We had a small emergency last night at our home and I used the LED "Flashlight" fairly extensively. Now today I've had terrible battery problems, ie charges extremely slow, battery drains very fast. I'm wondering if the over usage of that LED flash has killed my battery?
Usually when a battery loses capacity, it charges and discharges faster.
It shouldn't be the case
Wipe the batterystats and rebuild the stats.
I've never had an issue. I have a working overhead lamp in my car, so I use a flashlight app very often. Haven't had any battery issues.
Are you using an official LG 1500mAh battery or one of the aftermarket batteries?
I haven't found an aftermarket battery as good as the LG 1500mAh.

I have my captivate running 2.3.3 mosaic III ROM the battery life is excellent with a little help from SETCPU but when it fully charges the phones says the battery is full but when i unplug it the battery percentage display says it is at 98% did a battery stats wipe. Just wondering do i need to calibrate my battery also to fix the tiny little problem. by the way i fail to mention running Purple-licious ginger style theme. This is the only issue I'm having
not every battery has the same capacity, 2 oem batteries either.
there is a 2% difference between your batteries.
if you calibrate to the lower battery, the other will show 100% when you put it in, though in comparrison it would actually be 102% ....
its not worth worrying about.
i have 4 batteries i play with... 2 oem and 2 extended... now that confuses the phone!
this is a normal behavior by samsung.
Fully discharging and recharging your battery over the course of a few days should calibrate it to your liking, however Samsung does have a little feature to prevent damage to the battery by overcharging. This is normal and should be of no worry to you as long as you are getting decent battery life.
You can also try charging to full, removing cable and shutting down phone, then charging while off until the battery says 100%. Repeat three times and wipe battery stats.
Hope this helps.
Is there a certain way or frequency to charge your device that prolongs battery life?
I usually take the phone off the wall charger in the morning and in my commute to work while streaming podcasts, spotify, or on phone calls my battery is usually around 70 when I get to work.
Would it be better to charge once the battery gets really low or keep it on the charger while at work? I need pretty much 2 decent charges a day to get through an entire day. Thanks.
Frequent and partial charging is best for Lithium ion batteries. Full discharge/charge cycles shorten the life of the battery. Also, not necessary, since Li ion batteries do not suffer memory effect like older technology batteries (like NiCad). A few cycles of discharging to 10% or so (not to shutoff) then full is good when the phone is new, to calibrate the battery meter correctly. Otherwise, the best practice is to charge as often as is convenient and practical.

Hello. My Moto G since I bought it has some major battery issues. It charges very slowly on the USB charger and a range of wall chargers. One night the phone turned itself off within 10 minutes of me putting it down from 35% battery to 0%. Then last night I was charging it and saw it go from 65% to fully charged in a split second. From the moment I unplug it after full charge, it will last 7 hours with moderate use. Mainly msging on whatsapp andbrowsing in chrome. So I do use it a lot in those hours whilst I'm out etc but it seems to drain whilst it's in my pocket with the screen off. The screen on time has never passed 3.5 hours with brightness on lowest.
I don't find that too bad but the random flash drainage and charging of the battery I have experienced is concerning. I mainly have 3G/H+ on and very few apps other than whatsapp and instagram plus chrome. I have tried a factory reset too. The battery usage stats is just my screen And the usual stuff.
I really think you should considering buying a new charger.

If not a new charger, return it... :S

Agreed, just return it, it's clearly faulty.

It seems pretty common this battery issues with Moto G, i was considering buying one but now i'm not so sure..
Hmm, today I carged with iPad charger (2A) and after unplug, half hour later (autosync is disabled, no games, no music, no chat etc, all possible apps disabled, not rooted) checking once email the battery level was 87%.
Strange.
I read somewhere that charging at 2A well degrade the battery with the benefit of charging it faster. Is this true?

There is current limiting built-in, with Li-ion so you won't damage or over-charge.
However, heat generated by long-term charging can degrade the battery....
See this:
Battery Charge Levels
Quite simply, it is not possible to overcharge a cell phone battery. However, leaving it plugged in for more that 24 hours can cause it to overheat, thereby shortening its overall lifespan. Most Li-ion batteries and chargers contain internal circuitry that stops the charging when it hits 100 percent, but always unplug it after long charging intervals, just to be safe.

