[Q] Nexus S & (4g) ROMS - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. Loving this forum so far, way more than one should, but I got a quick question and I hope no one flames me or judges me. My question? Where is the DEV- participation for the Nexus S?
I KNOW its no easy, as I am sorta learning how to build and develop android shtuff both at work, at school and at home. But when I decided to move here (from Epic & OG Droid), I thought this place would be swarmed with Nexus S threads, this phone being Google's flagship phone and all. What pisses me off, are jerks like EVO-fans have more to play with than we do.
Like I said, I mean no disrespect, I freakin love this place, and everyone is super nice. And I appreciate everyones work, just wondering, why?
If you consider yourself a DEV, what is it that you go through to make some awesone stuff. What do you know? Any family? School? What can I expect? Help a wannabe DEV in the making
Cheers.

Hello, I'm grimm!

Midgetgrimm that is. Hello XDA, finally after hearing enough times of "check the xda" or "it's def in the XDA" I figured I'd swing in and see what's up. I'm somewhat new to the nitty gritty stuff, but I can hold my own. I run a DarkSlide Rom on my Rooted Droid X with custom boots and it's super stable. My girl is getting a new smartphone tomorrow, I think I am more excited as it will be a new phone for me to learn and Root. Well I hope to have a growing post count, so I will see all of you soon.
That's great, glad to have you. If you haven't already, be sure to get the XDA app from the market because.. well it's pretty awesome lol.
But yea man, what type of phone is she getting? You are aware of the phones from CES and upcoming MWC right?

Hey thanks. I just dl'ed the XDA app. I love tapatalk. She isn't sure and I don't wanna pressure lol. I think she'll go with and Android OS its just which one. Personally I wouldn't mind playing with the new windows phone. I used have an Omnia and I loved flashing and teching that phone. I really love Android, all the fun and its growing market and its openness to the people is just Wozniakish circa 1980's. Lol. Thanks again.

No pressure, as long as there's not another iPhone user walking around out there. I'm not biased or anything.
Nice to meet another new face.
well its tomorrow... inquiring minds want to know what your honey landed at the phone-store.

I constantly wish I could sit around and look at and talk to other XDA members here about their phones.

hello, grimm..
Hello Grimm
I had a friend come over last Friday and she asked me a question about her Facinate...I teased her for having it cluttered when she replied with "Do whatever you want to it...I don't care." That made me smile. I didn't have time to do much to it, but shes coming back over this week and I plan on doing a bit more to it.
I too am curious what Grimms girlfriend got though.

Lawl I'm starting to see why the mods made a whole new forum for the iPhone, instead of integrating it with xda. xD
It's like segregation you know. xD
Haha thanks everyone! So my girl got the Continuum and yes she will let me play with it but only minimal surgery is allowed. Prob a root maybe a rom. Im really interested in learning to change the bootani's. Well hello bak to all. Im sure we will all meet again somewhere on these forums

hmm..why do I get the feeling that nothing is happening for the past few weeks? I mean..there's no new content..is everyone busy?
Yeah same here, I've been lurking around for a while and there's nothing really happening. are the devs taking a break? or our development for out Galaxy Fit is inactive already?

Seriously..I get the feeling that no one's moving (besides pratysh). T.T I bet someone in the mini/(insert phone here) department is already porting ICS for their device.. T.T agghh the agony,,

Goodbye :(

Hi everyone!
As of today, I am no longer an owner of an Android phone. Yes, I have gone over to 'the dark side' (Apple) and gotten an iPhone. Many of you won't recognize my name, but I wanted to thank all of the Infuse devs for their hard work and generosity! I've been a part of (at least lurked) a few android dev forums on XDA, and I think the Infuse dev section is probably the nicest and most friendly one I've encountered. This isn't just for the devs, but for everyone else - THANK YOU for your friendliness, helpful attitudes, willingness to post and answer questions! This is somewhat of a model for how other forums should treat its members and I'm glad I got to be a part of it.
Thanks again everyone!

