So, I hate lock screen, i find them useless and annoying. so I use No Lock, have since I got Android over a year ago. i've used a few other appas andwidget that do the same thing, but all of them eventually have the same problems. they eat RAM, and occasionally crash from time totime and cause glitches here and there. but I still hate lock screens. so i'm wondering, is there anyway to permanently disable it, maybe with root access, without using an app in the background? like by deleting a certain file or something. or maybe a custom ROM somewhere can do it as a menu option? can Cyanogen do it maybe?
Finally found solution why the hell quad-lockscreen doesn't work on any rom i've flashed. It's the simplest thing ever. The problem was WP7 notifications which was causing reboots everytime i pressed lockscreen button.
Just a quick info. Maybe will be useful for someone

I don't use WP7 Notifications, but I think you are on the right track. I am in the same boat with the quad lockscreen reboot error...can't say it's a bug, because it's not the rom's fault IMO.
With some advice, I did a complete wipe and flashed the rom and did not restore ANY apps or data. Then flashed the quad lockscreen mod. Everything was peachy until I restored all my apps (no data). When I completed the restore, the quad reboot happened everytime I pressed the screen. But if I hit menu, I could unlock the phone without a reboot.
My conclusion is that any "notification" app borks the quad lockscreen. Meaning my notification app I use is NoLed. That is supposed to override the lockscreen and flash a notification onscreen and if I want to access it, I double tap the screen and unlock it. This works for the plain ICS Lockscreen. I think the notification apps conflict with the notifications for the quad screen. Meaning the messaging and phone shortcut on the quad screen. These two usually would show a notification as well on the lockscreen and I think conflicts with the app or whatever you have installed for notifications.
It is. I've got log dumps that confirm it has to do with a total number of outcomes not equaling the graphics that are rendered. That's why it crashes immediately and before the quad icons display.
Any way to pull the quad lockscreen and replace it with stock? Is there an installer script laying around somewhere to do that? Can't find it here.
I recently got the s3 and installed the GalaxyMod R12 on it, but every so often, when my screen times-out, I will hit the home or power button to turn the screen back on, and the phone is frozen. It has happened in several apps, built in messaging app, games, email, browser, and the common theme is that the phone is frozen and the app is in landscape mode (whether I was in portrait or landscape mode before the screen timing-out has no effect). It doesn't happen often, but it is very annoying because I have to remove the back and the battery.
Does anyone have any idea as to what could be causing this? Everything else works better than I could imagine, it's just this one thing .
Note: this also happened with the R11 version of the galaxy mod.
What kernel did you choose on the install? Try flashing a stock kernel or another custom kernel and see if the issue goes away.
I installed imoseyon's kernel (because I didn't quite want to overclock yet.
Either disable everything in the lock screen settings except AOSP Lockscreen or do this method taken straight from the Galaxy Mod OP...

Q: The phone keeps freezing when I go into landscape mode.
A: This has been covered many times in the thread, but to reiterate: If you are using the AOSP lockscreen you must disable "Ripple Effect" in Settings -> Lock Screen -> Lock Screen Options

I'd flash a ROM. I recommend CM10 to have Jelly Bean! There are a lot of ROMS in the dev section. Go choose one. Make sure you flash a recovery!

I'll second the recommendation to go to a JB based rom.
any convincing wins for the JB release? as i am pretty content with what i have on ICS. everything has been smooth so far, nothing buggy at all.
improvements todo: root, remove bloatware, get wifi tethering to work (currently broadcasts signal but devices cannot connect - says connection is unsuccessful)
here are my screenshots (if i should get something else):
1. Lock screen - I noticed the text notification that appears turned black in ics, which i like. it just blends in with my lock screen wallpaper. going for the simple dark black wallpaper for longer battery life? i guess haha

2. Screen 1 - man that weather widget that comes with Eye in the Sky is the best weather app! plain simple

3. Screen 2 - My home screen with a black google search bar that came with ics, yay! also using Widgetsoid with those widgets that i happen to use quite often.