Hi,
The battery in my moto g, the system oper. android drain a lot of % usage, 34% more than display in 6h usage.
In most cases this drain over 5 or 10% battery. What can be responsable for this consumption ?
my battery status:
5h usage - 32% screen (1h) sist oper.(35%) 4h

What's the consensus on when to charge and how long?
Is it safe to charge the S7 battery overnight, even if only around 50%? Or is it better to wait until your almost dead?
One of the I.T. guys at work was saying you should wait until you're below 20%, then always charge to 100%.
Just charge it whenever you want, this isn't the 90's or 2010. You'll probably replace your phone before you start to see it majorly affecting your battery.
You'll get a very slight improvement in overall battery life if you keep the charge between 25% and 75%. But we're talking very small. But yes, it's perfectly safe to charge your phone over night. The battery / phone / charger electronics won't overcharge the battery.
What you do want to avoid is draining the battery down to zero, or close to it. If at all possible, don't let the charge drop below 20 - 25% on a regular basis.

Thanks for the info. I thought it was beneficial to charge all the way to full?

Lithium Ion batteries are different than older technologies, such as NiCad and NiMH. These batteries suffered from the "memory effect" (although not as badly as most people thought), so it was good to charge those fully. If you always charged them to, say 80%, they would eventually only take an 80% charge. Li batteries don't suffer from a memory effect, so you don't need to worry about that.
The other thing is that Li batteries hate three things: excessive heat, being fully drained, and being overcharged. Tesla stops charging when the battery pack reaches 75% of full charge, and displays that as a full charge. Similarly, they consider a 25% charge as "empty." Then again, a Tesla battery pack costs something like 10,000 bucks, so it's important to as much as possible to maximize the life of the pack.
So my 4a has been having fast battery drain since few months now. I remember it having very good battery life initially. However now it drains battery very fast.
This is also surprising since I keep brightness low due to me being sensitive to it.. and also keep the phone charged upto 80% capacity only as I read that it prolongs battery life.
One thing I could note is that the phone drains slower in the 80 - 100 % range if the phone gets fully charged occasionally.
Hence I have been suspecting the 'rapid' charging which is enabled by default on stock charger to be one cause.
Is there some way to enable slower charging like what happens in case of 'Adaptive charging' post 80% capacity? I hope that will lead to lesser wearing down of battery.
Don't use a compatible cable/charger and it'll change slowly. I don't think any PC I've connected to can do rapid charging, for example, and the cheap USB chargers I have definitely can't do it, only the one that came with the phone can do it.

It's more likely an app that drain your battery in background than your battery dying already. Quick charge and adaptive charge are made to not harm the battery.
Are you rooted? If yes, install Franco kernel manager app from playstore.
In first page you'll see your battery life estimation (from system) and clicking on live monitor go-to the processes tab.
Just like top cmd on Linux you'll see which process is active and how much cpu it use
For me as an exemple i realized that when I'm using YouTube music. The AdAway app goes crazy and drain my battery. And its something that's not shown on settings/battety tab.
Fast charging stresses the battery more than slow charging. That said I almost always fast charge. I expect 1-2 years of battery life on my N10+'s though.
Charging past 80% or discharging below 30% stresses the battery; Li's like frequent midrange power cycling.
Don't start charging below 72F, 82F or higher is best. High temp cut off is about 102F.
Never attempt to charge a battery colder than 40F!!!
Erratic fast charging is a sign of battery failure.
A rapid decline in capacity is another sign of a battery failure.
Any rear cover bulging ie battery swelling is a failure, replace asap.
Once a battery is below 80% of it's original capacity it's degraded and has reached the end of its service life, replace it.
Degraded Li's are more likely to fail which can easily destroy the phone.
If the phone is used heavily or is 2-3 years old, probably time to replace the battery. Just do it.
On most phones the cost is low.

Frankly don't have that much usage of my phone. Will give sometime to observing with non rapid charging. Will give this a try if that still persists.

UPDATE:
Started slow-er charging since few days now.. and I really feel that the battery performance has considerably improved
Also update to Android 12 since few days as well so not sure if that has a role to play though I don't think so

If it seems to work better... I don't see any difference on my N10+'s though. Run times are the same slow/fast charging.
Keep a close eye on it as erratic fast charging is a sign of battery failure... I have seen that
