Wondering if your device will get ICS? - Android General

JR Raphael has stolen ANOTHER idea of mine (just kidding, that guy's a friggin GENIOUS) and put together a comprehensive list of devices that will, should, might, and won't get ICS. It was updated this morning, and looks like he's maintaining it beautifully! As he states, if you don't see your device, it probably means work is still in progress, and no decision has been made yet...

As long as my S2 gets it, I'm happy.

I just want to see a non-beta Tytung HD2 version. That won't happen until the Nexus S gets ICS.

This is a really weird analysis, he talks about the Mytouch 3g and 3g Slide but NOT the Mytouch 4g and 4g Slide

Interesting they are giving ICS to Moto Droid but not to the Droid X or X2?

Try being an Atrix owner... There's a ton of upset forums on this...
Went through the list, didn't see anything for Atrix, so l just e-mailed the guy and we'll see his judgement. No matter what he says though, it's upto Moto, and as any Canadian would understand, through our "beloved" carriers.
If my Atrix doesn't get ICS, lm done with Moto forever.

It's already begun. This is a Desire HD. There is plenty already available, including CM7.
what doesnt work on cm7 for it?
Well the thing is, we have to wait n see what bootloader it has, if it the old one or the one that we can downgrade, then we can root, and if we can root, ummm im pretty positive we can flash any rom from the Desire HD rom section.

I already have a root procedure in mind that I think will work. The HBOOT doesn't matter - the exploit in the newer HTC devices was not in the HBOOT. But the radio version does.

Momentarily. The Aria will still need support for CM. I'm it. This device is established and has good support already. We just need to document the procedure to root and get custom recovery on it, which will be a little more complex than the Euro DHD.
regoice, the great and mighty attn1 has come to the inspire, not sure if its a good thing or not as i still am using my aria but.... oh well.
I will have this phone when it comes out on the 13th, looking forward to some modding. I'm coming from an iphone, JB, customized etc, it's no longer any fun. Hope the roms work and the root is easily attainable, I will be back in here when i get the phone....5 days
I will be getting one of these on launch, though I'm not sure if stores are going to have the phone for a more expensive price than what's shown online. I'm coming from an HTC Fuze and this will be a big improvement for me....now I'll have a nice shiny new gadget to sleep with.
I'm hoping that by some stroke of luck I'll get one that allows sideloading but if not, there are ways around that....I don't like my devices being locked in any way. How long does it generally take to root new phones when they're out? I'm new to Android (been a WM person for quite a few years now) so I'm still trying to read as much as I possibly can about the OS and how it works.

Once I owned Android Id never go back to anything else.
The complexity of rooting is dependent on the device.
Some phones are rooted even before launch day, hahaha.

Looking forward to getting the Inspire as well, really thinking that I'll get one at launch. From all indication this should be very similar to DHD. Hopefully the device will be rooted very quick.
I seriously hope we have a root on launch day lol, i mean stock sense is ok but I can only deal w it for so long.

Thanks for the information! Yeah I'm looking forward to this Sunday - I'm probably going to just go in the store when it opens and grab one up then waste the ENTIRE DAY tinkering with it and giggling like a baby with candy.
One thing I didn't see in those articles was the radio firmware for the phone. I've installed and tested... quite a few radios on my Fuze in order to achieve the best possible phone and GPS signal I can get. Is this possible once the phone is rooted?

All signs point to yes, undoubtedly we are going to blow this Inspire 4G up with root goodness, then once we get a custom recovery BAM! custom roms are soon to come after that. Overclocking the phone will yield results similar to Dual Core devices as posted by me in another thread.
The real power of this phone will shine brightly after all the above

Yea im pretty sure this things never gonna be upgraded, updated, or unlocked. i had to return my phone for repairs yesterday (had about 100 dead pixels out of no where) and when i went in to Cincinnati bell they had no idea what i was talking about when i asked about them about an update, and he said " I think they are just gonna wait and upgrade it to 2.3" but i know thats not happening. and when i called and talk to motorola to get the shipping info the guy said "hey we have the same phone" so i said "are they ever gonna unlock it or upgrade it" and surprise surprise he said "no its gonna stay on 2.1" and some other stuff i couldnt understand. so atleast we have some awesome people here at xda that can get right what motorola cant.

I talked to the CBW guys downtown in Career Tower (sub contracted, not corporate store) about the elusive upgrade they are supposedly working on and you would have thought I was the 2nd coming. He was excited but had no idea what I was talking about. I mentioned the Facebook page thinking b/c he is not corporate that he might know more backroom stuff and he had no idea about it. Thank you for xda, b/c CBW's right hand doesn't talk to its left hand b/c it is dolling out money to Motorola for exclusive contracts to outdated or locked phones.
And always remember, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Nothing surprising here...
Hopefully we get some success with the CM7 soon... Also hope CB does actually come through with that update -but it has been two months+ and we still haven't seen anything...
I just wish Motorola would unlock the freaking bootloader. That's seriously the least they can do... unfortunately that's probably not going to happen.
This very strange because my bell contract told me that they considering going to 2.2.3 I have seen their 2.2.1 update but not the 2.2.3 I don't trust bell but I also here motor is holding them up.

thanks for this. I want to ask a quick question, off topic but in the same vein. I am noticing that they are feverishly working on cracking the bootloader for the EVO 3D and there are tips and tricks coming from that phone to us. Is this because there are more people with that phone and more developers or is the Sensation not the hot pick? I know a few people that had the HD2, along with me, that left t-mo for the Evo3D once they saw the specs. Just curious. thanks for the post again.