Don't blame you, I'm actually waiting for the iPhone 5 myself, except that it comes out in June 2012 and my upgrade is in January 2013 The infuse is awesome though
Hmm... I didn't know the iPhone 5 was coming out this summer... Good thing I didn't use my upgrade to get the 4S today, just a craigslist trade. Lucky for me my upgrade is actually IN JUNE!
Probably should have posted this in the general section. But anywho.. Hehe no problem man take care, stop by once in a while to say hey or pm me

LMAO my upgrade's (my mom's initially) isn't until August of next year :O. Oh well, by then I will hopefully be steady learning in college .
I was actually going to post in General, but I figured I wanted to do it in Dev section cause I never really went in any of the others and you guys in dev were really the ones I wanted to thank.
i still dont see the use of this post, but farewell. Peace sir
Not gonna bash in anyone's options or choices ....but I came from an iPhone 4s ....don't get me wrong they're amazing phones...really good phones...amazing display camera apps etc...
But it lacks customization even jailbroken...which is I came back to Android ....but all is well that ends well so have fun with it and best regards
Have fun dealing with itunes. Poor bastard.
Have fun with it; that includes and IS limited to: one keyboard, one browser, one rom, one theme/icons set, one..er..no widgets or app drawer, one clock speed, 3G speeds, and timely updates/itunes. (can't totallly bash lol)
Regardless of how AT&T brands the 4S, its still 3G (Don't let the name confuse you as it has some of my friends)
/rant...
Android is for ppl who like to change up their phone; when I get tired of looking at a certain set up, I change it and boom, its like a new phone. iOS is just a solid OS that's easy to use, that's what a lot of ppl want.

Just wanted to take the time to thank the community here for all the awesome work to help keep this device alive.. specifically design gears for helping me with cwm and dan Rosenberg for root and all the devs who keep the forums alive with great new stuff!
But its come time for me to pack the o3d away in a drawer cause I just ordered my new iPhone 4s....
Jk. I did order a brand new GSM Galaxy Nexus...
Mainly I want to let people know that i dont have the time to maintain my rom or theme threads... so if anyone wants to take over any of those projects.. no need to ask.. consider them yours!!!
Thanks again everyone.. best of luck for all of ya! Maybe I will see ya in some other threads. =)
see ya around trek and thanks for all your hard work

I want to know your opinion XDA

Hi everyone, my name is Powky and I'm new here on the XDA forums.
Well... I was thinking and want to know your opinion about the idea.
My idea is: create a ROM based on iOS7. Yes, I know, many people think about that (and is possible to be some ROM iOS based but I don't know it), but I have to tell something, I wish to do a ROM based on the look of iOS7 in ALL the aspects, ALL!
The animations, the icons, the style, etc.. Just all.
I am... New? Well, I'm new on the forums but I have all the basic stuff to know about Android and some medium ones.
And I need a little favor, if you guys can please tell me all the basic stuff about create a ROM, thinks to study first, and all about developing ROM...
Wish to you guys agree with this idea to make this imagination to reality.
Good night to everybody ?
(Sorry if you guys don't understand my English, I speak Spanish ?)

When I see (or hear) the letter "i" followed by any word whatsoever, my entire body contorts grotesquely and I start whispering gibberish to myself. So, thanks. Yeah, thanks a lot, Pal.

LOL. Thanks for the laugh.
OP. Don't even think about it. Apples lawyers will eat you. That would be patent/copyright infringement. I mean if they can patent rounded corners they can do anything.
Not funny...

Here are some IOS 7 launchers to start with https://play.google.com/store/search?q=ios 7 launcher&hl=nl. Look on Google for everything about how to build android roms. Plenty info available.
I can understand that people like iOS UI but what is the aim of building a complete 'iOS ROM'?
As suggested you should first try xposed modules, launchers, icon packs, custom themes...

He didn't seem rude to me. He asked a question and then suggested an alternative. And it was a legitimate question. The OP stated he wanted to create a ROM the same as IOS7 in ALL aspects (his emphasis). It really does beg the question why not just get an iPhone in the first place. I'm not trying to be an ass, I just don't get it.

I understand your point of view toward their reactions, but if it was the first time that someone gives that type of answers to a new-comming OP, it would be more acceptable. However, whenever someone comes with the idea of porting or creating a OEM Rom to the affordable and very open source Nexus 5, there you will find a anti-development crew suggesting to buy a much more expensive device as a solution. Why not tell them the reasons of why it's difficult to port a Rom or where to look for help, instead of telling to spend their school money?
I could be wrong, but I ts not so welcoming for them.

That's true. I guess if Apple made a thinner, lighter phone with a larger screen fewer people would be looking for a ported IOS rom.
Well, it's OK...
Another point I want to take is the fact of the iOS launchers... There are all buggy, I want to make the ROM completely like iOS7 and I don't want to buy a iPhone (as my "friend" mrv said) because one thing: why I should to buy an iPhone of 700$ to have the ui when I have another phone with the price of 400-500$ and better than the iPhone?
That's my point of view, and you're all right, there is MIUI but I was using the launcher and is not completely like I want it...
So... I only want opinions, I will try to do it, I don't care if there are apple-haters... I don't really like the iPhone because there are to small, to close and all that ****, the only thing I like (and not only me) is the ui, and I want to ported for my beautiful android.
