My phone:
Rom: Insertcoin 3.4.4
Kernel: Bricked v.1.5
Radio: Stock
Problem:
This morning a friend of mine called. We talked about 30 sec and then the call just got silent and we could not hear each other anymore. So he called again 2 or 3 times. And every time whenever I pick up the call just dropped. I've tried calling him too 2-3 times and I just hear one beep (quite like the signal when you are calling him) and right after the signal the call drops. I've tried calling another friend too see if the problem is in my phone and the same. So I've restarted my Sensation and everything was good again.
During the time the problem was going on I was constantly looking at my signal strength and I was trying not to deathgrip my phone. It was 3/5 which is normal in my house but a few times it dropped to zero and I was not deathgriping it for sure.
Bump! Anyone? I think this even happened before and the beep is not the same as ringing tone.
Yesterday I was at a friend of mine. And my mobile internet was not switching on for a long time after i switched on I didn't have any connection. I've restarted my phone and again the same and I received messages about missed calls. I've tried to dial someone but nothing again just beep and nothing more. I've had 2-3 bars connectivity after 15 minutes my phone was working again by itself. Very strange help please.
The only time I recall having issues with the other person not hearing me has been when I've had wifi calling turned on - it seems a little more problematic. If you're not using wifi calling, my only other thought is to try changing your rom/kernel/radio - since I assume your phone used to work correctly before putting a custom ROM.
Before flashing anything custom did you perform a full wipe. Try flashing your RUU. Sounds like it is as, suggested
previously, a WiFi calling problem I experienced when I forgot to do a full wipe prior to flashing s New ROM. I ended up flashing my RUU and started over.
Good luck.

Hi,
I have wiped and wiped my phone, reflashed rom gapps and kernel 5 or 6 times. and still calling will not work
When trying to make a call on cell network there is no sound. The calls go out and connect but i cannot hear the person i am calling nor can they hear me.
When i turn on wifi and wifi calling the call has sound and works perfectly. I can repeat this over and over again. swithing between cell and wifi the same thing happens.
Can someone tell me what is going on? I have tried different cyanogen nightlies and this keeps happening. I have had this phone since the release and this has started about a month ago.
Any help would really be great. I cannot upgrade my phone yet and do not feel like buying a new one at this time.

Hey guys.....
I have an issue with a phone that maybe you all can help with.
This is my second phone doing the same thing the last one was doing.
(yes I've searched)
So occasionally while connected to wifi I dont receive any calls, texts, or emails until I pick up and use my phone for something.
Just now when I picked up my phone to check the weather at 6:30pm and I got 4 text messages, 1 VM and 2 emails all ranging back to around the last time I used my phone. (5:45ish)
This is really irritating as I have missed some important calls lately and it really pisses off my wife...lol...she assumes I'm gaming and ignoring her.
I remember reading somewhere that this phone has issues with going to sleep and Smart Sync.
Specs:
ATT
HTC One XL
ViperXL 2.4.1 (it does this on the stock rom as well)
ViperXL kernel
Thanks for any and all help!!!
I seem to have had similar issues except it was doing it off WiFi. They way I started noticing it was I set my weather to update every hour and I would find it would be 4 hours ago last udate. I also noticed texts coming out of order and calls going to vmail without ringing. I played around flashing different radios ,roms and even changed sim card multiple times. I came to the obvious conclusion that it was actually att issue. I live in a rural area where I get H+ but no LTE. I suspect that the tower cell fills up then puts active calls and data priority. I had atrix before my hox and it did same thing. Its really annoying. So I find myself rebooting phone and it solves issue at least for couple hours.

Im having the same issues. Started a thread about a month ago. Im on my second phone as well. Had AT&T reset something on their end, did an RUU, factory reset, wiped caches and data...nothing. I really believe it's an AT&T issue.

I don't think it's an issue with Att.
I just got a the email for this, it is an hour and a half late. I am connected to Wi-Fi and my phone is set to "smart sync".
If this was an ATT issue then why didn't I get my email?
The phone receiving emails while on Wi-Fi has nothing to do with ATT.

I also have the same problem. On Christmas I sent out a mass text to people and never got any responses. Then about 12hrs after I sent a message to someone else and got 100+ texts and 3 vms. It was ridiculous. I'm on ATT and running Nocturnal Dirty ROM. But it also did it on other ROMs. I would love to know what causes this problem and how to fix it...
Started a couple days ago, using straight talk AT&T sim on my nexus 5, Data and text messages work fine, but whenever I try and make a phone call the signal drops completely and calls won't connect. People been telling me when they try to call it goes straight to voicemail. I'm running stock rom. Any suggestions? Straight talk and Google both with no help.
Have you tried a different sim card from like a friends phone to make sure its not the phone itself? You can also try to call ATT to see if its on their end.

