[Q] Neccessary to upgrade radio? - HTC Desire S

Hi there!
Have recently installed oxygen with tiamat kernel. (seems to be a nice ROM)
My hboot says:
Saga PVT Ship S-OFF RL
HBOOT-6.98.100.2
Radio-3822.10.08.04_M
eMMC boot
I was thinking if flashing a new radio may help regarding stability and batterydrain problems? Or should I only flash radio if there is something more seriously wrong with the phone?
In the case its recommended to upgrade the radio, wich one should I use?

its only suggested to flash new radio if you have a real need to. As it flashes a critical part of the phone! I personally have upgraded to latest radio with no problems. If you do go ahead make sure you check the md5 sums match before flashing!

+1 only flash when you need to.
It may be useful though.
I upgraded to the new radio and now I get 3G in my area! Previously on the stock Radio that came with the phone, i only had 2G..

*quote everyone who answer on the "do i need a new radio?" question*
if u don't need it - don't do it!
usually it's not necessary to update your radio.

Thanks guys for the info, I will wait to update that radio!

thnx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes almost everyone would say it's not necessary to flash radio unless there's something wrong with the current one, because there's a risk of bricking your phone!
but still, i did it nevertheless because i could was new to the android community so i tried everything i could get my hands on =D
proceed with caution!!

problem solved.
but how can i return to s-on?!!!
its still s-off...

I would also like to know whether flashing new radio would help me. I recently switched to the new operator and I know have problems during a handover between GSM and UMTS during a call - connection often breaks. Would flashing a new radio? I`m currently using 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M

I would like to know the benefits of this new radio =)
I wonder if this new radio will magically enable 850/1900Mhz WCDMA...
I am sure this is pure wishful thinking...
Installed it.
Seem to be getting faster mobile data speeds (Vodafone UK), not sure if this is related though.

what happens if you just flash radio.img through adb do you loose root/s-off?
As long as you have RADIO S-Off you do not lose anything...if you have Radio S-On you are screwd and stuck with the radio you flashed it to...
ENG S-Off by itself does not help...

[Q] new hboot required for new radio?

Hi, I want to use the new radio, which will hopefully fix my Bluetooth problems with VoidU S.
Do I need the new hboot in order to change the radio?
Where can I also find the latest radio version you are all using? I can't seem to find it-
, can someone post a link? (I'm bas in the uk)
Can anyone confirm no Bluetooth issues with the new radio on VoidU S?
Many thanks!
Bump! Help please

C'mon c'mon, look at the links in my signature for radio version thread.
Plus, I can't believe that you didn't look in the Dev INDEX thread There is a link to the new radio in the RADIO sub-section of that.
I'm afraid that I'm not 100% on whether or not you need the new hboot for it, but, I know that I'm on the new HBOOT and have the new Radio version...if that helps...
BT seems to function ok, see my #POST in VoidU thread although was rather worse for wear when i wrote it so its not the clearest.

'Rather worst for wear' - what do you mean?
Sorry, I did check that thread, but there seem to be loads of leaked GoApk radios from there, and I didn't know Which was the best. according to the radio thread (of the one your using) it works with the old Hboot. I'm going to try it now... Hopefully Bluetooth works!

TO be honest I hardly ever use it.
After much grief last night I managed to send one file from a device to another.....but that was about all that I managed to get working.
Wouldn't know what else to try.

You having problems with the data signal after making ROOT and S-OFF???

Researching and reading some homeowner concerns of htc sensation, I have observed that a large number of users after making root and s-off a large majority are having problems with the responsiveness of the data signal on the phone, even do not know that usually this problem if the custom ROM or made S-OFF, so if we know the problem is there, if you have the same problem post your complaints here.
people forget to match up radio versions and corresponding rils. i haven't had any issues with the properly matches rils/radios.

I tried going back and forth to different arhd versions and i still ended up with unstable signal mainly on my carrier, wifi and data is fairly good. any tips and tricks u could share with me to fix this problem.. thanks in advance

So your still stuck with the same problem as me? Or did you just go back to out of the box stock Rom? I was thinking of just go with the stock, since I've been having problems mainly on signal issues after I flashed arhd and I can't stand having to turn airplane mode on and off everytime to gain signal.

Root and a off don't relate to signal, but what you flash after that does. Easiest solution is to use the same radio and ril combo as was included stock, whichever ROM you're using. Newer radios can give some improvements, but also can cause issues

Q - Virtuos Saga v1.0

because of some funny forum regulations I have to ask here...
Does
[ROM][May 23]Virtuous Saga v.1.0.0 [3.04.401.1][Sense 3.6 Android 4.0.4]
support 2WCR(two way call recording) as his older brother Virtuos Affinity which I am using since december??
If not then when expected to implement that?
Hope some developers of this ROM will read and answer
No. This is a kernel feature and the source for the 3.0 kernel isn't available so it can't be added to the ROM.

hey,
I don`t want to create new topic just for one question, so I`ll ask here.
I`ve installed this ROM without flashing radio. everything works fine. Do I need to flash radio anyway? Later I`d like to migrate to Primo-S ROM, cause sense 4 I like more than sense 3.6.
hboot 2.00.0002
current radio 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.804_M
Thanks

If you don't have a problem with your current radio, then it's not necessary to flash the new one. It's really completely up to you.
Edit: I just saw your hboot; if you're S-on, you won't be able to flash a new radio anyway.

Awesome, well, then you can decide whether you want to flash the radio, or not I, personally, have seen a huge improvement with the latest radio, but that could be the total opposite for you. So try the radio out for a day or two, and if you have any problems, you can always just flash your old radio again.

[Q] Viper XL 4.2.0 ROM Not Receiving Texts

Running the HTC One XL Evita. I flashed the new Sense 5 ROM from Viper, ViperXL_4.2.0. I love this ROM but the only issue I have found with my phone is that I can send texts that are received but I cannot get any back. Had trouble with random reboots so I flashed the Beastmode 3.5 kernel twice and rebooted about 5 times with no luck. Still the same condition. I then flashed ElementalX XL-8.3.2 kernel with no luck. I'm currently on the Elemental kernel. Can I do anything else to fix this situation? I may just have to go back to my rock ROM ViperXL-3.2.7.

I would suggest upgrading your firmware to 2.15 to resolve your random reboots. Here is the link and instruction on the first post. Thanks to turge for his excellent work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2423735
Also make sure after installing the new firmware you have baseband 1.31a.32.45.16_2_10 may fix your text messages also. Goodluck hope this helps.

i cant receive in coming texts.....
i have the hboot 2.15 and radio 1.30a.32.45.18
my signal is around -90db...
i get calls and i can text..
but texts i cant..
i am using this phone in India.
its carrier unlocked so it can work on all gsm providers..
please let me know if upgrading firmware helped you?
the only thing keeping me away from flashing a radio is that what if the other one makes things more worse.
and since its been written on an altogether different partition i cant restore it!
If you flash a radio and it doesn't work out you can just flash the old radio again. There's a link to the Evita radio thread within the Everything Evita thread in my signature.

No it won't be caused by the kernel. The kernel is what governs how the hardware and the software interact with each other. Like a middleman between the two. My advice would be to contact your carrier and ask them to reset you on their network, that might work.

Why are you hijacking this thread? Your question has nothing to do with what this thread is about. You should ask in the Viper thread seeing as that's what ROM you're on.
