Jokes, on that thread apart....
I have the "original galaxy SII/global gt-i9100", and had noticed a similar issue..
The micro-SD card(I think, Dane-Electric) which I had inserted in the slot, was inserted correctly, (until it clicked), but still it was slightly a bit outside (about 1mm or less), because of which the battery was able to fit properly, but the contacts were not
really pressing down hard on the phone body contacts... Any electrical engineer
hence would know that this may cause sparking and or overloading of the battery... I was playing around with the phone by installing various roms, so I was lucky to see that the battery got heated up very fast in like 10-15 mins, when this was happening and a closer investigation showed the problem was really the micro-SD card. I removed the SD card and it was normal again...
I now have another brand (kingston 8GB) and this one does not have a problem and the battery and the card fits properly...
My note would be that after you insert the microSD, do make sure that the battery is properly making contact, or if it is not put some packing under the bottom of the battery like a foam strip (http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/sticky-back-eva-foam-sheet/) under the battery so that it fits snugly and the electrical contacts are making proper contact...
Hope this helps....
I guess this would apply to any phone... & its battery..
Ghat
PS:
For this particular case, looking at the pictures, the micro-sd card does not seem to be the issue, but more than likely the battery was not making proper electrical contact...
The galaxy i9100 has some serious "Stupid" flaws. I dont know if they are hardware related or software but i also had it and boy was i glad to switch to the skyrocket. I had a 32gb microsd and everytime i would unplug the phone from my computer it would literally scan the sdcard for 30 minutes, which would make it almost unuseable. Also i could see the phone logs by calls only, it was either sms or all logs. I had other really annoying isses with that phone, issues i dont have in the i727r

My backpack (new and fully functional) show the described pins, too.
Bye,
PHPat
My back pack has the end pins slightly shorter but I would say the middle ones are all the same length.
Hi, my back pack has the end pins slightly shorter but I would say the middle ones are all the same length.
But would just ask a small question, does any one felt the device to be slow when you run a presentation? it gets too slow! and suggestion?
I have read on this and other forums that if you let the backpack battery go flat it experiences problem being recognized. Not sure if that applies in your case henny

Problems with backpack not recognising CF cards turned out to be XScale software...
Problem Confirmative
Dear all,
I also experience CF card not recognizable from time to time. I can ensure you all that it has nothing to do with XScale or the battery being drained. From my observations, it's random.
BTW, upon my newbie experience, I think that the CF driver is hidden somewhere in the Startup directory cos' everytime it happens, the only cure to restore it is through the soft reset, however, I don't seem to have successfully spotted out where it's hidden. ANy comments on that would be appreciated
Cheers.

it's not the rom, have run loads over the past year since it started -but its getting alot worse. my phone will for no reason will report sim card missing-have tried other sims ,have cleaned & reformed contact pins-any thouights or is this the begining of the end?
maybe the slot, or the buses leading to the slot are damaged?
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. I have sent it to repair and of course the replay was, that they need to change the motherboard (I guess it is the same as saying we don't know what's wrong). I have ready that the problem is in contacts conecting to the sim holder. but since Unis are not so expensive anymore, I just bought another one. Maybe if I have more time, I will try to investigate. BTW, I also tried several ROM updates as well as changing SIM cards, but no positive results.

