Unlocking my g2x - T-Mobile LG G2x

So I want to unlock my phone and i'm wondering the best way to do this.
I have seen those unlocking sites, and wondering if that's the way to go.
Is there a way to do it myself for free? If so that would be the best any ways if you know of any threads explaining how to do so
Thanks in advance.

Call T-Mobile and they will give you 1 for free, to hell with paying for it!

haha perfect that's definitely the best way. Who do I talk to an what do I need to say?

I locked mine with a code I bought from eBay. No annoying TMO reps to deal with and if you are not a TMO customer best way to go.

Unlocking help :)

Hey guys just bought a used sgs4g from T-Mobile I want to unlock it for use on other GSM networks. O have been at it for two hours but I can't seem to get it.
I've been using dagentooboys tutorials and free app but neither work.
I can't find the 0x1469 address on the NV_data.bin
Someone please help
Thank you
You can call up tmob after a while and have them unlock it for you
I think it's 90 days...or it might be 1 phone every 90 days...just call and ask.the worst that can happen is that they say no. tell them you ate going out of the country. Europe. Do it big

Haha except I don't have service with tmo. I'm just using it on wifi ...any other ideas?
Try going into a Tmobile store and asking...or 3rd party cell stores...

Do the guides no longer work?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
the guides work, but there are a lot of people that mess things up. Its easy to break and very tough to fix. I'm just trying to save you a lot of trouble. If you do follow a guide, make sure you read the entire thread. And back up your efs folder.

Did you pay cash for the phone? You can call them since they're the sellers of it.

it's a truth of the world that salesmen will lie to make a sale, it now appears that they will lie to prevent a sale....
no nexus S will ever be sim locked.
As far as I know every single Nexus S is factory unlocked (Google requirement)...
So does that mean the salesman is just lying?cuz at&t wanta it to be called "locked"?
Btw thanks for replies guys!

I've seen too many cellphone salesmen say so many incorrect things about devices, or their own plans and policies that I usually bundle them with used car salesmen until they've "proven themselves"...

Leaving the GS4G

I took advantage of this weekends "free" phone for upgrade or a new contract and grabbed the t mobile Galaxy S 2. Ive been on the galaxy bandwagon since I had first got my vibrant and plan to stay on it. I just wanted to say thanks to raverx3x, dsexton, fbis251, the whole team acid, krylon360, dr honk, whitehawkx, airfluip and all the other devs who have prevented us from throwing our phones out the window while going 60mph. And thank you for sticking with us despite much trolling. ill be selling mine shortly but ill stick around here and always am willing to answer anyones questions, and hope I see some familar faces in the gs2 side of the forums. Peace.

You made the right decision.

It was less of a decision to leave the phone as much as it was to get a newer phone for free instead of shelling out a couple hundred $ later on.
We're u due for an upgrade or added a new Line?

I was due for an upgrade. What i didnt know was that you have to switch to an unlimited plan for the promotion. Which at 20$ more a month doesnt sound to bad. Might switch back after i get my rebate though lol. And thanks ive been waiting to get that having a new phone itch back. I love it so far. Familiar but different as well.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
so you didnt have to add a line? is it just free upgrades on all the lines?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Only if you qualify for a full uograde. Otherwise youd have to add a line.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Just to clarify, this promotion was TODAY ONLY, and only at corporate Tmobile retail centers.
Online as well i believe

You're right, online as well. I was more gearing towards this offer not being available at Walmart and Staples, etc. (But im sure if you asked a price match could be brought into play )

Need phone outta contract

How can I get my phone meid unlocked so that I can send it to beigephone and get it flashed to page plus. This DFB didn't pay her bill so I'm stuck with a bolt I can't do anything with but Wi-Fi use any ideas
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda app-developers app
I guess is that it's not possible fml
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda app-developers app
i have no intentions of flashing to another carrier, but several thunderbolt users i've seen have been able to flash to pageplus. you may need CDMA workshop if you want to do it yourself, i think CDMA workshop is around $100.00. there's a free demo version too, but i'm not sure that the demo would be sufficient to do this.
check this out:

and this one, probably the most useful:

I'm not sure that you can 'unlock' an meid yourself, that's something the carrier has to do (with stolen phones and whatnot)
So if it's on her account, she'll have to get in touch with them herself and give her IMEI number and account details. They should then give an unlock code to make the phone usable again.
If that IMEI number has been flagged (as stolen or possibly delinquent) even an unlocking service won't be able to help you until the carrier clears it.

What you are looking for is to CLEAR the MEID/IMEI so that it can be used on another account.
You can't do that. Only the carrier can. Until the account is settled/paid with the carrier, that MEID/IMEI will be associated/assigned to that account and therefore can't be used on a different account.
Since PagePlus uses VZW towers/service (to my knowledge), you're stuck until the old account issues are settled.
Yup I'm stuck with Wi-Fi only thunderbolt this sux I guess she won in the long run although I have seen some nice prepaid phone's I seen an HTC one and some evo 4g's that have ics and are affordable virgin mobile and boost have unlimited data

So someone else didn't pay the bill for your phone and you're mad about it? Why don't you pay for your own phone?

I don't see how this will work if you actually buy a phone full price and not on a contract. Because like you stated, if you buy something it's yours.
Interesting

I would understand if the device was leased..but last I checked cell companies don't do that.
If you are paying anywhere between 200 and 600 bucks fit something they will never see again and plan to switch providers but now can't afford a handset then it's bs.

wow in the UK we went the opposite way a couple years back. We totally got rid of the power to lock down devices! It just makes no sense to lock them

To be clear though the law does not outlaw unlocking the phone.
You are still legally able to unlock the device but you need to have the code from the manufacturer or carrier.
It makes it illegal to hack the phone to sim unlock like what is done with the iPhone.
If buy it on contract I can understand it, sort of...
If you buy it retail its not locked in the first place, at least not here. Hell, I dont think even contract phones are locked lol (my blade wasnt).
