i downloaded super manager to check it out and it lists carrier iq and lots of information about it.
it has an uninstall option and when i click it, it goes to the android uninstall screen with an "uninstall application" OK/CANCEL (both are enabled)
afraid of trying it though as im not very comfortable with the phone yet to have to restore everything if it doesn't work...
anybody want to give it a try?
Good find. But i read somewhere its deeper then an app level
thats why i included the screen shots seems the app is attatched to everything.... but still might uninstall?

i think this is where att collects the info (found it in defaultProfile.pro) - extracted from android system which was apparently framework-res? ... https://ciqcol01.ciq.labs.att.com:10010/collector/c
now to edit /etc/hosts
does anybody know how to force CIQ to "phone home"?

Anyone know how to take the at&t widgets off the widget list? Im on a Captivate rooted, (oclf) and have root explorer (if that matters).

You can use root explorer to delete the files associated with them or titanium backup will also remove system apks. Just be sure you know what the names are, some can be quite cryptic.
The files are in system/app directory but some apps also have other files associated with them.
Titanium backup has a feature where you can freeze them which essentially disables them and you can defrost thus reenabling should you find you made an error or change your mind.

I've tried TB, but for some reason, it slowed my phone down. I can try it again. When they are froze, will that eliminate them from the widget list?

Cool thanx man. And does anyone else have an issue freezing apps on captivate and TB keeps saying its freezing the app. I let my phone sit for like 10 mins trying to freeze one app!

No problems with freezing at all. Its a quick process and defrosting is just as quick

So as soon as you hit "freeze" it does its thing, then you can choose the next app? Maybe I should haver restarted my phone or something after untangling TB.

Hey there,
If you happen to be running Launcher Pro, you can hit Menu - Preferences - General Settings - Hidden Apps. Here you can check what you don't want to see in your apps list.
As far as Titanium Backup goes, I've never tried the Freeze option - I've just deleted what I didn't want (as long as I knew what it was!)
Hope this helps!
-Tara
Yeah that helped I been hiding that apps with LP, but I figured everything out using TB. I just went ahead and bought it. Thanx everyone for your input!

You can also get autostarts and disable the widgets from starting.
Just curious, does the new Market seem a lot faster for you guys too?
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/12/14/download-android-market-3-4-4/
Just download and install. No root needed either. Seems much better. Also looks better on my Tab than the older version.
Nice. Can't wait to check it out later.

How do I install this? Should I manually push the apk with root explorer for it to work? I tried regular install but it doesn't install.
Update: I manually pushed it with root explorer and it worked. Thx for the tip.

I would push/replace, clear dalvik and reboot.
I just installed like any other apk... No problem
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
I simply downloaded it... clicked on the completed download... then had the option to install... went straight to the market and checked the version, no issues at all.
Renamed and pushed no problem. Def faster.
I hope this fixes the "insufficient space" bug on our phones.
Noticeably faster for me.

when it comes to the market, it only updates when it's open. it's the only app that does it that way. all other apps will show in the notifications. if I'm wrong, please let me know, but I don't think that's the case.

How do you know that this is the ONLY app?
But anyway, my point is if Google can do it on Android platform it does not matter with one app or many.
PS: off-topic, Google Map subscribes to bunch of intents, so it would be launched when you turn-on screen, WiFi etc... I would like start application when I press app icon... There are no other way to opt-out other then disable Map in pm.
Google maps can be stopped by using the app autostarts. All those apps that start by themselves when you do something, ie reboot phone connect to wifi ect... no longer plague me. True, I just delete most of them, but there are some I actually use (like maps and Gmail).
Unfortunately I can no longer find the exact app I use in the market, though I'm sure there are others that do the same thing. If anyone would like the apk for the one I use just let me know and I can post it next time I'm on my laptop.

Autostarts is a paid app in the market.
If you found the developer posted it for free on XDA, please link to that... otherwise this breaks XDA rules.

My bad go back and see my previous posting, I didn't see it on the market when I looked last week. I just checked again and your right, it is still there. I'm not at my laptop now. Either need to have a mod delete my post or I'll do it tonight when I'm on the computer again.

Then, call Samsung and tell them to pay Chinese government hackers to steal codes from this independent developers. And then release their own kanged version

Virus? Not enough information to tell you. Sounds fishy to me. Check which app is consuming the data.
Yeah I looked at the app thing and I tried a virus scan and there is none. The notification hasn't showed up for a few hours now. And a search of the phone yesterday brought up the file and I deleted it hoping the message wouldn't show up again but it was there this morning. Google was no help. Now I am using a system monitor to see if it is an app causing this phenomenon.

When did it start? Where did you get the device from? Is it a knock-off China phone?
It started 1.5 daze ago. Yeah I imagine the phone is from China like everything else is, but it was bought through koodo. Maybe they did this? Maybe a conspiracy in the works? Or it's this rom I got on here, CM7 I just thought it was an odd thing to notify me about over and over. We'll see what happens. Thank you from China:beer:

Ureka! Easy downloader pro was the culprit. I deleted the 0 byte completed file. Now hopefully I am watch.bin free.

Oh, if you flashed your own ROM, then I wouldn't worry about factory-installed spyware.
Keep an eye on it. If it doesn't come back, you're probably ok. Pirated apps (if present) could also be a source of problems, though.
I have Japanese ads in my notification bar. The ads have been in my notification bar for the last week. I have uninstalled the few apps that I have recently downloaded and I haven't figured out which one is the problem. I tried using air blocker, air push detecter and numerous ad detecting apps. The ads don't seem to go away until I tap on them and download an app. Even after I download the app, more ads come back. I have screenshots attached. Can someone help me get rid of these ads?

You may also have been infected with some sort of malware/adware. I suggest downloading Norton Mobile Security or Lookout Security and running a scan. If one antivirus program doesn't pick up, try the other.
Also, uninstall all the apps that they've told you to install. Those are probably just making it worse.
Good luck :good:

Xeon is right you may be infected with malware. I would boot into recovery and do a full wipe 2-3 times to make sure you get rid of all your user data. Then download an antivirus app and make sure you watch what you download after that
I guess its about time I wipe/reset again. Thanks everyone for the help.

aSpotCat might help you pinpoint the offending apps.
And never download software just to make a nag screen go away (phone, PC, etc.). The problem will only get worse.