No, chanigng the motherboard is short for "Hardware Fault", meaning that most likely, the SIM card bus is broken. Since this is printed circuitry, it cannot be repaired, and the whole motherboard must be replace to solve the problem.
update-cleaned and reformed contacts & put a little sheet of hard plastic behind sim contacts arms this seems to allow the increased pressure to remain and my phone seems to be working -48hrs now
with reference to hardware failure ie motherboard or sim bus surely it would be permanent(unless it was a dry joint?)
I've just started having this problem as well -- when my Uni boots it says "No GSM". Sometimes I can get in and make a call or check my messages, but it seems to go away over time.
I think that's the end of the line for me and Unis. I love the device, but it's just not worth throwing time at anymore, I don't think.
hello all,
after my tornado fel into the water i have a major problem.
sometimes i cant call, and when i try to call i only hear 2 soft "beebs"
sometimes when i am able to call it automaticly breaks the connection and again i hear the same 2 "beebs".
also sometimes people cant call me, but the screen says i have an connection.
i already put a new rom on the phone but it doesn't help so i ques it is a hardware problem.
I have another tornado for spare parst, does anyone know what this is?
maybe the antenna?
thanks in advance
It may be an antenna, but not for sure. You can try to disassemble Tornado and clean antenna connectors with any pure alcohol. If it doesn't help, it's PBA problem.
First you should have disassembled it completely and let it dry in all parts before using it again. Depending on how long it was in the water this may take some time. Taking fabric cloth and pressurized air can get it dry in a few minutes, but only if taken apart. Take care to remove the metal lids on the PBA as well and look inside for moisture.
There are no parts inside that take permanent damage from water if the device is without battery, but if it was on - end even used wet inside - then your prospects are variable. I would guess nevertheless that it should work again after all has dried.
thanks guys for the reply's,
i forgot to say that the phone felt into the water 1,5 moth before i started this topic. and 1 disambled the phone serveral times to make sure it was dry.
so inside it is dry now, but i tryed to use the phone with battery even when it was wet inside, so maybe that its where it went wrong.
what is the PBA? and where can i find the antenna connectors?
i already removed that metal box, and the chips underneath looks verry good. no corosion or what ever.
If you took everything apart already, then you should have seen the antenna connectors. The Antenna is located in the top cover at the back (above the battery cover). It connects via the two spring supported contacts on the upper part of the PBA (Printed Board Assembly). Both parts are gold plated, so it should not be a problem there.
Regarding the metal lids, take care to remove all of these (3). They are located underneath the keyboard (with the OMAP processor, RAM and the M-Systems DiscOnChip) on the same side of the PBA for the Radio and underneath the LCD.
As some chips are BGA soldered (soldered from underneath; BGA = Ball Grid Array), take care to blow with air also underneath (between PBA and CHIP). There is a very tiny gap between these and water hidden there may not dry for along time (if it has reached the area anyway).
However, the 2 soft beeps usually indicate that there is no free channel for you to be served (as far I remember) - you would get this problem with any other handset as well (same SIM assumed). It is a highly temporary problem (just retry) and you will not get evidence if you swap the SIM to another handset and retry there - network capacity has changed in the meantime and you would get a connection with the tornado as well.
If you experience call drops or other different behavior (compared to earlier) it may as well be attributed to a HW problem with the radio part in your device.
at this moment i use my htc hurricane with the same SIM card and i dont have any problems anymore.
so it is really a problem inside the phone. i havent used the tornado for 2 months now because it gets really anoying after a while.
i will take it apart for an another time, an blow some air underneath the chips as you say.
another symptom what i had was that sometimes the GPS connection was disconnected, and that the phone was searching for a signal for a long time.
but when i puted the sim card in my hurricane i dind't had any problems with the signal.
thanks again.
My unrooted Samsung Droid Charge was acting really squirly; rebooting, constantly scanning the media card, getting really hot, being a general PIA. I thought there was a problem with an application and found that if I was able to catch things at the right time, remove the µSD card so the applications couldn't access the network then I could usually get things working and put the µSD back and the Charge would work for a few days until it happened again.
So, after a couple of weeks and the problem possibly getting worse I take my Charge to a Verizon store (yeah, I know, what the hell was I thinking!!?) The first thing the petite girl tells me is the phone is out of warranty by twelve days. Then she tells me it has water damage (the red tattle tale is slightly activated). Now I was pretty sure about the latter (five minutes sitting in a half foot of river water was my clue), but the former was a bit off-putting. Nevertheless, I have a have a SquareTrade warranty so figure worst case is I send it to them along with $50 for a refurb replacement. Still, I want to see what the Verizon folks have to say.
The petite girl takes the phone to the service area and swaps out the battery. After ten minutes she comes back and tells my the problem with my phone is that the battery has been damaged by water and it needs to be replaced. I'm thinking of calling shenanigans on her but she has nice eyes. The petite girl says she's sorry but they don't have any batteries in stock but she can order one. I say thanks but no thanks and leave (nice eyes only go so far with me...)
When I get home I realize that the µSD card is named with some gibberish characters and I wonder if the thing is corrupted so it isn't being read properly. I swap the 32GB µSD card out for a 4GB (all I have lying around) and for the past couple of weeks the phone has only rebooted a couple of times, it isn't constantly scanning the media card, and the battery isn't getting crazy hot. It seems to be working okay.
Anybody have any thoughts on this situation?
Anyone else having issues with the mSd card slot?
Plug a card into mine and it makes a sound and works, knock the device or touch the card and it makes the unplugged sound and disappears..
Looking into the port the pins look like they are at a bit of an angle and the plastic slot moved a bit, a few of the screws weren't exactly tight so I gave them a quick tweak, the slot itself doesnt move anymore but the problem persists..
I've raised it with MS support and they are doing an advanced replacement but didnt know if anyone else had seen, had or heard of this before, I'd put it down to a build quality issue tbh..
Just hope they dont say its not covered as some of the screws have a bit of silver showing where I tweaked them, didnt take it to bits or anything depends how anal they are I guess...
Nope no issues.
I have seen a few people show images of obvious user damage they claim as magically appearing that Microsoft did returns on. You should be fine.
Had that same issue on mine; if I held the card in with my fingernail it would work fine, but as soon as I let go it would come out just enough that it would disconnect. Microsoft exchanged it no problem. My only issue was the support rep told me to send back all accessories, yet they only shipped me a lone Surface, with no charger! When I asked another support rep about it, they said that the accessories ship separately, which means I received my Surface overnight, but had to wait a week for the charger.
Yes, I had this issue on my previous surface. I got an exchange on it, as it randomly stopped booting a few weeks ago, and I haven't noticed it on my current one.
As long as I'm not the only one then, I did try a few different cards so knew it wasnt that, its not like I use the card much atm but its nice to have the extra space seeing as I dont have a bloody drop box app yet
Guy I live chated too at Surface support said just send the Surface back without any of the accessories, then rang me a few hours later as there was a problem on the system and then went through it on the phone, if only Samsung support were as good with this Slate 7 I have :/
Anyways replacement should be in the building shortly, it left the local UPS depot just before 6am, not sure how much use I'll get out of it tho as the charger is sat at home and I didnt even think about it until I saw the post above...
New device 50% power, that'll do, installing updates now, d'oh, battery will probably be dead by the time its done, it sbeen going for an hour and is installing 4 of 18...
Replacement sd card is a much better fit, doesn't wiggle in the slot at all and doesn't disconnect when you touch it..
However I might have a different problem now... :\
bump... anyway to fix this without an exchange? going back to school tomorrow and the closest MSoft store is 2 hours away (Tucson --> Scottsdale). The MSD is def loose and it constantly is disconnecting. pain in the ass when trying to listen to music.
my current solution is I stuck a tiny folded sheet of paper in between the msd and the tablet to try and hold it in place. so far so good, but its only been a few min...

I did mine on an advanced exchange so wasn't an issue for me, meant putting a holding charge on my card tho, not sure if that's an option..
