[ROM] {WIP} "STOCK" T-mobile G2 Gingerbread Port to Shift - EVO Shift 4G Android Development

For those that don't know this is a stock port of the T-MO G2 2.3.4 Gingerbread rom. There are a few issues with the rom and those will be listed further down. I took on this port for a few reasons. First off, I like the stability and light feeling that aosp roms give and also it's a stock rom. No additives! No 20-way reboots or power controls in the drop down menu. This is pure stock aosp and nothing else.
Being that this a port and I don't consider my self a developer of any kind there are a few issues that need to be fixed before this is complete. As-is the rom can and has been used as a daily and it has been by myself for about a week. I will be releasing a few different versions of this rom if there is interest.
I know it's not the newest version of android but it's something to play with while we wait for a fully working ICS port
If anyone want's to join in and help get this port finished with me, any and all help would be greatly appreciated in advance.
Here are the issues:
V 1.0
1: Camera- force closes when launching
2: Youtube- videos try to load but they dont
3: 160 text Character limit
4: 9016 text from voicemail
5: 4G ( gsm port so it may never work)
Thats all I can think of right now. As far as I know everything else works. Just do a backup and give it a test spin. Report back with issues and any other questions that you may have.
Pretty much all t-mo bloat has been removed but being that it is a stock rom, I decided to leave the "With Google" apps in. I will make another version with it all trimmed down only to the most necessary apps.
I am not responsible for anything that you do to your device. If you mess it up, don't try to blame me or the rom. That's all for now. Enjoy

Thanks for taking the time to port this over. It runs smooth, only issues I see are the 1's you highlighted.

Thanks brother. I havent received any hate mail or threats yet so it must be good so far. I would like the get the camera and youtube going before im even close to happy with it. Thanks again for checking it out.

Here is the fix for mms. It converts any text over 160 chars to an mms. I did not test it but should work fine. Here's the Link
Also can someone post a logcat of the camera fc?

Sure thing bro. Give me a few. about to throw in that apk and see if it works
Preesh

Jefftet, tried the apk and it wouldn't allow me to type any further than 160 chars. The original one would allow me to type more but then gave errors and wouldn't send. I appreciate you taking the time to provide your input.
Here is the camera logcat:

Jefftet can surely come up with a fix he's a good guy and does a lot of good work for our speedy and by the way i'm loving the rom. i'll be sure to be using this rom for a good while and flash all fixes and versions

[ROM-DEV] SpeedyMyTouch V0.8 MyTouch 4G GB Port 6/8/11

This a port of the Glacier (MyTouch 4G) GB leak. I was a big fan of Zenulator's ZenExp Espresso port for the Hero, and decided it to try to port this one over. Seems pretty stable, though I haven't been able to test out everything. So give it a test drive, and let me know of your findings. I've removed most of the T-Mobile bloatware, but there still may be some tucked away somewhere so let me know that as well.
What works:
Calls
Data
Camera
SMS (as of 6/8/11, fixed error for sms over 160 char)
Wifi
Hotspot
GPS
Widgets)
MMS (as of 5/22/11)
What Doesn't Work:
4G
VVM
Headphone jack (Media playback)
Needs Testing:
Bluetooth
Genius button (in Car Dock App)
DOWNLOAD
Backup all user data.
download to SD Card.
wipe, wipe, wipe
flash.
Thanks to:
faux123 for the Glacier leak
TMartin03 for the Speedy leak/base
Mbobino for the MMS fix
Zenulator, Nfinitefx45 for inspiration

I'll bite..downloading now. I'll edit with results. Almost dinner, so might take an hour.
Edit : ok, see here are my quick findings. No MMS. I didn't try to receive, but send definitely failed. The Genius app work flawless. GPS got a quick and accurate lock. Wifi worked fine. I couldn't test bluetooth as I don't have anything to pair it with. I noticed the neither the function nor shift lights work on the keyboard (actually it's possible they did light up and my case covered them), but there are icons in the task bar representing them. Wifi hotspot worked fine.
So all in all very nice smooth ROM. I really like the look of Sense, it's a nice fresh look. Get the MMS sorted out and I think you have a winner.
I've nandroided back to my original set up/rom because I'm headed out so I wont be able to test further.. Hope I offered some help.
will flashing to a different kernel (x99) work with this ROM?
edit: didn't try flashing the kernel, but I was using the ROM and it was smooth very nice I like the UI. I ran into a problem with a text message over 160char. It just keeps giving an error for not being able to send and you can't stop it so it flashes every 10secs. Not sure why but it happened on the speedyhd port also. and there are MMS settings under the text message settings, just something that might help with mms. Great job on the port though.
This looks awsome

Thanks all for the testing. Mbobino PMed me the MMS fix, so I'll have that up sometime today.
I downloaded this and used it lastnight and noticed that the battery drains really quick. and for some reason thing's would keep trying to sync even after I would set the option for manual syncing or no sync at all. like the news account in the "sync & account" setting kept rechecking itself after I unchecked it, everytime.
I really like it though. I like all the custimizations in the espresso version of sense.

