it's a truth of the world that salesmen will lie to make a sale, it now appears that they will lie to prevent a sale....
no nexus S will ever be sim locked.

As far as I know every single Nexus S is factory unlocked (Google requirement)...

So does that mean the salesman is just lying?cuz at&t wanta it to be called "locked"?
Btw thanks for replies guys!

I've seen too many cellphone salesmen say so many incorrect things about devices, or their own plans and policies that I usually bundle them with used car salesmen until they've "proven themselves"...

Unlocking my g2x

So I want to unlock my phone and i'm wondering the best way to do this.
I have seen those unlocking sites, and wondering if that's the way to go.
Is there a way to do it myself for free? If so that would be the best any ways if you know of any threads explaining how to do so
Thanks in advance.

I locked mine with a code I bought from eBay. No annoying TMO reps to deal with and if you are not a TMO customer best way to go.

Bought a Verizon phone from friend, is it "mine" now account wise?

So I bought a phone from a friend and I was wondering now that it's activated, is it truly mine? I ask because he bought it using his account an upgrade under his name. How can I make it truly mine, if that makes sense. That way if I need support from Verizon, I can take the phone in.

I don't see how this will work if you actually buy a phone full price and not on a contract. Because like you stated, if you buy something it's yours.
Interesting

I would understand if the device was leased..but last I checked cell companies don't do that.
If you are paying anywhere between 200 and 600 bucks fit something they will never see again and plan to switch providers but now can't afford a handset then it's bs.

wow in the UK we went the opposite way a couple years back. We totally got rid of the power to lock down devices! It just makes no sense to lock them

Guys, please take a moment to sign this https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/make-unlocking-cell-phones-legal/1g9KhZG7

To be clear though the law does not outlaw unlocking the phone.
You are still legally able to unlock the device but you need to have the code from the manufacturer or carrier.
It makes it illegal to hack the phone to sim unlock like what is done with the iPhone.
If buy it on contract I can understand it, sort of...
If you buy it retail its not locked in the first place, at least not here. Hell, I dont think even contract phones are locked lol (my blade wasnt).

Moving from vzw to att

Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Well you have the GS4 the One and the LG Optimus G Pro to choose from. As far as the latest phones anyways....
Sent from my LG-LS970
Why not the nexus 4 and you don't have to worry about a contact and this way you can try att or T-Mobile and see what works best for you.

T-Mobile warranty exchange One s for NEXUS 4

So if you guys want a new phone and have T-Mobile PHP you can do a warranty exchange for a Nexus 4.
Just ordered one for my gf, $5 for a Nexus 4 is a great deal, so if I were you guys I wouldn't pass it up.

Well I work there lol, so when picking the exchange device you can choose either a one s or nexus 4. You can call T-Mobile and tell them you want to do a warranty exchange and ask if you can have the nexus 4 as the exchange option.

And why would they let you chose between a one s and nexus 4? Its not like these phones are comparable, they would be stupid to offer such a deal.

While I agree this is HILARIOUS and I'm also quite confused as to how he did that, I'm here to confirm that you absolutely can get a Nexus 4 in exchange for your One S. It's only a $5 replacement fee and its all yours. Just have to say you have some sort of problem with your phone. I'll have mine on Monday. I love my One S but its time to say goodbye.
Do you do it in store, online or over the phone?

exactly how did you go about doing this? what "problem" did you say you had with your phone? also was this in store, phone, or online? I want to do this, but I don't know how I would bring it up.
I don't believe this one bit.. I bet the other dude confirming knows this guy or it's his 3rd account... It doesn't explain why he was talking to himself I call it bs think a mod should close it

Whether or not this is made up, doesn't anyone think this is unethical to cheat warranty when there is nothing wrong with the phone?
I work in an automotive garage and I can tell you a little honesty goes a long ways.

they don't care what phone you have. they want happy customers that keep paying that monthly bill.
So they don't mind buying you a new phone whenever you feel like it, and only as long as you lie to them about it lol.
Right.
