[Q] Mobile Network Not Available - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4g running on Tmobile. I rooted the phone when it was using stock Froyo over a month ago I upgraded my phone software and it now runs Gingerbread 2.3.6. The phone is functional and works on wireless for internet only but I can't make phone calls or get phone calls, the message in the title appears. I have talked to Tmobile and they can't help me but suggested xda developers. I used Titanium backup before I upgraded the software.
Questions:
1. If I unroot my phone will that enable me to make phone calls on Tmobile?
2. Will a restore from Titanium backup help get me back to Froyo?
3. If not what other suggestions do you have?
Fortunately I have a google voice number and can forward my calls to another phone on tmobile.
Any and all help is appreciated.

1: rooting doesnt affect phone calls
2:Titanium backup only backs up and restores apps and not roms
3:If you dont have a backup of your previous rom then download it and flash it

[Q] UK new owner of Verizon SCH i535

On holiday in the USA I was given an new Verizon Galaxy S3 SCH i535 by a friend, and was very pleased until I tried to used it back home in the UK. I realised that the only way to to use it effectively in the UK was to unlock it and root it. I had some previous experience of rooting a T-Mobile Dream so searched and came across the "Casual" method. The phone was stuck on Android 4.0.4 and I was unable to update to 4.1.1 so I decided to go ahead with the 'Casual' one click process. It worked and my phone was rooted, and now I am using a UK sim, but I have no mobile data. After doing more reading I realised Android 4.0.4 was a bad release to be stuck on with a Verizon phone. So my questions are:
1. Is there anyway I can use the phone in the UK and get data without using WiFi?
2. Should I un-root the phone and try to upgrade to 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 before doing anything else?
Regards

Basically you need an option to edit your APN. Your phone needs to be rooted, Titanium backup and an APN app (APN Manger Pro or Phone Info by [email protected]). Use Titanium backup to install your APN app as System app. Then open the app and config your phone as Global mode and here you could load your APN for UK.
EDIT: By the way, if you don't mind the locked bootloader with 4.3 stock rom. The Global mode and APN feature are build in.
Take it back. S3 is garbage

Thanks for the advice. I have installed both APN Manager Pro and Titanium Backup Pro and made APN manager pro a system app as you suggested. Initial results show low signal strength and no data. When I try to make a call I get the com.android.phone has stopped error. I will continue to try in a better reception area, also I will try a sim from a different phone company.

I had to factory reset my phone to get out of the com.android.phone error. Reinstalled Titanium Backup pro, Phone Info and APN Manager pro. Inserted my Orange/EE sim card and then edited the APN settings using APN Manager Pro. I still have not gained any data signal even though the reception is improved. My only thoughts now are unrooting the phone and upgrading the software from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2. Thinking that Verizon 4.0.4 is the main problem. Anyone have any ideas?

I would start all over again. find the stock I535VRBMF1 (4.1.2) firmware or I535VRBLK3 (4.1.1), flash via odin, then follow this guide

Thanks for the advice, sorry it took me awhile to reply, finding a downloadable version of I535VRBMF1 took a little time. I am now upgraded to 4.1.2, unrooted and unlocked and will follow the link you provided. Many thanks
Edit:
Just read the link you posted in more detail and realised it states 'your Verizon Galaxy S III device if you just received the official Jelly Bean OTA (without having to flash a factory image).
so it may not be appropriate for me, as I used Odin to flash VRBMF1. What do you think?

if you have stock 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 that link should work. but if you've received the 4.3 ota then it's not going to work for you. When I first got my phone (verizon as well) it had 4.1.1 installed. followed the directions on that page and have never looked back. I've flashed around 15 different roms and have never had a problem other than a buggy rom. currently running gummy kitkat rom.

[Q] Trouble moving rooted/custom S3 to T Mobile

This may be a cross-forum thread, but...
So my wife just moved from Verizon to T Mobile and I gave her my Verizon S3. It's rooted running CarbonRom. She was unable to set up her voicemail, so she went in to the store. The guy there told her she's only on 2G and she'll have to unroot and go back to stock to get 4G / LTE. Does any of that sound correct?
I found the stock ROM and I'll try that first before I unroot (for restoration purposes). It just seems unlikely that the root or ROM would be the problem.

[Q] Data Working, but No Calling

Hello, I have the Boost Mobile Moto G flashed to the Stock Verizon Firmware Image (for PagePlus), and I have done a Over The Air Program, using *22890 and *22891, and I can get 3G data just fine.
But my problem here is that I am not able to send or receive any calls to/from any number. It all stopped working today, after flashing and erasing a few custom ROMS, but when those were flashed, I was able to call, but I had no data. Now both on Stock and on Custom Roms, I cannot call, but only use my data. Is there anything I can do to attempt to fix this? Thank you in advanced.

g900p Boost/Sprint restrictions removal needed

OK
I´ve got one s5 here in Cuba, it is from boost / sprint.
Ithas not been a problem for me to unlock it and make it work on GSM 2G, here.
but I have few issues which I would like to solve.
I cant find an option to import the contacts from the Sim card, so, my sim card contacts are just ignored by the phone, not eveb there is a choice for showing the sim contacts together with the phone contacts.
There are some USSD codes which I cant use at all
APN changing it is another issue, I know this is being addresses in the forum.
Phone is running 6.0.1 PE1 firmware, I can easily root using cf-autoroot.
is there a generic ROM, from international model like g900F, which I can just install to the sprint phone thus removing all the sprint stuff.
I know there is a cyanogen mod 13 out there, but I would like to stick to as close as possible to stock touchwiz roms.
Any suggestions / thoughts / ideas ?
there is an apn manager app called (oddly enough ) APNManager, its available in the play store and its icon is a hedgehog. It does the work for you regarding apns. As far as a stock feeling unbranded ROM, you can TWRP flash whatever ROM you like as the functionality wont be impeded as long as you dont flash the modem for a different model on it. I personally recommend MOAR 7.0 and use titanium backup to backup and delete anything "sprinty". For that matter , you could just use titanium backup to backup then uninstall that same "sprinty" stuff on your current ROM