Ive got extended quick setting fully working just need to iron out this low memory/low on space warnings in the quick settings boxes. Stay tuned ill have it out soon.If you know what i need to correct please let me know
Edit.. still getting odd popup with 0-9.back to it again.
were you getting the low mem warnings before you added the quick settings, Never got any warnings myself,,,
nope just when i flash quick settings everything works just inside the auto rotation/wi-fi/mobile network boxes theres (low on space) and (phone storage space is getting low) which is not true. im going to start all over i guess.also i cant rid the0-9 popup box, which i think is related to the text popup apk i put in the rom. This was my first ever port attempt but ill get it working.

Agreed. Good work! It's nice to see some of the mods from previous versions working on the new base. The text being wrong in the Quick Settings issue is going to be hex edit in SystemUI.apk, I believe. outerdepth had a similar issue when porting the Express. He might be able to help.
Ive been bangin away on this rom all day and i mean all day non stop. From flashing at 97% till now its been 6 1/2 hours non stop. Different mods,, stock kernel, different other kernels constant reboots, about 35 mms about 20 sms a couple hours web surfing, just playin with it non stop and im still at 47% battery. battery life is off the chart This rom just keeps getting better and better and its not even a day old yet. Im going to hang with the new freedom universal kernel for a day and then check the lionfish 1.8 universal for a day and see which ones the best...

Cm10.1 nightlies Mms.apk modded for higher quality!!!

Enjoy.
Send and receive limits raised.
uaproof and strings changed to verizon nexus i515 * please note anyone doing this mod to the apk JUST changing the mms limit may not help you receive large mms. so far in my testing it appears that changing the string back to the verizon mms servers allows for much better quality IF you cannot receive over 50/60kb. I am on the 5/4 build and just sent a 1mb pic to myself and received 650kb. Also there WILL be and HAS to be a small smount of compression...accept it as its mms. BUT this is a fantastic fix for those wanting better quality.
*also i cannot confirm backwards compatibility. Meaning what works on todays nightly might not work on tomo. if you see no changed in the changelog for a nightly update to the mms then by all means try pushing this in and testing. it SHOULD work but I do not know.
*No backup is necessary as this is JUST an apk. This is meant for someone that knows how to navigate file systems and IF somehow you mess up it isnt my fault. I am supplying what I use and outlining my personal method. I'm not making a flashable zip, please learn to use root explorer (or a file manager of choice)
Pics look great!!!
Find the apk you need.
Rename to Mms.apk
Move to system/app
Set permissions rw-r-r
Reboot profit
If anyone has a different rom and requests the edits made for you such as paranoid, aokp, slim, etc...an aosp variant send me your framework-res.apk and your mms.apk and i will attempt to smash some love into your apk. you will be testing for me and i will update the op as is once confirmed working well.
Thanks for any help and any and all suggestions are welcome. I am not into themes and will only be making these simple edits to fix an issue that should already have been corrected.

Yes but it needs to be Mms.apk
I just confirmed it sent just like a stock Verizon and received like a stock Verizon. Great quality. Best test is to send to yourself and then compare size and quality
OEM Mms.apk is the correct language for cm10.1
I'm sure it will work with all caps but please delete the factory Mms.apk.

That's good to know. It has been working extremely well with the last edits I did to it.
I had to reflash ROM today, I couldn't send a picture for a anything. It was my first try at sending one, too. It just kept saying "Sending" but it never went thru.
I'm gonna give it another go here shortly.

