[Q] The software is APP2SD. Do you want to view ... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi
every time I download an app or upgrade an app, I got the message "The software is APP2SD. Do you want to view the package detail and move it?"
Is there any way to remove this message, I don't want my app on my external SD.
Thanks for your help

I found the solution.
If someone needs it, here it is
adb shell pm setInstallLocation 1
That will force installation on Internal SD, replace by "2" to force on external SD and "0" to auto

thanks very handy
will this also work for the DATA download from Gameloft games?
they usually reside on /sdcard/gameloft/
currently i'm using mount script to forward them to /sdcard/external_sd/gameloft/

I don't really know about gameloft. But when I tough my problem was solved (I downloaded a random app from the market and this app didn't ask where I wanted to install it) I found out, downloading a second app that I got the message popping up again :-(
Too bad, I have no idea how to fix it. When I restore apps from Titanium, each of them ask for an install location even if I force Titanium to install them on the internal SD.
If anybody has a clue, I will be thankfull

Way to backup applications to sd card easy way

I just did this as a reply to another topic. An easy way to backup and run applications from your SD CARD is to go to the Android Market and download App Manager. It is free and what it does is backup all the applications that you have on your phone to your SD Card and also it allows the option to run all the applications directly from the SD Card. I just did it and it worked. Try it out and comment on how it works.
This works without creating an ext2 partition? Have you actually deleted the app from your on-board memory, leaving only the copy found on your SD card?
I'm skeptical to say the least.
It doesnt let you run apps from the SD Card, It will let you back up and install apps from the Card.

And you are right to be. It doesn't do that, it merely creates a backup on the SD card. The author never claimed that it would do any other thing.

Exactly.

Astro does this. Just open it up, hit menu, then app manager.

Oh, my bad. I meant the author of AppManager.
I wasn't too clear
In response to the replies, yes I was a bit wrong. However this does help in certain occasions such as if one downloads an application and wants to back it up and/or share it with another person. In my case, I wanted to find a way to be able to share MP4 Youtube downloader with my friends as it had been removed from the market. But I am thankful for all the criticism as it is better to right than partiallly right. Sorry for misleading anyone.

[GUIDE]Full Apps2SD on 2.2 Froyo

Hi,
As you guys know Froyo has the Feature of installing Apps 2 Sd card directly. But a lot of apps still Remain on The Internal Memory. It also depends on the Developer of the app if they want to allow people to install on SD card or Not.The Following will Lift up that limit and you can install Each and every app On the Sd Card.
Things required:-
Root
Terminal Emulator
Instructions:-
Open Terminal and type:-
su
pm setInstallLocation 2
(Note:Above is case sensitive)
usage:-
After typing the above if everything is successful you will go back to #
Now to explain the Above:-
Froyo has 3 Switches to install apps-
1-Internal
2-External
0-Auto
u can select any of them by typing : pm setInstallLocation <switch>
U can also Get to Know the Present Path by typing: pm getInstallLocaton
Another thing to note:
Some apps will fail to install on external Mem.the work around to that is.Set the default location to internal Mem.Install App.Set the Default location to External Mem.go to Settings->Program->Manage Applications and click on the installed app.You will find the Settings to Move to SD card.
The above has been tested by me on:-
MIUI 11th December Rom
Cronos 1.7.0
CM6.1 (12.12.10)
Please feel free to contact me in case of any probs.

No Probs Mate...Hope others also find it useful
This is specially useful on MIUI where you do not have the CMparts included.
Since its actually included as a Sub Menu in the Cyanogenmod!
But dang! i still cant get angry birds to work
Never tried Angry Birds.Cm had the option to install to SD but still a lot of apps used to take up internal Storage and just refused to go to SD.....So this should be helpful in those cases as well
thx a lot, works like a charm
posted your HowTo on Android-Hilfe to more spread it in our German community: http://www.android-hilfe.de/root-ha...2221-how-full-apps2sd-auf-2-2-froyo-roms.html
Mods.....how about Making it a Sticky?
thank you! i searched a bit and found out, that there is a little app for this already called "Mod Install Location For Root". Its in the market...
Or you could use the built in feature for doing this
Go to Preferences->CM Extra / (or something else having CM as menu item name) -> Application Settings->Install location and there you have a nice GUI
works on Cronos <=1.70 and CM6.1
Dunno about MIUI
As someone mentioned, in CM6 you can set it in settings. Would you know how to partition the SD card to have linux partition and fat32?

Yes But there are other Mods also...Not just CM and Cronos.Anyway..about partitions..In the latest open recovery there is an option called eclair mods->Menu apps2sd...You can partition your card from there.but it will format everything so be careful. But you do NOT need to fomat the card while Using Froyo to install in Sd card.

You dont really need to format it on 2.2..it will work anyway...and to answer your question. So to settings->Applications->Manage Applications->click on the app...you will see either Move to Phone or Move to SD..if move to Phone then the app is installed on SD card and vice versa

Apps2sd native option

So, i can set this up to give you guys an option during rom flashing to have a Apps2sd native option during the flashing process. What it will do is while the rom is flashing in CWM, it will ask if you want all apps installed to sd or if you want them installed to internal memory. Would you guys want this included?