We'll have to keep an eye on the EVO 3D for hacks. Most of T-Mobile USA's best tinkerers aren't on the Sensation yet, while many of Sprint's have jumped from the EVO to the 3D. Thankfully the phones are similar enough that we should benefit pretty well.

I think it's a function of the difficulty of jumping carriers in the US. The 3D is the first tempting Sprint phone to come along since the first EVO so the devs are moving to it. On T-Mobile, we've had the MT4G, G2, and G2x as hacking options, so the community has been splintered a bit. I think once we get the Sensation cracked open, plenty of devs will come work on it. They're just not leaving their other root-friendly phones yet.
Ok let's get back on subject. Has anyone tried this yet. I'm at work, but I can try when I get home.

Here's another simpler solution
I downloaded the app Volume+ from the market. There is also a free version at the developer's site: androidaudiohacks.com/home/volume-gingerbread/download
I was able to raise the media volume so high I had to lower it some.
Downloading QPST now will feed back in a while.
it's a no go for me.
QPST is software for CDMA handsets.

[Q] Supposedly another OTA coming?

hey guys although i havent find nothing online that said so but a seen a few people talking about it in threats and even a tmobile sales men told me that there suppost to be a another ota for the g2x. some people thinks its gonna be 2.3.4 and have the LG Camera in it?
im just wanted to pass this along
and i will appreciate no hateful comments against LG/Tmobile.
we have this phone and we just go from there
Well, we're getting ICS either way thanks to Cyanogen... But it would be nice if LG and T-Mobile still showed some love for our phones!
I kind of doubt we will see another OTA update anytime soon but if we do great.
T mobile is all about the Sensation and Galaxy S 2, and LG has had enough if this fiasco of a phone. Cyanogen is the only hope of this ever getting another update, of any flavor.

it was 2.3.4 and their ota its 2.3.3 i talked to my friend today to see if he heard anything of another ota for the g2x. he said no he hasnt heard anything and pretty much they have forgotten or given up with the g2x.
my opinion on this is if this phone isnt going to be that much of a deal to companies. well i thing NVIDIA should release their drivers to the devs!!!

If the "OTA" is going to be 2.3.4, it's going to be outdated. We've been on 2.3.5<-- for almost 2 months now. (Well, with CM7, EB, Faux123, MIUI, etc.)
well that would be nice to see 2.3.4 at least.. maybe they can make the damn 4g icon and signal bars green like gingerbread is suppose to be. then give us the lg cam back then hopefully give us gtalk with video chat.. since skype hates tegra 2's and wont support are phones.. i shouldnt have to root my phone to get things that should just work with a stock rom.

Correct, it's just with google on the back of the phone like the G2. Only Google phones made are the nexus line.
Hell will freeze over before this phone gets another official update. If you wont root and update it yourself but are savvy enough to use xda you have no one to blame but yourself.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
The difference is that the devices in the Google Nexus line have their roms developed by Google engineers. Other devices must rely on the respective manufacturer to update them. On the Nexus line Google also pushes out the OTA themselves and never takes them down like T-Mobile did for the G2X. That was lame. Why not keep the OTA on your servers forever like Google does. Plus Google lets anyone get the OTA on any carrier. TMO limited it to people connected to their network (not even MVNOs) only. Since Google does their testing of new versions of Android on their own Nexus line, new roms get pushed out pretty darn fast. Soon, alas, they are going to declare the venerable Nexus One end of life (EOL) and stop providing roms for it. It might get ICS but we'll have to wait and see.
But the G2X is a great phone and the differences between 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 and 2.3.6 are so minimal there is nothing really to be upset about. No O2X worldwide has even gotten any official versions of GB yet, so you can be thankful, for once, that the US is a litigious society and the class action forced LG to release GB before they planned to. But now that they did, any future versions are questionable. LG doesn't have a good record of updating phones very often or very quickly.
i almost got to the point where i was gonna trade my g2x for a nexus s just because its a google phone and i know it will always be updated fast. but its hard to down grade from the g2xs nice specs

Nah, I'm with you on that one. This is my 2nd bad experience with Moto, and it's like "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me."
I had a CliqXT which wasn't bad at the time and came with Eclair (2.1), we were on their timeline for the great GB update and it kept getting pushed further and further, finally after half a year of waiting Moto pulled out and said no, you're stuck on 2.1 Fortunately we weren't locked down and Turl brought us CM7.
A few phones later, here I am with the Atrix2, a completely locked down phone that leaves you at the mercy of Moto to update it and do something with it, and we all know how much you can rely on Moto to satisfy their customers. They said that they would unlock bootloaders, technically they did, but nowhere near the capacity that Moto users as a whole appreciate. It's a shame too, because their hardware is solid, but ultimately it's their loss.

saw that. Moto satisfies customers who don't hack into their phones and do stuff they like! They want us to stick with what they give by locking up stuff. That's where it sucks! :/

I bet if they conducted the survey here on XDA, the result would be drastically different. I have a friend with the Razor, and another with an Atrix HD. My old Skyrocket, running CM10.1 nightly, with a custom kernel and radio, out performs both in almost every aspect. It's a shame that Moto would make such a potentially incredible device and then hide most of that potential behind a locked boot loader under the guise of protecting me from myself. Definitely my last Motorola device. End rant, back to work for me.lol