I def isn't on my end. I haven't flashed anything else. This apk was recompiled on the 425 build. If they made more edits in later builds or you reflash anything you would still need to move the apk again and it may or may not work.
Mine is still flawless. Couldn't be happier. I have been sending over WiFi and 4g w 0 issues
Since it is a nightly I won't be able to consistently keep updating but I will periodically update this apk for builds I update to.
****ty I know Lol.
Or for anyone running an m build or a stable build I would drop a new thread for those MMS fixes if you message me.
I'd be happy to help. But for me I could only assume you may be having a network issue or the above mentioned could be to blame. As the apk I posted I would not post if I had or have any issues with.
Thank you. That may be it because I flash the nightlys periodically and that may have something to do with it. I'm on 4/28 right now so I'm gonna try this again and report back.

If it doesn't work, although it should on the 428 build please let me know. I have it downloaded. I may pull the framework res and the MMS and do an update to it.
Just before you move the file confirm it sends MMS before you move my apk in.
That way there is no confusion in the outcome. Also make sure your permissions are correct.
Thank you, gonna grab the update. BTW, it does work. Not sure why I was having an issue the other day but I flashed 05/01 and then pushed this to system/app and tested. This is a great little piece of work here, thank you!

I don't see why not although on most tw ROMs you are limited to 300k receive limit and around 1 mb send limit.
The mod that gets done adjust a few different lines in the XML to allow greater things.
I bounce back and forth between beans and cm10.1 so I may knock out a beans MMS although the quality is decent on beans it def doesn't send/recieve as large as the modded cm10.1 I posted. Gimme a few and I see what can be done
OK I tried many different ways to mod the tw MMS and it still stays capped a around 300k receive size. Dunno. May have more time next week to play but I tried 3 dif ways. I have one more fairly extreme change I can try but not sure.
Either way the aosp cm10.1 MMS is sending large MMS
Would be interesting if you could pull that off. That's one thing that bugs me with TW ROMs, receiving 29kb MMS files as a slideshow.

Ahh now that's prob what's keeping this mod from working. When I send a single MMS it comes thru and largest I received so far was 300ishkb. I forgot all about how tw formats it. I think tomo I'm going to dig thru the code some and see if there is a way to change that

Sorry I renamed it to keep track of some things. Its current now
300kb would be much more than the norm I'm used to, is that not good enough or are there other issues keeping the mod from working? And is there a way to bypass that annoying slideshow?

Everyone's going to really like this one. I'd recommend firing up kernel tuner and getting both processors running and she'll be as smooth as a baby's butt. You'll notice when you first start, the Touchwiz Launcher will FC a couple of times but then never again. There is also a weather app preinstalled on the home screen you'll need to delete & relaunch. (That's what's messing with Touchwiz I would assume.) The only other thing, and this is MY blasted fault, is the 4.2.2 JB Keyboard I put in. Would have been great but FC's all over the place when applied. Just use root cleaner to get rid of it. May have to reboot after that too. ALL VERY minor issues and quick little fixes.
Other than those....a VERY SOLID DD that's not given me a moments grief since installing it. :good:

:good:

What is the "Soft Keyboard Fix"? Does that delete the 4.2.2 keyboard or replace it? Steps to flash, or just flash ROM, GAPPS, fix one after another then restart, or restart in between each one?

I was a bit foggy wasn't I? The keyboard fix is just to get it rotating properly and actually popping up when it should without going to inputs and turning off the hardware one. That JB keyboard I put in has worked for me before & It's great when it does but seems to have a personality problems with some ROMs....this being one of them. I included Root Cleaner and it will uninstall system apps in one click. Just use that to dump it.
The installation process I kinda take for granted. I ALWAYS flash the ROM and let it settle in. Then I go back for the Gapps & boot back up and do their intro & sign-ups. Then I go back & run any included patches that come with a ROM. Personally, I've never had any issues doing it that way.
Butch....I don't know about those spellings. I've not had a chance to use everything yet.

Yeah man. I finally had a chance to check it out and that thing is bad. Just tap that little symbol out to the right inside where you select it & turn on Predictive Text. There's about 6 other functions & keyboard setups to choose from too.
I got a bug my Google voice search keeps fcing

I don't know bro. Just ran mine thru it's paces & can't reproduce that one. Installed Apex launcher, icon theme pack, switching back and forth between Tablet UI & Touchwiz and can get there in both. One of the Sweetest ROMs I've run in a LONG while.
Maybe a Dalvik flush and a set permissions in recovery?
Idk I mean i uninstalled the jellybean keyboard does that mean anything

No that wouldn't do it. I had to myself because it was causing me issues too. I did reboot right afterwards though. Might try clearing dalvik & reflashing your Gapps if worse comes to worse.
That JB Keyboard is a stinker though. That's the last I try that thru a ROM. It's a GREAT keyboard but never seems to work right unless it comes directly from the Playstore. You should grab it from there sometimes & give it a whirl.
Yup yup i reflashed and it works now...dal cache wipe was probably the answer thanks again man

just flash this rom, so far the rom is the running very smooth and fast. going to test out the rom in more depth within the weekend.

