I have Japanese ads in my notification bar. The ads have been in my notification bar for the last week. I have uninstalled the few apps that I have recently downloaded and I haven't figured out which one is the problem. I tried using air blocker, air push detecter and numerous ad detecting apps. The ads don't seem to go away until I tap on them and download an app. Even after I download the app, more ads come back. I have screenshots attached. Can someone help me get rid of these ads?

You may also have been infected with some sort of malware/adware. I suggest downloading Norton Mobile Security or Lookout Security and running a scan. If one antivirus program doesn't pick up, try the other.
Also, uninstall all the apps that they've told you to install. Those are probably just making it worse.
Good luck :good:

Xeon is right you may be infected with malware. I would boot into recovery and do a full wipe 2-3 times to make sure you get rid of all your user data. Then download an antivirus app and make sure you watch what you download after that
I guess its about time I wipe/reset again. Thanks everyone for the help.

aSpotCat might help you pinpoint the offending apps.
And never download software just to make a nag screen go away (phone, PC, etc.). The problem will only get worse.

So far I've netted Plants vs. Zombies, Gaia GPS, Pac-man, Mahjong pro, and now watchdog!
Haha. Good call. I had a feeling a thread would show for this.
When I opened amazon and saw watchdog, I swear, the 'get app' button practically pushed itself.
It's days like this that make checking the daily free app of the day on amazon pay off.

It will have you add a payment option to your account, but the free apps are never charged to the card.
Once you've added the payment option, it won't ever ask for it again, unless you purchase a paid app.
It's Amazon's way of covering their rearends.

Yes. This is what discourages me from using Amazon App Store. So I turn on 1 click, do the purchase, and turn it back off right away. Amazon does not refund. So very high chance of accidental purchases that would not be refunded.
When I first installed the Amazon app store, I download an always free app. I didn't like it, so I uninstalled it. Now it is always in my apps list with the option to install it. Does anyone know how I can remove it? I tried searching for an answer but can't find one.

Amazon works differently, while market installs apps when you click Ok, amazon downloads the app and then asks for install... You can just cancel it.
Or if you are scared then install and remove immediately after that using easy uninstaller app.

If I download the app and hit cancel, would I need to navigate to it with a file explorer like Astro and click to install it? Or, will canceling cause the app not to be saved? How is Easy Uninstaller different from the stock uninstaller, other than how you can uninstall more than one app at a time?

Fine, I'm not hurt. Really, I'm not.
You don't have to trust anyone here. But you sure seem to when receiving other advice in the numerous threads you've posted asking for our help. Now you're not so sure... Lol
Just go read about it on the market. Check how many times watchdog lite has been downloaded, and read the reviews people have posted on its market page.
And then make your own informed decision.

You might want to try Air Push Detector. It is free on the market. It will let you know which program you run which puts an ad in your notifications.

I tried it and it did find one App that was using the push ads (Kona's Crate), so I removed it. But the recommendation is back now, so I guess it wasn't that.
Any other suggestions?
Next step would be to install Lookout Mobile Security. I use it, and the free version can scan your phone for all dodgy apps, malware, spyware etc. and will scan new downloads to stop it happening again. It also has tracking and wiping features should you loose your phone. Unlike certain antivirus apps though, it does not hog resources too much or drain your battery.
I have gone for the premium version, which adds real-time virus protection when using the stock web browser. The free version should serve your needs for now though. Put it on and run a scan. See what turns up.
The only downside to this app (and it's only a small niggle) is that after a new download from the market, the phone may lag a bit for a few seconds whilst Lookout scans it. That's it.

Is there anyway to block ads in apps only and not in browsers? Many links I click on in emails and certain webpages use ad servers (I assume) and ad blocking causes these pages to say cannot be displayed. I do not want ads in apps themselves but still want to use links in the browsers that currently are not working when ad blocking is turned on.
I mailed the devs, they will release it any soon again.

It is now and its weird that they decide to enforce it here it is, they say ad blockers violates section 4.4 and here it is
Also they still work as long as the host sources are still being updated and online
though one of the sources has gone offline for some reason

Not using titanium backup now, TWRP and Google have had my entire and app backups respectively the last couple months. The Google restore account has been working very well on 4.2.2. AdAware and my current fave aren't listed in "my apps" anymore.
Doubting that google will restore AdFree ever again.

Seems to me that it's time to shift to a less constrained repository of apps. Perhaps F-Droid and has it's own Android client. Not sure what else is out there
Of course "less constrained" means less protection from malicious behaviour so common sense has to be more strictly adhered to.
