I successfully added Car Home to my KF to so I can use it as a head unit in my car. I have a couple questions about the shortcut buttons that are preloaded and adding my own shortcuts.
When I hit "Maps" it brings up Google Navigation
When I click "Navigate" it displays the error "Activity not found."
When I click "Add shortcut" I receive the same error "Activity not found."
Does anybody know if it is possible for me to fix these errors?
I'm pretty comfortable with sideloading files, changing permissions, and entering commands into terminal emulators so I'm sure whatever solution I can do it. Thanks!
Your Kindle has no GPS, so using it as a navigation aid will be a bit problematic.
No idea about fixing the specific errors, but I am guessing the GPS thing is the biggest problem in for this operation.

I've already set up my KF so that I am tethered to my phone through GPS and for data. (I guess I should have said that in my original post!)
I side-loaded Google Maps 6.0 and the navigate button works fine with my GPS tethered Fire. I didn't add Car Home, though.
What did you do to get Car Home to work? I can get the icon to show up, and launch, but it just takes me to my homescreen...

Did you change the permissions of the file in system/app using Root Explorer?

Yes I did. It says it's running in my notifications bar, but all I see is my homescreen. Weird, I know.

So, as the title says, I have the N1 resting in the dock and charging. I want to use Google Talk so I tap the home button and open Google Talk. Between the tap on the home icon and anywhere after the Nexus One will automatically return to the clock app. I can tap home again and randomly it will again return to the clock.
Is there a way to a) disable the clock (I'll miss it, but it's almost frustrating enough to never use it again) or b) disable return to the clock app? I don't see any settings to accomplish this so it's probably some power user trick. I don't think this is occurring because the N1 is losing contact with the dock while I'm tapping as it's resting pretty solid in the dock.
Any ideas?
I guess you could put a small piece of tape over the middle pin and that should prevent it from going into the Clock app but still allow it to charge.
try dock nothingness from the market, it will let you select it and when its docked it wont open anything.

Excellent recommendation. I tried a couple of the Droid dock app and they were buggy. This app is consistent. Thanks.

I don't think the app will stop working because it is not a hack, it's using documented and officials Sticky BroadcastReceivers for detecting the dock, opening "Dock Nothingness" instead, however, the "Dock Nothingness" app is nothing, so it closes it self right away giving the user the illusion of the phone not really opening anything
When I read the thread topic, I was like "yeah, its damn frustrating!".
velazcod: Thanks for the app to fix this nuisance.
I look forward to the next version that does even more nothing!
Updated, make sure to go into the app's preferences -> Phone and select "Nexus One / CM5" if you are on CM5.0.3+

Just received my desktop dock and the clock application was driving me mad within 10 minutes of making and receiving calls etc.

One of the things I find irritating about the dock is when I'm playing music through the bluetooth connection it initializes automatically and I take the phone off to send a text or whatnot it unpairs its self. Can I force it to stay paired until I turn off bluetooth?

Yes, connect and pair before docking it
I do that now, but I have to dig through the wireless menu. Is there a widget or something that will connect to a predefined device with one touch?

For some reason the dock won't allow to auto-connect when in range, it does this for other devices, like headsets....
Well new firmware updated the asus my cloud splash top.
It now allows connection using google from outside your own network.
However, for me it force closes if i try to edit my connection settings and when i connect all i get is a black screen.
Anyone else with this issue?
ya i have the same issue with a FC when i hit the "+" button
look for splashtop in menu> applications > all apps

Still no dice.

I cleared my data and still cannot edit my settings for the way the app displays the desktop of my laptop . When I hit the edit button the app force closes. I can still connect to my laptop but because the default resolution setting on the asus is lower than my laptop it instantly screws up my shortcuts. Too bad. I really enjoyed the convenience of working on my computer from my couch using my transformer. FYI. I went to the market and what used to be free(splashtop) now is $2.99. Could be related.
I had the same problem. Right after the update, I was able to connect with gmail, but had FC when trying to edit connection. I also noticed the password would not save no matter if you had the box checked to remember password. So each time you disconnect, you would have to enter the PW again.
After going to SETTINGS, APPLICATIONS, MANAGE APPLICATIONS --> Splashtop Remote, I clicked on Clear data and force stop. When I reopened the my cloud icon it had me agree to the EULA. Then I set up the connections again. It found them automatically with the gmail and also on the local netowork. I was also able to edit settings. My password automatically saved this time also.
One stupid thing that I noticed was that the hints gestures changed. In order to move the screen around you have to use three finger drag. This was different than before. One finger drag moves the mouse now. Took a while to figure it out, as I assumed the gestures were the same and dismissed the hints box. Now this app runs in the native resolution of the computer I connect to. Other than this little hiccup, I'm liking this app more and more each time it updates. Better than log me in for this device for sure.
Thanks reaperzero!

