Hi,
I am planning on signing up with a contract for AT&T for their new phone, the Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket, but I have been hearing that AT&T have been throttling those who have the unlimited plan. I am planning on signing up for the 250mb then calling in to get the unlimited plan (grandfathered) from someone on ebay.
Anyone got any advice or clue to settle this issue if not i will be getting the iphone 4s instead.
btw thanks.

So I walked into AT&T to help my girlfriend go from her non-smartphone plan to the prepaid $65 a month data plan so that she could use an unlocked Nexus 4 using the plan. Before you say she should switch to T-mobile that isn't an option (I wish it was).
The lady there said that she didn't think the Nexus could work using that plan because something about it having 4g capabilities. To my knowledge the Nexus 4 is NOT a 4g device (not LTE anyways), and I left very confused about something I thought would be extremely easy.
Could anyone explain to me how you would use the Nexus 4 on AT&T's prepaid plan, or AT&T in general. Were they just trying to bait me into getting her a 2 year contract?
Thanks for any help!
furthermore...
I am talking to a rep. online who says the $65 a month data plan only allows for 3g speeds regardless of phone, so what are my AT&T options off contract that allow for 4g speeds?
I'm currently I'm Verizon and debating on jumping ship to a prepaid service. Can anyone make any suggestions on which one and anything other info?
Thanks!
EDIT: Also anyone had any luck with the ThunderBolt on and of these?

I've heard that Page Plus uses the VZW network so you'd at least have good coverage. Other than that, I don't know.
There are instructions here on how to do it:

Page plus will work but you won't be able to get 4G. I believe there are currently no prepaid phone companies that can use Verizons 4g.

You could just get your Thunderbolt flashed to Verizon prepaid unlimited everything for $50 a month.
You can't get 4g, only 3g but it's unlimited and only $50 a month, what else can a person ask for
Hey XDA guys;
I am a long time AT&T customer and I have an Unlimited Plan. I've never had a phone with LTE enabled because I hated the options available at AT&T so I've always used unlocked phones like the Nexus 4 on HSPA.
Now that the Google Edition of the S4 is being launched, I've decided to purchase it if I can get a LTE on my grandfathered unlimited plan. I've heard that many people have moved to LTE on their old unlimited plans, but a lot of those stories involve using 2 year upgrades and purchasing AT&T phones.
My concern is that I won't get the LTE connection though because it's not an AT&T phone. I have no desire to give up unlimited data for LTE either. Question: Does anyone know if I can get LTE on the Google Edition S4 by just calling/visiting AT&T and asking them to enable it?
Thanks and sorry for the heavy context, but I just want to get the most accurate response.
Bump. Sorry would really like to know.

I'm on VZW, but it's my understanding that you only lose your grandfathered unlimited when you buy a phone at subsidized price. I could go into VZW right now and drop $800 on a new phone, and keep my unlimited, but pay the $1500 subsidized price and I lose it. So I'd imagine that as long as your phone is compatible with AT&T's LTE you should be good to go, but calling them wouldn't hurt!
Yea it makes sense that VZW and AT&T have similar policies. I worry about calling AT&T or using their forums in fear of getting deceptive answers.
So my contract is up at AT&T, I have been thinking about switching to T-Mobile but I am scared that T-Mobile will not work inside my building at work. I don't want to cancel my AT&T until I know because I have the grandfathered unlimited data.
What I decided to do was to buy a Nexus 5, go to T-Mobile get a plan and try it out for a few weeks to see how the service is. My question is if I decide I do not want to move to T-Mobile and stay with AT&T is it as easy as cancelling the plan because I own the phone, and switching the sim card from T-Mobile to an AT&T?

Yes. Grab a prepaid sim and pay for one month service from T-Mobile. If you don't like it go back to att.

If you don't need the unlimited data (and it sounds like you don't if you're willing to switch to T-Mobile), another option to consider is the at&t pre-paid route. The GoPhone service is reasonably priced (2gb data for $60), and you'll be staying on the same at&t network.

T-Mobile offers an unlimited data plan for 70 a month.

why waste money on a new device, unless you really want to upgrade to a Nexus 5?
unlock your current S3, test the t-mobile service
I have to say that tmobile's building penetration is indeed poor... enough at my desk near a window, but not enough inside the window-less room in the middle of the building
but it's cheaper than the other plans available by the other carriers. but if you are on a grandfathered plan, evaluate whether it's worth staying

Bought a Nexus 5 because either way I'm upgrading my phone with out a contract.
I haven't totally made up my mind but I'm strongly thinking of dumping my Verizon family plan in March. Why? Because I'm tired of paying the $225 to $250 per month. The data plan just isn't that important to me.
So if you decided to move your S3 to a carrier that has unlimited text and phone with zero or little data, where would you go? My S3 is rooted, unlocked bootloader, running 4.4.2. Everything in play except anything associated with Sprint (poor coverage area). One other phone is an S4 (not rooted) and three feature phones. I'm willing to buy my son a phone to replace the S4.
Thanks!
Page Plus is still a good option. I go through Kitty Wireless and use the auto pay. Unlimited T & T with 1GB data (4G) is $40. Around $36 with a Club Pin
Just Google Kitty Wireless.

While page plus is alright straight talk allows you 3GB of high speed data for only $45 a month. I'm using my VZW S3 on it and getting 4G speeds while using verizon towers. I'd seriously consider it, also unsure of how pageplus works but with ST you can bring nearly any phone from any carrier or even a GSM unlocked one meaning almost any phone available

I have a rooted S3 and I switched to Verizon Prepaid. $45 for unlimited Talk & text + 500 MB of data. Data is doubled to 1 GB if you sign up for Auto Pay. Don't have to do anything to prep the phone. Just end your post paid plan switch to pre paid with same phone number and simcard.

I still think straight talk is a better option than verizon pre paid. 3GB of data for the same price they offer, no more dealing with big red

Im looking at purchasing a Galaxy S III SCH-I535 and would like to use it on straight talk. Is this the model you are using? It is an already rooted phone. I want to be on the Verizon towers not AT&T.

Yes. I'm using the same phone and I'm also using verizon towers as well and getting 4G LTE speeds

From what I have read in the past, I didn't think you could get 4G LTE with the SCH-I535 with Straight Talk because of frequency differences. Has there been a change in that?

I'm getting 4G LTE speeds so I'm not even sure what your referring to. It works on mine, straight talk sent me a sim specifically because this is a CDMA phone. The AT&T and T-Mobile sim cards don't work on this phone