Swapped sims with my wife. Mine worked on her phone hers didn't on mine. Think it might be a hardware issue on my phone and I got it on Craigslist so I think I'm screwed
Sounds like it definitely is a hardware issue now or something with the Sim tray. Sorry to break it to ya. Hopefully you can work something out with the guy on Craigslist.

Thanks. I have had the phone for about 4 months with no issues. I K of its not the sim tray because I still get data and texts and I can receive calls sometimes if I have dull reception somewhere. It just started all of a sudden, pretty frustrating
I just the same issue today as you. It was a ROM issue. I was on PA. I switched to aokp for now.

I had this issue on the stock, unrooted ROM after about 4 months as well. I think the cache partition was corrupted. You can try wiping this in recovery and see if the problem fixes itself.
I didn't think of just wiping the cache, so instead I did a factory reset by unlocking the bootloader and everything cleared up.
Now I wipe the cache partition roughly once a month and the phone runs like a champ. Also I use sdmaid to clear the device from junk that accumulates over time.

Thanks for the help, but I already did a factory reset with no success. Data works fine on LTE but if ibtryvswitching to 3g or 2g signal drops as well. If I have full signal it will connect but anything in less it doesn't connect the calls.
Flash factory images then.

This happened to me on my non rooted N5 with 4.4.4. Disabling Wifi and/or LTE sometimes allowed a single SMS to get through, but then the problem resumed.
I fixed it by booting into recovery and wiping the cache partition. For some reason that took a long time (about 5 minutes) but eventually it finished and when I rebooted it was all good.
I'd try the wiping the cache and reflashing the radio.
I had a similar issue first week of owning the phone any time I sent a text I lost service until I rebooted.
From what I've read some N5's don't like the 4.4.4 radios. Mine likes 4.4.4 but couldn't pick up a signal if it had a 50ft antenna with 4.4.3 radio.

I just had this almost exact same scenario. I started having problems with signal dropping using CM12 nightlies (late April 2015) then eventually I switched over to a NET10 because T mobile was not cutting it to begin with. After the problem persisted on an ATT Sim card with NET10, I started flashing different ROMs. Signal seemed to be more stable and everything was fine for a while. After a few days I was no longer able to make or receive calls.
Eventually I did a complete factory image (still didn't work)
Flashed a 4.4 radio image (didn't work immediately, but the next morning it seems to be working as of now)
I probably could have skipped the hours of trouble shooting if I would have (found this thread first) and just tried flashing different radio images. Or maybe it was the series of other steps combined...not really sure.
Good luck and hopefully this helps the next person going through this mess. Oh and don't event waste your time calling NET10/Straighttalk customer service.
*EDIT* Above did not solve my problem, I actually had to fix the physical radio connections which came loose.
same problem
Hey guys having the exact same issue. Dropped my phone hard and then all of a sudden I cannot make or receive ant calls with my carrier dialer. I can send and receive texts, use LTE data , Wi-Fi. When I place a call, it is silent for about 10 seconds then drops the call. When people call it is silent for 15 seconds, then voicemail.
Called google, said it is out of warranty and LG would have to repair it for $150 just to see the phone.
Have done a cache wipe and factory reset. Is this most likely a hardware issue that I need to open the back for ? Little bit of a tech noob but can work my way around things. Any help is super appreciated as I love my N5 32G and don't have the money.
Same issue that I had, just remove the back and reattach/secure the radio wiring. It's on the left side and rubs parallel to the battery. It was a petty quick and easy fix.

So I took the back off and looked at the cables and they were both connected. I took them off anyways and reconnected them. Didn't see anything surprising to my eyes at least. The only thing I did find out was that LTE is the only setting that I can't use data and texts on. 3G and 2G say no cellular network detected. Do I maybe need to replace the antenna cables ??

Hmmm. I don't think the cables would be bad. I would just make absolute sure that they are staying attached after you re-assemble your phone. I even put a small piece of tape over the end that I noticed was loose. If that doesn't work then I think we had different issues with the same symptoms.
I'm having this same issue. Three weeks now, unable to make or receive calls. SMS and data work fine. Wifi works. LTE works. When I switch to 3G or 2G there is no connection and T-Mobile doesn't appear in the list of networks. The SIM card works fine in another phone so it must be an issue with the device.
Tried everything on the software and settings side, flashed different ROMs, flashed different radios including stock. No change whatsoever. I completely disassembled and reassembled the phone. Nothing was loose or looked broken, all contacts seem to be making contact.
I do vaguely recall dropping the phone recently, so I guess that must have been it. The only other possible cause was that Google Play Services was auto-updated the day before I noticed the problem. Of course that is unlikely to be the cause but just mentioning it in case anyone else had this issue starting around Oct 23, 2015.
As much as I hate to do it, I guess I'll have to get a new phone. Just no other solution I can see unfortunately.
For anyone finding this posting through Google, currently there is no VoLTE (Voice over LTE) support in the Nexus 5 on T-Mobile. If that is available when you're reading this, then you might look into enabling VoLTE and seeing if you can make voice calls using that. Based on my reading it seems like VoLTE is a software update (perhaps requiring the provider to support the device as well), but the consensus seems to be that VoLTE on Nexus 5 on T-Mobile is unlikely to happen. But they support it on the Nexus 6, so maybe there is some way it can be done on the Nexus 5. Also Wifi Calling on T-Mobile is not available for the Nexus 5. The consensus there is that the stock Google/T-Mobile ROMs are unlikely to ever add Wifi Calling support for the Nexus 5, but perhaps CM 13 or Android Marshmallow do or will have Wifi Calling support built in, so there may be some possibility of getting Wifi Calling using those.
Did you try checking the cell antenna? That was my issue, I just tapped it back in place and my N5 has been fine ever since.