Hey bro i get this app from the market Honeybar it work great with root access.
I work with touchwiz work 100%.
Program tested MX Video Player,Dolphin Browser HD.
It works well and I suggest using Button Savior in conjunction. Barely seen my taskbar in a week
Works pretty well, main problems I have with it are accidentally re-enabling the taskbar in games (tapping near the bottom), and also accidentally hiding it when trying to hit the 'menu' button in portrait mode. They're too close together so it's hard to avoid hitting it.
I asked the author about the possibility of other trigger locations, or gestures, and he responded but didn't sound like he planned to do anything soon.
I installed HB myself, and although it is nice in some ways to get the taskbar (I use that reference with tongue'in'cheeck) out of the way, there are too many apps I have that place "menu" in the location of the hidden button even when I set it to shift left. Many apps I have to rotate to landscape to get to the apps settings menu hidden behind the shift-left positioning for HB. It's just not a sound UI choice.
The option to just leave the taskbar hidden and use Button Savior is better, but it's like using one hack to make another one work halfway correctly in its effects. HB needs more development and it doesn't look like it's going to happen as of now.

Thanks very much for your info. Yeah... this Button Savior is a real true name in case of the HoneyBar's gone somewhere..
Problem I see with using Button Savior all the time is that you do lose the notifications.. and then it's still easy to accidentally bring back the real bar when playing games etc. Oh well.

I don't know about the games... the notification is hiding except the sound but the real trouble is when the call is coming.... you have to activate the task bar to bring back the panel "Answer or Denied" (!!!)
FYI

I did indeed get quite angry at the loss of notifications but I was able to (sort of) get around that by changing the screen density to 171 using Blade Buddy. This set me back to a 2.x launcher.
It doesn't really work 100% however as browser, Gmail, Google Talk will constantly crash. I was able to work around the browser by just getting another browser and Gmail by uninstalling the Honeycomb version of Gmail and installing the Gingerbread version. I didn't care enough to do anything more than uninstall Google Talk.
On the positive side I no longer have to deal with the taskbar. Ever.

Does the Gingerbread version have the Gingerbread UI? i.e. without the multi-paned stuff? I tried loading a Gingerbread version a while back but it didn't work (just crashed). I prefer Gingerbread style -- more room for the content rather than lists of labels.

Yes this is exactly my only issue with honeybar. it would be nice if we could choose the right side as the "offset". Even in portrait I have space just to the right of center that would allow access to honeybar on/off and not interfere with the menu on a lot of apps.
There's a much better way to do this. Using tasker, I have a profile set up that auto hides the toolbar for certain apps and then restores it automatically when I switch away from them.
Follow the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301857

Yes but how do you switch away from them?
That is actually what I am trying to figure out how to do. I am trying to set it up when in specific apps it takes away the task bar but also only within these apps after something... (haven't really figured that out yet) happens it will bring it back for an exit. In a perfect world I would love to be able to press both volume buttons to close an app. Which in this case would be perfect but tasker can't do that...
I'm using task switcher pro. It lets you map a gesture to the back button or home button.
Sent from my GT-P6210 using Tapatalk
what might be cool is to "shake" device to bring back the bar.
you guy also can use AutomateIt... kind of like tasker but to me it more friendly user...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123423
and the pro version is cheaper too...
Using tasker I did manage to make the bar go away by shaking. Instead of setting programs to do it make it toggle the bar by using a shake. I don't have it in front of me to do step by step but if someone wants me to I can put it up.
I would most certainly love to see that "How too" Zadeis.
Thanks.

