Hi, I tried to search before posting this question, but could not find a definitive answer.
I wanted to know if it is possible to flash a ROM from the LG Optimus 2x section?
(I have the t-mobile G2x obv)
There's a developer, believe its krylon, working on this right now.

The short answer is no. The long answer is nooooooo. (Don't take offense, I'm only kidding)
Check this thread here.
The other poster is somewhat correct though. Once someone ports the Rom to our device we will be able to use it. As it stands, the O2x has different partitions and will not work if u flash them to a G2x.
short answer, yes, you can.
long answer, it requires work to get data/cell connection

you phone is functional, you just cant make calls on it. wifi works however, didnt test wifi calling though.
Krylon360, does this mean you really are working on a port of the O2X ROM?
I must definitely appreciate the responses from you all!
And Krylon, I would love to see a port if you're working on it.. A case of beer would sitting at your front door! lol.
Quick question: (its a bit off topic, but help would be appreciated)
I have T-mobile and I have the 9.99 web2go data plan which, was working fine on my HD2 until now.. but since I got my G2x.. it wont work on it, and I really dont want to upgrade to the $30 plan. Are there any modifications I can do to my G2x to make this possible?
its more than likely but don't quote me on this like the devs ported the i9000 rom's to the vibrant. wish team edt was on this phone jellete is a porting guru

Yeah, I remember Krylon posting something on his twitter about a sense port I believe. I am scrolling through all his tweets but cant seem to find it for reference.
Will Unlocking the phone let us use the 9.99 web2go plan on it without upgrading to the $30 plan?

I do ask you mention Gaigetech as you hosting provider but no link back is necessary.
I ask you not to upload source code(that you wish not to share) or other sensitive files to this hosting as it will accessible to the public.

So how much money have u made rooting peoples phones, or installing roms? Some devs may frown upon this considering they do all this work for free and make nothing. If i gave my work away for free on the web i wouldnt want it hosted on the same site that someone charges people to install my work when u could be courteous and point them to the step by step tutorial on how to root, install recovery, roms etc..
Not tryin to be a jerk just statin my thoughts.

I root phones for people and charge them $20 bucks if they dont want to attempt it. Matter of fact, i know quite a few people who charge to root and mod phones, because most people arent into hacking their phones.
It really is none of your business what someone does and how much they make at THEIR business... I see where you are coming from with the whole hosting roms and themes thing, but whats the difference if he charges them and uses his site or if he charges them and downloads the theme or rom from xda?
The devs know what people are doing, and if they wanted to charge people for their work they could, and majority of us would pay.
Since when did we have a conscience police around here?
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
We don't charge for the root software or roms, we charge for the labor. Even then I have a close friend of mine who develops his own root methods for GAIGETECH to use and then we use a rom the customer chooses, and which we usually suggest CM7 if applicable.
The reason why I decided to host roms/themes/mods for the evo shift is because I own a evo shift. This was my way of saying thanks to the developers and helping the evo shift community. I don't intend on stealing their material as source code SHOULDN'T be stored on my server.
Hey more power to u godman, I appreciate the response. I don't mean to be a jerk or come across as condescednding.
That's cool that ur offerin space. Is ur server dedicated? How much space/ bandwidth do u haven.

The server is dedicated and more space than I know what to do with lol. The server is owned by www.pingpulse.net, whom I work for. I get all the server space I want and bandwidth I want.
thank you for finding the thread, if an admin/mod can, could delete the old one I'd greatly appreciate it
how can i flash an htc evo 4g to boost i really need it for my moms birthday cuz she wants this phone.....no legal BS thanks
EDIT: Ive searched all over but between all the legal bs, people saying its not possible, and all the trolling i get lost so i want this thread to b straight up. theres so many people that may want to do this because of the new phones coming out so just a heads up you can earn a lot of thanks and maybe even donations and stuff.
Hi,
I'm just wondering if anyone has tried Wifi Tether or similar apps with the new gingerbread stock Rom.
I didn't have much luck with Wifi Tether on froyo (had some issues), so I haven't used anything other than PdaNet, but I don't really like PdaNet because it's a little too much (like having to install application on a computer, etc).
If you know anything good, please let me know.
Thank you,
GT
Root your phone and install a custom gingerbread rom. You won't have to worry about wifi tether not working.
Off topic: this is like the third thread I've seen been created asking the same question. Is there something in the water?

FYI, I did perform search, which did not bring up anything specific to gingerbread and wifi tether.
Also, your suggestion is only "one of many" options that my thread is designed to ask. If you are going to be obnoxious, please don't bother replying in the first place.
Thanks,

but back on topic let me look for an app for you

No. That's a guy saying his default wifi tethering option is not working for his stock ROM. It is not the same thing.
My thread, if you read carefully, is meant to be where people can share different apps and experiences on gingerbread regarding various tethering options.
I am not a moron. I can read. I will not double-post or do noob stuff like that. I can imagine how many people here are annoyed by that occurrence, but let's not be so quick to jump to that conclusion?

