, with special codecs for music streaming. Non of which was available in 2012 when my car was made.
Ive ordered a £3 hadfree kit of ebay to see if that makes any difference.

Hi guys goodevening I've solve this issue ! you just to go o dev menu anche change bluetooth version avrcp from 1.6 to 1.4 after that it will worck again with the idrive with any app.
I tried changing avrcp to 1.4 yet it still won't stream music at all to my alpine head unit.
Didn't even come up as an option under Bluetooth. Says it is connected for calls and contacts only.
The alpine works fine with galaxy note 2, 4, galaxy s5 and s8, Huawei y550. So the fault is with the xz premium.
Same Problem with Alpine and Bose. Solution?