OK the link smaug408 put up leads to a guide on how to set up a task that when an App starts it will remove the bar at the bottom. The thing is though you no longer have a back button and get out of the app unless it has a dedicated exit button.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301857
I take no credit for the premade files for tasker. The thanks goes to the creator Quietthinker through that link.
-First Open the link and download the attached StatusBarToggle.zip and place the files into /sdcard/Tasker/tasks (in this case you will only need the StatusBarToggle.tsk.xml, the StatusBar_Hide.tsk.xml, and the StatusBar_Show.tsk.xml files)
-Second open tasker and go to the "tasks tab" and tap and hold the Tasks Tab at the top. An options window will come up but select Import and import all of them into tasker
-Third go to the profiles tab and tap the Green plus at the left and give it a name. ShakeToToggle can work but you can name it whatever you like.
A context window will popup and you will select Event and then the Sensor Category and finally select the Shake Event.
You can mess around with the setting for the shake gesture now or tweak it in to your liking after everything is set up up to you.
-Forth once you have the setting you like press the green check mark, select the StatusBarToggle task and you are done. Now when you shake your tablet side to side it will make the status bar go away.
Now I just happened to figure out that you can shake instead of using an app for the context. I take little credit for how this works.
This method requires Super User Permissions. It will ask on the first toggle of the bar if you allow it to remember it afterward, if not it will ask each time.
Great app. Works perfectly
So, I got the Verizon JB update and it used to be that double-tapping the home button by default opened S-Voice, but you could change it to open any voice actions app you wanted. I use AVX which runs circles around Siri and all the others (including, dare I say it - Google Now - not for getting info by voice but for controlling your phone by voice).
Anyway, since the update it appears double tapping on the home button does nothing and I don't see any way to change this. Am I missing something? Or is this a bug that was never meant to happen? Or did they just decide to take it away for no reason?
If anyone's wondering, I haven't found a native solution for this, but the app Home2shortcut will do the trick...

Hi there,
As you might have read on the PX5 board threads, I was struggling with the ease of use of the stock FM Radio app when driving. If you don't have to SWC you first have to press home from navigating, and open the radio app, or use the widgets, to switch channels. I didn't like that like, so I started to inspect the radio and radio widget .apk files. In there I found some pieces of code that remotely allow to control the FM Radio app.
What my app does is 'listen' to the information the stock FM Radio app is outputting. It can get the current frequency and channel. It shows this information on a notification on your HU. This notification also consists of three buttons to go to the previous channel, the next channel, and turn of the radio.
The current frequency and channel are also pushed to the Android Media Session with media button support. This means other apps (like AnyAutoAudio) or widgets can display the currently playing frequency and channel. You can also control the radio with the media buttons Android support. USB keyboards or BT devices that support these buttons should work! I haven't tested it, but this also means the FM Radio can be used in Android Auto. As soon as you open another media app (like Poweramp), that app will take over the media buttons (as expected). If you want to switch back to FM just press the power button on the notification and you're back.
This app is at an early stage right now. I'd like to see it as a proof of concept. It currently only works with FM. It can't show AM information yet. I am not an Android developer, so it might contain a few bugs and glitches. Let me know if you find anything.
I made a little video a few days ago when I had my first proof of concept working. This video does not display the media button support. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/JNUAi0KNGmM
Let me know what you think! Ideas and suggestions are always welcome.
Download: https://gerbenbol.com/android/com.gerbenbol.hctradiocontroller.apk
So I gave this ago, it seems like it's nearly there for Android Auto. AnyAndroidAuto does pick it up and displays what station is on but AndroidAutos next/pause/previous buttons do not effect it. Also if I change radio station the widget in AndroidAuto does not update to reflect this. Any idea why this is?
That's too bad.
Does the info in the notification change when you switch channel? The media session which feeds info widgets etc. seem to be a bit flaky right now.
Do you have any other media widgets that show the current playing media?
edit: @Dec64, gave it a try this morning. My widgets didn't make it control, or had the latest station displayed, but the native Android media buttons worked fine. Very strange... Do you happen to know what commands AnyAndroidAuto send? It should work for the next/previous/pause buttons. I'll see if I can make some changes today.

Yeah the info in the notification changed, and worked perfectly just didn't feed that information down to AA. I had no other media widgets at that time.
No unfortunately I don't know what commands are sent. What is weirder still is this morning on my way to work, after about 20mins the HU turned off the radio and changed menus in AA to the music menu and said nothing is playing...Yet i touched nothing. I put the radio back on and after 5mins it turned back off and I was sent to the phone menu. The only thing new running was your widget, very odd, I dont know how that is even possible.

Weird! I've rewritten a load of code, and it should be more stable now. I'm testing on an Android Emulator and and simulate some information the FM Radio would send, so I hope it's better now!

I use the intent "hct.radio.power.switch" to turn the radio on or off. This is different from the intent Dec64 posted. Mine only turns off the radio, it doesn't shut down the radio app. So use what fits the most.

I like AA on my HU because it displays the info i need quickly and at all times, but the major draw backs where the radio not showing, and the phone menu not working properly.

I've been looking into that, but I believe the radio app doesn't 'share' that information. But I'll have another look.
But first gotta look into the AA issue.
What I did notice on my own HU, as soon as the Radio app starts, the sound goes on, and directly off again at boot. Did any of you notice that?