4. Screen 3 - Well more Widgetsoid action going here. This is my utilities section. I just decided to turn my regular icons into the widgetsoid theme. The weather is actually USB tethering now here. I am enjoying the sound recorder and flashlight of easy access.

so yep, recommend widgetsoid and eye in the sky. AND I AM A NOOB ON XDA CAN'T POST LINKS OR PICS
Swype is a little slow in messaging for some reason. A weird icon appears every time at the top of notifications indicating 'Swype in use' so that may be making swype a bit more laggy. ANYONE EXPERIENCE THIS? this new icon appears in ics and not gingerbread. what about JB?
There is the Tweaked ICS rom also if you do like ICS. It's already debloated and optimized. The Swpye icon can be diasbled in the swype options.
Also you can disable most the bloatware now that you are on the stock ICS. Go to settings > apps > select "all" and disable what you want (if it can be).
As for JB, they are all pretty good (bug free). I'm currently using Slim Bean 3.1 with the inverted packages, but you really can't go wrong with any of them. Try them and find out. But you still have to flash CWM and make a backup with it first thing.
GL and enjoy.

Some may need to have the updates uninstalled first, it's in the same location.
it seems like i was able to do a lot of stuff already without rooting. thanks to the disable app feature in ICS, it is pretty much like titanium backup. ended up bypassing the built-in hotspot check and can tether wifi.
well, i ended up rooting. so what am i to use root features on?
guess i can only think of AdFree. also, i can permanently remove disabled apps. anything else to take advantage of root access?
If you go to a Jellybean based rom, most of them have button light notifications. "What is that?", you may ask...
The blaze doesn't have an LED to visually notify you if a call came or a message came...sure, the screen can activate when the call is coming, but if you're in the other room and don't hear it, or if the phone is on silent and you don't see it, you'll never know about it until you actually check your phone by turning on the screen...
Which many people do INCESSANTLY.
Button light notifications can enable the back/home/voice/settings LED to light up so you can be notified of it. It's nice to have.
Also, Google Now works by default with JellyBean, no funny business required. I had Google Now on rooted ICS and I liked it, but the only one that works on ICS for our phone is of course a much older version of Now, and it doesn't support certain features.
Google now is great, check it out on youtube or something.
This might get asked a lot but how is the battery life on JB??
For ICS, I'm currently charging about once every 1.5 days. I usually charge it at night, sometimes I can skip one night and charge it the night after. Sometimes I do use the phone a lot during the day and need to charge it within the next night, maybe even within half a day, but rarely. Sometimes I just charge it at work, so ~1.5 days. To get the 2 days worth, I'm usually Airplane mode-ing it when I'm definitely not going to be looking at my phone, such as at work except for breaks - I can probably go 2.5 days like this, but I still charge at 2.
How does JB compare?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T769 using xda app-developers app
Hello everyone,
I have my Nexus 5 since january. It`s been a really great experience.
I love to customize my N5. I am always changing icons, wallpapers and lockscreen looks.
For that, I keep looking for new apps in foruns like this, or Mycolorscreen, or Deviantart and etc.
One of this days, I found these lockscreen apps:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lockscreen.galaxy
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lockscreen.optimus
and
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lockscreen.sony
All of them are from the same developer. They are really beautiful, well designed and I was very happy with the look and experience that those apps gave me.
But soon I notice something strange when I first boot my phone in the morning: the N5 kept the home screen lit... It did not matter how many times I pushed the main button, trying to turn the scrren off and get the lockscreen working. I also noticed that the apps that usually open in the first boot were not getting started. Their notifications were not showing up. The screen kept ligthen up in my homescreen...
I was suspecting that these apps that were working properly before the installation of the three lockscreen apps above, were "fighting" with the new apps (the lockscreen apps). As the lcokscreen apps are from the same developer, I figured that they were the problem. So I unsitalled them. The apps that have always been working fine before the lockscreen apps have been installed are:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflow
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.rgruet.android.g3watchdog
and
http://www.amazon.com.br/MacroPinch-Bateria-Pro/dp/B0085YOD1A/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1399848399&sr=8-3&keywords=bateria
I have been using the stock lockscreen since then...
Today (May 11th), I found the following lockscreen app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qiigame.flocker.global
and decided to give it a try. And I loved it. It is a very beautiful lockscreen.
But after trying it for some time, learning how to use it... I reeboted my N5...
Unfortunally, the issue I (tried to) describe above happened again. After reeboting, the screen got lightened all the time. I push the main button and the scrren did not turn off. 3G watchdog, Battery and Lighfolw don`t show the notifications of starting up.
So, I am back in Nexus 5 sotck lockscreen!
I would love to use these lockscreen apps. But I don`t know what is going on. Can someone pelas help me???
I am sorry if this thread is confused. It is not easy to try to explain it in english. lol
I think this is just a case of buggy apps. I read through reviews for these apps from nexus 5 users, others are experiencing the same problems. The author of the last lock screen app you are using said to try going into the apps setting and choose "home button settings" and follow the three steps there, whatever those are, to solve your problem.