So far it is running very smoothly. I have all my apps installed, have everything all set up the way I like. Only problems I have had have been onscreen keyboards. The Xperia keyboard wouldn't work at all, just FC. Neither the Samsung keyboard nor the AOSP keyboard will do trace (like Swype), they only work touching each key. The AOSP keyboard will show the trace, but just not enter anything in the field unless I touch each key separately. I wish I could get the trace to work on something as I'm so used to Swype, but I have been reluctant to install Swype unless I just have to do so.
I've set Kernel Tuner up with both cores running 1296/192 and Badass governor, NOOP I/O and 2048 SD cache. So far so good, won't know any battery stats for a couple of days, I think.
I checked mine & it's doing the same as yours Fuzi, so I just went ahead & used Root Cleaner & uninstalled Xperia & Xperia Chinese. I thought that might clear up the issue but afraid not. If I were you I'd go ahead & install Swype on top of it and see if it will activate. Of course if you're where you can just talk, tap the microphone & just dictate into it. It's cool as CRAP for texting, notepad, Playstore...all that stuff. I understand how it is to miss a function you've grown to love though.

[ROM][4.4.2] MIUI V5 4.9.21 - Digitalhigh Edition

Oh snap! It's that time of year again, kids.
What time, pappa Digitalhigh, what time?
Why, it's MIUI time, children!
What is MIUI?
MIUI is a Chinese ROM. Well, not just any ROM, but the most widely used ROM in the damned country.
Essentially, it's *kind of* an IOS clone...but not really. Or maybe like, if Android and iOS got drunk enough one night to get busy, and that resulted in some kind of bastard wunderOS that has a lot of the sexy sensibility of iOS, minus all the stick-up-the-buttedness that comes with it. It has a full suite of custom software, is 100% themeable, and gets weekly updates.
And it's fast.
Now, as this is my first ever release of this for the M8, please be patient as I get settled into MIUI on this device. As the days and weeks progress, I guarantee you I will be spanking in every goodie I know about for MIUI, and some others I've learned about since then.
In testing so far, I know audio, camera, video recording, phone, and 3g/LTE data work. 3G may be a bit spotty as this is based on GPE and I haven't gotten the data drop fix in yet. But it works, and it works smoothly!
I have yet to test bluetooth, headphones, etc...but this is based on the GSM version by @JTJTJ here:

And as usual, I'll be fleshing out the thread and adding more stuff as time goes on...
I'll take this...
This one too...
Thank you, been waiting a long time

Will this work with the new firmware.
sent from me to you.
Flashing now I'll give you an update on what works and what doesn't. Very excited and was waiting for thing for VZW
Edit 1
--------------
Make sure you do a full wipe before flashing rom including internal storage. Cell coverage is spotty and creating a miui account from set up does not work. Connection to WiFi takes a while the first time but eventually connects. Headphones, speakers and bluetooth do work for me, how ever certain parts of the ROM are still in chinese
Edit 2
_______
After Flashing Gapps google keyboard crashes and no longer works
Edit 3
----------------------
Everything is currently working flawless after enabling LTE, nav bar, and a keybaord.

Ohh..excited to see this on the m8

One question, how do I get a nav bar instead of the floating back button like when iOS power button breaks

Wondering the same thing. Do you if there is an option for this already as I know that the gsm version has been floating around for a couple weeks so they may have come up with a nav bar.
And what did you do for a keyboard. I just adb pushed swiftkey and installed that

I'm thinking a build.prop. edit might bring them up. Or generic.kl file

Damn I miss miui. Last build I used was on my droid x. Can't wait to give this a whirl. What's with the floating back button? That may annoy me. Def, we should have the full set of soft keys instead if possible.
How's it running for you?
Awesome, thanks for this! I haven't used MIUI for ages.
BTW, I love your OPs, always good for a laugh!
It's pretty solid I'd give it a 8/10 for a first build however 4G is not working at all for me. 3G works great along with wifi, I haven't noticed any other problems and am liking the ROM. Does take some getting used to though.

You have to go into network settings and pick lte/cdma manually...then it should work. I'm working on it now.