If you mean the ones with the long wires, then yes, I checked those. Actually I checked pretty much everything inside the phone. According to this excellent disassembly video: youtube dot com/watch?v=OPuCmfhzgbg , there are lots of antennas and antenna contacts. So many that he doesn't get to all of them until 20 minutes into the video. But still, I checked all of those and they looked ok. There must be some damage somewhere, just too small for me to spot. He also identifies "external test ports" for some of the antennas. I don't know how those are used or if they would be useful to debug this issue, but for anyone else experiencing this, you might try looking into those.

I'm having the same problem on my Nexus 6 and don't know what PA is and how to change it
Since yesterday morning I receive very few SMSs or calls when wifi is connected.
I installed 4.4.4 a few days before that so I doubt it's that (although I supposed it's possible)
I've reflashed the radio, reflashed 4.4.4 in its entirety, flashed CM11 - all with the same result - when wifi's connected I hardly ever receive any calls or SMSs (no problems dialing out or sending)
Unless anyone else has similar problems I don't think it's worth going back to 4.4.3.
So now I'm left wondering if it's the hardware or the SIM, or...?

Yes, I can dial out and send SMSs.
When someone calls you what signal do they get? And their messages stay "pending"?

They either get a ringing tone a few times at their end end then an unavailable tone, or just an unavailable tone / message.
The messages eventually arrive, maybe 6-10 hours later, or when I switch wifi off.

Turn off LTE and I bet it will work. It's been a known issue for awhile with LTE and WIFI on you will miss calls/sms.
Google it and you will see many threads about it.

Weird - I had already read up on that (it seemed to be a pre 4.4.3 problem) and could swear I had already tried switching it without success but now I've switched again it seems to have done the trick - I'm just waiting to get some test SMSs sent. :good:
I wonder why it worked okay until yesterday morning and then just suddenly stopped working - it would suck if I'd paid for 4G!
I suppose it's of some comfort that I'm not the only one on 4.4.4 with this problem...
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/eOToYgJXdrw/discussion[426-450-false]
I've tried it again - back to not receiving calls or SMSs even with 4G turned off unless I'm disconnected from wifi.
A few minutes on the phone to Google - and they're sending me a new phone! :victory:
This is a long standing issue with the N5. A solution that worked for me is to disable keeping WIFI on during sleep. Not sure if that will work for everybody though.

How did that conversation go? When I bought my phone, it took something like 2 hours for it to download the required sprint activation package (I think it was something like 50mb)...And the radio has been giving me grief ever since day 1 with signal constantly dropping any/everywhere...I just thought it was more related to Sprints crummy service in my area though.
I'm on a aosp marshmallow build, and since cm 12.1 upgrade whichever rom, I tried I couldn't maintain a signal level to make calls or get calls while the phone is idle while it's on lte, or 3g. Lte works fine for data. When I'm on 2g all the calling features working fine. I already tried installing different modems and firmwares including but not limited to 44s, cm nightlies, oxygen os. I went back all stock and rerooted and reupgraded to lollipop back then. No solution again. Any idea would help. I searched couple forums, saw other people with similar problems. But not a proper solution. Thanks

Got the same problem, except that 3G works fine for me.
I tried all that stuff too, still waiting for a solution. I hope it's not a hardware issue as it's working fine for everyone else.
So the problem is that I couldn't make or receive calls on LTE. Data works fine. The thing is the call connects, after 2 rings, I get a message which reads "Mobile Network not available." The other person thinks that I made a missed call and want them to call back. The same happens while receiving calls, after 2 rings, it disconnects it. I've noticed that the signal drop automatically after 2 rings. 100% to 0% after 2 rings, and then back to 100% after the call disconnects. This is kinda weird. I called up my service provider and they told me that it's the handset that's faulty. I think that I need to get to OnePlus Customer Care before my warranty is void.
~noob (you gotta start from somewhere)
Yep. Same here. But if you keep it on 2G, then you can make/receive calls. But that means, practically giving up your data