Right, because just one person's word is absolute and everything, right? And, only market apps are our options, right? Not to mention, that comment posted by that person still doesn't change what that thread is about. In most forums, posting a different topic under a specific topic is considered hijacking. Furthermore, when you do a search, you can't possibly be expecting people to read every single post under every thread that shows up in search. Maybe that's how you do your search, which is both unrealistically impressive and unusual, but most of us do search in a normal way. We read the search results, which are often just the thread titles and a few posts.
If you are in this forum, you should know better than that. Before you make a post like this, you might wanna think a bit harder.

first quit it with the attitude. Nobody giving you attitude so drop it and you can google it but nobody found one yet maybe att made sure we can't with the ROM

Ok guys wuusssaaa. Being rude will get you nowhere.
Now as for tethering there may be away around it but it going to be short lived as ATT finds more ways to tell if you are tethering and blocks it. I am one that if you want to tether then grab the plan to do it. We have already seen what happens when data is abused. We get teired and next we will be throttled.
So let's all just get along and chill.
It helps to not confuse wanting to use the hotspot feature and wanting to tether with a USB cable. The hot spot feature requires using a custom apn if you are not going to pay for it. Then AT&T can see all that data passing thru "wap.cingular", instead of "phone" like it should. When tethering using a USB cable, you can use the stock "phone" apn, so data useage properly shows on the account. In the past, with Froyo, I did test out PDA Net, and it worked great with the stock apn. Since I have no need to tether, I haven't used it since and I haven't tested it with Gingerbread.

I will if you quit. I am not the one with attitude. People usually do not appreciate unhelpful responses to a thread they made, especially if they are based on presumptions against the poster's ability to use the forum. I asked nicely for you guys to be more careful before making the kind of posts you made. You did not listen and instead kept pushing. Not my fault.

I've read threads about those, but it seems that it only applies to people who "abuse" it as you stated. So, this isn't really a reason for all users to give up on other tethering options.
For example, in the past 2 years, I've only used tethering twice, both on occasions when I traveled to a place without wifi. It is not reasonable to pay that over-priced tethering plan for rare use of this feature.
I also doubt that AT&T will be able to catch all tethering use on all of their customers. Obvious cases with excess abuse make sense, but not rare and low use, like mine. I read somewhere that Verizon began policing tethering use on their customers on gingerbread, but even then some users reported they were able to get around it.

Thank you, fernandezhjr. That's an excellent point and helpful.
If that's what makes the difference, I wonder if it is possible to write an app that can create a wifi spot using the stock apn. It doesn't sound too difficult to do, but maybe I'm wrong.
I also wonder if tethering via bluetooth makes any difference too?
First of all I am by no means a developer, I want to start getting into it though so I just want to try to put a little something out there which is by no mean ground breaking there are tons of better options I am sure. I am building it off the 2.11 leak and I am currently taking out some of the fat and adding HTC custom kernel. I am searching around other roms peaking here and there just for ideas, again I am building off leak not coping anyone's work. I want to know if any one has any ideas to what .apk they want in and which ones they want removed. I am not much of a facebook person I would take all that crap out. This is going to be close to stock so it going to be for people who dont want to much custom and want to stay close to home. I also want to know if there is demand for any of these ROMs. I know people crave update after update but this will prob not be updated till the offical OTA comes out. I am just building this for myself and want to know if anyone want to try it also. I added back in WiFi teather and I also removed the TetheringGuard.apk which I have noticed some developers have left in place to keep these kinda apps from working. Again I can read inside the forum and see there are plenty of ROMs is anyone looking for a ROM like I am building. I will have it done in a few days I dont want to rush it and be crappy. I am also working on including a theme with it so if I do that may take a little longer. Theme will be based on Green which will blend in with the name of the ROM. If I see some yes answers and there is enough of them I will add my ROM no longer than a week from now under the name Gr33n3nvy with the 3's being in honor of DT whos work and lack of developing knowledge prior to building got me into this. I dont have Chingy on speed dial so please be easy with the comments LOL. More will come as soon as I read all the web sites I have people sending me.
Good luck dude, cant wait to see it Chingy has been very helpful to those looking to get started.

I would try to hit him up but even DT was saying he gets really busy. Maybe on my next one I just want to see what I can do on my own before I start doing custom stuff to it. I will def need some help by then. I am bringing my lap top to work next 6 days to just tinker around with some of the stuff. I am hoping a week will be enough time to get what I want done to it. So far just getting some ideas to what people want who dont want tooo much custom.

Depends on how much help I get, I learn very quickly I got straight A's in college for my medical field and didn't know anything about it. I taught myself everything I know about computers which includes a wide range of things. I am not bragging by no means since so many people know way more than me but I have only got into this but instead of just riding the train I want to learn to give back as well. So far its nice that even some of the senior people here are taking an interest to my post

If I'm wrong I apologize but from the little i have done in making stock roms is if you take out the Tetheringguard apk, the verizon hotspot will not work. I just mention this because I have had alot of requests to keep it in because alot use the official verizon hotspot. It doesnt affect wifi tethering apk either way from what I can tell. Just wanted to throw this FYI out there to you.

No need for apologies I was looking it up cause the name itself made me think what is this. I looked it up on Google and just posted what I read. I know something prevents you from downloading tether apps cause on my Rom listed below I can't download any of them I have to place on SD card and install them. I am learning here so any information is welcome