Isn't it quite dangerous installing apps to SD card by default? There are a lot of them that may create problems when running from SD card. Plus I found that some apps would not install to SD at all (Google Maps as far as I remember, and some others.) They can be moved to SD later, but direct installation to SD just fails.
This is only for aftermarket app installs. Either 3rd party or market.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Google Maps or Youtube (another one that would refuse to install directly to SD) are actually aftermarket apps. When I was moving them to SD to clean up some internal storage I had to uninstall them first (with TitaniumBackup), then reinstall to phone memory from the market, and only then move to SD.
It would be neat to have a simple program that would switch the setInstallLocation on demand. I wish somebody would write such app.
I think that would be a great option for roms on the sgs4g.
I like this phone and it has great potential but internal storage/app management will always be an issue. It would be nice to automatically move third party apps to SD during setup. Most run fine from SD and the few that don't can be moved to internal easily enough after rom install.
Thanks Krylon for working on this btw...

I think it is a great idea. Maybe making available an option where you can turn it off and on?
I don't think it's a good idea,i would like to be able to choose for myself which apps are installed where, some apps can be installed to sd card, but then you lose widget options.

You could still just choose save to internal, then move the ones you want later manually. Or the other way around. Move all to external and move them back if you want.
So my vote is, yes please. ;-)

+1. cant wait to get cwm back. My flashing addiction is getting to the point where not having it is about to cause me to have a complete meltdown. Lol
I think this is a great idea and for those of you that don't want this on your phone remember he said that this is only an option, he never said it was mandatory if he added the option.

I would love this option. Just so I understand, I'm a little slow, would market still ask where we would like to install, and if so would the market think it was installing to the internal when it was actually installing to sd card. In other words would we still continue to choose to install to internal mem, but in actuality it is installing to sd. My brain hurts.
Long story short... yes, I would like that very much thank you.
As far as I understand the process, with setInstallLocation set to 2 all you programs will go the SD card by default. No questions asked. You'll have to move to phone manually the ones you don't want on SD.
Some programs will fail to install completely. Seems like all Google apps do that, at least for now. You'll have to revert back to default install location to install such apps.

OP by Krylon
What this means is.
When you are in CWM recovery, and going to install a new ROM, CWM will ask you where you want the Apps to install. You can choose internal, or external SD. Then CWM will finish the install of the ROM placing the apps where you tell it. I am not sure which apps will have problems or not running from the external SD. But when it happens and if you run into problems with certain apk's on the external SD, you can just pull the apk and move it back to internal.
That is how I understand it anyways.
Oh, if that is all it is - where to place programs *during* ROM installation - it's perfectly fine then. I thought that during ROM flashing the option to install all apps afterwards would be preset either this or that way.

I was thinking the same thing. erp de derp!
I would be curious to see/know how many apps would be rejected this way. Which would be more work, deleting and reinstalling X # of apps or moving X # of apps to the sd card. Still, either way my vote remains to have the option.
I second the motion. Definitely yes!

Here u go !!!!
I dont think this app is avaliable in the market.
What i would advice u is to do a clean instal.
Please note that all widgets need to be stored on the phone memory only, else they will not run. Besides that, any program that stores information (eg 3rd party mail clients) should be on the phone memory.
This is the most simple and effect program i have come across

Apps2SD All in one tool[2.3+]: Partition SD card and Move/Link Apps to SD card [ROOT]

Hi all,
This is my first post in XDA but I've been a regular reader as a guest. I've developed an app(Apps2SD) to move/link apps from internal storage to external SD card with lots of other cool features.
Apps2SD has evolved from being an app which moves app data to sd card to an all in one app with many cool features.

Prerequisites:
Device needs to be rooted
Root permission should be granted to Apps2SD
2 partitions on external SD card (use Apps2SD partition tool to create 2nd partition). 1st partition should be FAT/exFat partition, this is your standard SD card storage. The second partition is used as the internal storage for linked application files and can be ext2, ext3, ext4 or f2fs.

HI Vicky,
let me first congratulate you on making such a useful app which has so many features .Does this app has any device limitations .
thanks , Rahul
Thank you Rahul,
There is no device restriction apart from Android version. The app is supported on android 2.3+.
The app won't partition my 32gb card on a Galaxy Tab 4. It keeps instructing me to reboot. Once I do, the app auto-starts, attempts to partition, then fails. Again, it instructs me to reboot. I never make it past this point. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. Thanks for the app and your time.

Please let me know your device name and android version. Ideally Link2SD and Apps2SD should not be used together. Any app linked by Link2SD will be detected by Apps2SD. If you still want to use them together make sure to deselect auto linking in Link2SD or Apps2SD settings.
As for the post reboot issue. Can you recreate the mount script from Apps2SD, reboot and try again. If the problem still persist send me the content of /system/etc/install-recovery.sh file.
running moto e 5.1.1
using only apps2sd solved the issue. and mount scripts were done from apps2sd itself
